Two Auburn assistants earn praise

Hey everyone. Rivals.com gave Auburn very high marks during the National Signing Day Sweepstakes, deeming coach Gene Chizik's class as the nation's fourth best.

Not too shabby.

Rivals.com on Monday recognized two assistants, Trooper Taylor and Curis Luper, as two of the nation's best recruiters.

Here's what the popular recruiting site had to say:

Luper landed two five-star prospects for the Tigers: junior college QB Cameron Newton and RB prospect Michael Dyer from Arkansas. He also helped the Tigers with Louisiana four-star athlete Trovon Reed. Three-star offensive tackle Ed Christian was also Luper's responsibility. Luper was also the primary mastermind behind "Tiger Prowl" and "Big Cat Weekend." Those two recruiting events helped create a great buzz for Auburn.

Taylor had a big year for the Tigers. He went to Mississippi and landed five-star offensive line prospect Shon Coleman. Taylor went to Louisiana to sign four-star athlete Trovon Reed. Taylor helped Auburn get a big one on Signing Day with four-star defensive end Corey Lemonier. Taylor also got three from Georgia: four-star wide receiver Antonio Goodwin, three-star defensive back Demetruce McNeal and athlete Shaun Kitchens. Four-star defensive end Joel Bonomolo is a junior college transfer from California. Taylor also landed a big in-state commitment in four-star wide receiver Jeremy Richardson. Seven of Taylor's eight prospects were from out of state.

You should know by now that me and my peops are quite immune to goat plague. In fact, I often season my raw oysters with goat plague. That is how immune I am to it.

That's really the only choice Lebo has. Though I'd rather see him out there with the fundamentally sound players trying to prove a point about technique and how that helps you win games...but he's already a lame duck so why not let the senior play street ball?

Do you think that a crippled duck would be offended that humans throw around his condition so lightly? Besides, it doesn't really make sense. A human lame duck is someone who will be out of power soon. A literal lame duck is currently powerless to walk. Who knows, he may even heal up in the future, making him the opposite of a human lame duck. Of course, if the lame duck metaphor just means a duck who sucks, then maybe the human lame duck comparison makes a little more sense. Also, I wouldn't feel guilty about the metaphor anymore, since ducks who suck deserve none of my pity. Just like people who suck.

OLED is gonna be the shiz.... deeper blacks than plasma, higher refresh, crisper/sharper pictures, higher contrast than lcd... greener more eco friendly...
If were going to buy something big, and wanted it to be the best.... I wouldn't buy now, I would wait on OLED. They should be out later this year.

I have seen (photos of) a 120" OLED.... simply A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!

I went with my three sisters. We go somewhere different every year for a long weekend sister's retreat. We haven't been to the Grand before for that, but I have been a few times in the past. I think I was supposed to be born rich and pampered. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Although hubby does do a good job with the pampering.

2:24 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Cincy, we had a great time. Sounds like you did, too. Yes, it was way too cold, but we still did a lot of stuff. We also hit a Mardi Gras parade and still managed to catch about half of the Super Bowl. With most people inside watching the SB, the kids made out like bandits at the parade. Among hundreds of other items, they ended up catching 21 stuffed animals.

Jet, the omelet itself was really good, but I think they need to upgrade the quality of the crabmeat. I think I took most of your recommendations on the other fillings.

Blogger Commish of Old Pimps said...

Luv: I looked at the Samsung LCD and Plasma too. I have a Samsung LCD already. To be honest, I can't tell a difference between them. I did more research than viewing, so I just went with the reviews, which seem to favor the Panasonic Plasma slightly over the Samsung.

Since I moved to Cincinnati in 1996. Our families get together every year for July 4th at my parents and we get together every other year for Christmas (there are about 25 of us all together). But, this is just the sisters. It gives us a chance to visit and catch up and not have to worry about husbands and kids getting left out. When we started I had a sister in Butler, AL, one in Phenix City, AL and one is Charlotte, NC and I was in Cincy. It is good to get together and keep up our sister bonds.

In Pat Forde's Forde Minutes column today on college basketball, he says Auburn is the worst basketball town in the SEC.

No argument there.

However, in general, when talking about what the best towns in SEC country are, he mentions Starkville as the worst (no surprise), but behind that he has Auburn and Fayetteville together.

WTH?!

Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

He rates the best SEC town as Nashville. He is clearly looking at it from an non college town perspective.

As a college town Auburn is great. But from things to do that are unrelated to Auburn there is very little, so I can see where he is coming from.

4:17 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Wake...the weird thing is that he rates Athens as the second best town in the SEC.

It's basically Auburn, only a little bigger.

4:20 PM
Blogger Commish of Old Pimps said...

I went to school in Athens and Auburn. Though all my allegiance is to Auburn (the school) and I love Auburn (the town), I don't think the latter comes close to Athens in any category. If you like your towns smaller and quainter, however, as some do, then Auburn wins. No comparison in any other category though IMO.

4:27 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Fair enough Benedict, but is it one of the three worst towns in the SEC?

I've been everywhere in the SEC other than Columbia, and I don't think so.

Granted, I don't think there are many bad towns in the SEC, either. Tuscaloosa is tops of my worst list obviously (which admittedly is a biased decision). Fayettenam and Stark-vegas are probably next.

