Gene Chizik speaks
Here we go.
Questions? Comments? Post directly to the blog below or email me at jgtate@gannett.com.
- Overview on spring: ``The tentative plan ... is to go the first Wednesday after spring break. I'd like to make it a Monday, Wednesday, Friday schedule with, if we're ready, a scrimmage day on Saturday."
- Second time?: ``It's much easier for everybody. There are a lot of variable in there that a year ago we didn't know. Your second go-round is so much easier for everyone -- as you'd expect."
- On differences between now and a year ago: ``There's nothing new. The difference is that we went to a bowl game this year, so there were some discretionary period we had to adhere to. The class schedule is going to let us practice in the mornings. Other than that, nothing is really different."
- They are planning to practice in the mornings.
- On the raises: "It's not about me. It's really important that there was a vote of confidence there in our administration in the importance of continuity in the coaching staff. When you have very talented guys as assistant coaches, a lot of people are going to be interested in hiring them. Also don't forget the huge impact is has on your kids when they don't have to change coaches."
- More on that: ``It's supply and demand. It starts with the coordinators. People understand the importance of the leaders or your offense and the leaders of the defense -- and the impact they can have on your football team. People are willing to pay that money to get the best people in the trade."
- "Anytime you don't have change, it's a big deal."
- ``The patience level out there, when you get paid a lot of money, is shorter."
- On Aairon Savage and his future position: ``I'm really, really proud to have him back on the football team. I know he can play either/or ... because he's done it."
- On Zac Etheridge: ``I feel very encouraged about the progress he's made in the past couple months."
- He isn't expecting anyone to miss spring drills ... including Daren Bates, who had shoulder surgery a few weeks ago.
- ``We're not going to place any expectations on him that we don't place on everyone else. He's really no different from anyone else. May the best man win."
- On the situation at tailback: ``Mario is somebody we're looking at. We feel like Eric Smith can do it because he's done it. Those are the guys we're looking at. Dontae is a guy we can more around and do some different things with. He can bring some different options to the table -- a guy in the slot, a guy like Mario last year. Whether he can play tailback or not -- he could be in that mix. We're still feeling him out."
- On Auburn signing so many high-school QBs with the idea of moving them: ``I like quarterbacks. Sometimes they have a different way of seeing the game -- just because of what they did in high school. When they've done that in high school, they have a great feel for the game."
- On Gus' salary bump: ``Some guys on our staff were offered, potentially, were off head coach jobs. We did what we needed to do to keep everything together. With some of our guys being sought after, we did what we needed to do."
- What does potentially offered mean?:``They were interested in them."
- ``It's been good to have them all year. It's been a great transition of those five (players)."
- On Roszell Gayden: ``He's working really, really hard to get into the swing of what we do. At the tackle position right now, there will be some young guys we'll potentially try to play out there. You still have Brandon Mosley there. He can do both (tackle and tight end). There are some young guys we may try out there -- like John Sullen. We feel good from left tackle to right guard. That's the spot that's open."

Firstly first?
Tremendously tremendous.
atta baby, jet.
Can it be tremendous without substance??
I am tremendous.
But not Ken Tremendous.
Present
Hopefully, he will be Chizikly Chizik.
Norm ..Leave Pluto alone. Once a planet, always a planet. Us Planets stick together.
In today's PC --"everybody gets a trophy" world, Pluto deserves to keep the title regardless of performance.
Eight egotistical egotists echoing egotistical echos.
I want to know what the substance of the last open bullet was going to be on the original post. JG you keep us in such suspense.
Oh now I see, still adding content. Live blogging?
Purely financial analysis .....$1 mil = 22k tickets sold (3k/game). I think increased ticket sales alone would cover the raises.
Then there's the increased concessions, trademark royalties, food, lodging, etc. That come with increased enthusiasm.
Then there's the perception of consistency and commitment by AU to recruiting.
Then there's Alumni/Booster satisfaction.
Since increased ticket sales pay for all of the other benefits, I say that was a good deal.
