Two Auburn assistants earn praise
Hey everyone. Rivals.com gave Auburn very high marks during the National Signing Day Sweepstakes, deeming coach Gene Chizik's class as the nation's fourth best.
Not too shabby.
Rivals.com on Monday recognized two assistants, Trooper Taylor and Curis Luper, as two of the nation's best recruiters.
Here's what the popular recruiting site had to say:
Luper landed two five-star prospects for the Tigers: junior college QB Cameron Newton and RB prospect Michael Dyer from Arkansas. He also helped the Tigers with Louisiana four-star athlete Trovon Reed. Three-star offensive tackle Ed Christian was also Luper's responsibility. Luper was also the primary mastermind behind "Tiger Prowl" and "Big Cat Weekend." Those two recruiting events helped create a great buzz for Auburn.
Taylor had a big year for the Tigers. He went to Mississippi and landed five-star offensive line prospect Shon Coleman. Taylor went to Louisiana to sign four-star athlete Trovon Reed. Taylor helped Auburn get a big one on Signing Day with four-star defensive end Corey Lemonier. Taylor also got three from Georgia: four-star wide receiver Antonio Goodwin, three-star defensive back Demetruce McNeal and athlete Shaun Kitchens. Four-star defensive end Joel Bonomolo is a junior college transfer from California. Taylor also landed a big in-state commitment in four-star wide receiver Jeremy Richardson. Seven of Taylor's eight prospects were from out of state.

You should know by now that me and my peops are quite immune to goat plague. In fact, I often season my raw oysters with goat plague. That is how immune I am to it.
But really, stealing that page flip from you was deeply satisfying. I am thinking of going to the beach and kicking sand in a nerd's face now. I think a whole new world might have just been opened up to me.
But how about your goats?
Juan of the River as hoops coach?
Hmm.
Michael, I'm glad I've helped broaden your horizons. Moving on to kicking sand in peoples' faces...that's when you know you've arrived from internet thief to full blown bad@ss.
Maybe I'll go steal a laptop. I've heard its fun, and I hear perfectly well adjusted choir boy types do it.
Also, my peops = my goats = immune to goat plague.
Should I go to the AU/UGA game tomorrow night? Is watching DeWayne Reed throw away another conference game while Lebo sits by and stares blankly off into space worth it?
D. Miller- No
That's really the only choice Lebo has. Though I'd rather see him out there with the fundamentally sound players trying to prove a point about technique and how that helps you win games...but he's already a lame duck so why not let the senior play street ball?
I never even heard of OLED until you mentioned it, D. Miller. Who can keep up with technology anymore?
I almost spewed my Diet Dew on my computer screen when I read Seanzie's 1:38 post!
Do you think that a crippled duck would be offended that humans throw around his condition so lightly? Besides, it doesn't really make sense. A human lame duck is someone who will be out of power soon. A literal lame duck is currently powerless to walk. Who knows, he may even heal up in the future, making him the opposite of a human lame duck. Of course, if the lame duck metaphor just means a duck who sucks, then maybe the human lame duck comparison makes a little more sense. Also, I wouldn't feel guilty about the metaphor anymore, since ducks who suck deserve none of my pity. Just like people who suck.
OLED is gonna be the shiz.... deeper blacks than plasma, higher refresh, crisper/sharper pictures, higher contrast than lcd... greener more eco friendly...
If were going to buy something big, and wanted it to be the best.... I wouldn't buy now, I would wait on OLED. They should be out later this year.
I have seen (photos of) a 120" OLED.... simply A.M.A.Z.I.N.G.!
michael, that needs to go on your blog, if it's not already.
OLED are gonna cost and arm and a butt though. You could get a good 50 inch plasma for under $1000.
Luv, which Seanzie 1:38 post? He had about 12 of em.
Good call Luv. I actually kind of forgot about my blog. I haven't updated it in months. Perhaps it is time again.
i like ducks
Even ducks that suck?
Are ducks that suck the same as whack quacks?
well there sre those few ducks that suck, but they probably have brain tumors or something that makes them mean, so I give them a break.
Say, that reminds me...this past weekend at the Grand Hotel, I had some duck from the buffet. My daughter was horrified, as she thinks ducks are really cute. I made things all better by telling her they get the ducks for the buffet from the pond out in front of the hotel. Good thing she's old enough to take a joke!
