Troy chatter
Hey everyone. I am kicking it with one of my college buddies today, a powerful executive by the name of Jacques Brousseau, and will be watching the GMAC Bowl.
Most of the HOTTIES have at least a neutral feeling about the Troy Trojans, guided by former Auburn quarterback and assistant coach Larry Blakeney.
If you're watching, please roll into our comments section and make yourself heard.
That's what we do here at the HABOTN. We comment.

HOLLA!!
Nicely done.
I am a Tiger.....hear me roar!!!!
Tomorrow is going to be a big day for the HOTTIES.
gracias
Why... You guarenteing a Texas victory.
Gotta show why HOTTIES > everyone else.
Do we wanna run a live blog tomorrow? I mean ... to document Texas' accomplishments.
Sure, I can go for that and hookem and all.
Jay G, I would love your thoughts on Jon Solomon's piece today about how UAT won 5 NC's in one year.
I. auburn had pulled that crap instead of bama, we would never hear the end of it.
I don't really want to pull for either team. I've got degrees from both Auburn and Texas A&M. I hate Bama more, but there is that SEC thing.
Can both schools lose?
61- there is only one correct answer on who to root for tomorrow.
61- there is only one correct answer on who to root for tomorrow.
It's going to be a big day...
To be honest, In the past 17 years I wondered if we would ever get back to this point.
I had no idea sitting in the Superdome on 1/1/93 what was going to happen afterward.
FSJ- Hopefully you will be thinking the same thing tomorrow, except a lot less excited than 93.
Hello Hotties. Got a kick out of the argument in the last thread regarding UA's "some more mythical than others" national championships. My only question...Did they vote for those national championships in the 1920's by PONY EXPRESS, tap out the votes in MORSE CODE, or what.
Hello, is this thing on....
I mean, how would anyone really know WHO was the best team back then. TV...not. Radio....NOT.no national coverage. HOW WOULD YOU KNOW...
Why does UAT's strength and conditioning coach keep yelling at me to get a swine flu shot?
Since I don't have a horse or Jackass in this race I am just goiing to sit back and enjoy the game. I may holler every now and then.
And my final say on the matter... I have AU with eight national titles. Seven were awarded by my local chapter of Alcazar's, confirmed by the Salvation Army.
Lets go Central Michigan!
Wrap them up Trojans!
Nice Sponge!
What did you guys think of Tony Franklin's success this year as O coordinator? Not a fan of his, but he had no chance w/ the Barbeque boys.
He did well. We all know he didn't have a fair shake at Auburn.
Is Bear Woods, LB for Troy, one ugly dude or what.
Good stop by Troy with some help.
Tony Franklin didn't get a fair shake at all at Auburn, but he didn't help himself either.
Talked to one of my buddies, HS coach, about one of his players that signed w/ AU two years ago, and was kicked off the team this year. Of of the three or four kicked off at once. He said Chizik called him to tell him the guy was going to be off the team. Wouldn't tell the coach why, but assured him that he would find him another place to play. Kid is playing at Grambling now. Just a hidden example of how the Chiz is doing things right.
No he didn't acting like a wild man and continuing to call himself and idiot.
Nice story Sponge.
No doubt Eddie. But in the end, I think he is a pretty good coach. Just shows in my view how screwed up things were at AU... Tubby, his assistants, AU's board and money guys, and athletic director. Glad we are moving on. Good things happening w/ Chiz.
So is Texas Tech going to hire Tubs or the McNeil?
I heart Larry Blakeney.
Good play
Tubby kind of talks like he had the job doesn't he? On radio interview. I'd like to see him have to work to enjoy that 5 million.
Recruit news. Where is WTC. I want to cross check what I'm hearing..
sponge- what are you hearing for those of us that don't follow it.
Schools are out here in Hoover tomorrow. Wonder if we'll get more than one or two flakes of snow.
Was told with fairly good reliability that the following are in the fold.
Lattimore. Seastrunk still wants to come, but not sure if we will have a scholly.
Two of the three D lineman we are recruiting... Thorton, Whittiker, and a guy from Arkansas.
D-End from Florida..Lemonier, and Adams from Juco.
Possibly BEASLEY. Forgot the other possibility.
Oh yeah. Heard Mack was ours as well, the OL.
Sponge- That is kinda of what i'm hearing too, but not completely sure on Thorton. Personally, I think there is something up with Seastrunk and I think he ends up at Auburn. I could be wrong, but the tea leafs seem to say that.
