Fourth Quarter
- To those clamoring for Kodi Burns: I don't think Auburn can do that now. LSU is less than one quarter away. Tony Franklin already has invested several consecutive quarters toward Todd as the No. 1 guy. If they move Burns in now and he flops (which is at least an even bet) then they go into The Big Game with no confidence. Untenable.
101 Comments:
More mental lapses on that punt.
This is a lot like the Arkansas game last year, but without the talent on the other sideline.
gotta put in burns now
To sum up the first three quarters, I borrow a line from Stanley Goodspeed (in "The Rock"):
"Well, that's just about the most awful thing I've ever seen."
Bob Davey is right about one thing. Throws down the middle have been money for us so far.
I have zero confidence in this offense.
How many 2nd and double digits have we had in this game either due to bad 1st down calls or penalties?
Todd is holding the ball way too long
Has there been a worse offensive performance for Auburn since Tuberville arrived in 1999?
Our screens seem to have a lot of blockers just standing around.
Another 3rd and long.
JGT,
I'll say the 1st 3 quarters vs App State in 1999 would match up.
Great throw there tough. Too bad the penalties stop us again.
That was one of those Tub's "just live to punt" type plays.
Something's gotta give.
Lee Ziemba having a bad night.
Ten penalties now for 85 yards.
Jay,
My basketball shots look better than this - FR
Ziemba looked bored during your pregame video on him, maybe his head just isn't there today?
Whatever it is, our O-line looks lost today.
I would rather just line up in the I-formation than this impotence
JGT, is the defense looking tired at all?
I only ask because they are our only hope here.
MSU has 94 yards of offense.
AU has 85 yards of penalties.
You gotta feel for our D, they are the only thing we have today.
Jay - I like you, but that post has zero sense to it.
Can they have any less confidence than they have right now? This is the definition of insanity.
Well only 97 yards to go.
I'm headed down to the field for interviews.
I'll be back later for post-game chatter.
Re: Not subbing out Kodi.
I'm not defending them. I'm explaining how they think.
this is a game of who can suck less
Ask about all those third and long draws.
While I'd love to give props to State's D, it's more what we are doing to ourselves than what they are doing to us.
Thanks for the work, JGT.
As Todd throws the ball to nobody.
A penalty costs us points now.
Bad call on that hold though. The defender had Pugh by the facemask.
Lester has been cleared and is headed back from the hospital.
Wow, a kick out of bounds. State gets the ball at midfield.
Good news for Brad.
Well we might as well get a penalty against the sideline too.
I really can't imagine asking the D to save us again, but hopefully they can.
Another f'n turnover.
Just take a knee on offense and punt. This is pathetic and how you lose games like this.
Next week could be very ugly.
Auburn hockey just won 3-2. Congrats to Auburn defenders.
Jay, there is 0 confidence in Franklin or his lame protege Todd. No f'ing excuse for these fumbling shotgun formation high school reject plays.
Kodi gives Auburn it's ONLY chance against ANYBODY moving forward.
Humiliating. The offensive genius puts up 3 freakin' points. LSU is going to kill this junior high offense.
I would say something, but I have no words.
CTT - I feel for you sir. I am afraid you may have recently made a career changing decision.
CTF - You are a con man. Go home. Go somewhere. Just go away.
I'm with Phred. There should be something to say about this, but I'll be damned if I know what could be.
Well, I think that Ohio State-USC game is on tonight-it hasn't really been hyped so I'll have to check. At least I can watch some real offense tonight. Go defense. You're our only hope.
Glad we got that double in the bottom of the ninth to pull this one out.
Awful.
Should have put in Kodi at half. That would have given him a decent shot at confidently winning the job before LSU.
Also, they need an I-formation package. This shotgun at the end of the game is terrible.
didn't have much to post tonite b/c i was busy cussing at my tv.
at a complete loss for words.
????????????????????
3-2... I've seen David Beckham score more points in a single game. Clinton Durst would have better luck punting to receivers. I think Chris Todd has AIDS.
Miss State total yardage 114
Auburn penalty yardage 94
Have we been sold a bill of goods on this offense?
This spread stuff on the goalline has got to go.
CTF should be arrested. He just ran the best long con ever.
Revenge is sweet says Larry Blakeney.
CTT quote on the radio in the locker room "...this offense is a work in progress".
You don't say coach?
There is a reason that Chris Todd was recruited by only one school before coming to AU.
