Ramsey planning to return, but where?
Hey everyone. A trusted source in Mississippi told me a few days back that Chaz Ramsey, Auburn's injured offensive guard, was planning to resume his career at Auburn after all.
You may remember that Ramsey asked for a release before the 2008 season began. That request was granted, though former coach Tommy Tuberville said Ramsey was welcome to return.
So is Ramsey staying put? He's not saying.
"I'm still looking at my options and thinking about it," he said Friday afternoon. ``I'm enrolled at Auburn. I haven't talked to (Gene) Chizik or anything. We'll just have to see."
Ramsey started 10 games as a freshman in 2007. A back injury suffered during spring drills eventually led to surgery. He didn't play this season.

CLEARLY, YOU ARE ALL DRUNK!
Jet - no pants? nyquil at work? lmao
I love pool boys and peeled grapes and palm leaves...sigh. I should have whipped out this Wonder Woman avatar LONG ago.
Yes, Monica and TB are now BFF's. Don't hate. Congratulate.
TB,
So it was a standard day on Finescum, huh?
I'm sober...for now.
I have never heard it like that before AU. I was shocked.

Mon,
Dammit im not drunkkkkkk.... nobody knows the trouble i've been through....

I know you have the spin down also....
AUnMobile, not arguing with you I was going by rivals. They say coach whitt has visited but not chizik. They said no offer made to Moseley . I guess just differnce in web site.
Half of the 200 was you 2 flirting. Maybe you should get a room?
I was gonna say that the post is friday chatter, so we're allowed to chatter, but then I realized we moved on from that. 200 comments on a post about Chaz Ramsey that have nothing to do with mr. Ramsey. Hot Blog.
We are so gonna get a HOTTIE spankn for Daddy JayG.
ooooooooooooo is Mon and that new Avitar's fault... freakn Wonder Woman....
Jay G's on the the hottest vacations...he went shopping today, apparently.
I'm Wonder Woman, NoVa! I don't have to "get a room".
Yes, Mobile, next time I take a picture I'll make one of me with my glasses on just for you.
No Va,
I resent that remark!
we have a room its HABOTN Chat room!
Peter - I saw his comment about shopping. I have to do some of that tomorrow and Sunday. Should be big fun.
ok guys i just check the AU Jet and it landed 20mns ago at Northeast Alabama Rgnl
CGC is going to visit KK adn DK!
I did the only shopping I'll be doing tonight. It sucked. Well, I'm going to J-Crew for a new sweater tomorrow, but that's more picking up than shopping.
Dre and who?
Kendall Kelly
who are KK and DK, and which Flo-town area school do they play at?
Turbo Prop ... my 18 year old son ... and I were talking about potential linebackers for next season, particularly if Tray Blackmon returns.
How about a lineup of Eltoro, Little Ball of Hate and J-Bynes?
Does that not give you a warm feeling?
I feel like a voyeur, and that image of Mobile as a pool boy...
Must find cheerleader pictures to get that out of my head.
What sucked about the shopping? I think your future's gifts should not be from J.Crew my dear. Tiffany? Cartier?
They are teammates
Dre- DB
Kendall- WR
21 -7 Richmond over Montana 10 min. in the 4th.
Anybody got the lowdown on the Lady Tiger's game tonight? Somebody's got to have the 411...
Oh and I wish I had a tee time tomorrow, but since I haven't STARTED Christmas shopping yet, I'm being drug by the mrs. to get that done...
Wonder Women win, 65-61
Mobile isn't the pool boy! He has me a pool boy! Please keep up and stop acting so innocent. pffft
Dre Kirkpatrick - bama's man(insert Faker going on and on here about how Dre belongs to bama)
We could have an AUsome LB corp next year if Trey comes back.
It would be cool to steal some from Satan.
oooh no Coosa, no peepers here.... get you own girl!
BTW thats Biff the pool boy!
Unfortunately, Gadsden is on on the other side of the DMZ. That's North Korea, man.
Dre is with them.
I think Chiz is going to swipe a couple of Saban's boys. He's at least making a run at them.
Afraid you're right again, Jet.
Ummm...Mobile, oh drunken Mobile. That's NoVa not Coosa. LOL
No Va,
I'm the president of the Josh Bynes Fan Club....

WDE!!!!!
ok Jet and D. Miller
dont forget ot turn off the lights when you leave ok....
An clean this place up a little its looking liks a pigstigh!
I'm not good at cleaning... just as the wifey....
I am pleased to see people seem to be feeling the power of the Chiz. I am already working on a slogan for after next years Iron Bowl. My 2 million dollar coach beat up your 4 million dollar coach.
As for Ramsey, I thought there was some controversy over who would pay for his surgery or do his surgery. As usual, I can remember where I read that.
I would love to see Malzahn as the new OC. It could happen. Ever since Arkansas ran that little dude hiding behind the line trick play thingie, I liked the guy. Some of his tricks seemed very highschoolish, but if they work, I will take them.
