That's about all this thread needs.
Jay, can Lebo survive another year with an overall loosing record and no post season play? I know that we are in the middle of the "if you build it they (top caliber players) will come" mentality, but is Lebo the answer to our B-ball problems?
I don't think he's the answer to anything, but this team is decent enough.
How are the digs for the pressers at BEMC these days? It's been awhile (10 years or so) since I was a student volunteer with the SID, but I did not look forward to setting up for pressers in BEMC
Still a dump.
Jay, I may have missed this info somehow, but why is Rasheem Barrett not playing? Is he hurt?
Hamstring. Lebo said he can't yet assess how long Barrett will be out.
Jay G.
I really think Jeff gets all he can out of what he has on this team....
i know the last couple of years he has been snake bit on injuries, players leaving, suspensions and players being let go...
I believe if he had a good team, Jeff Lebo can coach, no doubt about that.
thanks for keeping us informed JGT. looks like it was a pretty busy day for you on the plains.
did Barrett get hurt in practice this week? if he was hurt before the last game i missed it.
so, Malzahn is going back to Tulsa tomorrow until the bowl game is over?
Jay,
What is the deal with Frankie Sullivan, he scored tonight but I havent heard much from him this year against the bigger teams. Tay Wallers name I have heard alot this year. Also Johnnie Lett, juco transfer, needs to step up to add some depth down low. Lebo is ok, he cant help no big time "clean" recruits want to come to Auburn and play in that dump. I am surprised he has won at all with the roster he had. I give him one more year, at least one in the new building.
Count me among those who think that if you teleported Lebo to a top program, he'd win like a maniac ... because he can coach.
He just can't win at Auburn because he doesn't appear to have, as Boon said in Animal House, "a morally casual attitude."
I am excited about Gus Malzahn as the OC. Now I must do in depth anaylsis and definitely watch Tulsa's bowl game. Like I say, we don't need an outstanding offense with our defense. We just need something better than inept.
I guess Jay Jacobs needs to fire the general manager of this team. That guy must be an awful talent scout.
Barrett initially injured the hamstring in practice, thought he could play, couldn't get warm in pre-game.
So now he's out.
I'm headed home.
I'm going on another short "vacation" beginning tomorrow, but I'll be keeping an eye on football stuff for the next few days.
Take care.
Clearly, recruiting isn't his strong suit--along with "selling" the program to the AU Family.
That said, I'd hate to have to try to convince a kid to come play basketball at Auburn. It does look, though that the class he has signed for next season will be by far his best, and he may have a pretty nice roster next season.
If he could just get some sort of post-season this year, he may yet finally be gaining some momentum.
It is nice to have an OC who doesn't look homeless.
If I saw Tony Franklin on the street I would....challenge him to a Kumatea(spelling)(bloodsport reference) I would be Jean Claude Van Damme, Franklin would be Oger from Revenge of the nerds, :)
Why does Knox not play more? I may have missed if he was being held out for some reason. He looked pretty athletic underneath the basket ala Kyle Davis. I don't remember he or Aihe (sp?) playing last game. It looks like there's at least more bodies to throw out there this year for playing time. The bigger guys down low could really help balance the offense if they're effective. Otherwise, it looks like we rely on the 3 pointer too much again.

Off the basketball topic for a minute...is there any chance that we can get D.Craig back as the QB coach?
Where is Brumbaugh right now?
He was on his way to a great career when he blew his knee out as a freshman, he was never the same after that.
Jay, do you have any details on what occurred between Malzahn and Nutt at Arkansas. What was the rift?
I also have read where Graham says that Malzahn would pass every down if he would let him.
As for Nutt vs. Malzahn, I think they had a disagreement over who should be quarterback and just how often they needed to run.
ZteveFC Here is part of a post by a Tulsa Native "there is a lot of talk regarding the balance of his system and I am not sure he is the one to credit for that. The balance Tulsa enjoyed was more due to the Philosophies of Todd Graham and not Malzahn. Graham has said in the past that "if it where up to Gus, they would be throwing the ball 90 percent of the time". Also, Herb Hand was the co-coordinator and was responsible for the running game and blocking schemes." I agree that kinda bothered me too.