Auburn's definitely not next

4:41 PM
Blogger Commish of Old Pimps said...

No, E-Bro, Auburn is No. 1, basketball and otherwise. I hereby retract anything suggesting otherwise, and declare my contempt for all other SEC cities.

4:43 PM
Blogger weagle251 said...

Dunno what other Auburn sites y'all look at, but this is an incredible read over at Track'em Tigers.

Interesting notes on Coleman, Reed, Latt, Cam, our coaches, and plenty of other recruits and players. I'm not expecting a breakout year this season, but I am VERY optimistic about where our program's going!

4:47 PM
Blogger michael said...

From the perspective of a sports writer, Auburn does not have a whole lot to offer. He probably based it on restaurants and hotels or something. I have been to Knoxville, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, Oxford, Nashville, and Starkville. Objectively, I would say it is better than Starkville and even with Oxford. Knoxville, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, and Nashville are all better stand alone towns.

As far as going to college there, I thought Auburn was perfect. Just enough food places and shopping variety, close enough to go to concerts in Atlanta and Birmingham, great outdoors stuff around there. Pretty weak bar scene by college standards, but good enough for me. But I imagine most schools consider their college towns perfect.

4:48 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

That's better Commish.

Again, I know I'm biased, and like I said, I generally like all the SEC towns outside of Fayettenam and Stark-vegas, but that's just the first time I've seen anybody poo poo Auburn.

Different strokes...

Forde was dead on in his assessment of Auburn as the SEC's worst basketball town, though. Absolutely no disagreement there.

Yeah, I'm a bit old fashioned.

I download some music, but I still like to go out and buy CD's and actually play them front to back in my car.

The iPod is a handy device and I like it, but it takes away from the sound quality in today's music.

Part of the reason for the Vinyl resurgence I think.

i've got a good bit of vinyl (punk), but I've converted it all to digital format (and have done the same for some of my friend's collections), but it's been a bit since I've bought anything. The last iPod or external hard driive into anyone's computer that'll let me and uploading it when I get home. The only cds I've touched have been checked out from the library (our libraries have a very extensive media collection) to rip. Arrrggggg says the new pirate.

8:11 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Yeah, I don't have any vinyl myself, but I know it's made a small comeback as of late.

I need to look into it in the future.

I'll download music and if somebody gives me an iTunes cards, I'll certainly use it, but I try to abstain from downloaded music for albums or artists that I really, really like.

Often times, downloaded music just acts as a bridge into something I want to pursue further (via a CD purchase) later on.

8:17 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

If I bought CD's instead of downloaded all of my music. My music budget would be well into the thousands every year. I simply can't afford it.

Thats why I don't have an Ipod, Itunes works fine for people who like to download the latest hits. I don't download songs, I download whole cd's, and frequently download whole collections.

8:22 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I've downloaded exactly one album from iTunes ever, and that's only because there was extra content that wasn't available elsewhere...as a organizational tool, iTunes rules. As a anything else, screw Apple. I know they've eased their stranglehold some, but the control thing pissed me off enough to never forgive them for that.

Like I said, I just prefer the sound quality of a CD if it's an album or band I really like.

Plus, before music downloads totally dilute the concept album, it's nice to listen to something from front to back instead of on shuffle.

From to time to time, unsolicited, I get iTunes cards as a gift.

That's the only time I get anything off of iTunes.

I've been to 11 of the 12 SEC cities.

If this is about hoops, then, yes, we're last and we deserve it. Bad arena. Bad atmosphere. Unengaged fan base. We can try to blame "the program," but Auburn fans need to "own the basketball problem."

As far as cities to visit, it's kinda hard to judge them. Nashville is a top 30 city.

Here's what I think: Nashville is a great American city. Lexington is a nice place. Haven't been to Columbia.

Auburn, Fayetteville, Athens and Oxford are great "college towns."

Gainesville has a lot of nice "scenery," but not much else to offer. Baton Rouge has scenery, but it's really a dump. As is Tuscaloosa.

Knoxville is a train wreck. But I love the mountains nearby.

Starkville is, well, the most aptly named town in America.

Speaking of music, Bonnaroo just released its 2010 line-up. Huge.

Might have to go this year if I can pry myself away from the World Cup (doubtful).

Jet...that's exactly what Forde said about Stark-Vegas.

He also said Pullman, WA (home of WSU), was basically just Starkville with snow.

I don't hear that much of a difference between a cd I compress to mp3 ( or related format) and the cd itself, personally. Some difference between an analog record and digital file, though.

The sad thing is they've got 10 times the hoops atmosphere we've got.

Athens is my favorite SEC city. Nashville 2nd. Auburn, Baton Rouge, Lexington, and Columbia third. Starkville 11th, Gainesville last in the world.

I don't feel as though we should acknowledge Nashville as an SEC city.

That'd be like giving Vandy a free pass for being Vandy.

Can't put lipstick on a pig.

Working on the q and a now.

Chizik was in rare form tonight. I'd go so far as to say he was engaging, which is not a word I often associate with him.

I'm stuck in a pickle. I have a 7 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep. However I am in the middle of watching Braveheart and it has to go back to Blockbuster before I leave.

I guess I'll drive tired.