Just show her a clip of Howard the Duck and tell her it was him. He definitely deserved to die and be devoured by humans, and even children can understand that.

Sorry harrison. You need to get some youtubes.
Michael, oh yeah, you're right.
The one that started with "son of a"
Oled, Shmoled. I just picked up the 65" Panasonic Viera Plasma. Can't wait to watch my goat slaughterhouse and packaging plant DVD in Blue-Ray, Hi-Def.
can't see you tube at work...jokes on you
SC,
How was the Grand? We had a grand time :) But it was so dang cold! Did your wife say she saw us? We would be hard to miss - we had on hot pink t-shirts and pink and green tulle bows tied in our hair. 4 grown women playing dress-up. we were quite the sight!
Scott and Cincy ...
I need an omelet report from the Grand.
65"??? Our house isn't big enough for anything that big!
We have a 42" Panasonic Viera that we got about 4 years ago. I was happy with it until I watched tv on my parents' 46" Samsung 1080i 120 Hz last Christmas.
Jet,
My omelet was wonderful! But some guy made mine, I was remembering a woman made my last one? We ate for about 3 hours - eat a little, talk a lot, go eat a little more, talk a lot more, from about 9 to noon. Mmmmmm!
Now I've made myself hungry.
Nice.
Cincy, is that something you do every year? (who did you go with again? I forget)
Did we just fly through Duck Puppet Hour early?
It's Howdy Doody Time!
Comm'r, how many did you look at before deciding on that one?
Luv,
I went with my three sisters. We go somewhere different every year for a long weekend sister's retreat. We haven't been to the Grand before for that, but I have been a few times in the past. I think I was supposed to be born rich and pampered. Unfortunately that didn't happen. Although hubby does do a good job with the pampering.
Cincy, we had a great time. Sounds like you did, too. Yes, it was way too cold, but we still did a lot of stuff. We also hit a Mardi Gras parade and still managed to catch about half of the Super Bowl. With most people inside watching the SB, the kids made out like bandits at the parade. Among hundreds of other items, they ended up catching 21 stuffed animals.
Jet, the omelet itself was really good, but I think they need to upgrade the quality of the crabmeat. I think I took most of your recommendations on the other fillings.
Luv: I looked at the Samsung LCD and Plasma too. I have a Samsung LCD already. To be honest, I can't tell a difference between them. I did more research than viewing, so I just went with the reviews, which seem to favor the Panasonic Plasma slightly over the Samsung.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Cincy, I think it's awesome you do something like that with your sisters every year. How long have you been doing it?
Luv,
Since I moved to Cincinnati in 1996. Our families get together every year for July 4th at my parents and we get together every other year for Christmas (there are about 25 of us all together). But, this is just the sisters. It gives us a chance to visit and catch up and not have to worry about husbands and kids getting left out. When we started I had a sister in Butler, AL, one in Phenix City, AL and one is Charlotte, NC and I was in Cincy. It is good to get together and keep up our sister bonds.
Hey peeps.
Chizik is speaking in Montgomery tonight and I'll be there with a recorder in hand. I'll post comments from The Head Coach around 8 p.m. if everything goes according to plan.
Horray for Jay!
Bringing his peeps what we want.
I'll bet Chizik drops some bombshells tonight at that function.
I was thinking that too, Michael.
Are you going to Ustream it? The Ustram App from the Android Market is better than the iphone app, and lets us cool kids view any ustream broadcast (well, when it's not crashing)live. Also like how it allows for live broacasting, but don't like how it chops your videos up into 50 second clips.
I saw you got a new phone the other day PF, what did you get? Droid?
i got to hang with Otis Nixon, Jordan Shafer, & Jo-Jo Reyes this afternoon. pretty cool. Jo-Jo seems like a nice fella.
Go Braves!
What's Ron Gant up to these days?
Even if he was the Pedro Ceranno of the Braves, guy was my hero in the Worst to First years.
Gant does pre & post game analysis/chit-chat for Braves games. i think he's on TBS & FSN.
I think he was an analyst with Sports South last season E-Bro and a good one too.
Aside from that, I'm sure he's working on his guns.
I am due for an April trip to the Grand. I will personally inspect the crabmeat.
SportsSouth. i was drawing a blank. thanks.
i have misplaced my glasses at work and can't see anything. i may be here all nite hotties. ggrrrr. sure can't drive like this.
Just got an email from someone who wants to see the condo this weekend! Keep your fingers crossed, hotties!
