Last dance.
Reed with a 3!
Big 10 Preview tonight with Robert Barga (BC Sports) @ 8 p.m. CT.
Link for your downloading pleasure after the game tonight..
Thanks for the support.
Good crowd.
Big 10?
Sorry I can't join the live chat, but I don't get to watch live TV until around 0730 when the FAUWG goes to sleep.
FAUWG?
We are previewing each BCS conference for the next six weeks. Big 10's guest confirmed first.
Can't access chat with the Bberry. Is Meo in the house?
Chat won't let me on says it is above capacity so I will check back later
Okay, just go home and listening on the radio.....what is this that the chatroom is full?!!
Do we have pay up to be able to chat....
2 minutes now and I get kicked out, awesome.
Rod Bramblett actually sounds happy for a change...
hope we have some embers soon. I like embers.
WOOHOOO!!! We Won!
Can we start the season over with this new team?
Sounds like this team played with heart tonight. I like how Lebo has played the youngster over the past few games. I think that will help these kids next season. They wil know what Lebo expects from them.
Yes, he will be back next season.
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO I MISSED IT
MEO was in the house and looked resplendent in her ... whatever she was wearing.
Heard LaMichael Fanning is taking a visit this weekend, probably top player in AL
Jhag-I hear he winds up from the state he transferred from. I think it is GA.
G, FAUWG=Future Auburn Womens Golfer.
Great was to send out the gray lady. I had some wonderful memories there, but it was way past time.
I like what I have seen from this team the past few games. They have played much better and the young guys have gotten tons of playing time. Some of them contributed some quality minutes.
Watching some of the highlights of Porter were awesome. He was a beast. I am expecting similar things from Manchild Jr.
Yeah he moved to Opelika from Georgia, i wouldnt bet against our staff though
Lebo has to be back for next season. We can't lose the recruits we already have, going into the new crib. Fire Lebo, and recruits run for the hills.
The big UNLESS on that one is if we have a coach ready to take over, and secure those recruits right away.
I just don't see that happening, though.
Also, who are we going to get who would be any better? NO ONE. We'd have to gamble on a young coach, and go through all the growing pains that Lebo has been going through.
He may not be a great coach, but if we stick with him, I bet he ends up being a pretty good one.
Way to close the Beav in style, Tigers!!!
As for LaMichael, um, parents apparently had LaSpelling problem. Weird name. Hopefully he will be LaTiger.
We're gonna roll through the tourney and go deep in the dance. You heard it here first.
frame...
Lebo has recruits that matter? Really?
CMON DUKEY!!!
Charles Barkely was at the Georgia-Kentucky game in Athens tonight.
WTH?!
Why not an hour and a half the other side of ATL to see the final game at your old stomping ground?
CMON TURTLES!
Because Charles Barkley is an idiot. I know he was a great bb player, but he doesn't do it for me. He needs to keep his trap closed more often.
cincy...
Now please tell us how you really feel.
I don't think he represents Auburn very well. Is that better :)
Vasquez is such a little crap...
you hear Marylands crowd saying f duke ? lol
I can't disagree...what comes out of his mouth is often pretty dumb.
Jon Scheyer.
dangittttttttttt
Just scored 6 parsons chairs for the condo. Going shopping tomorrow - doing happy dance.
Just think how happy I would be if we sold the old condo and I could buy everything I want for the new condo. C'mon, make me happy!
Congrats Maryland for beating Duke for the first time in 3 years
I agree with the Maryland students. Hard times in Krzyzewskiville. HARD. TIMES.
Yeah hard times when you might have to settle for a number 2 seed in the tourney
ElTurbo and I had a big time ... sat in the corner up top ... pretty neat that Wally Tinker banked it in for the final shot (on his first try).
Jet Player of the Game: Brendon Knox ... made FTs and and overshadowed Vanardo.
Waller, as amazing as he was, was gobbled up for stretches by Stewart.
Reed made more than his share of crazy shots.
Maybe I'm cranky or less rational in my old age, but it sure looked like the officials were doing their best at times to keep the Puppies in the game. Then after Knox turned into Rick Barry at the line, they shut it down.