Pluto?
I guess I'm weird because Man U cut almost $100m in salary last year ... and that thrilled me.
Interesting that he didn't mention Eddins at tackle.
It also seems he is thinking Zac Etheridge will participate in Spring practice, which would be great.
As for the tailbacks, that is more like what I expected to here. Fannin or Smith should be the favorite to start with Aycock a possibility to see playing time.
Thanks for the info, Jay G. The Chiz did give us some hints as to what to expect in 2010.
JG, philosophically, I think that all sports cost/spend too much and for that reason I don't even follow pro pro sports anymore.
Practically ..in the SEC ..you gotta keep up with the Jones ...and keep them from stealing your folks. I do like the recent trend towards lesser HC salaries and more salary for the Asst's.
These guys Smith and Fanning should be in line for tailback. The young players will have an opprtunity to play if they can learn the plays and show up in spring practice.
Reading through the material put out there by Homer, Sportswriter Tate, Chizick gave some good indications on what direction they are headed. More so than usual I think.
I wonder why there was no mention of FAH? I am assuming he will get his carries at tailback, but won't be the go to guy because of his size.
Most all freshmen RBs tend to fumble. Until the RS Fr and Fr prove they can hold onto the ball against SEC defenses, we should go with the proven guys.
Notwithstanding that, Dyer, Aycock ,et all are promising and ..no one knows now, but could be ready to handle the deal.
I think he will remain the misdirection guy and get plenty of carries if he can remain healthy.
I don't think what you thought, but I'm thinking Aairon Savage starts at either this fall. He's not an or in my book.
Chizik was being Chizikly Chizik, fo sho.
I think Chizik was less chizikly and gave some substance!
I hope Savage fully recovers and becomes a shut-down CB. He's been out for 2 years and it is easy to forget his contributions. I think will shake the rust off in spring, have a great final season at AU and then go in an early round of the 2011 pro draft
Hoopie, I agree with the young tailbacks. You give them a taste of the game by getting them a few carries each game, but let the guys that have been there take the majority of the snaps, at least early. If nothing else, the newcomers must get use to playing in front of 87,000+ fans.
Having Savage take McFadden's spot would work nicely. If Zac makes it back, he and Bates can handle safety. Thorpe should be solid at the other corner. Then the question is where we work the others in. Demond will definitely get some playing time.
"somebody we are looking at", "feeling him out"... Chiz is turned on by running backs. You can so tell.
Is that a wrap? I'm I late to the party?
Your not right Michael..... But I like it....
He also enjoys skinny-skiing and going to bullfights on acid.
And enjoys being here instead of dreary old Ames, Iowa.
Pretty good stuff about "The Miracle on Ice":

It looks like I didn't pick up the whole url before:

I'm hoping to speak with Gus here in a bit. I'll keep you updated.
Ask guess if the starting QBs name will rhyme with futon?
No Gus ... yet.
The second time around? Let's turn the Way Back Machine to 1979 ... and ... Shalamar...
But you can't keep runnin' away from love ... 'Cause the first one let you down, no, no, no ...
And though others try to satisfy you, baby ... With me true love can still be found ... Love can still be found
The second time around ... Ooh, the second time is so much better, baby ... The second time around
And I'll make it better than the first time.
mkaaaaaaaaaaaay
its easy mmkaayyyy to mmmkaaaayyyyyy
Demond Washington progressed and contributed well last season. If we have enough talent to keep him from starting, then our starting DBs are pretty good.
Looks like it's a swing and a miss on Gus. What can I say? I went all paparazzi on him and never found him!
Gus is pretty sneaky. From what I've heard, I'd imagine he was outta there by 5:00 today. A lot of times if he isn't chillin in his office he just wanders around the complex aimlessly.
DROID substance
I don't want to expose HABOTN to too much high brow philosophy, but I like the following quote from (stuff)mydadsays.
"A parent's only as good as their dumbest kid. If one wins a Nobel Prize but the other gets robbed by a hooker, you failed."