Good night, kids.
Has anybody else seen this?
....I don't have a clue how much of it is true. A fairly reliable source who is fairly well connected to the Bama program sent it to me this morning. (My source is so well connected that Saban is in his office right this second talking to him).
Intrigue, Conspiracy and a Great Story May Have Gotten Gene Chizik a Job by Larry Burton (Analyst)
Get the popcorn, get comfortable, and let me tell you a tale. I can neither verify nor deny the authenticity of this story. However, I can verify that there are many truths in it than can be proved. That being said enjoy.
I got these facts from a buddy of mine who is not in the habit of telling tall tales. I'll just call him "Benny". Here's the tale:
Some Auburn relatives were over this past weekend, some of whom are fairly well connected to the program at Auburn and their boosters.
The night Alabama drilled Auburn 36-0, a prominent Auburn booster (not the usual bank-owning one but one who sells pressure-treated wood and wears a yellow hat) made a phone call. This may have been a $5.1 million phone call.
Since he knows most of the SEC coaches on a first-name basis and shoots ads with many of them, he has their personal private phone numbers. So he calls Houston Nutt over in Mississippi and asks what it might take to have Houston change his address again to Auburn.
Apparently, Auburn has a nasty habit of stealing coaches from Ole Miss, but Nutt tells old Yella Fella that he can't take the hit on the credibility scale right now for that kind of move, but thanks.
What many people may not know or may have forgotten is the infamous "Jet Gate"
scandal. That was where Bobby Lowder boarded a jet and flew to Louisville to offer then Head Coach Bobby Petrino the head coaching job at Auburn.
Trouble was, Auburn had a head coach who was doing a fairly good job and when word leaked out, the fans and much of administration rallied so strongly that Tuberville was bulletproof. He was now able to snub his nose to Lowder, Pat Dye, and the administration-and boosters that wanted him gone.
These were not men who took a snubbing well. They bade their time until they felt the fans would no longer be a factor. Surely Auburn missing a bowl game, being drilled by Alabama, and the whole Tony Franklin fiasco took all the aces out of Tuberville's hand.
Now here's where it gets interesting. Following "Jet Gate", Tommy had a unique non-interference clause put in his last contract. Auburn pledged that neither the school president nor athletics director or anyone acting under their authority "shall discuss or negotiate directly or indirectly Auburn's prospective employment of any other person as Head Football Coach of Auburn" without giving Tuberville prior notice.
In non-lawyerese, it basically means that if Auburn got caught monkeying around with a new coach behind Tommy's back again he gets paid-a lot.
Unfortunately for Auburn, Nutt's agent is Jimmy Sexton and that just happens to be Tuberville's agent too. Nutt drops this little nugget to Sexton and Tommy walks in the following Monday discussing his intentions to resign and wants his money now that he knows his contract has been breached.
Now Tuberville can get the money AND leave and coach elsewhere, in effect getting double pay for the next three years! A nice retirement package indeed. Plus, he gets to have the last laugh and snub the backstabbers one more time.
So maybe Auburn was right, maybe Tuberville really did resign. Why wouldn't he?
Multi-day discussions ensued, and I'm sure there were lawyers involved. I'm sure it was painfully explained that old Yella Fella could and would be legally held to be an "official booster" much to the dismay of Auburn and the bad boy boosters.
In the end, we see Tuberville's official resignation on December 3 and Auburn paying him the buyout anyway because according to Auburn, it "is the right thing to do."
Yes, it's the right thing under the contract. Otherwise, who pays buyouts for resignations, right?
Now, guess who Gene Chizik's agent is? Ding Ding Ding! You are right if you guessed Jimmy Sexton. Now, how does Auburn keep "Jet Gate II" from hitting the front of ESPN in an embarrassing manner? The fans would simply go mad.
Hmmm, perhaps by hiring a Sexton client who needs to get out of his personal football coaching hell known as Iowa State? How else is he going to go anywhere with that 5-19 record?
So, Tuberville walks away with $5.1 million and change and the right to sign another big contract with another team, Nutt gets a nice salary bump and an extension when Ole Miss gets wind of their coach being dangled some bait, and Chiznik gets a big salary increase and a chance from jump a sinking ship into a head coaching job at a big time SEC school.
And Sexton makes almost a million dollars in new commissions off the three new deals. This seems to explain the inexplicable way in which this all went down.
Will we ever know? Not until Jimmy Sexton writes his tell all book, "Tales of the Super Sports Agent." But it's the best version I've heard so far.
Jet, your earlier account of my reaction was pretty accurate. Do you have cameras in my house? I really thought my turtle-wife story pulled the heart strings necessary to win Hottie of the Week.
I want this to stay in my heart and keep hurt, because this is gonna motivate me personally and I believe everyone else, sisters, wives, brothers, neighbors, to never let something like this happen again.