Dee Bost = Rick Stansbury's version of Reed. Sometimes he's good. Sometimes he's bad. He was more good than bad tonight.
Maryland fans stormed the court tonight?
And here I thought beating Duke wasn't what it once was.
All four seniors tonight brought it tonight for their farewell home performance.
Hargove went 5-10 for 16 points.
Knox went 7-9 for 21 points (where the hell did that come from?).
Reed went 7-12 for 19 points.
Tay was 8-15 for 22 points.
Shot over 50% from the field. Beat State on the glass and only had eight turnovers.
Despite some below average free throw shooting, that's about as clean as Auburn basketball gets I'd say, and against the probable Western Division champs no less.
March 1, 2009 -- The Auburn women defeat Arkansas, 94-57, to claim their first SEC regular-season title in 20 years. It is the first of their five SEC regular season titles to be clinched at Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum.
huh?
was there, was a lot of fun, can't wait to be in attendance to open auburn arena next year
I might be there too
Great game to be, the crowd, although not a sellout, was electric. A few poor calls, but a solid performance by Auburn. Waller looked untouchable in person.
Feng! Where ya been?
Maryland students tore down signs and set several small fires celebrating last night. Someone needs to send them a few cases of toilet paper.
Smoke alarm weak battery decided to start chirping at 4:40 this morning. I prefer to wake up to my iTunes.
Great wins for AU and MD last night.
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!! Hotties.
Good morning, Hotties! Happy Thursday!
What a great way to close out BEMC! I'm sure they made Auburn proud.
Tar Heel, the smoke detector in our garage has been chirping on and off for probably a year. It's hardwired to the house and we've changed the battery several times, so we don't know what the heck is wrong.
Cincy, have you had any nibbles on your old condo?
Good morning all.
Cincy, I completely agree on Barkley. I wish he had never attended Auburn. I hate it when the vocal "trash" outshine the "class".
Nice of Aero to show up and point out an error.
I just assumed it was supposed to read that it was the last of their 5 to be won there.
Anywho...glad we got the win last night.
So does Lebo keep his job with a win over Bama this weekend?
As for Barkley, just don't take him seriously. Barkley doesn't take Barkley seriously, why should we?
Lebo is safe even if I disagree with it strongly.
Oh well....another long season next year as well, but at least we should have better talent, or so I'm led to believe.
RK ... in re the Chuckster, I concur.
Eddie/RK/WTC ... in re Lebo ... not so sure he's safe ... beating UAT would probably do it. I know the proprietor of another site is now saying he's safe after saying he's gone.
Under Jet's Rule No. 1 of Information/Disinformation, the first thing you hear is probably true. What happens is the truth slips out, then smokescreens are developed to cover it.
I have supported Lebo until this season and felt he would be fine if given enough chance.
I was going to say he has jumped the shark, but that would imply previous success.
I personally would like to see a fresh start in a fresh arena.
So, Jet, what was the first thing you heard?
I agree with Eddie. I think he gets another year.
Curse you Perry the Platypus!
He's a semi-aquatic, egg-laying mammal of action...
Good morning, winning Hotties!
Did y'all know the SEC womens' tourney starts today? That slipped up on me.
Luv,
We have had some interest, but no serious lookers. I think if we ever get people in to actually see the condo, it will sell quickly. Talking to realtors in town, sales are later this year than in years past. Not really worried because every condo in this complex that has been up for sale has always sold. I am just impatient.
Cincy, don't you mean the tourney snuck up on you? I have the DVR set and we're going to watch the Lady Tigers tonight.
I'd be impatient to sell the condo too if I already had another one! Hopefully, when the weather gets nice - like this weekend is supposed to be - people will be more inclined to get out and look!
Old family saying - we always say things slipped up on us. Weird, I know. Kind of like "tumped over". :)
It will sell. This is just another opportunity for me to learn patience. Which I seem to have to learn over and over.
Luv ... Heard first he was gone, now it's more than he's not gone. So the question is: has he done enough to save his job or this just disinformation?
I don't think he's done enough to save his job, but he's on the verge of it. So I say he loses at UAT, then loses in the tournament and is shown the door.
"Now we've come....to the end of the road...."
