Thursday schedule

Hey everyone. Thanks the the hard-core hoops HOTTIES for following along last night. I think that coverage plan works ... updates every four game minutes or so. If the team falls off the cliff, though, you'll lose interest and I'll stop doing in-game updates.

My guess is this team ends up decent. So those of you who like basketball will have at least some peripheral interest.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT TODAY: Tuberville and these pre-selected players are (allegedly) available today:
QB Kodi Burns
LB Josh Bynes
DT Zach Clayton
DB Zac Etheridge
DT Sen’Derricks Marks
TE Gabe McKenzie
WR Rod Smith

We got 5-of-8 on Tuesday, so I expect only a few of these players to show. My goal is to write something about Gabe McKenzie for Friday's editions.

I'll do a video around 2:30 and I'll be posting anything newsworthy as we progress.

Sounds good, Jay G. As long as you don't interview the latest Bear Bryant biographer like the whole world at WMSP is doing today, I'll be right here. Otherwise, I'm going back to hiding in the AUB cave.

Not another Bear Bryant book! I liken these biographies like the endless number of "slasher" movies at the movie rental places. If you make a slasher movie (or Bryant biography) you know you will make X amount of dollars--so they keep on churning them out.

I'm working on my own Bryant book: Bear Bryant: Man of Fashion--A Retrospective Of Sideline Wardrobe Worn By The Legendary Coach

What's the word on Mercer? Are they any good or is that a game we should have won last night? Hopefully they rebound against GW.

I personally like this Bear Bryant Book, "The Hundred Dollar Handshake: How to Influence and Win Recruits" by Bear Bryant.

Michael4au- Mercer beat Alabama and have a good player in Florence. Even as much as we were out rebounded last night, we still had the shot to win. Mercer is a decent team.

I think he was the main architect of Jan Terri's famous hairdo. She had more of a punk style, and cuddly old Bear turned it into a poof style. Things ended badly though, and she wrote the song "Losing You," and as they say, the rest is history.

I don't know Basketball very well and won't comment. Nice reporting JG. Kudos to the Hotties that know it and are interested.

We have a new arena on the way, hopefully we can win and get folks fired up.

Awaiting this year's Iron Bowl stinks. For years now I didn't even get excited about the Iron Bowl because I felt certain we would win. Now I am not excited for the opposite reason. I guess there are some people you just can't satisfy.

Seeker,

As you spoke the truth, your statement has value. Thus, it is always appropriate to post no matter what the original post is.

There is reason why there are always several people publishing Bear Bryant stories. The reason is that there is a never ending supply of mouth breathing morons that have the intelligence barely equaling that of a mollusk, but they apparently have cash to spend.

Will the new arena help us rebound better or shoot freethrows?

I do wish Lebo would do more to promote the program. He needs to be shameless about having promotions. That was what was so good about Sonny. If you have a product, you need to really push it.

I know that Dick Fick is no longer among the living. But maybe if Jeff Lebo started behaving like the late coach from Morehead, he could get a cult following going that come just for the show.

Blogger coosa said...

DC - Caught your comment last night about Lebo never recruiting players with sound fundamentals, like you would see at Butler. I remember watching a Butler game last year and asking my uncle, who played BB at Ga Tech, how many of those players would have gone to AU if given a chance. His answer - all of them. Probably not true, but I'm sure some of them would.

Why does Lebo continue to recruit nothing but athletic players who seemingly know nothing about the fundamentals of BB? Why can't he teach them to shoot free throws? There is no reason that anyone with halfway decent hand-eye coordination should shoot under 80% if taught proper fundamentals.

I guess what I'm asking, is why doesn't Lebo recruit any players who play the game the way he did himself? He was as sound fundamentally as any guard you would see, yet none of his players are like that at all.

I'm very frustrated at seeing him put the same type team on the court each year and know they have little chance of accomplishing anything.

10:36 AM
Blogger ADP said...

When you are not in shape - you can't hit free throws at the end of the game.

When you are afraid to bump - you can't get rebounds.

Those are both easily fixed.

Ah, Sonny Smith, one of my favorite Auburn coaches. Why? Because of something he said just before he left. It was something like this. When Pat Dye got to Auburn they bought him a huge house. When I got to Auburn they bought me a mobile home and told me not to bother taking the wheels off.

Can you ask the defense guys what wrestling move they would plan on Bama DL Cody if he was in at Fullback as planned? I would think something off the top rope would minimoze his size.

After observing the bball game last night, what kind of impact do you think the JUCO guys and Sullivan will have on the team this year. It didn't sound like Sullivan had too good of a night shooting.

Jay, I thought it was about time to finally post, I have been an avid reader of HABOTN for the last 4 months. Probably should even study more at Tulane and less reading of HABOTN and the Hotties, but down here in the land of LSU, its nice to have a beacon of light from time to time. I am glad to see that the coverage will be continuing on both the men's and women's basketball teams. They both have been undergoing a lot of rebuilding in the past couple of seasons, and it's good to see that they are finally coming around.

how does media relations snag 4 out of 7 players? do the media request certain guys and Meredith Jenkins (Media Relations) see what she can do? i didn't know if the guys were required to or they could just blow it off if they don't really 'feel' like it.

Meredith is long gone. She's a highly paid administrator now.

I really have no idea why our success rate with players has dropped. I was at 99% for eight years, dropped to 95% last year and now we're down in the 70s.

I guess it's just getting tight around here.

the place Todd went to this year, the Seafood and Creole Shack, that place is awesome. Has anyone gone there recently? I haven't been in a couple of years. Back when I went, no one would be there and it smelled like poop if it rained and there were stray cats everywhere. It looked nicer on ESPN, though.

But man, it is some awesome food.

I agree, the Creole Shack was the best kept secret in Auburn. You could go and no one was ever around. I went last year and actually had to wait for a table. It's still the same with the floor sloping away from the kitchen and the stray cats hanging out outside.

Any place where they put a steak on a grill, take it off, drop it in frying oil, then put it back on the grill is fine by Jet.

Jet G. Ate was the one who was worried about my cholesterol Mr. Covington. i'm a pretty good eater. i'll survive. thanks for caring.

What do you think the turn out of Auburn fans will be at the Iron Bowl? I think it will like last years Bama fans at our place. Last year the bama fans were scarce and not very enthusiastic, they came in with "0" expectations and many of them expected to lose so they werent that upset when the left. I think thats a good comparison.

3:00 PM

Jay,

To hell with basketball, I doubt many fans can name more than one player on the team. Whats up with baseball? I hope we turn things around, The USA team player from Grissom, will hopefully have a great year for us, plus we need major pitching help. Does Greg Olsen or Tim Hudson have eligibility left?

3:02 PM

I'll promise to diligently follow AU men's and women's basketball the entire season if we beat Bama.

I won't however, bash the team or coach...of course that's no surprise to anyone.
