Yes, it's that time again

THT has alerted me to the fact you all are approaching 5,000 posts, which means it's time for a new thread. It would be my pleasure to create said new thread. Before I leave, however, I'd like to provide you a picture of the always-lovely Mariska Hargitay.
Have a nice day.

That UTC-Jacksonville State game being played in Montgomery doesn't make a lot of sense to me.

There a big JSU alum network in the Gump that's been clamoring for it or something?

3:12 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Maybe JSU stadium doesn't have a tv broadcast booth?

Just kidding Gamecock fans. Just kidding.

They probably some place bigger to hold the dozens and dozens of fans.

Too bad. Would've been nice to showcase an FCS game at an on campus site. They've played some great games against each other the last few years, both in regular season and playoffs.

7:51 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I bet Jet pulled some strings to get it moved to the Gump. Despite Norm's lifelong ambition, Jet still runs the show in that neighborhood.

8:19 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Yeah, but I bet Norm still does a song and dance in the show.

What a great halftime show. But how do they keep people in the stands for the second half?

Re: our latest committment...

Martin returned to Austin during the offseason after playing his junior year at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla. He ran for 372 yards and four touchdowns in limited time at IMG.

injured or not good enough to start?

10:31 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Can't figure that out, THT. No one explains his small numbers last year. He avg over 7 yards per carry, and caught for 300+ as well. Can't find a mention anywhere of him being injured. Wouldn't surprise me if IMG has more talent than need, though.

Sounds like he'll graduate early. So that's nice.

Hear about the Clint retiring, THT?

11:10 AM
Blogger michael said...

Looks like he got the most carries of any RB on the team (Mond was QB, a freshman at aTm now)

http://www.maxpreps.com/high-schools/img-academy-ascenders-(bradenton,fl)/football-fall-16/stats.htm#

IMG is one of those all-star type programs, so there is a lot of sharing of the ball that has to happen I imagine.

Word on the interwebs is that there is a scandal behind the retirement. Could get ugly.

But, hey, at least we have football to distract us!

I've been waiting to hear the details ever since his son resigned.

11:46 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

"They" say his son was pursuing the players in an inappropriate manner...

Happened once and "corrected." Happened again and he's got gone. Then the covering up of the first one got Clint.

Allegedly reportedly.

12:07 PM

I'm curious what would have been the appropriate manner of pursuit. Not for personal use or anything, just curiosity.

I hope our receivers have no drops next weekend.

What's y'all's take on not playing Malik W at QB this past weekend? With Grit Laser still suspended this week, I'd have thought getting the backup some real game snaps might be helpful in case of emergency. Or is Devan actually ahead of Malik on the depth chart?

10:07 AM
Blogger michael said...

It definitely wasn't a burn-your-redshirt situation against Ga Southern. Against Clemson, if Stidham goes down and the game isn't out of hand and assuming Grit Laser is still suspended, I think Malik would see the field.

10:51 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'd rather Malik not see the field for the very first time in Clemson, SC, or any away game. I'm not sure what the RS rules are. If you only play in the first 3 games, do you have to get injured to be granted a redshirt? I'm sure he could stub his toe.

Clemson rushes for less than 100 yds.

If weather.com's data for yesterday is correct, we should be overwhelmingly awesome this year, 12-2 or maybe even 14-1. I'd feel better offering 15-0 if the LSU game was in Auburn.

4:13 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Of course, weather.com's data may be irrelevant. I think the original research was done at accuweather.com, and their reported high on 9/4 was 1 degree above the threshold. So don't discount bubbs's prediction just yet.

7:37 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

When watching aTm implode Sunday night, I was wondering why Kevin Sumlin didn't challenge the no call on unsportsmanlike conduct for Josh Rosen removing his helmet on the field. I assumed it could not be challenged, but I don't see any reason why not. If it could be challenged, Sumlin and or somebody on his staff should be ashamed of themselves for the missed opportunity. It was plain as day on the replay. Those 15 yards could have been very beneficial to aTm on the ensuing kickoff/possession. Ok, Sumlin and his entire staff should be ashamed of themselves regardless.

8:53 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Sumlin couldn't challenge the non-call. However, the replay official could (and should) have made the call:

Limitations on Reviewable Plays
ARTICLE 7. No other plays or officiating decisions are reviewable. However,
the replay official may correct egregious errors, including those involving the
game clock, whether or not a play is reviewable. This excludes fouls that are
not specifically reviewable

If a penalty is 15 yards, that is pretty strong evidence that it is egregious.

I don't think it was food poisoning. We didn't eat anything that the kids didn't, and the timing was a little off. I got sick first then the wife. Fortunately, I didn't get sick until a little bit after a race I had on Monday. That could have been real bad...

Personally, I'll take a stomach bug over a week long head cold any day. Get it over with.

I guess that's why you eat them every night with your steak. I'll take mashed taters with my steak, please. And maybe some asparagus broiled in buttah.

And some nice sauteed onions while you're at it.

ewwwwwwwwwwwwwwww

2.0 brought a sammich from some unknown location home the other night. It reeked of onions. I got out of the kitchen immediately.

I wonder if THT is part vampire. Works odd hours of the night. Can't be around onions (cousin of the garlic). Really into maps.

Have you searched your family tree, THT?

