So a lot has been made about Jarrett Lee having 6 interceptions returned for touchdowns. At what point would it be prudent for Les Miles to start having the offense work on tackling drills? I mean, if a guy is so keen on throwing interceptions, you might as well be prepared.
Good video as usual Jay, but could someone tell Tommy that the Bama game is not at home? Well, wait, Bryant-Denny is Auburn's home, they've never lost there, have they?
A missed fact here or there isn't a big deal ...
And, yes, Auburn never has lost in Tuscaloosa.
...and never will!! War Eagle!
Question Presented to Tuberville:Can a win salvage the season?
Tuberville's Anser: " When you lose five games ... we don't do that very often."
I'm not sure what he calls "often" but in ten seasons at Auburn, he's lost five games or more 4 times. That amounts to 40% of the time. Anyone who buys into his spin is clueless...
And before you respond Eddie, why don't you check out the record. And while you are at it, why don't you tell me the four best seasons Tuberville has had at Auburn. I'll help you, 2000, 2004, 2006 and???...Three good seasons in 10. That's 30% of the time Tuberville has had an acceptable season during his tenure at Auburn.
The real question is this: Would Mark Rick, Urben Myer, Bob Stoops, Nick Saban, Mack Brown, Les Miles, Pete Carroll, Butch Davis or Steve Spurrier have the kind of season Tuberville is having after 10 years? Hell no. And don't give me Paterno and Bowden as exceptions, as both of their records prior to their down years was incomparable to Tubervilles.
sorry, spelled Richt's name wrong in my the note above and i usually think someone who spells names wrong doesn't have a clue what he/she is talking about. so i wanted to correct it.
Very well, Tim. Now that I know you know how to spell "Richt," your argument is thrown into a whole new light!
sorry jay, didn't mean to be nit-picky. on a different topic- do you think C.Todd is done this year or for good with AU? with Caudle #2 now and Trotter waiting in the wings, what do you see for his future?
OK so who do you want to hire instead of Tuberville? Give me a valid name????
I personally think that Tuberville will get another year UNLESS he is blown out by Georgia and Alabama.
Elizabeth Banks
A "valid names", not a football coach or good choice for Auburn, but the name is valid.
Names that would be considered valid fooball coaches for Auburn would be based on who is doing the validation.
I agree with you FSJ, but based on his overall record at AU I think AU needs to make a change. I do not think one more year is going to change things. If he comes back next year and goes undefeated I'll gladly eat my crow, but I just do not see him being able to do it.
Just for the record, I think Elizabeth Banks is smokin' hot.
Tim, Tuberville may have meant lost 5 games before the UGA game. Maybe, just throwing that out there. I'll leave the looking up of those stats to you and eddie.
Re: Elizabeth Banks...
Only on days that end in Y.
That she is.
Jay, your favorite 2 hours of Auburn radio is on in a few mins.
fsj: every day ends with y
Yea. I'm not really into that strain of radio. I don't understand how a host can be so angry about a football team struggling. Never seen that before.
You should listen when PMarsh is on there. You can tell he's just frustrated with the line of questioning.
Michael:
Exactly....
I'd **entertain**her every day of the week.
His opinion of the endeavor is remarkably clear. Absolutely.
Jay/rk:
What show are y'all referring to?
Auburn Undercover radio.
The fact that Auburn fans are even debating Tuberville's future is indicative of the mediocrity Auburn fans are willing to accept. Do you think Texas, Miami, Georgia, Florida, Alabama, Nebraska, USC, LSU, Tennessee, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Notre Dame, Michigan, Penn State, Ohio State would ever consider retaining a coach that had Tuberville's record over the span of 10 years, particularly in light of the achievement of the team in seaon 10? That's the difference between a winning attitude and an inferiority complex. Bear was right when he said "I ain't never been nothin but a winner". I hate Bama but I wish Auburn had a little more of their attitude when it comes to winning.
Someone asked me today if Charlie Weis was in trouble.
God, I hope Notre Dame fires him.
Not because he's bad. I just want to see a school pay that $20+ million buyout.
Jay:
I agree....
Weiss is doing a poor job, but the contract he has is C-R-A-Z-Y.....
You guys are killing me with the get rid of CTT talk. He consistantly has Auburn in the top 20 and twice in 10 years he has us in the the top 10. I think some of you guys are asking a little much.
