Auburn goes into the third dimension
Hey everyone. ESPN announced this morning that the Auburn-Clemson game scheduled for will be televised on their new 3D channel.
I don't have ESPN 3D available to me on Dish Network. I'm curious to hear if you all have access to it.
I am not into this 3D fad. Who cares?
Here is the important portion of the release:

Here is the important portion of the release:
AUBURN—Marking the first time ever an Auburn sporting event will be
televised in 3D, the Auburn football game against Clemson on Sept. 18
will air on ESPN 3D. The game will also be broadcast on ESPN with
kickoff slated for 6 p.m CT.
ESPN was the first to announce in the United States an exclusive 3D
network in January 2010 which was the culmination of more than three
years of testing 3D television.
The Auburn-Clemson game will be the third college football game to air
on ESPN 3D this season, and just the fourth football college game ever
to be broadcast in 3D.
Fans interested in viewing the game in 3D, must have ESPN 3D service
and a 3D television.

What's up?
Will Auburn fans want coaches fired if we don't win 9 games this season?
Absolutely. Fire everyone.
Naw probably not. I think Chiz has a way to go yet. I think most fans can understand that.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Auburn fans that want "9 wins or else" should fire themselves if that mark isn't reached in 2010.
Takes time to rebuild.
kodi's hs highlight film had better passes on it than anything i've ever seen him throw at AU. i admit, i was bought into the hype on him as well. cam seems like a different deal. we shall see.
if cam totally bombs or gets injured, i don't think we see much drop off with caudle or trotter. the passing game may actually improve. i base this on the limited amount of passing i saw from cam on aday and what i saw from the other two. reviews from wrs and others have been glowing about cam.
Heck no. Chizik's grace period can't be over just yet. He's got this team on the right track and recruiting is going just grand. Patience. And like chizik says, we shouldn't measure this team by wins and losses, but 8 ain't it. Or something like that.
Having said that, 9 wins are certainly possible, I don't think that's a crazy goal. I don't think the team feels that way either. That's the important part.
write chizco threatening letters if they do not win the sec.
I thought Trotter looked pretty good on A-Day. I would trust him with the keys.
I am more in favor of firing coaches when the team is obviously not prepared, which is what we saw early in 2008. I don't favor firing coaches in the middle of the season, but when you see so many mistakes made, primarily on offense, you don't blame the players, you blame the coaches. Whether to fire a coach, to me, doesn't come down to wins and loses. It all comes down to having the team prepared. If we lose to good teams, I understand. When we lose to a bad team because of mistakes, you have to look at the coaches, and yes, I count the 3-2 MSU game as a loss. It is embarrassing to claim a win for that ridiculous performance.
I don't think the QB play is as important as people are making it out to be. We had mediocre play in most of the SEC games last year, and I can't see any of the current guys being worse. With a more experienced O-line and a more favorable schedule...I think we'll be alright no matter who is under center.
The 3-2 is the worst game I've ever watched. Worse than 36-0. Worse than any of the UGA beat downs. It was absolute torture.
Seanzie, QB play in terms of great plays isn't crucial, but it is mistakes that kill you at QB. For example, there were two or three games Brandon Cox played where we had absolutely no chance to win because Cox had a horrible day. Give me a QB that doesn't make mistakes and is very average passing and I am fine.
You're right, Steve. I phrased it the wrong way, we don't need to have stellar, all-world play from the QB to be any good.
being at the 3-2 was excruciating and hilarious at the same time. one of my favorite games i've ever been to for the historical/comic significance. the look on the faces of the msu fans after was priceless. the 5 hour bus ride back to mobile was what sucked the most. we all knew at that point something wasn't right and had the whole ride back to stew on it.
QB talk on a Friday afternoon.
If Cam busts, put Trotter in. Trotter's got 2 years left and if Cam busts that will cost us 2 wins anyway.
Hoopie's out for the weekend. We're headed to Lake Lanier with friends.
Stay out of the heat and have a good weekend.
how about greg mcelroy?
What about Greg McElroy?