Just checking in. Anything new going on?
WTC, has your mother heard anything on the recruiting front?
Chiz is sounding just like a second year head coach that did not have a disaster of a first year season.
I have read where Jonathan Rose has us as his front runner, but it is a long race so it doesn't matter at this point. I think Chris Low had an article about it.
I guess I'm weird because Man U cut almost $100m in salary last year ... and that thrilled me.
I hope you saw that that got them this weekend though.
In case you missed it:

I'm old today
I think the high level of interest in last night's hockey match is proof that we need spring practice to begin and A-Day to get here quick. That and it was a pretty good match.
IV-recruiting never takes a day off. You are always selling your program to someone. AU has landed 2 for next year. Sounds like the Spencer Region kid is dead set on coming to AU. he says he is going to graduate early and come in January to get in the training program.
It may be too early to to make a prediction of where the 2011 class will wind up, so I won't. It is especially hard since Rivals hasn't ranked the juniors yet.
AU has a top 50 board that looks real nice. They are in the running for some very good players. some insiders think Danny Woodson, Jr (WR from Mobile) is a strong lean to AU. his dad played at UAt.
Greg...that was uncalled for.
I shouldn't have to suffer through that twice.
E-Bro, I feel ya.
I like ManUnited, but this year, I've been all Chelsea!
On a side note, it's kinda nice not to be so 'into' a sport that I can change allegiances from time to time.
This could NEVER happen with college football.
Greg...you speak poison with two tongues.
You like Man United, but switched to Chelsea this year?!
Blasphemy.
What? You like to pull for teams that play unimaginative soccer?
(sarcasm alert)
wake - how was the birthday & new gig?
Birthday was hampered by sitting in a room all day doing admin stuff. But got a great steak after so that was good.
I also found out I am getting an extra 3K cash money I wasn't expecting so that was clearly awesome.
But did you get to shoot anyone? That's pivotal to how the day goes I think.
Day 1 of jury service passes without being selected for a jury. Was part of a group considered for a stalking case ... either the prosecution knew my HABOTN and Facebook habits, or the defense knew I was the father of a teen-aged girl.
i just read where Eastern Michigan averaged a little over 5,000 people for their home football games. I find that incredible considering there are some high schools that draw that many.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Jet, you should have gone for the grand jury. It's a lot more interesting than sitting around waiting to be called. We did around 120 cases in 2 days (a month apart). It's amazing how stupid criminals are.
NoVa ...
Our circuit grand jury works for 2 weeks, which isn't a positive for me.
But after having testified in front of a federal grand jury two years ago, I found it to be an interesting process.
I've testified before a grand jury and served on a trial jury. I found each interesting.
NoVa, I tried to volunteer for grand jury one time after being excused from criminal jury duty and they wouldn't let me. Of course this in Alabama. I told them I would be glad to do it since I am retired and that way, someone who needs to be working could be relieved. No dice.
Mine was a state circuit court. We had the power to investigate if we wanted to, but it was usually just an officer coming in and stating what they had found. Hearsay was OK. The majority of cases had a confession or they were caught red handed. All we had to do was determine if it was reasonable to go to trial.
The hardest was a he said she said abuse case.
Served on a Federal Grand Jury a few years ago.
Was a once a month deal and lasted sixteen months.
Very interesting.
HABOTN apparently has the right to remain silent.
I was just going to ask if everyone had suddenly been sequestered.
They may give Dontae a look, but I'm pretty sure he's heading for a redshirt.
I've driven by EMUs stadium in Ypsilanti. Although it's less than 7 miles from Ann Arbor, I don't think anyone will confuse EMUs stadium with "The Big House."
THT ... Aycock has already been redshirted.
Dear Leader (if memory serves me correctly) - they just don't get it.
I just saw an article that said Auburn was 13th in attendance in 2009. That's not bad considering we didn't sell out every game. I think we will improve greatly on that position this year.
CHB-I look for Au to sell out the season tickets this year. I suspect there will not be any mini packets available. Just my guess.
