Auburn gets its first 2010 commitment

Hey everyone. I have risen from slumber to learn that cornerback Izauea Lanier (first name is pronounced "eye-ZAY-uh") has committed to play football at Auburn in 2011.

He is the first player on earth to do so.

We know about this because our friends at AuburnSports.com and ITAT say so. And they're credible.

Lanier signed with the Tigers in 2009 out of Gordo High. He was a late addition to the class, a diamond-in-the-rough guy whose stock was severely affected by his questionable academic status. So he spent the past fall at East Mississippi Community College, is working to get his marks in order and played well enough to keep Auburn coaches interested.

He is expected to redshirt this fall and arrive in 2011 with three years of eligibility remaining.

Blogger michael said...

Well Freep, I am in a bit of a pickle. The fortified chocolate shipment from Nova Scotia just got seized at the Canadian border in rural Montana. One of my men is a traitor. What are the chances of that happening? So I am suspicious that one of my men is a traitor. I plan on throwing them all into the lake to find out who the traitor is. Traitors float.

Don't ask me about my business.

4:36 PM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Since someone posted JGT's comments on the 2008 class from this very blog 2 years ago, this tidbit might interest the rest of you:

AU signed 28 players on NSD 2008.

Exactly 10 remain on AU's current roster.

4:36 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Ima ask michael about his business.

Where was the shipment heading?

4:38 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Michael,

You are in luck! I am a licensed customs broker and I own a chocolate business. I also have experience in "fortifying" chocolates sold to Bammers. Regarding the traitor, just feed all the men the fortified chocolate. The traitor will die. Of course, there will also be some collateral damage, but that's the cost of doing business.

4:43 PM
Blogger michael said...

The chocolate was headed to a certain dictator who happens to be vacationing in Nebraska right now. I need to pay him off to keep quiet because he threatened to tell reporters at the Wheatley High School Beacon what really happened to their glue supply.

Never ask me about my business.

4:44 PM
Blogger michael said...

That's funny SC, because I keep my goats as collateral. If I start throwing around the phrase "collateral damage", people think it means something has happened to the goats. If that impression gets out, I am through.

SC, if you are able to stamp your chocolates with "MADE IN NOVA SCOTIA", then we might be in business. Hopefully you have no moral issues with doing this. I can pay you in glue.

Don't ask me about my business.

4:47 PM
Blogger Jet said...

So, Michael, how's the personal life?

4:50 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Is the glue fortified? Also, do you have any paste? We're working on a chocolate paste product to sell to the local preschools. They are looking to combine the art and snack periods.

4:50 PM
Blogger michael said...

Jet, let me tell you a story about my kids.

Sasha is a little over a year old now, and is just starting to develop some fine motor control. So, whenever we feed her, we give her her own spoon, which she generally just mashes into her bowl of rice and vegetables and whatever leftovers Jean and I didn’t want to finish ourselves. Occasionally, she makes a motion like she’s pretending to eat.

But this morning—wonder of wonders!—she actually, with a little difficulty and only intermittent success, started scooping milk-soaked Cheerios out of the bowl and into her mouth. Yay!

That’s not the cute part, however.

The cute part is what she did when she got tired of eating. She took the spoon, turned it around, and put the handle in her mouth, with the other end sticking straight at me. And then she grinned, one of those grins that makes her eyes go all crinkly. “My heart melted.” (Sorry, I can’t say that, even though I kind of mean it, without ironic quotation marks or the phrase “kind of” or the ridiculous link.)

But then my heart froze. This could be a problem, I realized: The baby knows she’s cute! At the tender age of 1 year and a few weeks, she’s already figured out that she can get away with not eating (and who knows what other misbehaviors?) simply by mugging for Daddy. Is this a warning? Or a sign that, as long as she stays adorable (or attractive), she’ll go far in this world? Should I be happy or worried?

I don’t know. All I know is it was damn cute.

But no, I ain’t gonna post a photo of her. Not unless she asks me to.

Oh, and this isn't actually about my kid, I just copy and pasted it from some other blog to annoy PF.

Ha. Luv...

When Brees was a free agent, ge wanted to go to Miami. Jimmy A ha done his recent surgery, and Saban called. JA said that it was possible that Brees wouldn't be able to throw long passes. Saban and the Dolphins passed on Brees, who would have made the Dolphins good. If the Dolphins were good, Saban would have been happy, made money, and stuck around. Therefore, Brees tried to keep Saban away from Bama, but Dr. James Andrews campaigned for him to go there.

I heard all of this on the radio last night. Dude was tracing Mark Ingram's Heisman back to Brees and Andrews. I love it.

oh, and Who Dat?

so, should be blame Saban & Bama's 2009 NC on Drew Brees?

who what?

GO COLTS! GO JERRAUD POWERS!

PF, how is that legal? What about HIPPA laws??

WHO DAT! GET SOME!

8:14 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

no, you should blame Andrews. Brees all but begged the Dolphins to sign him. Andrews, as a doctor, probably violated some HIPA laws by running his mouth like that to Saban.

8:14 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

so we should ban Andrews from our sidelines from now on, right? what a punk!

Scottie, although I want NO to win, I do want my boy Jerraud to have a great game.

Luv, i'm hoping his ankle holds up. i'll be rockin' my Colts #25 jersey on sunday. i'm pretty excited about it. should be a fun day.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Ha, Luv. We had the same thoughts. I suspect HIPPA laws are violated on an almost daily basis in sports.

8:17 AM
Blogger LuvAU1968 said...

PF, there's no "probably" about it. Andrews DEFINITELY violated HIPPA laws and if it can be substantiated and Brees wanted to pursue it (which I doubt), he could sue.

Does anyone know why Heath wouldn't be on the team photos in the Superbowl program? Jerraud is on the colts'. I knew Heath got hurt, but not sure why he wouldn't be on the roster.

Scottie, his ankle? When did he hurt his ankle? I know he's had a hamstring injury.

mrtommyd, I don't even see him listed on the roster. ???

Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

dunno TommyD. he's been on the sidelines for the games. maybe b/c he's not on the active roster? hmmm.

8:36 AM
Blogger digger4au said...

Maybe Heath is on injured reserve therefore not on the active roaster.

Blogger mytommyd said...

Yeah, I usually choose who I want to win by picking the team with the most Auburn guys. It was even for the Superbowl until I saw the rosters.

Speaking of does Steve Wallace have the most rings of any AU player because of his time with the 49ers?

8:43 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Wallace won 3 with the 49ers, so probably so.

Tommie Agee won 2 with the Cowboys.

From the Wall Street Journal:

According to an operational study of NFL teams, the typical season requires 514,000 hours of labor per team. That's about eight times the effort it took to conceptualize, build and market Apple's iPod, and enough time to build 25 America's Cup yachts.

Per team? That's crazy to compare.

They must be including EVERYONE, from the owner all the way down to guy that picks up the dirty towels. That still sounds overestimated.

I am one of the reasons Tommie Agee won 2 rings.
