Coach Tommy Tuberville has spoken. Here are The Important Things:
- Philip Pierre-Louis is out for the season. He injured a knee during the opening kick-off and that's a wrap. Tuberville said PPL will have surgery this week.
- QB Kodi Burns suffered what Tuberville said was a "7-inch gash" on his shin. The injury required stitches. A Monroe helmet is to blame. Tuberville said he thinks Burns will miss practice Monday and resume work Tuesday.
- WR James Swinton isn't in dire straits as once believed. His MRI revealed no damage. The injury is classified as a hyperextension. Tuberville believes Swinton will be back for Southern Miss.
- WLB Merrill Johnson is dealing with a hamstring strain. He should be ready for Southern Miss.
- WR Montez Billings missed the Monroe game with a hamstring problem. Tuberville said Billings may or may not be back in time for Southern Miss.
- FB/WR John Douglas suffered a more serious knee injury. His long-term status is unknown. His short-term status is ... no go.
- Tuberville said DE Raven Gray remains on the team. I received a few emails earlier in the week from folks who were hearing that Gray was on his way out.
- C Jason Bosley was responsible for a few poor snaps (Tuberville said it was two; wasn't it more?) but Tuberville didn't seem concerned about it. Ryan Pugh spent a big chunk of the second half playing center. Bosley was on the sideline. I thought it may have been a punishment/demotion situation, but Tuberville said that's not the case.
- Auburn finshed with 85 passing yards. Al Borges spent 50 games as the Tigers' offensive coordinator. Only once did his group fail to record at least 100 passing yards (against Georgia in 2006). Tony Franklin now has one below-100 game in two career Auburn appearances.
- Tuberville said the Tigers may revisit the switch-with-each-possession deal at quarterback ... assuming Burns is ready to go Saturday.
- UPDATED: Tommy Trott was named the team's offensive player of the game. Seriously. He caught zero balls for zero yards. He must have had a perfect blocking day?
- UPDATED: Other players receiving POW honors included DE Mike Goggans (defense), LB Spencer Pybus (special teams), C Andrew Parmer (scout offense), DE Cam Henderson (scout defense).

sad for PPL. is it just me or does 1/2 of our WR's seem hurt? it's nuts.
i still haven't seen any video. anxious for CSS at 5/6 ET.
Thanks for the updates, Jay. I felt PPL was brittle at that weight. He's got a year to recover and build up. Hope he doesn't lose those jets. I sat right where the injury happened. The LAMO player responsible for the tackle did some extra tugging and twisting while PPL was down. A lot of people were screaming bloody murder around me. But I'm not sure that's too blame.
Bosley definitely snapped a good many to the feet of the QBs, typically Kodi it seemed.
Surprised to see that Thorpe was that physical of a player at 170lbs. At 200 lbs or more in two years he's going tpo be hell.
Incredible downfield pass deflection by Powers. Haven't seen anything like that since Brock's questionable play vs. LSU two years ago. But Powers was running full speed on a straight up fly. That's impressive stuff. Makes you feel better that you have guys like Powers and Thorpe with receivers like Byrd at LSU, the UGA crew, and Julio Jones on the horizon.
Defense was good. Took them a few possessions to figure out how to defend a spread that actually executes but they shut it down before things got interesting.
Coleman is better than Q.
Ziemba's kind of psycho with the ripping the helmets off and kicking them.
Chris Todd has issues. Knew that in warm up. He slings his body off the ground as he throws because his arm isn't worthy anymore.
Merrill Johnson and Evans were everywhere as was Bynes. Did Blackmon not score one single tackle?
Defense B+ (great for first game)
Offense F
Give the ball to Fannin and get Davis and Swinton on the field. Always, always get Rod Smith his touches. He's glue.
Jay G.
You should re-title this entry:
Tuberville Speaks...and as usual, says NOTHING
Bo, good observations.
J.G.
nice seat on the 50 yard line you have.
Swtiching every possession is not working. I have changed my postition 180 degress. Play Kodi as long as possible. Play Todd only when we have to. Like when we are up two or three touchdowns and ready to run the rest of the game. The more I think about it, the more I don't think Todd has, or ever had, a chance to be good.
I'd love to be a fly on the wall in coaches meetings this week.
I wish I was on the 50 rather than the south 49.
Video eta 5:35.
Phred, all you'd probably hear in those meetings is Tubs telling folks to get their butts in gear and then telling them to play it safer!
"UPDATED: Tommy Trott was named the team's offensive player of the game. Seriously. He caught zero balls for zero yards. He must have had a perfect blocking day?"
ARE YOU KIDDING ME?
TUBS HAS LOST HIS EVER-LOVING MIND!
Better make that 5:50 on the video.
just saw the replay of the non-catch by Rod Smith in the EZ. heckuva throw by Kodi throwing off his back foot. of course, if he'd stepped into it he prob would've had the TD. nice effort by rod, though.
JG, the big blue is embarrassing UofL. nice.
I'm glad UK is winning ... my mom and dad are Louisville grads.
Video up.
UK 27-2 over UofL. the cards reminded me of clemson last nite. no offense whatsoever.
Here we go. Franklin speaks. The rotation will continue but it will be different next time out. What he's saying is one will play two or three possessions and the other will do the same. If one is in rhythm then he stays in.
Duh...
Still doesn't work. Still creates the same issue for the QBs mentality. Still doesn't compensate for Todd's short arm.
If I had a vote I'm Kodi all the way with Trotter moved into the back up role. I know I don't get a vote and Todd is Franklin's son basically. But Kodi has the wheels, the arm, and the upside. His mistake can be mote easily corrected than simply not being able to react and throw the ball beyond 15 yards.
I'm missing Cox now. My, the irony.
less than 24 hours into the season and we're already missing BC? wow. didn't think i'd hear that, um....ever.
Those quarterbacks were pretty stinky Saturday. I don't blame you for missing Brandon. At least you expected a rag arm from him, you know?
Hey Jay..
Any news about Tristan Davis?
That dude is CURSED.
Things that made me feel good about AU football:
Defense
Ben Tate, Mario Fannin, Eric Smith
The more I replay it in my mind, the more I am very excited about E. Smith. He's a man with baby fat.
Franklin seemed critical of Tristan today.
He said: ``He looks so good when he's been there, but since I've been here, he hasn't practiced probably 10 practices. I don't know. The other three backs are good and they all played pretty good. He'll definitely get some reps in the two-back stuff, but until he proves he can stay healthy, there's no reason to plan for him."