Fans are very interested in seeing a high octane offense. I think 2010 teams rewrites the offensive records.
SteveFC-AU is in the lead for Rose. He says he will probably go to AU but will take all his visits. His dad played at AU in the early 90's as a DB. Charles Rose is his name.
I find it interesting that the some on former UAt player Danny Woodson ( Danny Woodson, jr) is high on AU. I mentioned earlier today that some insiders think AU will sign him.
Granny Smith apples are awesome.
So is coffee with chocolate caramel cream out of my new Starbuck's cup.
Jay-I slice them into wedges and add peanut butter.
Reese Cups are awesome.
Get some.
Sweet 16 game tomorrow night...guarding the 7 footer headed to Syracuse again...later peeps
wtc: What you're doing there is like sorority girls using Absolut in their screwdrivers. Use a cheap vodka when blending with something overpowering like orange juice.
Why not match the peanut butter with a cheaper apple like, say, a red or McIntosh?
I used to be a Granny Smith man until I tried a Fuji apple a couple of years ago. Fuji's rock.
Aycock will definitely see some playing time, although I am not certain where. One of the ways to get a young guy involved is to get him involved with special teams. I expect to see a lot of that this season. Many of the recruits will likely be out there on special teams too.
The one thing we really stunk up last season was punt returns and I don't think it was due to the return man. Blocking helps. Last year was as bad as I have seen it on punt returns. In fact, I considered it a reason to cheer if we didn't fumble the punt. Next season should be different.
Can't go wrong with a Gala.
Boy, do we need spring football to start! Can't believe we have had 5 posts about apples :)
Sweet dreams, hotties. See you tomorrow.
What are the odds we have a starting QB named by the end of spring practice?
jay-the tartness of the Granny Smith works well with the peanut butter.
Also, I cut them up into smaller pieces and add them to a tossed salad. Most excellent.
SteveFC-100% we have a starter by the end of Spring Training.
Grapefruit:
Red or Pink?
Discuss
I say no way Auburn names a starter out of spring drills.
Not a firm guy who goes into two-a-days as The Honcho.
You may be right JayG. I just think they really want one named by then.
Do you think the reason they will not have one named is because no one is ready to step out front or the coaches do not want to put the kabosh on the younger kids so early?
I think we have a starter by the end of spring practice. According to last year the race was too close to name a starter so basically Neil Caudle=Kodi Burns. Given that, I think it's fair to say Neil Caudle=Kodi Burns<Chris Todd. If Cam Newton isn't any better than Chris Todd then I'm gonna be pretty disappointed.
Cam was at Mario Fannin's house one night a few weeks ago, and Fannin had his UStream running. Someone asked Newton how far he throws it, and he said, "If I take a five step drop, ain't no one on this team that can get to the ball before it touches the ground. Not even Harry [Adams] or Ontario"
Yep I heard that too. I think Cam is named starter after spring, but what do I know. I one of maybe five Auburn fans that thought orange jerseys were cool.
WTC,
Knowing that you drive a Murano, I'm sure you're a pink grapefruit kind of guy. I personally prefer the Ruby Red.
Rise and shine, hotties!
And someone please tell me why I drank two cups of regular coffee after dinner last night? I definitely wasn't thinking - but it enabled me to think about it all night long!!!
I'd actually be shocked if a QB isn't named after the spring. I'd also be shocked if one or more of the back ups doesn't transfer to a formerly 1-AA school just to get a chance to start.
If a starter isn't named that probably means Newton didn't catch on as fast as they wanted, because hopefully talent wise there is a gap between him and the others we've already seen.
Good morning all.
I would be shocked and disappointed if Newton isn't named the starter by the end of spring. That's assuming he doesn't get hurt or banged up too badly. They didn't give him a scholly is ride the pine. The coaches saw something they really really liked and jumped on it.

=====================
I would bet all the money in my checking account that Cam will be the starter, but when he'll be named is questionable.