Samsung Moment...yeah, running Android 1.5. All accounts say the software upgrade to 2.0 is ready to be release, so I went ahead and got it. If Sprint doesn't roll it out soon, though, heads. will. roll.
But anyway, it's really cool so far. I dig it. The Android App Market is pretty big, and there are a ton of hacks that can be done to the phone (I'm gonna try to teather it tonight, so I can take it back and yell shenanigans if I screw up the root).
Phonebotn v2.1
Yeah, TBS does not do Braves baseball anymore.
Kind of sad, because the Peachtree Network doesn't have the same reach. You could always count on TBS and Braves baseball in the summer.
So it goes. Maybe that's part of why I'm not a big baseball fan anymore.
Hooray for the possible end of Cincytiger: Condo Saleswoman :-)
Yep, Ted built and empire then tore it down.
EEESSSHHH...I feel so old. PF sounds like he's talking another language.
That does suck EBro. The Braves and TBS just belong together.
PF,
That can;t happen any too soon for me! Then I can buy one of those fancy new TVs y'all have been discussing. :)
But, I will still have cemetery plots to sell :)
wait, Cincy, selling your new condo or an old one? confused.
Old one, so I can furnish my new one :)
We had a condo for our kids while they were students. Our son graduates in May so we took the plunge and bought us a new one. But, for now we have two.
In Pat Forde's Forde Minutes column today on college basketball, he says Auburn is the worst basketball town in the SEC.
No argument there.
However, in general, when talking about what the best towns in SEC country are, he mentions Starkville as the worst (no surprise), but behind that he has Auburn and Fayetteville together.
WTH?!
How has the Auburn real estate market fared over the past couple years?
gotcha. cool beans Cincy.
E-Bro,
He is crazy. Has he ever even been to Auburn? I would love to see the statistics about how many graduates move back to Auburn after retirement or even earlier in their career. I hear that a lot from Auburn people, not so much from most other colleges.
Wake,
Student condos within walking distance to campus fly off the shelves. The luxury condos have been a bit slower. I don't really have any doubts our will sell, I am just impatient because my spending has been frozen until it does. Hubby doesn't like to see all the money going out with none coming in.
I know we're biased, but I've never heard of an outsider that I know who has been to Auburn and didn't think it was a cool town.
E-Bro,
On what is he basing his criteria? I would read the article, but I don't want to hate anymore than I am at the moment.
He rates the best SEC town as Nashville. He is clearly looking at it from an non college town perspective.
As a college town Auburn is great. But from things to do that are unrelated to Auburn there is very little, so I can see where he is coming from.
Wake...the weird thing is that he rates Athens as the second best town in the SEC.
It's basically Auburn, only a little bigger.
I went to school in Athens and Auburn. Though all my allegiance is to Auburn (the school) and I love Auburn (the town), I don't think the latter comes close to Athens in any category. If you like your towns smaller and quainter, however, as some do, then Auburn wins. No comparison in any other category though IMO.
Fair enough Benedict, but is it one of the three worst towns in the SEC?
I've been everywhere in the SEC other than Columbia, and I don't think so.
Granted, I don't think there are many bad towns in the SEC, either. Tuscaloosa is tops of my worst list obviously (which admittedly is a biased decision). Fayettenam and Stark-vegas are probably next.
Auburn's definitely not next
No, E-Bro, Auburn is No. 1, basketball and otherwise. I hereby retract anything suggesting otherwise, and declare my contempt for all other SEC cities.
Dunno what other Auburn sites y'all look at, but this is an incredible read over at Track'em Tigers.
Interesting notes on Coleman, Reed, Latt, Cam, our coaches, and plenty of other recruits and players. I'm not expecting a breakout year this season, but I am VERY optimistic about where our program's going!
From the perspective of a sports writer, Auburn does not have a whole lot to offer. He probably based it on restaurants and hotels or something. I have been to Knoxville, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, Oxford, Nashville, and Starkville. Objectively, I would say it is better than Starkville and even with Oxford. Knoxville, Gainesville, Baton Rouge, and Nashville are all better stand alone towns.
As far as going to college there, I thought Auburn was perfect. Just enough food places and shopping variety, close enough to go to concerts in Atlanta and Birmingham, great outdoors stuff around there. Pretty weak bar scene by college standards, but good enough for me. But I imagine most schools consider their college towns perfect.
That's better Commish.