Glad we won. I don't want to think about the beating coming next week.
It won't be bad as what OSU is getting right now (we have a defense), but if we play like the first three games on offense, we won't beat LSU.
Peace out everybody!
At least on a good note, Brad Lester is fine.
Todd didn't play well, but he was also handicapped by horrible play calling from the sidelines.
Brad Lester is indeed "OK," though he wasn't exactly ready to play when I saw him moments ago. He was diagnosed with a neck sprain.
CTF said they "stunk it up."
I concur.
Why does the O line look so bad ? Todd looks bad as well but I just dont undestand why The O line looks so bad tonight.
A slight understatement there by CTF, huh?
I appreciate CTF's honesty, but this is the second or third time we've heard something like thta this year. Seems like last year after every game they said "we're going to have to figure something out on offense", could be my bad memory though. I guess we're at least trying something different this year, but we're getting the same or worse results. That looked worse than a Hugh Nall OC offense.
"Tony Franklin just ran the best long con ever" ... That's a great quote Phred.
While is still think Wesley Carroll is terrible. Jay you were right in saying he would start at Auburn.
Maybe we need to try the Nallklin or Franksminger offense
the chances of us scoring 10 points next week have to be 25-1.
no offense to Chris, but he doesn't have the arm strength needed to run this offense. You can't "spread" the defense when you can only throw short passes. Because he can't throw the deep ball with any force, defenses are playing up on the line making the short passes more difficult.
Nor does Todd have the legs to run this offense.
The State DE's were able to do what they want as they didn't respect the QB running the ball.
Does anybody remember tecmo bowl? That's what the running plays look like to me. We have four plays and all the defense has to do is blitz people off the edge. And to compound things our quarterback can't exploit blitzes.
Tecmo Bowl was the greatest game ever.
QB Waggle and WR Cross were the best to plays to run.
To me, it is not his arm strength that's the issue. The guys are open, he just waits until the play is almost over before he throws it to them. Then he throws it to where they were six strides ago.
If you have to block that long on one play, you are going to get called for holding. Ain't no two ways about it.
I say play Kodi next week. We have nothing to lose. Either that, or just let the defense play offense too. They couldn't do any worse.
I forgot to add that we don't have bo jackson anymore
"To me, it is not his arm strength that's the issue. The guys are open, he just waits until the play is almost over before he throws it to them. Then he throws it to where they were six strides ago."
That's got alot to do with arm strength to me, phred.
It's been a long time since we had a QB who could hit a WR in stride on a deep ball.
Campbell is as good as we've had, but even he struggled at times hitting the deep ball without slowing the WR down.
It's hard to explain my point, but I'll try. TIMING. That's what I'm talking about. The throw to RD that was called back. He had been open for 15 yards. It could have been thrown much earlier. Instead it's thrown at the end of the route when all he can do is catch it and fall down. You follow?
Not sure as to the validity, but i heard Burns showed up 20 min. late for practice last week and was unoficially "suspended" for this game. Seems plausible since Todd would have had better luck playing pick up sticks with his butt cheeks than running this offense.
Kodi Burns is the answer. If we are afraid of a starter "losing confidence," then what does scoring only 3 points do? Confidence was already lost. Tuberville should show some backbone and say that 3 point is unacceptable in one half, and definitely unacceptable for a whole game.
Tony Franklin needs to let his pet sit on the bench and play the real deal, Kodi Burns.
Phred, i definately think the timing is off, but arm strength is definately a major player in the equation.
James in Bham - maybe you could just say Franklin pooped the couch?
Not sure yet if Burns is "The Real Deal", however it's got to be better than what we have seen from Todd today.
RM - not saying that Todd has a good arm. Last attempt ... If he throws the ball ten yards sooner on that route, he doesn't have to throw it as far. RD catches it in stride and runs into the endzone. Also, the play happens quicker and we don't get called for holding.
Todd holds onto the ball too long and is constantly shuffling his feet and not getting set as he throws.
He doesn't get the ball to the WR at the point where they can make a play once they catch it.
75 comments... the HABOTN is reaching super nova status, and that is quite warm my friends. To bad it is discussing one of the most miserable games in recent Auburn history.
What a shame to squander a championship defense with this lame excuse for an offense. Is Fannin hurt? If he is, say he is or get him the freakin football. He was on the field for two plays. A pitch play when youre trying to eat clock? A similar play got Dubose fired. Just a thought, but how about having one play when the QB is under center so as to minimize the chances of a bad snap at the end of a game.
