Great was to send out the gray lady. I had some wonderful memories there, but it was way past time.

I like what I have seen from this team the past few games. They have played much better and the young guys have gotten tons of playing time. Some of them contributed some quality minutes.

Watching some of the highlights of Porter were awesome. He was a beast. I am expecting similar things from Manchild Jr.

Lebo has to be back for next season. We can't lose the recruits we already have, going into the new crib. Fire Lebo, and recruits run for the hills.

The big UNLESS on that one is if we have a coach ready to take over, and secure those recruits right away.

I just don't see that happening, though.

Also, who are we going to get who would be any better? NO ONE. We'd have to gamble on a young coach, and go through all the growing pains that Lebo has been going through.

He may not be a great coach, but if we stick with him, I bet he ends up being a pretty good one.

ElTurbo and I had a big time ... sat in the corner up top ... pretty neat that Wally Tinker banked it in for the final shot (on his first try).

Jet Player of the Game: Brendon Knox ... made FTs and and overshadowed Vanardo.

Waller, as amazing as he was, was gobbled up for stretches by Stewart.

Reed made more than his share of crazy shots.

Maybe I'm cranky or less rational in my old age, but it sure looked like the officials were doing their best at times to keep the Puppies in the game. Then after Knox turned into Rick Barry at the line, they shut it down.

Dee Bost = Rick Stansbury's version of Reed. Sometimes he's good. Sometimes he's bad. He was more good than bad tonight.

Maryland fans stormed the court tonight?

And here I thought beating Duke wasn't what it once was.

10:45 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

All four seniors tonight brought it tonight for their farewell home performance.

Hargove went 5-10 for 16 points.

Knox went 7-9 for 21 points (where the hell did that come from?).

Reed went 7-12 for 19 points.

Tay was 8-15 for 22 points.

Shot over 50% from the field. Beat State on the glass and only had eight turnovers.

Despite some below average free throw shooting, that's about as clean as Auburn basketball gets I'd say, and against the probable Western Division champs no less.

Luv,
We have had some interest, but no serious lookers. I think if we ever get people in to actually see the condo, it will sell quickly. Talking to realtors in town, sales are later this year than in years past. Not really worried because every condo in this complex that has been up for sale has always sold. I am just impatient.

7:33 AM

Cincy, don't you mean the tourney snuck up on you? I have the DVR set and we're going to watch the Lady Tigers tonight.

I'd be impatient to sell the condo too if I already had another one! Hopefully, when the weather gets nice - like this weekend is supposed to be - people will be more inclined to get out and look!

Jet, I agree with your assesment of the game. Knox stepped up and challenged the MSU big men. He was the difference in the game. Of course the Tay Waller 3-pointer with a second left on the shot clock, off the in-bounds pass as he's falling out of bounds in the corner was the best shot of the game.

Blogger chip chip said...

if lebo can get the team to make a little run in the sec tournament, then i guess he deserves the chance to open the new arena. just about anyone can win with waller shooting as hot as he is from 3.

if AU is one and done in nville, he needs to go. if they show any signs of life, it may just be prolonging the agony of fans, but i can stomach giving him another chance. i pretty much know what to expect from a lebo coached team now. i would say semis or beating uk or vandy etc in the tourney for lebo to see 2010-11.

all that said, congrats to the seniors and coach lebo for last nights win to close out the dump. the place at least deserved a win at the end.

Nice game last night, we appear to be saying goodbye to The Beav on a winning note.

That said, I'm a little uncomfortable referring to The Beav as a 'she'.

From the previous thread: I was fortunate to have performed in The Barn back in the summer of '81. Watching it burn down live on ESPN 15 years later (shown at the 1:05 mark in this clip) was kind of nostalgic for me.

I can reasons to keep and fire Lebo. I personally believe he will be here next year. I think he was promised a chance to coach in this new arena. I think he deserves a lot of the credit for the new arena. He really pushed for it.

If anyone knows basketball they can see good things in Lebo and this team. His biggest downfall has been recruiting not his coaching ability. Recruiting to Auburn was almost impossible till now. I think good times are ahead.

11:27 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Here is the question that Jay Jacobs and the PTB need to ask themselves: do you believe Auburn will be substantially better at the end of the 2010-11 season with Jeff Lebo as coach?

Whether he wins the UAT game shouldn't factor in that decision, although I suspect it could.

I guess I want to know how much coin we're willing to pay for a coach. If we've paid $92 million for an arena, I would hope we're willing to pay $7.5 million for five years for a coach.

11:38 AM

Cincy and Luv,

My informed opinion is this: Lebo will remain the coach.

He was promised a new arena in two years. It took 6. The idea was that Lebo would be the guy to open said arena.

Knowing the way Jay Jacobs thinks (most of the time), he'll stick to Hal Baird's word and let Lebo coach in the new arena.

We'll both finish with the same league record, but we will have split the season series. We'll both also have the same record against Western Division opponents if Bama wins.

Hopefully we beat them and it's a moot point, but was wondering.

I never take loudmouth celebrities lightly. If a celebrity is gonna step out and be bold, they better be right with how I think. If celebrities are gonna clutter the media with their opinions, then I'm gonna spew on them for interrupting my entertainment if I disagree with them. Too many stoopid Americans take to heart what their favorite celebs say. Sadly, most celebs are good at something other than having a valid opinion.