I'm pretty sure I'm 1/16th Cherokee. I am greatx5 grandson of Jacob Greene, brother of Nathanael (the dude that won the Revolutionary War without winning a single battle). That is the entire extent of my arboreal knowledge. I don't know of any ancestors from Transylvania.

10:31 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Well, that makes sense, because Vlad was from Wallachia, not Transylvania.

I used to live in Wachovia, but that's a whole different place.

Yeah, like that's a real place.

These Maps are from the 18th century. When exactly DID you live in Wachovia, THT?

Judging by this time frame, I'm starting to think bubbs is right about you being a vampire.

Hey THT is Auburn gonna win this weekend?

THT clearly thinks this game is in the bag for Clemson.

well I certainly hope so. I've only known in advance the outcome of 3 AU games in my entire life. As of today, this is not the 4th.

major league yard work today. Not my favorite cup of tea.

Carry on

Worse weather than this for yard work at least.

I'll do minor league yard work, but almost never get called up to the big leagues. I'm fine with that.

Mr. Cincy and I put together a storage building for Kathryn and Aaron yesterday. It had 80 pages of instructions! Took us 10 hours of nonstop work. My body is rebelling today. Think I will stay in my pjs and watch football all day.

Blogger THT said...

MrsTHT and I drove over to W-S to have dinner with a bunch of people, most of whom I didn't know, so we didn't get to watch the game. (The fact that I would drive several hours and dine with people, even friends, during an AU football game may provide some level of insight into how I thought things might turn out tonight.) Looks like Accuweather and Accububbs are pretty good at predicting AU football seasons.

10:54 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Things are not looking good for us. Right now, I can definitely see us going 6-6. The defense is really good, but the offense ... is offensive.

As always, the MSU game will be a litmus test of how the rest of the season will go. So far, things are not trending well. Gus should be very concerned about his job. What makes everything that much more interesting is that JJ should also be concerned about his job. Do you have a dead man walking choose your next coarch, or a brand new one? Perhaps they let Gus stay one more year just to settle the AD situation?

Lot of story lines waiting to play out.

9:53 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

i.e. you definitely see us winning both MS games at home and winning at MO? We'll need a whole new offense to pull that off.

I really had high hopes for Saturday night. Not high confidence, but lots of hope. Now I have neither :(

Why do I have to love Auburn so much? It hurts.

11:06 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Right there with you, THT.

Told an office mate who was making a bet against AU, "I think you're making the right bet, but as a fan, I hope you lose your money."

Was wrong about the D so far, though. I thought it might be the weaker unit. Right now, there's no part of the O that has me optimistic. None of the personnel groups are playing well on that side of the ball. This song is getting real familiar...

11:16 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

MrsTHT wants an immediate hire of Les Miles or even Tubs. I have no foundation upon which to argue against that.

11:21 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Can't say we'd be in worse shape.

I feel like we might be talking a lot about other coaches through out the season. Who do we go for? Who would be a solid hire?

JJ will probably go for Houston Nutt.

11:24 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

or Hugh Freeze

11:34 AM
Blogger michael said...

This is the exact sort of team Les Miles trotted out for 10 years at LSU. So if we want to keep doing that for a few more years, then we should definitely snag him. Press conferences would be a lot better, that's for sure.

11:40 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Penn State coach James Franklin after a win over Pitt on Saturday:
"I know last year beating us for them was like the Super Bowl," said Franklin during the post-game press conference, referencing Pitt's 42-39 win over the Nittany Lions in 2016. "This was just like beating Akron for us."

ouch

11:43 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't think we could get Franklin, but I'd like the hire.

11:46 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I was a fan of Turner Gill in 2008. After he leads Liberty to their best record in forever this year (he's averaged 7-5 in five seasons there), I may be in for some delayed gratification in Dec 2017. Which wouldn't be very gratifying.

12:29 PM
Blogger michael said...

It doesn't matter who the coach is. There are two good coaches in college football, and everyone else is a bunch of schmoes. It's all luck, man. That's the only way to make sense of things.

12:59 PM
Blogger michael said...

How does Bob Stoops go to Oklahoma as a defensive expert and end up putting together about 15 years of great offense/average defense? How does an offensive guy like Les Miles go to LSU and end up putting together 10 years of elite defense and atrocious offense? How does Gene Chizik make his name as a defensive guru and then put together five years of Iowa St/Auburn with just absolutely clueless defenses? How does Gus Malzahn come to Auburn and end up 4 years later with a lights out defense and a conference average offense? Because it's all meaningless, dudes. Errybody getting paid 5 million a year for Jimmy's and Joe's and luck.

1:03 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Then we should hire outside of college football. I say throw some money at Wally Buono. I bet he'd be great, but even if not, we could have a lot of fun with his name.

1:05 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Of course, we might see a spike in our illegal motion penalties.

1:08 PM
Blogger michael said...

I'm all in on Wally Buono. Might as well try something different.

2:43 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I'm really disappointed our defense hasn't done more. They've scored 0 points for us thus far. As Tracy Rocker said after the 7-6 loss in BTR in '88, "We (the defense) didn't do our job."

3:40 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

You're not wrong. The winning programs do well in scoring defense.

I blame Norm.

4:10 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

With the next post, we can blame Norm even more.