Bear Woods almost gets his sack.
Mack was spotted in a picture with several Auburn commits wearing an Auburn visor at the Under Armour All-American game.
Yeah. I'm not sure we get Thornton. We get Whittiker and one of either Thorton or the guy from Arkasas. Don't recall is name but he is one of the top guys in Arky.
Sponge- I believe it Bryan Jones.
Eddie, did you read that a D line commit for UGA was Whittiker's roomie at the Under Armour game? Convenient huh?
What the hell is that on Rod Gilmore's head?
Is he a train conductor?
no, but doesn't surprise me.
I think we lose the kid from Lincoln, Al, to Clemson. They are promising him that he'll play tailback only. He wants to run the ball. AU wants him to play safety.
by far my worst year but thank you god for letting me see another one!!!!
-Eric Smith via facebook
And facebook stalker Wake strikes again.
DJ Howard....
Wake, your scaring me..
Sponge- I would not be surprised if we lose DJ Howard to Clemson, but I don't think that battle is completely over. We still have a shot. Really depends on how bad he wants to play TB.
I just read that Whitaker article. Go figure on the room arrangements.
If Seastrunk wants to come, you can bet their will be a scholarship. From what I read he is likely Oregon bound, with USCw second.
As for Franklin, he was actually very correct when he blamed both himself and Tuberville. Tuberville didn't give him the freedom he should have and Franklin lacked the people skills to take charge and really shouldn't have taken the job in the first place. No, he didn't get a fair shot, but part of it was him. Bottom line is he isn't as bad of a coach as some think, but he lacks people skills.
Wake- What does Pat Dye's status say...buy a tree from me?
Steve- That is what all the recruiting experts are saying about Seastrunk, but if Auburn really backed off him 3-4 weeks ago, why is he listing Auburn so highly? Something is up there. There is smoke billowing out everywhere.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Why would he sign with Auburn with Dyer committed and Lattimore apparently likely? That is kind of hard to see.
Dye said
"It only will take Texas 60 minutes to beat Bama"
I didn't get it directly from facebook, but I feel like he would back up that statement.
Could you guys see Dyer and Lattimore sharing carries at TB, Fannin and Seastrunk sharing the H Back position? Add Aycock in there and we got something special.
the swag crew at Grambling is off the chain. bottom rocker and all.
Throw FAH and Eric Smith in there. Assuming we only get Dyer, I doubt he is the featured back early on.
Steve, not saying Seastrunk is coming with the others, but I don't think he's out of the question yet. Of course, we got five weeks before signing, so many things can happen. Lot of pressure on these kids.
Right about that Steve. But, can you see year two, three and possibly four with those guys.
By the way, of the backs we have returning, Eric Smith is the one that I am most sure will get playing time.
Steve- Seastrunk is not a true TB and plays the same role as McCalebb. Supposedly more of a Percy Harvin type of player. He would play and fit in perfectly with our offense.
Steve- Eric Smith is not a TB.
Heck, Smith may not even make it to spring training...
It's my understanding that Auburn isn't looking for any true TB's. They want them all to be able to move from position to position pretty fluidly.
Eric will play either h-back or tailback. I could see him doing either, but the discussion was the backfield. He will play.
McCalebb better put on some serious muscle. He's a little guy. A long way from having McCluster's body.
Nice play by C Mich. I love that crossing route. Hit a guy in stride and let him motor.
Seastrunk in a Percy Harvin type roll would make a lot of good sense. He doesn't have the build of an every down back. Lattimore and Dyer both are big enough.
Actually, Dyer isn't that tall, but man is he thick, and not fat.
Smith will play, but not featured IMO.
Versatility is a positive for all who play in Mahlzan's O, fo sho.
I actually kind of like watching Troy or MTSU to get an idea of what TF had in mind for the linemen.
Franklin talk? Groan! I thought we had rules against that.
No, I doubt Smith will be the featured back, but he is more of an all around solid player.
I'll never understand why Franklin had them lose all that weight. That killed our offense more than anything last season if you ask me.
Franklin is dead!!! Long live Franklin!!! Or something like that.
Lattimore, Dyer, and Seastrunk would all bring a little something different to the table. I'm happy w/ Dyer, would love it if we got Lattimore. Seastrunk would be icing.
I wish we had Kyle Prater.