SFC, "Cam is big and can run BS". Why is that bs? Also why can't you just admit that Kodi is not a "great" runner. He isn't even a good runner. He is all around avg at everything and that makes him a good athlete.
he fits sfc's qb description perfectly.
McElroy is a good example of an okay QB that didn't cost his team games. I don't think of him as spectacular, although he did look good in the SECCG. He just isn't a great QB.
Yes, Kodi is a great runner and has proven that.
The Cam is big and can run stuff is BS because that doesn't make for a good quarterback. We probably have at least a dozen players on the team, including Kodi, that can run better than Cam. It doesn't make them a great QB.
What on earth are you talking about. Kodi is not a great runner and no way in hell he is better at running than Cam. What are you smoking? Puff Puff pass my friend.
Steve McNair fits your description there SFC and he did ok.
Sorry, but I am not hear to tutor you. If you don't get it, don't bring your problems up to me dope head.
I mean have you been watching any games lately. I'm not saying your wrong because I think so, but because everyone thinks so.
Certainly not the best runner by any stretch, but he made it happen. Cam might be in the same mold. Big guy, not the best wheels, but can extend the play, throw well vertically.
Kodi is a "great" runner? Aren't we throwing around the word "great" a little lightly here, Stevo?
with a great rb or two and a road grater ol, you could put a total chump at qb and win a lot of games. maybe not championships, but a lot of games.
What is there to get? Does anyone get your Kodi love fest?
McNair was an excellent passer and runner. The biggest thing that a QB needs is decision making ability. Passing ability comes second. Running ability is third. So to get all excited about running ability is hilarious.
Michael you don't get it you dope head.
throw in a great d and you will win championships. see jay barker. chump with a ring.
If Kodi had the support of the PTB, he would be a great runner.
McNair was not a "great passer." Having seen the guy in person MANY times, he was an average passer. Especially on timing routes and short drops. Those seasons with Norm Chow were disastrous. He had his best success when they brought in Heimerdinger who is a vertical passing/play action guy. Sound familiar? Also, see Vince Young. Not the best runner, but he knows how to make it work getting to the edge.
The reason a lot of people are excited about Cam's running ability are because this offense needs that and its been lacking. I do agree that decision making comes 1st. In this day and age with DE's running 4.6 40's and LB's running 4.4 40's you need a QB that can scramble out of trouble.
SCott, if Kodi had a jet pack he would be a great runner.
If he didn't do the Kodi Burns chicken dance behind the LOS he'd be a better runner.
SFC, not trying to piss you off so don't take it that way.
michael, he is a great runner. At times he has made incredible runs. One I can remember was in the UT game. It was astounding. But the thing is, if you have a QB that is a great runner, and the defense knows he is going to run, and he is not a threat to pass, any decent defense will stop him cold.
The best example of this was the MSU game in 2007, not the 3-2 game. It was the game were Cox through a couple of interceptions early and was pulled in favor of Kodi. During the first half Kodi made some incredible runs. He also hit on a very long pass, over 50 yards if I am not mistaken. But by the second half MSU knew he wasn't a throwing threat. They loaded up to stop the run and did. When I saw that they were apparently going with Kodi the rest of the game, I knew we had lost. Yea, Cox came in and lead us to a drive that nearly one the game but it was too late. But Kodi did demonstrate great running ability that game.
Additionally, there was the Peach bowl against Clempson. Kodi did an excellent job of running occasionally as a complement to Cox passing. It was similar to the way that Mullen used the two MSU QBs last season.
Kodi is definitely a great runner and athlete. He isn't the fastest, but he is quick. The thing with him was mainly passing ability and to a little lesser degree decision making.
KB runs a mean wildcat. i have no clue what you guys are talking about.
I assume everyone was able to notice that my sarcasm button was on through all the dope smoke.
He's not so good that you sub him in the middle of successful drive just for him to do the Kodi dance for a loss of 2.
I understand, CHB. But I do like to temper expectations of high profile players who people assume will be great based upon little actual proof.
There are concerns with Cam's passing ability and he was noted as having poor accuracy at Florida. I didn't see enough myself to really judge.