Thank you BEMC. oh, and thank you Boyz II Men. :)
nice win last nite.
Jet, I agree with your assesment of the game. Knox stepped up and challenged the MSU big men. He was the difference in the game. Of course the Tay Waller 3-pointer with a second left on the shot clock, off the in-bounds pass as he's falling out of bounds in the corner was the best shot of the game.
if lebo can get the team to make a little run in the sec tournament, then i guess he deserves the chance to open the new arena. just about anyone can win with waller shooting as hot as he is from 3.
if AU is one and done in nville, he needs to go. if they show any signs of life, it may just be prolonging the agony of fans, but i can stomach giving him another chance. i pretty much know what to expect from a lebo coached team now. i would say semis or beating uk or vandy etc in the tourney for lebo to see 2010-11.
all that said, congrats to the seniors and coach lebo for last nights win to close out the dump. the place at least deserved a win at the end.
Off to snag me some chairs! Woo hoo!!!
You all have a fun day!!
Tumped over :) Glad someone else in the world knows that one.
Hi Hotties. I will continue to repeat how great it is to have a job. Even though I'm not sure I've had much of a life outside of work for the last several weeks, it's great to have a job!
So Maaryland beats Duke and the students hit the streets and riot. Must be cabin fever after all that snow. Auburn beats Miss. St. and the students say good by BEMC and Lebo. Well maybe not Lebo according to some. I say it is time for both to go. I was such a staunch Lebo supporter through last year but just can't do it any more.
Nice game last night, we appear to be saying goodbye to The Beav on a winning note.
That said, I'm a little uncomfortable referring to The Beav as a 'she'.
From the previous thread: I was fortunate to have performed in The Barn back in the summer of '81. Watching it burn down live on ESPN 15 years later (shown at the 1:05 mark in this clip) was kind of nostalgic for me.
Fearless- From the field, it looked like the stadium was on fire. Only glanced at it for a few seconds, but it was unbelievable to see.
The barn burner is the night I met the lady you all know as Hot Wife.
I was watching the game at an LSU friend's house the night of the barn burning. I remember turning to him and saying, "I know exactly what's on fire." before anyone said what it was. I also remember that AU should have won that game. Typical crazy LSU game, I guess. We lose some we should win and win some we should lose.
ChocoScott...
The previous greatly outnumbers the latter, at least in my mind.
ElTurbo had a great idea regarding the destruction of The Beav ... do it during a broadcast of ESPN College GameDay without telling them.
Corso would jump in Herbie's lap and go "whoa whoa whoa".
I am willing to give Lebo another year, only if he beats Bama this weekend. Otherwise I want Chris Mooney
I can reasons to keep and fire Lebo. I personally believe he will be here next year. I think he was promised a chance to coach in this new arena. I think he deserves a lot of the credit for the new arena. He really pushed for it.
If anyone knows basketball they can see good things in Lebo and this team. His biggest downfall has been recruiting not his coaching ability. Recruiting to Auburn was almost impossible till now. I think good times are ahead.
Here is the question that Jay Jacobs and the PTB need to ask themselves: do you believe Auburn will be substantially better at the end of the 2010-11 season with Jeff Lebo as coach?
Whether he wins the UAT game shouldn't factor in that decision, although I suspect it could.
I guess I want to know how much coin we're willing to pay for a coach. If we've paid $92 million for an arena, I would hope we're willing to pay $7.5 million for five years for a coach.
Cincy and Luv,
Things "slip up" on me all the time. I didn't realize that that is an unusual expression.
As for Lebo, I think he deserves a year in new house. Who knows, he might surprise us.
My informed opinion is this: Lebo will remain the coach.
He was promised a new arena in two years. It took 6. The idea was that Lebo would be the guy to open said arena.
Knowing the way Jay Jacobs thinks (most of the time), he'll stick to Hal Baird's word and let Lebo coach in the new arena.
Is it smart to stick with an 'idea' even when you realize it's the wrong idea?
G, I agree completely. I had always heard of the "promise". I truly believe that if that arena had been built after 2 yrs that this team would be totally different.
So close to...
Beat drums!
Beat drums!