Eddit, I am still trying to understand it too. I watched some of MTSU and I think it is just a different blocking style focusing on movement and basically the ability to stay in the way. I am not sure why it would be desirable.
If nothing else, I like Rocker's philosophy better, which is basically to let his linemen do what they do best. If you are a bull rusher, bull rush. If you are a speed guy, user your speed. To tell a linemen to loose weight when he was comfortable and playing well at this current weight just seems stupid.
I have a lot of confidence in Malzahn being able to find ways to get players involved. Imagine Lattimore and Seastrunk lining up at receivers who go in motion into the backfield. He could get very creative.
I'm gonna kick a puppy if this conversation continues.
Tony Franklin is the man...I want a picture of Peter kicking a puppy.
And Wake, the impression I get is that the more different things you can do, the better chance of playing time you have with Malzahn. Actually, I think it was Trooper that said if we had 5 solid receivers, we would be going 5 wide.
I have loved what I have heard in terms of using players. Malzahn doesn't like having to do all the substitions to run particular plays. He wants more flexible players.
Mr. Carroll, at what point in this season did you know that you were screwed?
Ok, we got a puppy kicker and a facebook stalker.. Creepy..
DJ Howard going to Clempson is possible, but that wouldn't be a disaster. I am actually looking forward to us playing Clempson. If he goes there, he won't be.
What's with the spelling of Clemson Steve...is that a swipe at them since you live there?
5 wide with Kodi in the gun. Awesome!
Peter- Thanks for the gag reflex.
Put the gun back in the holster. I hope they find something else for Mr. Burns to do.
Eddie, hooked on phonics worked for me, and that is the preferred spelling.
Actually, I am for Kodi as wide out as possible. Hopefully so far wide that he is no longer on the field.
Love all this talk about our recruits and love the quality players this staff is getting. But I have seen too many can't miss high school kids come thru shoot their wad, miss and move on.
I think Kodi should start and play the entire 2010 Iron Bowl at QB...
JMO..
Digger- Every kid this staff signs is a can't miss kid. Can't wait to see them on the field :)!
And with Starr as his opposing counterpart
Eddie that's why I said I love what we are getting I just can't get too excited until I see proof on the field.
LOL...
I'll take my chances with Mr. Starr.
He seems to be in pretty good shape.
Can you imagine the outrage if the power is knocked out in BHam, Tuscaloosa and other areas making it impossible for some fans to watch the game tomorrow night.
He does look good standing on the side lines!!
don't give up on Kodi. He's awesome...and more of an Auburn man than any of us can ever hope to be.
you better sign a lot of can't miss kids, cause some will miss, but not all. Check the tide out. So what if Jerrell Harris hasn't panned out so far. A lot of those kids have. We'll have a few that aren't as advertised, but not as many as we would w/ tubby's 2 and 3 star projects.
I wouldn't count on all these recruits being can't miss, but hopefully it will be better than some of our recent classes.
Eddie,
If that happens in Etowah County...I'll come unglued.
Peter- He can be more of an Auburn man than most, but does he have to take snaps? I hope he has a great season catching the ball next season. That is what I hope for him.
Eddie, I hope the weatherman records the death threats. It will make for great listening.
You and 100,000 other bama fans
Good pick!
The thought of some not being able to watch it due to weather is funny.
Tuberville did very well with his recruits and that is why he is attractive to Texas Tech. He was good at finding the underrated players.
As for Kodi, I do appreciate how he handled things this year, but I do not think he was successful as the wildcat QB. If Kodi can become a possession receiver, I can see him playing. Heck, give him a shot at safety. But I think we have better options for a wildcat QB.
Like I think Jay said earlier this week...
If the new Juco QB is the real deal....there won't be a need for a wildcat QB next year.
Eddie and Peter. If Kodi isn't the best player in a position, he shouldn't be on the field. Fine for this year, as we had few ready to play. time to move on at Wildcat and make him earn playing time at Wideout.
Man, lets all chip in and rent some commercial time on Alabama TV stations. One commercial announcing that the BCSNCG will only be offered on pay per view for $35 will have thousands of Bama fans looking to take out a second mortgage to afford it.
Sponge- I couldn't agree more.
I hope Newton is the real deal, but put me in the skeptical column.
No doubt Kodi had more to do with keeping this team together than anyone and I admire this young man but he should not be given a free ride nesxt year
according to this laptop, i'm down to the last ten minutes, so with that said, good night all.
