Yes, it's that time again

THT has alerted me to the fact you all are approaching 5,000 posts, which means it's time for a new thread. It would be my pleasure to create said new thread. Before I leave, however, I'd like to provide you a picture of the always-lovely Mariska Hargitay.
Have a nice day.

I went to bed last night with forecasters saying Irma was headed into NW TN. I wake up this morning and find Irma in the middle of Mississippi. Must have been the same forecasters that were predicting AU could give ua-t a challenge this year.

9:17 AM
Blogger michael said...

Irma came through Huntsville and was a big sissy. They still canceled school and closed the arsenal, though. Lightweights.

10:24 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

About 3 days ago there was one forecast that showed Irma going towards Arkansas, while all others at that time showed it going to east TN then turning NE or E. I'm guessing that's the same one that said 6-6 back in August. Was that yours, bubbs?

I don't think I would call it "mine," but it was the forecast I was going with.

We lost by one possession in a hostile environment against a playoff contender. I'm amazed we aren't giving Gus an extension this week.

10:49 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't think they understand the meaning of "disappointing." I mean, some of those teams didn't really have that much hype pre-season. People were talking about AU being a CFP team, and we're headed straight for the bowl team bubble.

The hot seat... Already had a couple SEC coaches named? Waiting for Gus to lose against MSU?

Once we lose to Stite... the ship has sailed. Gus will need to start looking through the wanted ads. By the way, how long before he comes back to Auburn to live? He's still pretty young as a coach.

10:51 AM
Blogger michael said...

I think we'll end up with a season about like last season. Clemson was the best d line/d back combo we'll face all season. I don't think our offense will be this embarrassed again until Alabama.

I think we'll have an 8 or 9 win season when it's all said and done. Maybe even 10. People might even forget how miserable the Clemson game was just like last year. That is, until we have similarly miserable games later in the season.

11:02 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Let's see how MSU plays this weekend. If they pull off the upset, I think we should be very concerned. The MSU game is another barometer to our seasons. Lose to them and 8-9 wins is usually off the table. We still have LSU, uga and bammer. By my counting that gives us a best case scenario of 7-5. And Gus will be gone.

On the flip side, if we beat MSU the WORST case scenario is 8-4. But I still think Gus has to beat uga or bammer to keep his job.

My question is, who do you get to replace him? I was a Turner Gill fan, too. Clearly, I don't know how to pick a coach.

For the campfire this week, our only option is SmurfTurf, which hurts the eyes. I hate watching games on that field, even though blue is my favorite color.
New Mexico at Boise State. Yes, the Lowly Lobos are on TV. Whoever did the Thursday night scheduling for ESPN this season should have already been fired. If not, they should certainly be on the hot seat.

I was an anyone-but-Chizik fan back in '08. But Chiz pretty quickly brought in Gus Malzahn, an offensive mastermind, so I was happy with the hire after that.

11:27 AM
Blogger michael said...

What's it like to be Gus Malzahn now? From 2007 to August 2015, you were hailed all around college football as an offensive genius. Now we are starting year three of offensive ineptitude, save a short respite in 2016 when you famously gave up playcalling duties for a few games. What's going through his head? Wonder if he's in doubt or denial or what.

11:32 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

I've faxed him a questionnaire. He should have it filled out soon and mailed back. i'll let you know what he says.

Chip moving to the box to call plays. Not a good sign. Whenever you have a move from filed to box or vice versa = grasping at straws. They don't know why the offense isn't working.

11:40 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

michael @11:27

You baited me into wasting 15 minutes reading the "morning after" thread in Dec '08.

bubbs, I think the move is as much getting Hand on the field and in their faces as it is getting Chip a different view.

11:53 AM
Blogger michael said...

I think switching up booth coaches will pretty much fix everything.

What was the most enlightening thing you read back in '08, THT? I think that's about as hopeless as Auburn fans have ever been since I've been following, even more hopeless than we were in 2012.

Auburn Mercer football series
11 games between 1896 and 1922
AU leads the series 11-0
6 games in Auburn
4 games in Macon
1 game in Columbus
Cumulative score AU 506, Mercer 11
Avg score: AU 46, Mercer 1
Largest margin: 92-0 (1916)

I'll be upset if Mercer's avg score increases even by the tiniest amount.

Alex, do you want me to move? No offense, but Feng delivered better substance.

If anyone doubts that the plethora of college football games on TV has had a detrimental effect on attendance at games, I enter into evidence Peru State College at Missouri Valley College. On the visitors side of the stadium (using the broadest possible definition of that term), the five rows of bleachers that extend between the 35 yard lines are no more than half full. It's only a 3 hour drive for them. I wonder if it resulted in a local tv blackout. No problem for the folks who live in the houses across the street from the stadium. They can just look out their living room window.