As for Blinn college, I did watch the championship game and my take was he made good decisions, although his passing technique occasionally looked bad. I am no expert, but that is reason for concern. And yes, there have been QBs with bad technique that were still great QBs. It just isn't common. Bad technique usually is why you see inconsistency.
Kodi was a disaster a large part of last season in the wildcat. He did have some good games early, but later on it was terrible. We were one of the worst teams in the SEC in short yardage last season. I can't remember us ever being ranked so low.
fox news: caddyshack 30th anniversary
gunga gunga la gunga.
By the way, some of my concern with Cam is because of when they names him the starter. I was surprised they waited a week after spring practice. My guess, and it is only a guess, is that his passing ability was not as good as some of the other candidates, but Malzahn went with him based upon overall ability and experience.
Gosh, it reeks in here.
Chip, there was a good article in SI this week about the Caddyshack cast.
If Kodi were a great runner, shouldn't he have been as successful as Ben Tate at running the ball?
I also thought we saw selfish play out of Kodi in the wildcat. I think he would have done much better if he handed the ball off more frequently. If I knew he wasn't going to hand it off, I am pretty sure the other teams did too.
All he needs to do is get the ball with arms length of Darvin. He will make it happen. Combine a couple of swings and reverses to T-zach and like Omac and Fannin do their thing. It should be a joy to watch.
I forgot about Lutz. He'll do some good things too.
Kodi is a different type of player than Tate. His advantage is more his quickness, than his power or speed. Quickness is where I always thought Tate came up a bit short, but he made it for it with his power and speed. If you are asking if Kodi was a better power back than Tate, no he wasn't. If you are asking could Kodi turn nothing into something more often than Tate, I would say the answer is yes.
So, Thigpen says that Craig Sanders is going to change the way AU plays defense. Not sure what that means. He's a beast for sure. Supposedly was kicked out of the weight room for working out too much.
Ben Tate's defining moment, knocking Eric Berry about like a ragdoll.
What's all this 9 win crap. We will be 11-0 riding the bus to Terd Town.
The kicked out of the weight room is hilarious. I can't wait to see him.
I read long ago that one of the problems with Brad Lester was actually he worked out too much. He was brought up to always do more than the next guy and sometimes he took it too extremes and his body couldn't handle it.
Phred has officially escalated this discussion.
Then I would say the guy that had the 5.2 yd/carry average did better than the guy with the 3.1 average. But somehow I have a feeling your going to tell me that 5.2 isn't as good as 3.1
Tate was is a great back. He was consistent and always ready to play. We have had better, but we haven't had many as durable as Tate turned out to be.

I am headed to the lake to work on my beer drinking technique. I think my fundamentals are pretty good, but I can always improve. I may not be a great beer drinker, but I can drink an astounding (SFC word) amount for an average sized guy, and I've had some incredible shots into the recycle bin, even when everyone knows I'm going to throw my beer can.
True dat
Sounds like my kind of party, Scott. Have fun.
Wishing all HOTTIES a great weekend! Fall practice next week! Looking forward to talking about all that stuff that we're not allowed to see.
ChocoScott...
I challenge you to a beer duel.
how does a beer duel work?
I know how a beer dual works. Done that a couple times.
i've dueled against the beer but never another person. the beer always beats me.
Battling beer in a beer duel is like playing tennis with a wall...it's only a matter of time.
Has Auburn stated how much access the folks like Mr Tate will have during the summer/fall practices? (I assume it will be like Spring with 15 minutes here and there?)
I just read the Shane article from the previous page. It wasn't a complete waste of time, I laughed at loud at least 3 times.
Baldy...
No official release about it, but yeah, it'll be the same.
the article i read earlier said that the practices were closed again. i anticipate the same limitations again this year. what did he get, maybe 10 minutes last year?
jgt will be hiding in a tackling dummy to bring HABOTN the inside scoop on how practice is going. i have total faith in him.
Another way to describe my view of Kodi is that he was more likely than most to turn a busted play into positive yardage running the ball, while he was less likely than most to execute a called play correctly.
As for the 5 versus 3 thing, it is pretty much meaningless because of the different circumstances.
Fannin had a big yards per carry than Tate last year, so obviously he was the better runningback.