Anybody know the tiebreaker for the 4th seed from the SEC West if Alabama beats us this weekend?
We'll both finish with the same league record, but we will have split the season series. We'll both also have the same record against Western Division opponents if Bama wins.
Hopefully we beat them and it's a moot point, but was wondering.
As an aside, I'm pretty sure that if we beat Bama on Saturday and Arkansas loses to Ole Miss, then we'll get the three seed out of the West.
CincyT ...with the Barkley smackdown last night. Strong words from a kept woman, LOL. For the record, I agree wholeheartedly.
I never take loudmouth celebrities lightly. If a celebrity is gonna step out and be bold, they better be right with how I think. If celebrities are gonna clutter the media with their opinions, then I'm gonna spew on them for interrupting my entertainment if I disagree with them. Too many stoopid Americans take to heart what their favorite celebs say. Sadly, most celebs are good at something other than having a valid opinion.
WOW!!! ...a couple of weeks ago the "Lebo's Gotta Go" rants were unanimous on the HABOTN. Now ....not so much. Seems lame for sports fans to change their minds so quickly.
SEC Tournament Tie-Breaker Procedures
1. Two-Team Tie: The following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken: A) Won-lost results of head-to-head competition between the two teams. B) Division won-lost record of the two teams (10 games). C) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed in their division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). D) Non-division won-lost record of the two teams (six games). E) Won-lost record of the two teams versus the No. 1 seed in the opposite division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). F) Coin flip by the Commissioner.
2. Three-Team Tie (or more): When three of more teams are tied for a division finish, the following procedure will be used in the following order until the tie is broken. If two teams remain tied after a tiebreaker provision, the two-team tiebreaker formula will be used. A) Total won-lost record of games played among the tied teams (Example: Team A is 3-1, Team B is 2-2 and Team C is 1-3 - - Team A would be seeded highest, Team B second-highest and Team C lowest of the three). B) Division won-lost record of the tied teams (10 games). C) Won-lost record of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed in their division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). D) Non-division won-lost record of the tied teams (six games). E) Won-lost record of the tied teams versus the No. 1 seed in the opposite division (and proceeding through the No. 6 seed, if necessary). F) Draw by the Commissioner.
Hoopie- I've never wavered, Lebo Has to Go, but I don't feel he will.
Outstanding, E-Bro!!!
Clutch performance!!!
back to work
E-bro, I think it's the record of both teams against the western division that would determine it.
Nevermind, Eddie answered it for me.
Hoopie ...
My position on Lebo is unchanged. I'm for a change. I guess I want some hope with the change, too.
I think some are trying to talk themselves into supporting no change because they're beginning to believe he's not leaving.
I'm still holding out hope.
Changing my mind is the least of the things that accounts for my lameness.
Except for 5-6 of the best coaches in the game, what is the best any of you thinks another coach could have done with the talent that Lebo has? I don't believe things would have been a whole lot better with anyone else. You've got to have talent and for many reasons that have been listed on here Auburn hasn't been able to attract it.
Hoopie,
I as well would prefer to make a change at the basketball coach, but far bet it from me to stop you calling people lame on here.
The basketball team's biggest issue was the lack of rebounding. They never did replace Barber's 11 rpg in conference games.
If you will remember last year, this team won a lot of games with scores in the low 70s, high 60s. Vot was a big part of that. His rebounding allowed Auburn to gain or keep 5 or 6 extra posessions a game. That adds up during a game. If Auburn scores on 3 of those and gets 3 extra stops, then that is a 12 point swing in games, and that adds up to a some extra wins.
Auburn women up 32-26 on Florida at the half.
Stu has an excellent point. The difference is inside. Brendan Knox and Johnny Lett have not been able to replicate the Rasheem Barrett/Vot Barber 4/5 spots on the boards and being able to put up 15 pts a game between them. You lose those boards you lose opportunity to extend possessions or take possessions from the other team. Also without the ability to score from the paint it puts extra pressure on your guards.
Also, Reed is not half the player Tez was. We had a bunch of talent last year. We won a bunch of games and probably should have went to the tournament.
Go, Auburn Women!