Steve, Tubby was good at finding underrated players, but he had most success when combining them with highly rated player. You can't build the entire team on underrated players. .Unless, you are satisfied w/ 8 or 9 wins a year. I need more...
Good nite Eddie
Goodnight Eddie.
Steve.. funny.
TD Troy
Newton.. count me skeptical as well. Proof in the pudding at QB. Hope they don't feel obligated to play him if he doesn't pan out, just cause he's juco. I think we can replace Tate, but we will live or die by the QB next year. Should be interesting.
Sponge, lets not get into the Tuberville recruiting discussions. He typically had top 15 classes and several top 10 classes. He is gone and won't be back.
I wouldn't bet the farm on any player coming our of high school. The mature ones will make it, but some won't. I like the potential we have in this class, but lets see.
This is an excellent class and should give us a good base to continue to build on. Just don't put too much money on any one player
Eddie, you just want that Rollison express to keep on rollin'.
C. Michigan will not win unless they score a TD.
The chip shots will not do it.
That is great a hook em horn fan in Mobile
digger..
That was E-Bro.
FSJ naw not really... E-bro wishes
Pat Dye's status: "Texas ain't man enough to beat Alabama."
Dye knows football but is not a good at picking em.
Steve.. I was a Tubby fan. Just got jaded cause of the last couple years. I'll be alright
night night all
Good nite Sponge
Man, all of HABOTN should have went to this game. We could have doubled the crowd size. OKay, more than doubled.
Is the last night I get to hear "Play Like a Champion?"
The stats on Michael Dyer are impressive. He is a 5'8" guy you wouldn't want to mess with. Benching that much and still running a 4.4/40, you wouldn't get away. And the big shocker is he is also a good student. Check out the GPA.

STeve, Tubby only had 1 top 10 class. I think his average class was around 16.
How bout some bball talk. I predict that AU starts 2-0 in SEC play before losing to KU by 107.
And then I was alone. It's kind of scary in here all by myself.
Tryin' to see if T-Roy can hold on for the win.
Doesn't look good, IV
Right Brother Jet, I'm holding my breath.
The kickoff return was a killer ... they were about to put the game away.
Good Lord what a day. What a day (and night) of work and what a day here on the HABOTN. Quite the discourse. Unfortunately for me, it looks like my tomorrow and the next several days will be much more of the same. I hope everyone plays together nicely.
All fun and games Norm
that is until someone puts out an eye.
I resemble that last remark.
D couldn't hold 'em.
Just keep the Bamas at bay and everything will be alright.
I've got a LeFevour and the only prescription is more cowbell!!
Here comes Troy's O.
Sorry Norm didn't mean anything by the eye joke. I don't know the criteria for the front page quote, but "I've got a LeFevour and the only prescription is more cowbell" is funny. I don't care who you are.
Lefevour is legit man...dude can ball...id draft him
FG
No prob CHB. No problem at all as far as I can see. Of course, that's only about 1/2 as well as the rest of you on good day lately.
Trojans - just when I thought I was about to go to bed, they pull me back in!
Having your kicker make his career long field goal to send you bowl game into overtime is something else. 47 yards. Not bad.
Is C. Mich. QB old enough to drive yet? Or am I just that old now?
OT. More fun and game.
CH=B, 2006 and 2007 were both top 10 classes according to rivals. It does depend upon who you go by.
Norm, Getting old isn't so bad, it's staying old that is the real challenge.
Scouts also shows 2006 and 2007.
D first.
Ooops.
2002 was also a top 10 call according to rivals. Scout has us at 11. So, Tubs had 2.5 top ten classes I suppose. My bad.
Steve you should really be ashamed of yourself. Put yourself in timeout.
What is a Chippewa?
Southward! Go Flo-town!
IV, really?
Dbl. OT. Hmmm.
Really What?
This game could go on for a while. Both teams have solid QBs. I didn't expect to enjoy this one this much.
Really? As in, you don't know what a Chippeway is?
*Chippewa
Or a Chippewa either.
Hell of a game!
Lovin' it jay.
OK Norm, just what the hell is a Chippewa?
Man, back in ancient times we didn't have OT in college football. We just all went home and wondered why there wasn't an OT.
Jernigan in OT? Not clutch.
Looking bad now.
IV -

KICKERS!!!
Get ready Norm.
Now that was a block. He could have almost caught the thing.
A Chippewa is a kicker?
That never works outside of PlayStation!
Get set Norm.
On your toes Norm
Norm?