Brent Fullwood had a higher yards per carry than Bo Jackson in Bo's final college season, so obviously Fullwood was the better back.
Making those kind of blanket comparisons are silly.
i'd have more respect for JG if he bypassed the holding of the dummy and went straight to being sewn inside one. that way he could video from inside the dummy and he could tell us firsthand who the best hitters are. come on JG, step it up bro!
Last year, I think it was the first 20 minutes of practice that was open to the media, so there was thorough documentation of stretching exercises.
We will get some substance. There were red flags of trouble before the 2008 season even started. You could see it in both coach and player interviews. Last season it was pretty quiet and you got the feeling everyone was on the same page.
Why are they worried about hiding everything? Don't they remember AU runs a high school offense anyway and everybody already has us figured out anyway, so why all the secrecy?! (Tongue is firmly in cheek).
Phred - I don't know if we'll be 11-0 going into turd town (we could be), but I do know we'll have one more win coming out than we had going in.
GET SOME!!!
All you Larissa Riquelme fans may want to do a little egotastic google search for today.
Just sayin'.
gotta make sure those hammies are warmed up.
speaking of, i need a little stretching myself.
FUTBOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
hey, the world cup wasn't all bad, huh? ha.
11-0 is possible, although I wouldn't call it likely. There are just too many variables, but some may know more than I. I don't follow all of our opponents, so it is hard to say how good someone like LSU, Arkansas, or South Carolina will be. All I can do is guess based upon if we are better or worse and assume the opponents will be on average about the same.
I did hear someone predict 14-0 on ITAT, which really blows my mind. I am just not smart enough to predict the outcome of games against unknown opponents.
8 wins this season would be disappointing, but I wouldn't call it reason for concern. If we win 7 or less, I am concerned. I think we should be better than that. I would be very satisfied with 9 wins, and ecstatic for any more than that.
In the battle of Man vs Beer, Beer won.
Scott, I am right behind you. Heading up to Smith lake in about an hour. Enjoy the weekend everyone and hope to talk to you on Sunday evening.
SFC, for someone I don't know I do admire you because no matter if everyone disagrees with you, you still hold your ground. War Eagle.
Take care CHB, and thanks for the discussion. It is all mostly opinion and subjective anyways. War Eagle!!!
By the way, there has been times I was flat out wrong about some historical stuff. Rather than blame in on senility, I prefer to think of it as creative thinking.
Have a great weekend everyone.
I have a real dilemma tonight. I want the Braves to win, but I also want the Reds to stay atop their division. They are 0.5 games ahead of the Cardinals. So I guess my best case scenario is for the Braves to win, and the Cards to lose. Sorry dmiller. L)
Holy Egotastic, Batman!
Thanks Ebro, you're alright.
Apparently some are comparing Masoli with Newton. That isn't a fair comparison. Newton did make several mistakes. He bought a stolen laptop and he threw it out his window. He deserved to be punished for that.
As for Masoli, I did considerable reading on his situation and some stories say he didn't steal anything but was just around the wrong people. The marijuana may have also been someone else's.
But even if that is true, Masoli made the mistake of repeatedly lying to attempt to get himself out of trouble. That includes lying to his coach.
I would be willing to give a kid a break if he came to the coach and said, look, this is what I did, I am sorry, I made a mistake. When he comes to the coach and lies to the coach he might as well being saying please kick me off the team, coach.

i just had to check closely at "his" do rag to make sure it didn't have an "a" on it. that would have been perfect.
one of our friends in san fran sent it to my wife this morning. apparently, they have already gone national.
We have been throwing out predictions of how we will do this season. I am curious about what your predictions were last season. I think I predicted 7, maybe 8 wins last year, although the season didn't ended up like I expected. I thought we would beat Arkansas and Kentucky. I thought we would lose to West Virginia and Tennessee. So it was right for the wrong reasons.
I think I said 8-9. I thought we would take WVU.
I'll say 9 or better this year. I'll be disappointed if we don't improve on 8.

Ok Steve, I'll take the guy with 1300+ yds over the guy with 175 yards as the better runner.
