Hey everyone. Auburn been chosen as a host site for the first round of the NCAA Baseball Tournament, which begins next week.

``It's a great accomplishment for these kids and our program," coach John Pawlowski said. ``I'm certainly proud of this. It's a great opportunity to host. It's certainly exciting for our program. It's a great step."

It's the fourth time Auburn has played host.

The last time? 2003.

We don't yet know whom Auburn will be playing. We also don't know which other regional will be paired with Auburn. That information will be learned tomorrow around 11:30 a.m. CDT.

Cincy - did you see any of the hail last week? Check out the last 60 sec of this video

2:44 PM
Blogger Honey said...

Linky not worky.

We saw the hail in Denver. Looked like it had snowed! All the while it was beautiful and sunny just 50 miles south in Colorado springs.

2:45 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

I don't think we'll get any additional information today ... including which site is paired with Auburn.

Auburn hosting a regional!!! Yippee.

Congratulations Cincy! I know you will be glad to have your daughter in Alabama.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

merci, Monsieur.

Cincy - I was too hurried with my linky. It was at least 3 or 4 inches deep on the road. They had the snow plow out to clear the hail off the road. Some of it looked about the size of a tennis ball.

can we expect the "Chad Pierce" rule anytime soon?

THT,
I know. I thought the news footage was from a snow storm earlier in the year! I couldn't believe that was all hail - especially since we had beautiful blue skies! Very strange weather out there.

JG ..thanks for bringing attention to the pitcher abuse is college baseball. It is one of the reasons that most informed-top pitchers go straight to the pros out of HS.

Cory Lucky's HS pitcher teammate went pro straight out of HS because of arm abuse potential.

This is even a problem is HS ball.

Thanks for the latest update to this blog, JGT. At least we know 15 teams AU won't be playing next weekend.

Blogger Miller said...

In response to your previous thread, JGT....
My junior year of High school... travel ball... We had a busy week, and my coach apparently trusted me on the mound more than anyone else.
I pitched 26 innings that week. Yes, in 1 week (4 games... 3 complete and 1 in relief). I did what I was asked, I was too competitive not to. I didn't realize until later what a mistake I had made by allowing my coach to abuse me that way.
I had a tryout with AU at a scouting camp that weekend. After throwing 26 innings in a 5 days span, my velocity was down... way down. Cost me a legit shot at a scholly...
Now, I have elbow tendinitis, and rotator cuff issues...

Advance flight check in is cool. Automatic upgrades are even cooler. I just checked in for my flight tomorrow and found I'd been automatically upgraded to First Class. I'm always on the list for the upgrade but this is only the third time I've been bumped up (last time was to San Francisco last month). The only bad part about it this time is that it's only a 2 hour flight to...Pittsburgh. I get to spend most of my Memorial Day traveling for "the man". Then I get to spend the week in Washington, PA, yeah, I'd never heard of it either until about 2 months ago.

4:27 PM
Blogger Honey said...

Norm,
Not sure which airline you are using. Mr. CIncy used to travel all the time - he always flew Delta, Platinum Priority member. When he first started traveling they were wonderful, but service & courteousness declined rapidly. This past week we flew Southwest and I was so impressed. Of course there is no first class, but they were extremely courteous and helpful. Actually made flying enjoyable. Sorry you have to travel on a holiday, but have fun in First Class.

Washington, PA, home of Washington & Jefferson College. Nice minor league baseball stadium right next to the interstate on west side of town. That's all I know.

Oh, and it's only 30 miles from the BEEEE U tiful city of Pittsburgh.

Geezer attempt at humor.
Very old man in a waiting room of several doctors and is almost over flowing.
He walks up to the receptionist, a very large and very mean spirited person.
She says very loud "so you are here due to impotentcy". embarrassed but gathering his composure he says very loudly "no mam I am here for a sex change and I hope I don't get your surgeon."
Loud applause broke out in room.

Back to Jay G's other topic about the way pitches arms aren't protected in college. Look at Mark Prior and Kerry Wood. Both of them were thrown like crazy at USC and Texas during their college careers and both of them never reached their full potential in the majors due to arm problems.

I'm watching the National Memorial Day Concert on Georgia's PBS. I highly suggest it to the rest of you, check your local PBS station. Excellent stuff, especially in HD.

A bad back kept me from being able to serve but I would have. I know why we have the day off tomorrow. I'm grateful for all those who did serve and gave the ultimate on my behalf. I bet you are too.

Norm,

I sat watching 1,001 Air Force cadets take the oath of office and thought these men and women are the cream of the crop. They could choose any number of successful high paying careers, yet they chose to serve our country. I was very humbled and grateful.

Cincy, according to his mom's FB page, he was admitted to the hospital on May 19th for a lung infection and he was put on antibiotics and released the next day. He attended his sisters graduation the following Friday and his own Saturday. He has lost some weight but he looks GREAT !! The current expectation is that he'll stay near Memphis this fall and winter for treatment and observation, re-sign with Auburn in February and report to the team soon after that.

Welcome montu

Morning Hotties - Happy Memorial Day to you. Take some time today to be thankful for the men and women throughout the last 230+ years who have given all so that we can be free. Free to gripe and moan about our government all we like no matter which party you prefer. Free to do the things millions of people in the world would love to do which we take for granted. We have plenty of faults here but this is still the greatest country in the world. We're blessed by God to have been born here (those of us here that were born here) and to have had the volunteers to pay the ultimate sacrifice for us.

Catching up on past threads. Amen Brother to Jay G's rant on pitchers and pitch counts!!

Both my sons played BB from the time they could walk. Paid off..both were given scholarships to play baseball in college. You guessed it.... pitchers. One even went on to have a stint in the Cubs organization.

They were blessed with coaches with good sense. In our rec league there were rules for pitch counts and in the public schools here in Georgia there are pitch cout rules also. I too am surprised that the NCAA does not have a rule on that one.

By the way I absolutely love baseball but the worst thing to be during baseball season is the pitcher's mother!!!!! It is gut wrenching!

Oh, and the most important thing I'll have to say today is:

Thank you to all the men and women... past, present and future that have served America and preserved our freedom.

Truthfully I really don't know how precious our freedom is because I've always had it. So again I say , thank you very much!

I went for another bike ride this morning but this time across the river. My route takes by the fence of Arlington Cemetery, past the Air Force Memorial and adjacent to the Pentagon Memorial (good concept, poor execution). I crossed on Memorial Bridge and went by the Lincoln and past the Korean War Memorial. I rode up to the WWII Memorial and dismounted.

Like all of the Memorials, there a number of flowers left here and there. I walked up the Pacific theatre side and read off the names of the campaigns and thought about my father. He served on a destroyer and was in many of those campaigns, from Guadacanal to Manila Bay, where it was crippled by a mine.

On my way home, I paused by the fence of Arlington Cemetery and looked at the long rows of white markers, each with it's flag and read a few of the names on the nearer ones and wondered what it had been like for them.
