Practice report, 8/27
Hey everyone. We've got some news. I'd consider this big news to those of us who think about the Auburn football program at least eight hours per day.
Let's get to it.
Today's video report stars:
Kodi Burns as The Voracious Sophomore Quarterback
Chris Todd as The Hopeful Junior Quarterback
Zaccheus Etheridge as The Wily Veteran
Brad Lester as The Happy Guy
Tommy Tuberville as The Head Coach

Let's get to it.
- WR Robert Dunn has been demoted to the fourth-team offense. I know what you're thinking: Suspension? Grades? Neither. Coach Tommy Tuberville said Dunn is in the "doghouse," but will play this weekend. Dunn remains the top guy on punt returns.
- The revised depth chart at "H" receiver looks like this: T. Zachery, Darvin Adams, Mario Fannin, Dunn.
- DE Raven Gray is going to redshirt this season. I told you all he was messed up! Tuberville said Gray's surgically repaired knee hasn't responded as well as hoped, which means Gabe "Spuds" McKenzie now is the No. 2 guy on the strong side. You see what I'm talking about on the radio in regard to depth? I like McKenzie, but he was a tight end last week.
- WR Montez Billings looks like he'll miss this game with a hamstring injury. Auburn's newly released depth chart has Frenchy at No. 2 "Z" receiver and Quindarius Carr at No. 3.
- CB Neiko Thorpe and CB D'Antoine Hood will run with the second-team defense.
- SS Jonathan Vickers is listed as the No. 2 guy behind Mike McNeil. That means freshman Christian Thompson officially is on the third-team defense, but I think that's just a nice way to give Vickers some respect. He doesn't have much speed.
- TB Brad Lester said today than TB Tristan Davis is really struggling with his latest foot injury.
- Tuberville also made it clear that OG Chaz Ramsey is headed for a redshirt, though he stopped short of official confirmation. It's obvious that Byron Isom will have that job unless he bottoms out or something else unforseen occurs.

robert, dude, it's game week #1 of your senior year. act like the senior leader you're supposed to be. the 'doghouse' is unacceptable for a senior.
No doubt. I think his mouth got the best of him again.
Hey Jay David Ching said on his blog that his opinion was that KB would start based on listening to him and CT talk today as well as their body language. Do you have an opinion on that or did you see more of a pep in KB's step?
I concur; Kodi seemed more enthusiastic overall.
It's significant to note, though, that Kodi is more enthusiastic than Todd in general. That's just how their personalities are. Still, I picked up on what Chingy was feeling ...
just saw the updated depth chart on auburnsports.com. so, did R. Shoemaker fall apart this fall punting (i had read reports about his consistency) or does this Clinton Durst guy just got a cannon for a leg?
I'm right there with you jay, I think Dunn had another blow up at practice. I thought he would have gotten those mental lapses out of his system by his senior year.
The coaches have said Durst has better hang time and equal distance, so he's right there for the punter job.
I wonder whom Ben Tate prefers.
come on jay, it's pretty obvious who the starting punter should be. everyone's got their own opinions. ben's just going to keep his to himself. ;)
There is no punter controversey. They are just playing the media!
:-)
Dunn is dumb. That can't be changed. He's never broken my heart. He gives you about an 80% shot at actually catching the ball and his return skills might look better at Troy. He's quick but he has not legit speed.
Give the return job to the freshman this game while Dunn is yet again in the doghouse.
Jay, I dint think Raven's absence is gloom and doom for AU's DL. I mean, he's never played a down. He was potentially gravy and that's based on a lofty ranking and a prototype body. Gabe will be fine there. In fact, he's already better than Gray. So it's rather Even Steven.
Tristan Davis never happened. That's all I gotta say. He's like Kevin Johnson of the Suns back in the day. Always hurt when you need him.
What IS wrong with that boys feet? It's just amazing.
Though I think you were being rhetorical for effect, but Dunn isn't dumb. He's a smart kid -- one of the team's brightest guys -- but he tends to run his mouth at the wrong time.
I'm not hatin'. I do that, too.
As for Raven Gray, he's a 10-star recruit who won't be in there. He wasn't gravy to this coaching staff; they thought he was the present at SDE.
He certainly isn't that. He may or may not be the future. Now Gray has McKenzie and Goggans to think about.
My point is this, Gray can't run. Gabe can. That's upside.
Also, it's dumb to continue to do things that land you in the doghouse. Two weeks ago we got the story that he was over all that garbage. The guy's a role player.
He certainly reverted quickly, no doubt.
I'm a Spuds fan in case nobody realized it.
Jay, no mention of Slaughter in the front page. By design?
By the way, forgive me all for calling Dunn "dumb". That was classless.
I know what you meant on Dunn. I just thought a clarification was necessary.
Three days without a mention of Chris Slaughter here. Is that a record?
It is. Slaughter is the poor man's Julio.
I wonder what Carney thinks about Slaughter.
Carney is devising a plan of attack. Carney's not i-Man is he?
Wholio?
Right Said Phred, are you going to the game? And if so, how does one propose to watch the University of Julio Saban at once?
He lashed out at me for putting his "personl work" information on the blog. It was up for several seconds. He's acting like it was up for hours.
Dude rips me ... then wants me to apologize.
Doesn't work like that.
Why did he care that his personal work was identified? Didn't he send an email from his company email (company resource/property)?
No sir, this weekend is pay per view. My dedication to AU does not equal my dedication to my son, who will be spending the weekend with me. He's not qutie ready to stay up until 10 or 11.
I'll be there for Southern Miss though. What about you?
He sent the disparaging email from his work account.
I still don't get it.
I'm so careful about what's work and what's personal, you know?
Absolutely, Jay. I'm sure he learned his lesson.
Phred, I will be attending. I will be with the little lady. Boys will be at Granny's for the evening.
I'm headed out for the evening.
Take care and I'll write with you all later.
Peace...
G ... I just watched the video. I want to be your manager/promoter. This is good stuff.
Great work as always, man.
Hope you have a great evening.
Phred, email me when you get a chance.
My take on Dunn: Looks like someone wasn't playing as a team player and paid the price - and served as a wakeup call for the rest of the team at a pivitol time.
Tuberville at his finest. Can't think of a better way to get the team focused on performance to ensure that Auburn doesn't make the same mistakes against La Monroe that Alabama did.
In weather related news ... Gustav looks like trouble. I hope not.
Auburn is going to wallop LAMO simply by turning loose our DL and having Blackmon and Co breathing down their necks. We could utilize Lester and Tate only and call it a day. But, of course, that's not going to happen. Everybody gets their reps in.
I'm going to need to see PPL return a few punts and Adams return an INT to be satisfied.
Gustav is trouble no doubt, Phred. I'm down here on the coast. I can't even imagine the impact another disaster will have on us down here by several metrics. It's always wonderful to entertain one of these bad boys when you're in the process of selling and buying a home(s).
If that thing heads up to New Orleans like they think (still too early to tell), ah man...
That's all I can say...
Crudup ... if you are not a writer or a radio guy, you missed a good opportunity.
Well, let's hope it doesn't do that. I watch the weather closely as it pertains even more closely to how much money I make.
A good place to get the real scoop on weather is www.noaa.gov