I didn't think the orange jerseys were cool, but I wish AU had a blue helmet, white jersey, blue trousers away game combo with an A on the helmet like the ones on the letterman jackets.
I don't see Newton as being a lock as the starter. I think you may be overestimating the difference in the talent levels here. I do consider him with a better than 50/50 chance of being the starter, but the competition is far from over.
Last season I don't think Malzahn wanted Caudle or Burns as the starter, which is why a decision wasn't made. I don't believe they were tied. I think that is evident because Burns isn't in the race this season at all.
Other than Burns, I wouldn't eliminate anyone from the competition at this point.
Good morning, Hotties!
Happy belated birthday, Wake. And, you're not old.
wtc, I hope you're right about the season tickets. It would be nice to see the stadium full for every home game.
I want to shake the hand of the man that coded this ... which is the web link for F-Bomb's collection of columns on al.com.
For emphasis, I have capitalized one part:

Jason ... it's too early in the a.m. to get me started on ruining our perfect uniforms.
Jet, I agree. Auburn's uniforms are perfect!
jet...
I applaud your observancy.
(I don't think that's a word, but it should be)
Buoyancy is a word so maybe observancy is too. I think you should look it up.
Everyones gone but I am going to say it anyway.
If Newton is not named starting Quarterback at the end of spring it will be because he is not what the coaches thought he was. Either he isn't picking up the playbook quick enough or some phase of his game isn't there.
The season will suffer for it.
Digger, the season will suffer because Newton isn't the starting QB or because there is no starting QB named after spring practice?
I'm in the camp of Do Not believe a starter will be named after spring drills - they will want all (or at least the top 2) to work doubly hard over the summer thinking they have a shot to lead the team in 2010.
I Do believe the starter will be known by the inside coaching circle after spring drills - they just want let it out - see above for reason.
I believe Newton will be the starter. I don't think he'll be named officially prior to two-a-days.
If someone is named prior to two-a-days, someone (or a few someones) will be leaving school. I don't think that's a desired outcome.
digger, I disagree. I think we will have a tentative depth chart at QB coming out of spring, but our success does not depend upon Newton.
There was similar hype over Kodi Burns. There were Auburn fans that worshiped Burns and thought it crazy that Cox was starting. It took a while for reality to set in. Cox was the best QB we have had since Jason Campbell. Burns wasn't what some thought he would be.
The same thing can occur with other QBs. Some may end up being better than expect. Some may end up being worse. It is just good we have a lot of options.
I would be surprised if Caudle was the guy, but it could happen. Moseley or Trotter we be less of a surprise, but still a surprise.
Rollison was highly touted. Does he surprise everyone and win the job. With his apparent troubles, it doesn't seem likely, but it could happen.
Someone beating out Newton doesn't necessarily mean he isn't as good as the coaches expected. It could very well be that someone else turns out to be better than expected.
I am still of the opinion that they wouldn't have brought Newton in if they didn't think he was the likely starter, but he will have to prove it on the field.
Jay, I find it very likely that someone transfers after a tentative depth chart comes out at the end of the spring. With five QBs, the one listed as 5th will likely head somewhere else, unless it is Caudle. He may be content to just get his degree.
Jay, do you have any insight on Rollison and where he may stand in the pecking order? Do you have any idea if he is out of the doghouse yet?
Luv I was thinking that the coaches went after him to be the starting QB for 2010. I am not sure any of the young ones will step in and be the leaders in the early part of the season.
JGT and others you are right we may not know but I believe it will be a done deal.
I definitely think Caudle is here for the long run.
My guess, and it's only a guess, is that Trotter and Rollison end up the odd men out beyond 2010.
Newton and Moseley, I believe, will stand the test of time.
It's not about talent with Rollison. His doghouse trip didn't seal his fate, but it's indicative of a problem that could ruin his opportunity at Auburn.
Then again, we're talking about 18- and 19-year-old kids. Huge strides in maturity/emotional development can occur almost overnight.
Don't count out Rollison yet. If I was betting on it, though, I'd say Moseley has a better chance.
