Troy chatter

Hey everyone. I am kicking it with one of my college buddies today, a powerful executive by the name of Jacques Brousseau, and will be watching the GMAC Bowl.

Most of the HOTTIES have at least a neutral feeling about the Troy Trojans, guided by former Auburn quarterback and assistant coach Larry Blakeney.

If you're watching, please roll into our comments section and make yourself heard.

That's what we do here at the HABOTN. We comment.

To be honest, In the past 17 years I wondered if we would ever get back to this point.

I had no idea sitting in the Superdome on 1/1/93 what was going to happen afterward.

Hello Hotties. Got a kick out of the argument in the last thread regarding UA's "some more mythical than others" national championships. My only question...Did they vote for those national championships in the 1920's by PONY EXPRESS, tap out the votes in MORSE CODE, or what.

Talked to one of my buddies, HS coach, about one of his players that signed w/ AU two years ago, and was kicked off the team this year. Of of the three or four kicked off at once. He said Chizik called him to tell him the guy was going to be off the team. Wouldn't tell the coach why, but assured him that he would find him another place to play. Kid is playing at Grambling now. Just a hidden example of how the Chiz is doing things right.

No doubt Eddie. But in the end, I think he is a pretty good coach. Just shows in my view how screwed up things were at AU... Tubby, his assistants, AU's board and money guys, and athletic director. Glad we are moving on. Good things happening w/ Chiz.

Was told with fairly good reliability that the following are in the fold.
Lattimore. Seastrunk still wants to come, but not sure if we will have a scholly.
Two of the three D lineman we are recruiting... Thorton, Whittiker, and a guy from Arkansas.
D-End from Florida..Lemonier, and Adams from Juco.
Possibly BEASLEY. Forgot the other possibility.

6:57 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Oh yeah. Heard Mack was ours as well, the OL.

6:59 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Sponge- That is kinda of what i'm hearing too, but not completely sure on Thorton. Personally, I think there is something up with Seastrunk and I think he ends up at Auburn. I could be wrong, but the tea leafs seem to say that.

I just read that Whitaker article. Go figure on the room arrangements.

7:10 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

If Seastrunk wants to come, you can bet their will be a scholarship. From what I read he is likely Oregon bound, with USCw second.

As for Franklin, he was actually very correct when he blamed both himself and Tuberville. Tuberville didn't give him the freedom he should have and Franklin lacked the people skills to take charge and really shouldn't have taken the job in the first place. No, he didn't get a fair shot, but part of it was him. Bottom line is he isn't as bad of a coach as some think, but he lacks people skills.

7:10 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Steve- That is what all the recruiting experts are saying about Seastrunk, but if Auburn really backed off him 3-4 weeks ago, why is he listing Auburn so highly? Something is up there. There is smoke billowing out everywhere.

7:20 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Throw FAH and Eric Smith in there. Assuming we only get Dyer, I doubt he is the featured back early on.

7:21 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Steve, not saying Seastrunk is coming with the others, but I don't think he's out of the question yet. Of course, we got five weeks before signing, so many things can happen. Lot of pressure on these kids.

7:21 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Right about that Steve. But, can you see year two, three and possibly four with those guys.

7:22 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

By the way, of the backs we have returning, Eric Smith is the one that I am most sure will get playing time.

7:22 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Steve- Seastrunk is not a true TB and plays the same role as McCalebb. Supposedly more of a Percy Harvin type of player. He would play and fit in perfectly with our offense.

7:22 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Steve- Eric Smith is not a TB.

7:23 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Heck, Smith may not even make it to spring training...

7:25 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

It's my understanding that Auburn isn't looking for any true TB's. They want them all to be able to move from position to position pretty fluidly.

7:26 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eric will play either h-back or tailback. I could see him doing either, but the discussion was the backfield. He will play.

7:26 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

McCalebb better put on some serious muscle. He's a little guy. A long way from having McCluster's body.

7:27 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Nice play by C Mich. I love that crossing route. Hit a guy in stride and let him motor.

7:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Seastrunk in a Percy Harvin type roll would make a lot of good sense. He doesn't have the build of an every down back. Lattimore and Dyer both are big enough.

7:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Actually, Dyer isn't that tall, but man is he thick, and not fat.

7:29 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Smith will play, but not featured IMO.

Versatility is a positive for all who play in Mahlzan's O, fo sho.

I actually kind of like watching Troy or MTSU to get an idea of what TF had in mind for the linemen.

7:31 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Franklin talk? Groan! I thought we had rules against that.

7:31 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

No, I doubt Smith will be the featured back, but he is more of an all around solid player.

7:31 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I'll never understand why Franklin had them lose all that weight. That killed our offense more than anything last season if you ask me.

7:32 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Franklin is dead!!! Long live Franklin!!! Or something like that.

7:32 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Lattimore, Dyer, and Seastrunk would all bring a little something different to the table. I'm happy w/ Dyer, would love it if we got Lattimore. Seastrunk would be icing.

7:32 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I wish we had Kyle Prater.

7:34 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Eddit, I am still trying to understand it too. I watched some of MTSU and I think it is just a different blocking style focusing on movement and basically the ability to stay in the way. I am not sure why it would be desirable.

If nothing else, I like Rocker's philosophy better, which is basically to let his linemen do what they do best. If you are a bull rusher, bull rush. If you are a speed guy, user your speed. To tell a linemen to loose weight when he was comfortable and playing well at this current weight just seems stupid.

7:35 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I have a lot of confidence in Malzahn being able to find ways to get players involved. Imagine Lattimore and Seastrunk lining up at receivers who go in motion into the backfield. He could get very creative.

Tony Franklin is the man...I want a picture of Peter kicking a puppy.

7:41 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

And Wake, the impression I get is that the more different things you can do, the better chance of playing time you have with Malzahn. Actually, I think it was Trooper that said if we had 5 solid receivers, we would be going 5 wide.

I have loved what I have heard in terms of using players. Malzahn doesn't like having to do all the substitions to run particular plays. He wants more flexible players.

7:41 PM

Tuberville did very well with his recruits and that is why he is attractive to Texas Tech. He was good at finding the underrated players.

As for Kodi, I do appreciate how he handled things this year, but I do not think he was successful as the wildcat QB. If Kodi can become a possession receiver, I can see him playing. Heck, give him a shot at safety. But I think we have better options for a wildcat QB.

8:02 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Like I think Jay said earlier this week...

If the new Juco QB is the real deal....there won't be a need for a wildcat QB next year.

8:03 PM
Blogger Spongeworthy said...

Eddie and Peter. If Kodi isn't the best player in a position, he shouldn't be on the field. Fine for this year, as we had few ready to play. time to move on at Wildcat and make him earn playing time at Wideout.

8:03 PM