AU (why on earth are we still ranked?) favored by 18.5 vs Missouri. I know it's Mizzou, but can our offense hold on to the ball long enough to score 18.5 points? I don't gamble, and even if I did, I'd have to pass on this one since I could never put money on the other team to cover the spread against my beloved Tigers. I'll go with a reversal of the 1973 Sun Bowl score and predict Real Tigers 34, Faux Tigers 17. (AU doesn't repeat the 5 TOs they had in that Sun Bowl... and last week... but still give it way enough to avoid covering the spread)

11:18 AM

1:15 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I don't gamble, but I like looking at the lines etc.

An interesting game to watch with be MSU/UGA. UGA is favored by 6. I think stite is good, but I don't know that they're as good as some people think. Also hoping LSU continues a downward spiral. Wait. Do I hope we beat LSU?

This is that awkward time when you're pretty sure you need to move on from your head coarch, but watching a train wreck season is no fun. The only solution is for Gus to pull off a natty.

1:24 PM

4:52 PM
Blogger michael said...

Well i have a high arch. And back when I got to Huntsville in 2007, I went about 8 months where I didn't run a single time. I think my whole body atrophied a bit that year.

Then I decided to run on a treadmill and get in shape, and the bottoms of my feet did not like that, not one little bit. I had plantar fasciitis super bad for all of 2008. Tried all the tricks, saw two doctors, blah blah blah. It eventually got better, but I've still had pain off and on ever since then.

Now I'm actually pretty active. I play bball a couple of times a week and do leg exercises on some other days and stuff, all wearing the $300 foot-molded orthotic inserts for arch support. But I played bball with my daughter in the driveway last weekend without wearing those shoes, which proved unwise. I played bball at the gym twice this week, and I almost quit both times because my left foot hurt so bad. I'm back to sleeping in the annoying sleep sock for the first time in about 8 years.

And I'll probably be puking tomorrow. Great! Grand! Yippy!

MrsTHT did arrive home with fever and absolutely awful cough and went straight to bed. I slept in the basement, not because I was afraid I'd catch it (there is no doubt that I will given the person here at the Buy More satellite office hacking up infection all over the place) but because I wanted her to sleep through the night without having to listen to my ALLEGED snoring. Thanks to her sister's snoring and coughing, MrsTHT had a total of 32 hours sleep over the previous 8 nights. Speaking of snoring, that game last night wasn't as bad a snoozer as I expected despite the lopsided score. However, the campfire was a yawner.

I have no idea what the outcome will be in JHS on Saturday night. If we play like we did against Missouri, MSU will get stomped. That would make me happy.

It's too bad the mystery person(s) wasn't involved in the production of Monk.

So much for having a basketball program.

Wellp, the FBI and black helicopters finally got us I guess.

my partner just emailed a very generic message referencing that, no names provided. I guess y'all are going to make me go find it

Chuck Person is apparently dirty. Accepted money to steer Austin Wiley toward an agent.

https://www.cbssports.com/college-basketball/news/four-college-basketball-assistant-coaches-hit-with-federal-fraud-corruption-charges/

There is a more detailed document on accusations against Person floating on Twitter, but I haven't spent the time to read it yet.

Blogger E-Bro said...

Did we ever really have a basketball program in the first place?

10:15 AM

E-Bro always looking on the bright side. Can't lose what you never had!

we're almost there! Not sure I want to be there, though. UW may be really good.

Person agreed to "use his official influence over student-athletes at (Auburn) whom Person believed would enter the NBA"

HA! Person got free money. We all know AU doesn't have players who will enter the NBA.

What a mess.

Auburn's basketball team is in the news. At least that is something, right?

10:12 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Perhaps it was inappropriate on my part, but this comment by "Morgen" made me chuckle:

In lockup, Chuck can play on the prison basketball team against the guards --- in return, he can get privileges like smuggled in cell phones, drugs, and extra cigarettes. I saw this in a movie once.

10:23 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

You're right, MJT. Pearl has really elevated the stature of the program since he arrived.

10:29 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

that's an interesting interpretation of "in the news", E-Bro

11:39 AM
Blogger michael said...

Well THT, with bball we can't be too picky about how we get in the news, can we?

1:01 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

btw, I'm also very disappointed in Vicki Orr. She didn't offer to share any of her ill-gotten gains with me. I'll be really upset if y'all got a cut. Just 'cause I live out of state doesn't mean I shouldn't get mine.