Todd Graham was a defensive coach was he not? I don't think he had an offensive philosophy. I would imagine he had to stay that stuff about Hand considering he just promoted him to offensive coordinator. We aren't hearing all the sour grapes from the Arkansas folks.
Kathy ... I am not unhappy with the hire, I think it is great and we will be fine. I was just posting something in correlation to ZteveFC's comment. I agree that the Arkies were and are very fond of CGM. By having a fruit basket turnover of the staff I believe there will be much more "acceptation" all around.
Kathy, you are correct that Graham is a defensive guy, but he says that he likes for his offense to run plays he hates to defend against, so it appears he puts his two cents in, which I would expect a head coach to do.
SteveFC, you may not be an optimist after all as much as a contrarian, darn you!
Hahaha, well, I like what I have learned about Malzahn so far. I am not as much of an optimists as I am a realist. For instance, I say judge Chizik by what he does at Auburn. To refer to hiring Chizik as a bad hire is idiotic until he has a chance to prove himself.
I do see a lot of potential with this team, but team chemistry is key. Last season the entire team flunked chemistry.
Good morning Hotties!
and WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
I succumbed to the effects of medication immediately upon conclusion of Jay's live blogging last night. I hate I missed the lively discussion.
Does it bother anyone else that Tulsa is playing Ball St next week and then Auburn plays Ball St. in Sept?
I would really hate to see Tulsa score 70 and Auburn score a whole lot less.
Jay I jsut read all the Malzhn stuff. Thanks for the info..really nice read.
I like the hire as many AU fans do. What I really like is it seems like Kodi may get the same favortism that Franklin showed for Todd the difference being that Kodi doesn't have a dead arm. I have been in on Kodi's bandwagon since he was coming in for Brandon..he got better and I think he is the future.
-Jay, You think Kodi will be the starter next year?? I know alot can happen but at a glance he's gotta be the man right now. Right?
I just heard and read that Sen'Derrick Marks will enter the NFL draft.
I just heard and read that Sen'Derrick Marks will enter the NFL draft.
I saw the Marks article on ESPN this morning. Sorry to see him go but am not surprised. These agents are running around telling all the juniors that this is the last year to get those big rookie salaries. I suspect Coleman will go as well. Best of luck to them.
Enjoy your "vacation" Jay. Thanks for all of your EXCELLENT coverage of all things Auburn! The HABOTN Hotties really appreciate you and your family for the time consuming dedication.
I'm not surprised either, I just hate to see him go. I heard the other day, maybe Sunday, that Roger Goddell said rookies will not face a wage scale change and underclassmen should not be mislead.
Totally unrelated to Auburn football, but MaryLouise Pawlowski, our new baseball coach's daughter, is in a fight for her life this morning. She has been undergoing chemo and had her final treatment last week. Yesterday she went into septic shock and is in ICU on a ventilator. She needs our prayers right now.
She and her family will definitely be in my prayers. Thanks cincy. We love our Tigers, but this definitely puts things in perspective.
I read that too Just Win. I heard these statements were misleading and the salary cap is still 2-3 years away. They really do need to do something about those rookie salaries. They are getting ridiculous.
Who can blame S Marks for leaving, he will be a 1st or 2nd rd pick. He has always represented AU well, and I hope he makes it big in the NFL. A Coleman, I hope he comes back, but I really don't know how much he can improve his stock. Size and playing out of position for the NFL are going to be issues whether he comes back or not. Plus, I think I read that he graduated recently, so it would really not be like he was leaving early. He would just choose not to return for a 5th year. Best of luck to him also in whatever he chooses for his future.
cincy, that is terrible news on the baseball coachs' daughter. The little girl had a story in the O/A News and she has fought bravely. Will definitely pray for her and her family.
That's heartbreaking, cincy.
Sorry if it's already posted, but has anyone else read Smartfootball's take on Malzahn?
