Aairon Savage speaks

Hey everyone. Defensive back Aairon Savage, who has missed the past two seasons because of two disparate injuries, spent some time talking with the media today.

He recently was granted a (rare) sixth season of eligibility from the NCAA.

Savage is in a good mood.

I'll have quotes up in a bit. Until then, here is the basic theme.

  • He feels blessed to have this final chance to play.

  • He speaks often with Jerraud Powers and Willis McGahee, who have provided steadfast encouragement. McGahee? Former Auburn lineman Ben Grubbs thought McGahee could provide some insight, so he got McGahee in contact with Savage.

  • He claims to be 100 percent healthy. "I can do everything."

  • He said his position remains in question. Savage is fine with cornerback or safety.

  • He will participate fully in spring drills.

  • He was recruited by Gene Chizik out of high school ... when Chizik was Auburn's defensive coordinator.

  • He tore his Achilles last summer. Less than a week before, the topic in his kinesiology class was Achilles injuries.

  • On gaining perspective: ``Losing two seasons, that's hard too. Very frustrating. I don't know why everything happens, but everything happens for a reason. I've learned a lot about myself, a lot about the people that I've had around me. I had a very strong support system from (my girlfriend) Shannon, my mom, my family, the guys here, just everybody. Community, it's a very good support system."

  • On his mental approach: ``I just took it one day at a time, try not to look too far ahead. I had a lot of long nights, a lot of long nights. I tried not to think it was over. It's kind of hard to let it go. Just one day at a time, one night at a time. And here we are now."

  • On how some teammates are significantly younger now: ``That's the beauty about it. It's kind of like music. It's something that can bring anybody together and it's something that everybody enjoys. It's just a love and a passion that won't go away."

  • On what Willis McGahee said: ``We were doing some of the same things that McGahee was doing already. We incorporated a few more things. He just told me to keep working at it because it will come back. Don’t give up."

Good day peeps.

Quiet day here in Baltimore. Entire state of Maryland is under a blizzard warning. Currently have 20" of snow on the ground, on top of the 28 we got on Saturday.

I can honestly say I have never seen so much.

I can't believe that Eric Clapton invites that guy to be on the Crossroads Guitar Festival.

I've seen Mayer play guitar and he's good, but his song writing is awful and he never really writes a song to show off any guitar playing at all.

He has two of the worst songs ever with "Daughters" and "Your Body Is A Wonderland".

SCHEDULE UPDATE:

I will be doing a live blog or chat (depending on bandwidth issues) tonight beginning around 7:30 p.m. CST.

I'm also aiming for a Video Campfire® tomorrow afternoon at a time to be determined. What is best? I usually shoot for 3 p.m. CST.

4:40 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

The Saabs were 4 wheel drives right? Colorado snow is much lighter and doesn't pack. They're also prepared much better for it. The region is paralyzed and the Federal government has been closed for 3 straight days and will most likely be closed tomorrow.

Kids are loving it. Lot's of impromptu toboggan runs like you described JG.

Another inch or 2 is in the forecast for Sunday night. Normally that would be a cause for some excitement. Now not so much.

4:41 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Yeah, they're usually on their game with snow in Colorado.

I drove through 10-15 inches of snow to get to work more than once.

Still, every now and then a snow storm will kind of come out of nowhere and wreak havoc. This drive to Vail was one of them. Once they opened back up I-70, it was only clear for a little while before roads became messy.

Going up and over Vail Pass that day was not the most fun I've ever had.

The only really big snow I remember was the HUGE snow storm that hit Auburn big time in February of 1973.

I got in the car early that Friday morn and almost made it to Phenix City trying to get to east Georgia. I got turned around by the state troopers. Thank goodness cause I would have been stranded in the middle of nowhere Georgia. Instead I raised tee total hell in Auburn. By the time it was over we had over two feet.

It was the best of times and some of the best memories at Auburn.

We got huge appliance boxes from the stores and 'sledded' down every incline we could find in Auburn! Made bonfires in all the apartment complex parking lots and drank hot buttered rum till we...well, till we ran out!

Any Hotties there during that time???

The snow of 1973 to the streaking of 1974...those were the days!!!!

So this on another blog.

My husband went to a luncheon today and listened to Jason Caldwell from Auburn Scout. The SR thing was explained by Jason like this:

There were an estimated 200 bammers all dressed in red and white at the press conference. SR called to speak with the sabear about committing and sabear became frustrated with SR and gave the phone to a position coach and said "here, talk to this f!@#%*& kid. Well SR heard him say this. At 11:30 am the day of the press conference SR called the Auburn coaches to tell him that he was going to Alabama. Our coaches told him that if he ever needed anything to not hesitate to call them and that they loved him and wishes him the very best. SR immediately replied "coach, I'm coming to Auburn". And that is exactly what this boy did. In front of 200 bammers he told them that he was committing to their rival team. That took balls my friends! This kid knew in his heart that he didn't want to be a part of the bama team. It's different when you're on the outside looking in, but when you get inside and see how things really are in can change in an instant. That is exactly what happened with SR. Here he was committing to the bammers and the head coach curses him and he was informing the AU coaches that he wasn't coming and they were treating him with more respect and dignity. I'm not surprised at all, but to a kid that grew up a bama fan it was. He knew right then where he belonged! AUBURN!

We got a pretty good snow storm sometime around 2001 when I was at Auburn. It was a great time. Except for the fact that I worked for one for a realty company and we had a bunch of pipes burst and I had to help dig some of them up.

CH=B,
My dentist, who is a huge AU supporter, told me basically the same thing today.

He was also very impressed that I kept up with recruiting :) I invited him to our blog. He already knew of Jay's reporting and liked it. Maybe we will see him on here sometime.

The only snow I remember in Alabama was in Mobile in 71 or 72. We got 4 inches, actually about 2 inches of snow on 2 inches of ice. There were no plows or salt in the city at all. There was a cold spell so it didn't melt and we were out of school for a a week.

That was a record snow for Mobile at the time and I think it still stands.

Has anyone heard about the sports anchor in Huntsville(FOX54) that made a remark suggesting Auburn cheated to get Spencer Region? He pretty much said that Auburn paid him and followed it up by saying "Yep, I said it". After the commercial break he said some more about it. On another blog the stations email address was posted so I sent Dear Eric:

First and foremost, we would like to thank you for watching our FOX 54 Nine O’ Clock News, we value our viewer comments; whether they are positive or negative in nature regarding any story or issue that has aired on our stations. We state Fair, Local, Balanced because we mean it, they are not just words.

Your email regarding the comment from our Sports Anchor, Roland Glembine on the newscast that aired on Monday February 8, 2010 is very important to us. Please rest assured that we have addressed your complaint and it has been discussed.

Please note this was done tongue-in-cheek and apologized for mere moments after it was said. In fact, it was also looked upon from some Alabama fans with disfavor as well. That being said, we apologize for offending. That is never our intention. We place great importance on the conduct of our staff and your complaint will give us the opportunity to improve our local newscast each and every day.

Best Regards,

Charlene M Brueggeman an email stating my displeasure with such "Fair and balanced" reporting. I actually got a reply. What's funny is that I don't even live in nor watch Huntsville news.