Since our gracious host is in the journalism business, I thought he and the rest of you might have an opinion on something that happened in the Mobile media market this week. The Mobile Press Register, in an intelligent move to market to the majority of their readers and advertisers lean their sports coverage to the West. While I do not have a problem with that from a business standpoint (I just don't buy their freakin newspapers), I did have a big problem when they chose to put the 1 thousandth picture of julio on the front page rather than the picture (of Mobile's own and buried in the center of the sports section) of Chris Evans standing with Virgil Starks on the field for senior day. You see, Chris' parents were unable to attend and he thought he would be standing alone for that photo. The area from which Chris hails is largely a rough neighborhood made up of lower income families. Many young people there do not have the luxury of a father figure and Virgil was a man that never shied away from assisting in that role. I know that bama sells their papers and Lord knows there has not been much positive to speak of when it comes to Auburn, but given the fact that Chris is from Mobile and is by all accounts a good young man, would it really kill the local newspaper business to not put julio on the front page for one d**n day? Would bama sell less car window flags? Would Auburn pick up a few more recruits in Mobile? Auburn people are normally silent, content to vent our frustrations on these blogs. I submit to you though that we are a powerful consumer group and if we all (in the Mobile area) cancelled our MPR subscriptions and/or advertisements, perhaps when our family loses someone important to the program that coverage could take julio's place on the front page (or at least a slot bigger than the Nascar race).
Not saying you're wrong, but you're effectually asking for an obituary of someone who is not well known on the front page. Well known people's deaths rarely make it to the front page. He was a great man, but news people are in the business of selling papers, and aren't very well known as chariatable when it comes to what goes where in their rag. Julio sells papers.
At least Auburn didn't get relegated like this:
In other news: Obama wins minor election
I love the Smoking Gun website...
Granted Peter (ROF) but Chris Evans is a Mobile kid who walked on at Auburn and became a starter. Its not simply that his and Virgil's picture didn't make the front page, it wasn't even the headliner on the sports section. I have lost count, but bama has been on the front page for at least two weeks straight and this was a rare opportunity for an Auburn story to take center stage. I know its a pipe-dream but college athletics is supposed to include an education. Virgil helped Auburn atheletes in that regard and I think that is more important (albeit for one day) than julio freakin jones.
If Auburn was number 1 and undefeated, and bama sucked and stuff, and the bama grades czar died and made a huge front page story, i'd be all like "wtf! such bama bias!" just saying, Virgil seems like a great guy who really influenced the kids, but I had never heard of him before this. A lot of local people die without making the front page of a sports section. I wouldn't cancel that subscription just yet.
but I don't doubt your major point, that it is very pro bama. Such is the newspaper biz in most of alabama.
You know I just love when folks say Hey lets get (name the flavor of the week coach here) we shouldn't settle for anything less. Like there are 10 to 20 Pete Carroll's around waiting to come to Auburn. So anonymous, I understand what you're saying, but ask Notre Dame, Miami, Michigan, and South Carolina about how they feel about their coaches right now. Not that they won't build their respective programs, but I don't think these "super" coaches are nearly as available as you must think. My 2¢
The HABOTN isn't.
Believe me Michael, you would if you lived here. Auburn's beat writer for them is a bama grad.
(most) anonymous' should be banhammered.
jgt, loved the link from conyers, ga. the times they are a changin' (except for in conyers, ga.
)
Auburn's beat writer for them is a bama grad.
What's your point? The fearless leader of the HOTTIE nation isn't exactly an Auburn homer.
You're right, Kris, that was poor coverage from the MPR. Poor, but typical.
Jay. Looking over the Tigers commitments for 09. Looks like some of their best players are considering bolting. Even the kids who are related to current team members. Wassup w/ that. I think TT has gotten fat and happy. He used to be know as the aggressive recruiter in the SEC. Now, if they aren't in his camp, he doesn't bother. Sounds like Bowden from years gone by. You can argue that he deserves another year and that would be true, but that would just be another year of speculation on his job. Given the unity of the AU heavy hitters now, or lack thereof, I think he has to go. We need a young guy w/ no life other than football. Someone out to prove himself.
Tim- Just noticed you called me out. Not going to respond here. You can hit me on the next thread.
Is it me, or can you hear P Marsh coughing up a lung every time we have video of a presser? I mean, geez.