Vot averaged a touch over 10 boards a game, but that was closer to 11 per in conference games.
He was SO good for us last year.
In comparison, our leading rebounder this year is Hargrove at 7 rpg.
So the last few post kind of supported my point. With talent Lebo can win. Some people more in the know about basketball than any of us have said that he can coach. The talent will start coming and I believe we will see a difference.
I can't believe you guys actually follow Auburn basketball. How's the tennis team look this year?
CH=B,
I agree with you, but I think the frustration of many folks on here is that Lebo is responsible for getting the talent to Auburn, and even though I am a Lebo supporter the talent is not there witht he inside positions.
That said, I still think the nucleus of Kemp Jr., Sullivan, Ross, Gabriel, Malone, has a chance to be pretty good.
Unlike Kentucky, Uconn, Duke, etc, who reload, Auburn does have to rebuild every few years.
CH ... he hasn't shown he can get talent and keep it.
To what extent the AAU situation has handcuffed us is an important issue to be solved.
Do you believe we will be better next year than we are right now? My answer to that question is: not very likely.
I believed we would be better this year, and we haven't been. And that's been with a weak division
100% agree that it is Lebo's responsibility to get the talent. Everyone who is frustrated needs to look at the situation though. He has/had a 40 yr old arena (with very few upgrades), no practice facilities and basically nothing helping him recruit. That is why I believe he should get some more time. Usually I would say 6 yrs is enough, but I understand the situation he took over. As I asked before, how many other coaches (- the 5-6 that are considered the best in the country) could have done better? I also understand the game of basketball (been around it since the 3rd grade) and I have seen some things to be happy about. Most of the frustrating things I've seen have been due to talent. The only negative I see with Lebo is his ability to fire up the fan base.
Cuddly HABOTN,
Maybe. If the young nucleus I have mentioned improves, then maybe.
CH ... I was Lebo's No. 1 defender around here for a long time. DMiller used to wear me out about him.
To answer your question, Coach K, I presume would have made this team more disciplined. Win a bunch more games? I don't know. But I know this: Teams with that many seniors usually do better than 15-15, particularly teams in a weak division.
I've always thought Lebo can X and O. But the streets are littered with X and O guys. At schools other than the 5-6 big dogs you reference, they often end up sitting next to the dynamic head coach who can recruit his butt off.
No one has said this yet, I don't believe, but we benefited greatly from some shots falling that we shouldn't have taken.
Yeah, but you know, yeah.
* My non-sequitur paragraph was in relation to last night's game.
Miachel Navratilova ...
The women are 6-2, while the men are 3-4.
The men's coach should be fired. He has already had a few seasons on the new tennis courts to work the kinks out. And I don't want to hear any crap about how "at least he runs a clean program."
Is he the women's coach too? If so. just fire half of him.
Yeah, well, you know, that's just, like, your opinion, man.
SEC Women's Basketball:
AU 66 UF 58 1:20 remaining
Auburn up 8 with 1:11 left and shooting free throws.
What Hoopie said.
Make that up ten.
Auburn's women have led wire to wire. Great win ladies.
AU up by 12. Smalley in the line. 37 sec left. nice win.
Alli Smalley ....29 points, a career high.
Nice win. Thanks for playing Florida.
On to Kentucky tomorrow.
Fire! Hire! Fire! Hire!
e-bro...
You can't slide a Dude line by un-noticed. Nice.
So what are Auburn's chances of winning the tourney? 1 out of 100?
I'd say more like 1 out a million.
So you're telling me there's a chance. Yes!
ehyou,
You talking men or women?
Yeah ehyou, do you like men or women?
La hora de sustantivo.
I was talking men until michael put me in a quandary.
Michael's nickname within his family is "Quandaryus." I'm surprised you didn't know that, ehyou.
I don't think ehyou has read my authorized biography, Jet. It's titled "Huckleberry Finn". Unfortunately, there is apparently another book with that name, and it usually dominates internet searches when people are looking for my life story. Whoops.
Hello everyone sorry I have been out of touch but I got in trouble by the boos man for being on the internet to much but he is out right now so I am good how are things? Lebo gone yet?
New mini thread UPZ.
