Mario gets an interesting shout-out
For all you Super Mario Lovers out there ...
Tony Franklin this afternoon on Mario Fannin: "He's got to play better without the ball and he's got to show us he can be a good football player when he doesn't have the ball in his hands. Everybody knows he's good when he has it in his hands, but we can't put him in just to give him the ball. He's going to have to do the other stuff, too, and he hasn't done that."

That one makes me want to cuss online.
Starting to think Franklin is full of sh*t. His receivers, with exception to Rod and Mardio, don't run their routes on running plays. Fannin ran his routes when he was sparingly in there and he looked for people to hit.
His comments on Tristan are sort of ignorant, too. He's looked so good when he's in there, yes. No sh*t. He is good.
It is a possibility. He's a salesman afterall.
CTF, wtf are you talking about..... give Mario the ball adn let him run.... this is crazy....either displine players or let them play... he looked great on that one run adn could have had more...hey i've got a news flash.... through a simple screen CTF....Geez
That makes a lot of sense.
Playmakers only deserve the ball once or twice a game.
What a bunch of garbage!
I knew you guys would love that.
I thought Fannin looked pretty good with his one touch, though all the tailbacks (Fannin was used as a TB for his one touch) were gaining yards pretty consistently.
I think I'm headed home now.
(other blather deleted because ... it was pointless.)
Jay, that poster sounds jaded. Who are these weirdos that say things like this? Is this just competitive flair ups or what?
Wierd stuff.
Welcome to the big leagues, Professor Franklin. You have a few things to learn about fan expectations.
Crudup ... what were you talking about?
Didnt see the game but what i have heard is not good news. Wonder if TT is having second thoughts. Our program is mortgaged on CTF 'system'.
Have a good night, JGT.
Thanks for all the hard work.
The post Jay deleted, Phred.
Ah, I see. I am with you on CTF. I hope he knows what he has gotten into. I feel a storm coming and it's not Gustav. Sometimes when you try to completely reinvent the wheel, and then act like you invented it in the first place, you can wind up looking really stupid.
I will say this: we had better make some decisions and move forward.
The WRs are getting thin, the QBs are out of sync, and the OC is feeling the pressure.
We are one more lousy game away from Tubs pulling the plug on this.
Some stats:
Rhoad's defense (against ULM): 220 yds on 68 plays, 0 TDs
Muschamp's defense (against FIU): 292 yds on 62 plays, 1 TD
Clinton Durst (in his first football game): 43 yds per punt (ranked 21st nationally)
Southern Miss has the NCAA's second-leading rusher: Damion Fletcher 222 yds on 21 carries against UL-L.
Big Ben "Parliament" Tate is ranked 22nd with 115 yds against UL-M.
Well, I think it might take more than one more game, but it definitely won't take more than one season.
It could be a simple problem though. Rhythm is a BIG deal. We'll see what happens in the Southern Miss game.
Reading between the lines in some other comments, it sounded like to me that CTF was saying, "we are going to give Todd a few more opportunities, and then we'll just stick with Kodi."
Of course rhythm is a big deal. That's why people dont generally play two QB's.
I've been saying it for six months and no one would listen. This does not look good.
Oh shut up. :-)
We all bought it. You were right. We were wrong. So far anyway.
Phred, you should be correct on that reading. TF wants really bad for CT to take the reigns. Problem is I don't think CT, physically, can do it. An absolute rag arm. Everybody can see it. You'll get nervous in your first game in front of 90K. But you won't just lose your ability to throw the ball 15 yards. It's quite the opposite unless, of course, you have a rag arm.
I'm not sure where CT is the "better passer". Kodi's throw to Slaughter- CT can't do that. Cox couldn't do that. It was there and Slaughter killed a huge opportunity. Rod Smith would have sucked that one in. The throw off the back foot to Rod in the endzone- it was perfect, just a half second too late. We haven't had a QB since '04 have the capability to make that throw.
I want Kodi to run when he can. Label him a runner if they will. Fine by me. He will be a handful to any defense is he continues to hone his talent and if this QB rotation game is ended by Tubs. TF's crush on Todd...
Hmm..
And then sometimes, in the back of my mind, I still wonder if CT's only real function is to make Kodi better. The coaches keep saying, "We are just waiting for someone to really seperate themselves." I wonder if they are saying, "We are waiting on Kodi to step up and dominate."
Could be
Having watched AU run the "three yards and a cloud of dust" offense successfully for years, I was very skeptical of this radical shift in philosophy. The mid majors run it well against themselves, but don't get anywhere against upper tier opponents. Tubs was in a bind though. I believe he preferred Big AL Borges' offense, but knew they wouldn't be able to get the top-notch offensive skill players (namely wide-receivers) to run it as successfully as the '04 team did.In order to stem the recruiting "tide" from the West, he knew that a radical shift had to occur. Enter Tony Franklin. Although I honestly beleive that this "system" will produce, it absolutely will not do crap until CTF puts a clipboard in C. Todd's hands and a football in Kodi's. For those of us at the Stadium Sat, it was clear who the better QB was; and if I am smart enough to pick up on it, the players have to be. I used to think all of the preseason "infighting" stuff was just bama propaganda, but I could literally feel the dessention in the offensive ranks. Last year with Borges and Brandon we stunk, but we stunk as a team and did what we had to do to win most of our games. I have a feeling that our guys on offense will not come together until their "quarterback" is taking all of the snaps. I'm not sure what the Todd kid has on his coaches, but if he continues to receive the preferred status he has enjoyed we may be in for a loooong season. It is ok for a QB to struggle, but only if his players have faith in him.
Well said
I surely couldn't have been the only one to feel that "division" when those players came out of the gate. It wasn't simply one nervous fan's traditional first game jitters. You could sense something was wrong. I did not expect them to come out arm in arm for ULAMO, but I didn't think one would be able to cut the tension with a knife either.