1:09 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

I've been assured all our checks are in the mail.

1:36 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

But I've lived at five different addresses in the last five years. We sure they've got the right one?

3:02 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

based on that assurance, bubbs, I think I'll go buy a map.

3:39 PM
Blogger michael said...

While you're at the map store, could you get me a Price-Strothers map, THT? I've been using mine as a dart board, and it's starting to fall apart.

4:28 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

While you're browsing the map store, can you make me a PBJ? I'm peckish.

5:01 PM
Blogger THT said...

michael, that made me laugh... and cry.

I do all my shopping on line, bubbs. I'll have Amazon mail you a PBJ.

9:00 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Glad to see you post, THT. I always had a notion you might really be Hugh Hefner.

10:11 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

I've been confused with T. Jeff, but not with HH. I was logged into a different acc't so I could complete my map purchase. Your PBJ should be arriving on Monday if the delivery man doesn't eat it first.

Right now, I'd have to guess that the art museum and geology museum are more likely itinerary items than a hike. If the new weather forecast holds up it just means I'll have to go to Wyoming again next year!

12:37 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Snow?

12:54 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

very likely. Rain in Laramie right now and forecast again early next week. However, radar shows snow at Medicine Bow Peak right now.

This is a photo taken in mid June 2005 shows why it's better to wait until July/August to hike... unless you are one of those Grizzly Adams Eagle Scout types. MrsTHT has a hard enough time dragging my fat carcass up the mountain in summer. She doesn't need to do it in the snow. We would have gone in late August this year but she had a friend visiting from out-of-state.

Hi Cincy! Almost forgot we're headed that way tomorrow. Been too busy watching Laramie weather. Hold the onions! See you on Saturday.

WARRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!

yikes! The forecast her in Laramie just dropped another 10° for next Tuesday that’s 20° in two days.

Blogger bubbs said...

Safe travels, THT!

9:11 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

thanks, bubbs. We’re enjoying some Lexington bbq right now

12:34 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

Hope the BBQ was satisfactory.

1:48 PM
Blogger michael said...

Hey THT, did you find the BBQ satisfactory?

2:31 PM
Blogger bubbs said...

His silence is concerning. I'm starting to think it was not satisfactory.

4:22 PM
Blogger michael said...

He really does seem upset about the whole thing. Bummer.

4:23 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Maybe he found it more than satisfactory, in which case, you're asking the wrong question.

Did you find the BBQ to be good, THT?

5:21 PM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

michael, pick 'em

8:51 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

the bbq was superbly satisfying. The traffic in Greenville SC was not. 2nd consecutive trip that it has taken as long or longer to get through there as it did to get through Atlanta.

y’all think WSU can win the 2nd half? I hope so but since it’s almost 1am I don’t think I should stay up to find out. michael, please text the final score to my REM center

7:46 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

those are “unofficial “ BEASLEYs; nothing more than a citation.

the snow is really coming down heavier now. I’d go play in it if I wasn’t so old and stiff.

8:59 AM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

THT, Relax and enjoy the beauty. We'e got another game to play!

9:15 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

1st stop this morning was Wal-Mart for some $13 boots to better enjoy the snow, then a delicious breakfast at Prairie Rose Cafe. If I ever moved out here I’d hbe to convince them to add grits to their menu.

11:08 AM
Blogger michael said...

Leff never had to buy $13 boots on account of his traction-y feet.

2:11 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

and I assume his feet repelled water, too.

I can’t believe we went to a movie and y’all still didn’t turn the page. The good news we got $5 tickets. Being old is awesome!!!

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Sunny skies and 16 degrees this morning in Laramie. We're going to see how far we can drive up towards Medicine Bow Peak today. Y'all have a great day.

8:30 AM
Blogger bubbs said...

Glad to see you post this morning, THT. Earlier I had suspected you might really be Tom Petty.

8:48 AM
Blogger Cincytiger said...

Enjoy that weather, THT. Saturday in Auburn is going to be 82 with PM showers. :(

10:41 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Snowy Range was absolutely beautiful. About 1 foot of snow up there and views for at least 50 miles. I was surprised at how tramped down the snow was on the trail that heads up towards the peak. Those people obviously aren't couch potatoes. I will definitely miss this weather.

5:53 PM
Blogger michael said...

Do they play college football anywhere nearby? An October snow game sounds cool.

6:24 PM

It was beautiful in Auburn today! Cool breeze and mild temps. I could take a few months of this.

Don't mess up the page flip!