I began tracking Moseley much more closely last fall. I made an off-handed comment to an assistant coach about Moseley being a "forgotten kid" and this coach gave me a five-minute dissertation on how much Malzahn likes Moseley, how arduously Malzahn fought to keep Moseley from leaving and how the kid has legitimate talent.
I don't overlook Moseley anymore.
Make that four posts in a row.
Keep it comin', Jay G!
Jay, you are being quoted, although by someone that seems to be suffering from a cranial/rectal impaction.
Jay, I have gotten the same feeling about Moseley, although some seem to feel Trotter has a legitimate shot. I have seen some good comments about Trotter, but don't picture him as a likely starter. I picture Moseley as a guy that came from a small high school that may have been underestimated. He has good size/speed. Hopefully he will surprise all of us.
That article I linked makes the assumption that because the staff got raises, Auburn is content with 8-5 seasons. It also says we faded after the first 5 games. The guy is frickin hilarious. Yes, we definitely slumpled in the middle of the season, but we played very well near the end, especially considering the depth issues.
Sometimes I read articles and am just cannot believe the author actually believes what he is writing. Now, to say the salary increases might be a bit pre-mature is a valid argument, but to suggest that giving raises means you are happy where you are is just laughable.
I do believe that there will be an open honest battle for the QB job. This staff will give everyone a fair shake. The compitition will be great. But in most of these cases maturity and hard work will win out. Can one of the younger guys step up and take over, yes, but the odds are with Newton.
digger, I do agree with that. Experience means a lot, and Newton has more than most, if not all. Caudle has been around a long time, but has had little playing time and has never had a game where he looked like starting material.
That story opens with this mess: ``According to a report in a recent addition of The Birmingham News ..."
Then I stopped reading. Addition? So the News likes to add numbers?
To deride Auburn's defensive coaches, particularly Roof, based on the 2009 numbers is silly. I am 100% certain that Roof is the right guy for this job and will make his critics eat crow sooner rather than later.
You don't hear me talk about coaches like that very often. I'll say it about Ted Roof.
The two coaches I talk with outside the SEC, guys who don't have a direct relationship with Roof, insist he's the best coach on this staff. They've been saying that all along.
JGT/Homer/Sportswriter Tate - can you be more pacific? Otherwise it's a mute point.
(just a couple of examples along the same lines of what you pointed out)
I'm going to write a HABOTN-only piece later today about an Auburn player whose career looks completely stalled ... and where he goes from here.
You'll have to wait a few hours on that one!
hey folks. long time no see. welcome back jgt.
HABOTN only, sweet. Suck it you outsiders.
I read the whole thing and the first thought that came to mind is this guy is Shane from Centerville. Or someone just like him.
Uhm, that article's author looked a bit familiar to me albeit by a different name.
There are far more highschool super stars that had careers stalled or just dropped out of sight than there are those that went on to stardom.
Why this happens who knows but it does. I guess a lot of times when all the players are big high school stars when they get to college the cream rises to the top and the others drop out.
Obviously, the article was written by a bammer.
Jay G, not to stick up for a bammer, but unless he reads the HABOTN and just did some super fast editing, the article starts out..."according to a report in a recent edition..."
Luv ... I took that quote as a copy-and-paste. The author edited the mistake within the hour.
welcome back, Arizona Scottie!
JGT I wonder if he reads HABOTN regularly or if someon else clude him in.
I have a lot of faith in Ted Roof. If you have a head coach that knows defense, I would think the Chiz would be a good choice.
i can't wait JG!
mornin' hotties. been a busy one!
Jay G, typical bammer...
I have no problem with people thinkng that the pay raises were premature, but to suggest that the raises mean we are happy at 8-5 is just one of the funniest assertions I have read. To each his own, I suppose, but some opinions are seriously off the wall.
Only a bammer would think that is the reason raises were given.
"HABOTN-only"
HOT DOG!!! I'm glad I subscribed!!!
Scott from Tucson- it's been tuc long
Glad to see you back.