Again, I know I'm biased, and like I said, I generally like all the SEC towns outside of Fayettenam and Stark-vegas, but that's just the first time I've seen anybody poo poo Auburn.
Different strokes...
Forde was dead on in his assessment of Auburn as the SEC's worst basketball town, though. Absolutely no disagreement there.
Anybody enjoy playing golf in the cold?
Timberline is having a 2 man best ball tourny on Monday... $60 per entrant... that is cheaper than a normal round there.
Anybody wanna play a round of golf?
i like embers.
Hi THT,
Long time, no talkey. How is 2.0? Did she have a good birthday?
weagle thanks for that link. Unfortunately it has made me want us to skip straight to September, and I know we have 7 months to go yet.
Very interesting stuff that's coming from the new guys. I understand promoting the Auburn family. But I wonder what the coaches are saying or how they are saying it that made us a viable option for so much great young talent. Or is it that the previous regime really focused on a different group, or didn't think they could recruit that level. It's great to know there's a new sheriff in town.
Yes, weagle, thanks for the article. It was awesome to read about these new guys.
I'm sorry to say that Athens beats Auburn hands down for activities outside the University. Athens has a real music industry and a great nightlife. Auburn has it's spots but we mostly made our own fun as students.
That said, Auburn is on my list of retirement places (if I can find a retirement job). Athens isn't, even though I lived there longer.
PF,
What are you counting down?
I think if Auburn didn't have such a crappy basketball team, we wouldn't have such a crappy basketball town. I do recall that the place was loaded when Sonny was coaching and Barkley, Person, Ford, and Morris were playing. I would say Auburn was a REALLY good basketball town then.
Omg, midpage Boom. Unprescedented. I'm better than anyone in the world at this exact moment.
You go, boom! No one else is better at this moment.
Wow. You guys ruined my absolute greatness.
absolute greatness, indeed! (not to be confused with absolute zer0 ;-)
I admire PF's greatness any place on the page.
Cincy - 2.0 had birthday dinner at a superb seafood restaurant near the airport in Florence. The landlord's family of one of 2.0's classmates owns the restaurant. 2.0 and 2 classmates went and had a wonderful meal and got family discount to boot.
Yeah, sorry about that PF.
Here's the deal. It's going to be a lot later with the chizik q and a. Our primary writer tonight called in sick, so I've gotta write the "proper" story first. And i'm still here.
So be patient with me.
Love, jgt
patience is a virtue.
GET SOME!
Writer Tate,
We'll be here tonight and we'll be here tomorrow, so whenever you want to do it is just fine.
This is unacceptable. I pay good money to be on this website and I expect prompt substance at all time.
If I don't have he Q and A by 8:30 Eastern Standard Time. I want a full refund of my money
what I find unacceptable is an airline saying the price is $X, including fees, taxes, surcharges, but then has no flights less than $X+100.
That is unacceptable.
No Ustream :-(
I'm sitting with "Jim Rome" from the site ... So I'll have him handle the refunds.
Love, jgt
that's awesome
Could we get a live blog of the "
proper" story?
Homer - I want EVERYBODY'S money back, payable to me.
Oh, and I still want that pony too.
Mtd, that got a hearty chuckle out of me.
I hate it that you guys have to pay for this privilage, some of the more important members get a free ride.
Just shut up and pay up.
E tha, I meant the live blog comment.
Norm pass the hat!
every now and then I get a good one, PF
How long can it possibly take to write a proper story? Quit jerking us around.
I'm still at this doggone event!
Oh. Well, in that case, how much coach spreak can a coach speak? Quit jerking us around.
Pandora is my favorite app...it's lacking in some areas that my iPod is not, but is far better when it comes to playing music I don't have.My iPod just looks back at me confused when I ask it to do that.
The intro was five minutes! Sheesh.
How much wood woulda woodchuck chuck if a woodchuck could chuck wood.
heyooooooooooooo
My Zune is scaring me, its making noises its never made before. I don't know what my life would be like without it.
Pandora rocks.
Even thought it's free, it's probably cost me a bit of money just b/c it's turned me on to a lot of new music that I've ended up buying.
Microsoft does some really good stuff; coming up with answers to competitor's products is not one of them. Bing, Zune, and Vista are the best examples of this.
i'm listening to The Cranberries
what is this buying music that you speak of?
People buy music?