I'm saying this is the second worst played game of all time. The worst being a 3-0 loss to Southern Miss about 30 years ago.
No doubt Phred, he needs to throw 5 seconds sooner and ten yards higher. Did anyone play the game "500" when they were little? I think that is a good comparison.
What is really sad is that this offense was more efficient against a top ten defense in the bowl game with only nine practices.
The thing is, it's not just that play - it's every play. He's either afraid to make a decision or doesn't know how to make one. The play is over by the time he decides what to do.
Why did we think the second or third string QB at Texas Tech would be the man. Actually, I think I have asked you that question before.
sorry you didn't get your 41 points and congrats on the win, phormerly, you know-it-all homer. i don't know how y'all can stand that guy. all we needed was 15-20 yards to get into field goal(ish) range...i'll be dreaming of 5-3 tinight. make sure and send a thank you note to our offensive coordinator who has been here for 5 years and Croom refuses to fire him. truly, y'all should be wishing that Croom ended up in t-town. i think we can all agree that we watched two great defenses tonight. best of luck against the other tigers next week. all the bulldogs will be routing for you.
cheers.
don't even respond. i am out and i won't be back!
Chris Todd = Daniel Cobb
Just doesn't have the mentality.
Hate to say it, but when you have THE DEEPEST BACKFIELD in the country why switch to an offense that doesn't exploit that strength? I would blame the recruiting butt kicking that we got last year although I think the decision to replace Borges was made long before that event occured. Although plenty of our woes tonight were self-inflicted (penalties, turnovers etc.), only a fool would hitch his wagon up to the Chris Todd train.
we just got ripped on sportscenter...that game was absolutely shameful. why not just play kodi and take our lumps as he learns the offense? i mean, todd couldn't even play at freakin texas tech...
cakeface: The only thing worse than Auburn's offense was State's and it had nothing to do with their coordinator....that draw worked so well LAST YEAR. By the way, it's rooting for you not routing.....
Poundcakeface ... when did I give any indication I knew anything. I said I was going on my gut. Which turned out to be the crawfish I ate the night before. I don't think I acted like a jerk. Why don't you try not to do the same.
I think cake fell asleep on his cowbell......
See ya, poundcakeface.
Sheesh.
I just can't comprehend how you don't insert Burns into that game.
1st option - A quarterback who is a threat to neither run or pass.
2nd option - A quarterback who is at the very least an option to run.
I'm still trying to figure out why PCF picked me to rip on. I don't think I've said more than three or four things in the last day or two, at least until tonight.
As bad a job as Franklin has done this year, Tuberville at least picked the right Def. Cord. Awesome performance.
You know, since poundcakeface decided to make me the bad guy, I think I'll be one. Get some of this PCF.
I'm an Auburn fan you ignorant dumb ass, not a journalist. I am SUPPOSED to be a homer.
I said it before, AU was 2-0 and MSU was 1-1. Now AU is 3-0 and MSU is 1-2. I think the best team won. Although AU won ugly, AU still won. With that said, we'll need everyone on earth pulling for us next week against LSU. I think we're in for a good 'ole wake up call next week when Todd is named starter and we get our ass handed to us. MSU still has a chance to get it's offense together before facing LSU. I'm afraid AU has had all the time they are going to get and they haven't used it wisely. I'm glad we won but I'm afraid this sour season hasn't even started yet. BTW, good job defense, you earned the shutout tonight, too bad it won't go down in the books like that.
JGT, can we get some analysis on the penalties provided by our offensive line this year? I have a feeling it won't be good. Maybe 4-5 false starts per game and 4-5 holding calls per game? Gotta be close. Gotta be fixed!!!
Poundcakeface got just that. Our D pounded MSU's face. I there was a dominating performance, it was AU's D. At least our D didn't give up a fieldgoal. Keep dreaming about the 5-3. It didn't happen. Just to remind you, it was 3-2 in AU's favor.
Phred that guy is a joke. He is probably kicking his wife/sister right now and looking to get on the next team they play's blog.
I wouldn't worry about it, phred.
You're an established guy here on your home turf. He stopped by for MSU week, he's pissed that his team is inferior to CTF and that's pretty much that.
I will take great pleasure in being comment number 100. A first on the HABOTN. Super Nova staus has now been reached.
Thanks for giving us the extra push we needed, RM.