I assume the guy also thinks that if his employer gives him a raise that his employer is very satisfied and will never expect him to improve. It is simply bizarre. I don't know if the guy is a Bambi and I half way think he must have been joking with that article. It is hard to believe he actually seriously believed what he typed.
I don't think strange opinion articles are specific to any university. I have read some position by position breakdowns of Auburn that pretty much say we have the bestest players ever at every position. While I would like to believe that, I try to live a little closer to reality.
HABOTN only material. Good News. Can we block all the trolls out there from reading it also? I would hate for them to read something I pay good money for with my subscription to this site.
Got to go to South AL to get a bag from Joe Whitt and give it to a recruit.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Been playing golf and workin for the man..made it back for the bama game and thanksgiving. what is the subscription rate up to?
Since you were last around, I believe the subscription fees have increased 100%.
wtc said..Got to go to South AL to get a bag from Joe Whitt and give it to a recruit.
What does that mean exactly?
Luv, it means a lot of Bambi will be writing in depth blogs on wtc's comment.
The bag's full of $ for a payoff Luv...he's joking (I think)
Be very very careful on the web. On the web a comment to a blog is considered a very reliable source.
I would like to second Norm's instructions for outsiders. That was well said.
Thank you ehyou, I'm very eloquent.
Man, I just checked my cable bill. I didn't know I was being charged per comment for HABOTN. Man, I may end up homeless, but at least I am informed.
Maybe we are approaching this QB battle all wrong. Which QB is most likely to lead the team in clipboard carries?
SteveFC - You Keep Given'm Hell on that article linked earlier. I think you have the idiot on the run....
SteveFC said...
Luv, it means a lot of Bambi will be writing in depth blogs on wtc's comment.
Steve, that's what I was thinking! They would have a field day with that one!
Loganville, that article just tickled the crap out of me, but I have left it behind. I think the guy must have been just making the crap up to get attention. Nobody could really believe that crap.
Steve, you don't know bammers very well, then.
Good afternoon.
Can anyone define "medocrity" for me? I didn't realize Auburn could reward our coaches for things which don't seem to exist in the dictionary. Perhaps if I aspired to "medocrity" in my profession then I'd also get a raise.
This is why I stick to lurking on this blog, nothing else compares.
Usually I try to leave atricles such as that one alone, but it was flawed in so many ways, I couldn't help myself. There are some things that you can argue and some things you can't. Was Todd Auburn's best QB option last season? I believe so. Someone else might think otherwise. Nobody is right or wrong because who knows what the other QBs would have accomplished. It is arguable.
But then there is that article, which is just simply bizarre to me. It is like arguing that the sky is green. You argue back. Then the guy states, well, I wasn't talking about on this planet. You go, okay, and step away from the conversation.
Jay said the following earlier.
"I'm going to write a HABOTN-only piece later today about an Auburn player whose career looks completely stalled ... and where he goes from here.
Anyone want to guess at the identity of the player? I am thinking Caudle or PPL.
"To deride Auburn's defensive coaches, particularly Roof, based on the 2009 numbers is silly. I am 100% certain that Roof is the right guy for this job and will make his critics eat crow sooner rather than later."
I was just as excited about the Roof hire as I was Malzhan. It's amazing what he did last year considering what he had to work with.
Aiight. I'm now working on the little project, though it's no longer a HABOTN exclusive.
Well, it'll be exclusive until it runs in Wednesday's sections of the Advertiser.
Give me until 2:45 p.m. CST.
Jet's guess: Eddins.
Rollison
That ought to get an Eddie response.
Eddins is a good guess. I was thinking about him after I posted Caudle and PPL. To me, though, PPL has become the invisible man. I wonder how he would do as a deep snapper?
I keep getting the impression that the Rollison Express is headed out of town.
3 more hours of sitting on my butt in the jury room before being dismissed.
New thread UPZ.
Jet - get up and walk over there. That ought to liven things up. Spend that $10 plus mileage wisely.