SEC Tournament Tie-Breaker Procedures
1. Two-Team Tie: The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken: A) Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two teams. B) Division won-lost record of the two teams (10 games). C) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed in their division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). D) Non-division won-lost record of the two teams (six games). E) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed in the opposite division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). F) Coin flip by the Commissioner.

2. Three-Team Tie (or more): When three of more teams are tied for a division finish, the following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken. If two teams remain tied after a tiebreaker provision, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be used. A) Total won-lost record of games played among the tied teams (Example: Team A is 3-1, Team B is 2-2 and Team C is 1-3 - - Team A would be seeded highest, Team B second-highest and Team C lowest of the three). B) Division won-lost record of the tied teams (10 games). C) Won-lost record of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed in their division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). D) Non-division won-lost record of the tied teams (six games). E) Won-lost record of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed in the opposite division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). F) Draw by the Commissioner.

Except for 5-6 of the best coaches in the game, what is the best any of you thinks another coach could have done with the talent that Lebo has? I don't believe things would have been a whole lot better with anyone else. You've got to have talent and for many reasons that have been listed on here Auburn hasn't been able to attract it.

Hoopie,

I as well would prefer to make a change at the basketball coach, but far bet it from me to stop you calling people lame on here.

2:14 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

The basketball team's biggest issue was the lack of rebounding. They never did replace Barber's 11 rpg in conference games.

If you will remember last year, this team won a lot of games with scores in the low 70s, high 60s. Vot was a big part of that. His rebounding allowed Auburn to gain or keep 5 or 6 extra posessions a game. That adds up during a game. If Auburn scores on 3 of those and gets 3 extra stops, then that is a 12 point swing in games, and that adds up to a some extra wins.

2:18 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Auburn women up 32-26 on Florida at the half.

2:28 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Stu has an excellent point. The difference is inside. Brendan Knox and Johnny Lett have not been able to replicate the Rasheem Barrett/Vot Barber 4/5 spots on the boards and being able to put up 15 pts a game between them. You lose those boards you lose opportunity to extend possessions or take possessions from the other team. Also without the ability to score from the paint it puts extra pressure on your guards.

2:30 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Also, Reed is not half the player Tez was. We had a bunch of talent last year. We won a bunch of games and probably should have went to the tournament.

Blogger Ephemeral said...

Go, Auburn Women!

2:39 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

Vot averaged a touch over 10 boards a game, but that was closer to 11 per in conference games.

He was SO good for us last year.

In comparison, our leading rebounder this year is Hargrove at 7 rpg.

2:40 PM
Blogger CHB said...

So the last few post kind of supported my point. With talent Lebo can win. Some people more in the know about basketball than any of us have said that he can coach. The talent will start coming and I believe we will see a difference.

2:43 PM
Blogger michael said...

I can't believe you guys actually follow Auburn basketball. How's the tennis team look this year?

2:43 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

CH=B,

I agree with you, but I think the frustration of many folks on here is that Lebo is responsible for getting the talent to Auburn, and even though I am a Lebo supporter the talent is not there witht he inside positions.

That said, I still think the nucleus of Kemp Jr., Sullivan, Ross, Gabriel, Malone, has a chance to be pretty good.

Unlike Kentucky, Uconn, Duke, etc, who reload, Auburn does have to rebuild every few years.

2:48 PM
Blogger Jet said...

CH ... he hasn't shown he can get talent and keep it.

To what extent the AAU situation has handcuffed us is an important issue to be solved.

Do you believe we will be better next year than we are right now? My answer to that question is: not very likely.

I believed we would be better this year, and we haven't been. And that's been with a weak division

2:49 PM
Blogger CHB said...

100% agree that it is Lebo's responsibility to get the talent. Everyone who is frustrated needs to look at the situation though. He has/had a 40 yr old arena (with very few upgrades), no practice facilities and basically nothing helping him recruit. That is why I believe he should get some more time. Usually I would say 6 yrs is enough, but I understand the situation he took over. As I asked before, how many other coaches (- the 5-6 that are considered the best in the country) could have done better? I also understand the game of basketball (been around it since the 3rd grade) and I have seen some things to be happy about. Most of the frustrating things I've seen have been due to talent. The only negative I see with Lebo is his ability to fire up the fan base.

2:54 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

Cuddly HABOTN,

Maybe. If the young nucleus I have mentioned improves, then maybe.

2:54 PM
Blogger Jet said...

CH ... I was Lebo's No. 1 defender around here for a long time. DMiller used to wear me out about him.

To answer your question, Coach K, I presume would have made this team more disciplined. Win a bunch more games? I don't know. But I know this: Teams with that many seniors usually do better than 15-15, particularly teams in a weak division.

I've always thought Lebo can X and O. But the streets are littered with X and O guys. At schools other than the 5-6 big dogs you reference, they often end up sitting next to the dynamic head coach who can recruit his butt off.

No one has said this yet, I don't believe, but we benefited greatly from some shots falling that we shouldn't have taken.

I'd say more like 1 out a million.

So you're telling me there's a chance. Yes!

I don't think ehyou has read my authorized biography, Jet. It's titled "Huckleberry Finn". Unfortunately, there is apparently another book with that name, and it usually dominates internet searches when people are looking for my life story. Whoops.