I was lookin at Kodi's passin not his rushing in the deleted comment
I also wasn't making a blanket comparison, but rather a specific comparison between Ben and Kodi. And I do like Kodi, I just don't see him as a better runner than Ben.
I'll also take Bo's 1700+ yds and Heisman trophy over Brent's 690+. I just figured you wouldnot allow the yardage thing to be used because of "circumstances" so I went with yds/game
Yes I know I'm running on too much about this, but Steve screwed my ride home with talk of blanket comparisons.
To go with total yards isn't exactly realistic. Comparing football players at different positions used in different situations isn't realistic.
I don't understand why Glaus is still batting clean up for the Braves.
I guess why I liked last season so much wasn't exactly the record. In general we played well and were competitive in almost all the games. Only the Arkansas game wasn't that close.
Same ole, same ole. Braves have stranded 3 runners in the first 2 innings - 2 in scoring position.
So if you can't compare different players at different positions being used in different situations how can you say that he's a better runner? By the "hey watch that guy" moments?
My bad, McCann is cleanup, Glaus is 5th. That's better.
Nats are up 3-0 over the Phils in the top of the 4th just in case anyone here cares.
I care because I need the Phillies to lose :)
What up?
I see we got a commitment from some LB in Ohio today...That makes 57 LB's on our roster.
Hey FSJ,
We'll trade you a PB&J sandwich and the bookcase Tony Franklin left behind for a couple linebackers.
Hey Faker,
Congrats on the ohioan.
I'm really liking my iPhone.
I'm too lazy to check if this has already been posted.
NCAA interviews 2 Clempson players
We'll even throw in a couple of Little Debbies to keep the midget happy.
IPhone is nice, iPad has a nicer keyboard. I'm not missing my laptop at all.
There were some reports a lot of players were involved, but I've only heard of 4 or 5 interviewed.
Nats have made it 5-0 over the Phils in the top of the 6th.
This latest NCAA investigation seems like it could possibly cause some players not to be available at the start of the season. If I am a coach of a player that could be ruled ineligible, do I play him?
Steve,
I would think that if the player is already being investigated, and the NCAA allows him to start the season, the team would face no penalty if the player is later ruled ineligible.
You may be right, but I haven't heard that. You make a good point, though. If the school says, hey, NCAA, is he eligible, then they should be okay. But I am sure teams that have had to vacate victories, such as Bama or USC, didn't know the guy would be rules ineligible later.
The NCAA's means to enforcing rules has always been kind of awkward with them ending up punishing innocent people along the way.
Besides, it seems like NCAA decisions don't happen until 3 or 4 years after the problem. Now if it were a clearinghouse problem...
This is the first year in a while we didn't have a player waiting on the clearinghouse at this point. This incoming recruiting class is amazing in a lot of ways.
It might be interesting to see how the percentage of this class reporting compares to other top 10 recruiting classes.
Nats now up 7-1 and still batting in the 7th.
Nova, I would be interested in that too, but in general, you do good if you get 20 of 25 signees who actually make it to fall practice. There has been several times I think we end up with around 17.
It is a good night for TV with Man, Woman, Wild followed by Dual Survival. I love those type shows, particularly Dual Survival. Putting a hippie and redneck out in the wilderness and asking them to survive together is a hoot.

Words that start with a silent "p" are what's wrong with the world today.
well, that and the fact that we've legislated sin into non-existence.
MeEh, sin has never depended on legislation. It is what it is.
The lack of Baskin-Robbins in every town and at every interstate exit is what's wrong with our country. You can take that to the bank.
The teller just gave me a very weird look.
well, duh. Everybody knows they don't have waffle cones at the bank.
udder psilence here.
I guess that's ok. If there's one thing I don't like, it's noisy cow teats.

you're absolutely right. So where is Lucy Lawless?
She's on Parks and Recreation occasionally these days. So she's not dead at least.
too bad she's not at the Orange County Landfill. That's where I'm headed.
You hang out in the OC often?
only when I'm not at work, or downstairs watching Penguins hockey.
How about those Penguins?!

Are they, though?
No, they aren't. I don't know what I was thinking.