I agree Bing and Vista suck. But I have owned both Ipods and Zunes, and the Zune is only a half a tick behind the Ipod. And when you factor in the Zune marketplace and its 15$ all you can eat buffet, it blows the Ipod out of the water for a music nut like myself.
Yeah, I'm a bit old fashioned.
I download some music, but I still like to go out and buy CD's and actually play them front to back in my car.
The iPod is a handy device and I like it, but it takes away from the sound quality in today's music.
Part of the reason for the Vinyl resurgence I think.
Wow, did talk of Compact Discs and Vinyl really just kill this thread?
My B.
Let's all keep downloading below par sound quality songs from the internet.
i've got a good bit of vinyl (punk), but I've converted it all to digital format (and have done the same for some of my friend's collections), but it's been a bit since I've bought anything. The last iPod or external hard driive into anyone's computer that'll let me and uploading it when I get home. The only cds I've touched have been checked out from the library (our libraries have a very extensive media collection) to rip. Arrrggggg says the new pirate.
Yeah, I don't have any vinyl myself, but I know it's made a small comeback as of late.
I need to look into it in the future.
I'll download music and if somebody gives me an iTunes cards, I'll certainly use it, but I try to abstain from downloaded music for albums or artists that I really, really like.
Often times, downloaded music just acts as a bridge into something I want to pursue further (via a CD purchase) later on.
If I bought CD's instead of downloaded all of my music. My music budget would be well into the thousands every year. I simply can't afford it.
Thats why I don't have an Ipod, Itunes works fine for people who like to download the latest hits. I don't download songs, I download whole cd's, and frequently download whole collections.
I've downloaded exactly one album from iTunes ever, and that's only because there was extra content that wasn't available elsewhere...as a organizational tool, iTunes rules. As a anything else, screw Apple. I know they've eased their stranglehold some, but the control thing pissed me off enough to never forgive them for that.
I hear ya Wake, and as a result, I do download music, but I still buy an economically feasible amount of CD's.
Like I said, I just prefer the sound quality of a CD if it's an album or band I really like.
Plus, before music downloads totally dilute the concept album, it's nice to listen to something from front to back instead of on shuffle.
From to time to time, unsolicited, I get iTunes cards as a gift.
That's the only time I get anything off of iTunes.
I've been to 11 of the 12 SEC cities.
If this is about hoops, then, yes, we're last and we deserve it. Bad arena. Bad atmosphere. Unengaged fan base. We can try to blame "the program," but Auburn fans need to "own the basketball problem."
As far as cities to visit, it's kinda hard to judge them. Nashville is a top 30 city.
Here's what I think: Nashville is a great American city. Lexington is a nice place. Haven't been to Columbia.
Auburn, Fayetteville, Athens and Oxford are great "college towns."
Gainesville has a lot of nice "scenery," but not much else to offer. Baton Rouge has scenery, but it's really a dump. As is Tuscaloosa.
Knoxville is a train wreck. But I love the mountains nearby.
Starkville is, well, the most aptly named town in America.
Speaking of music, Bonnaroo just released its 2010 line-up. Huge.
Might have to go this year if I can pry myself away from the World Cup (doubtful).
Jet...that's exactly what Forde said about Stark-Vegas.
He also said Pullman, WA (home of WSU), was basically just Starkville with snow.
I don't hear that much of a difference between a cd I compress to mp3 ( or related format) and the cd itself, personally. Some difference between an analog record and digital file, though.
The sad thing is they've got 10 times the hoops atmosphere we've got.
Where is Homer the substitute sportswriter?
THE NETS ARE 4-47
Weagle, that was a great article about recruiting. Thanks!
Athens is my favorite SEC city. Nashville 2nd. Auburn, Baton Rouge, Lexington, and Columbia third. Starkville 11th, Gainesville last in the world.
I don't feel as though we should acknowledge Nashville as an SEC city.
That'd be like giving Vandy a free pass for being Vandy.
Can't put lipstick on a pig.
Working on the q and a now.
Chizik was in rare form tonight. I'd go so far as to say he was engaging, which is not a word I often associate with him.
Jhag, their record is the least of the Nets worries. Win or Lose they still are in Jersey.
Thanks JayG.
Chiz showin' the Sizz!
that was funny, wake
I'm stuck in a pickle. I have a 7 hour drive ahead of me tomorrow, so I need to get some sleep. However I am in the middle of watching Braveheart and it has to go back to Blockbuster before I leave.
I guess I'll drive tired.