And I just want to say one thing... to the fans and everyone in Michael Nation... I'm sorry. I'm extremely sorry. I wanted to win every Hottie of the Week award ever to be given. That was my goal. It's something a Hottie has never done here. But I promise you one thing: a lot of good will come out of this. You have never seen any Hottie in the entire country post as hard as I will post for the rest of my life. God bless.
I think Ramsey was still in the dog house for his chop block. I also think that he felt he could play with his back and the staff refused to let him. Rivals has Eltoro as a 3 star and Scout has him as a 5 star. I have subscribed to Scout and Rivals but I finally dropped Rivals this year.
mon--love the avatar (linda carter, who played wonder woman actually fished a guy out of the potomac). michael--we only have eyes for you (not ayes, just eyes). strange that it's going to be warmer there than here. i do golf regularly--just not well. i did par the same hole at match play course that t. woods parred. i 2 putted a 10 foot put. he 2 putted a 40 foot put. not quite shorts weather out here (for me), low 60s.
War Eagle!
J....... I believe you hit the nail on the head.
J...I also believe this is probably how it went down. If this is the case, I don't like the meddling by Yella Fella, but it sure smells better than the racist reasoning behind it all. I can accept this more knowing that Auburn had it's hands tied to make this hire!!!
j, that story is old news and full of wholes. The most obvious being that if Tuberville was going in to resign on Monday, why did he send out his recruiters. A couple of hours before Tuberville resigned on Wednesday, Tuberville sent a message to Nall saying it looked like everything was going to work out. Also, the idea that the contact by a board member with someone at Ole Miss would have triggered the clause in Tuberville's contract is false. Read the thing yourself. It says the President, Athletic Director, or their representatives, which the BOT is not. It is much to do about nothing and a story that has been around for a while now.
cough, cough...
unidentified/named sources...
th ap is reporting that coach pr is now hc at isu. that was quick.
So, JD, are you debunking j's post as well?
Where is the link for PR to ISU?
that was pretty quick for ISU to jump on Paul Rhodes. he's originally from Iowa so it makes some sense.
http://www.cbs42.com/sports/36491899.html
Peter F
James Gandolfini was in Crimson Tide, submarine movie. We should still hate on him for being in anything that is remotely connected to bammer.
i have never watched that movie and never will. ever.
Found the link. Looks pretty solid. Looks PR landed on his feet.
Good for Rhoads.
Agreed, Jet. I hope he does well there.
So, Jet, what do you think of the story that j posted?
Now, we can go ahead and assemble my dream team on the defensive staff ...
Chuck Norris -- DC and LB coach
Rodney Garner -- AHC/DL line coach
Joe Whitt, Jr. -- DE coach
Jeff Koonz -- DB coach (because Chiz ought to have at least one BBQ boy)
Luv ...
Dunno. Maybe so.
Here's what I think.
a. Tommy didn't want to coach any more, and wanted the money.
b. Muschamp was the choice a year ago when Tommy was or wasn't dancing with A&M and Arkansas.
c. Muschamp was the true choice this year, and likely got close to a deal, but the Jacobs relationship was the road block.
d. The plan was "The Blues Brothers" scenario you're seeing now -- putting the band back together.
e. When Muschamp wasn't available, there were two choices -- scrap the plan, or tweak it.
f. Auburn chose tweak with the guy it would have gladly chosen three years ago -- Chizik.
It's one of two things ... it's either Sexton is smarter than everybody (and he may very well be), or Auburn had a distinct plan and executed to the extent it could (following Gogue's mandates regarding the search and Muschamp's decision to stay put). Plan Bs w/i the scope of a front door search don't work well.
Personally, I can live w/ the result after I got over the disappointment of no Muschamp, who was clearly my favored candidate.
Sorry for the length of the post.
Chuck Norris would be a helluva recruiter!
Jet, I can live with Chizik too. I'm excited to see what he can do with the program. I just hope he chooses his assistants carefully. I think the story that j posted is the most plausible we've heard. NO corporation is just going to give away over $5 million away just because "it's the right thing to do."
oops...should have previewed my post
LUv ... it's probably layers of a lot of things, including some of what was posted.
It could have been the last card played, so to speak. AU wants him to quit with a reduced buyout, asks for a plan since he's going to stay, there is no plan, then AU gets ready to throw him to the PR wolves, then Tubs plays the card. It's certainly plausible.
I think my outline was in play to a certain extent.
i just listened to CGC's entire press conference in its entirety for the first time. i think i'm finally ready to turn the page and jump on board the Chizzle-train. sorry it took me so long.
WDE!
That is hilarious to me.
Rhoads to Iowa State.
Awesome.
Jet, of course your outline was in play, to a large extent, I'm sure!
well, if you believe CGC it shouldn't be so bad for CPR. i mean, years 1 and 2 of the rebuilding plan are in place. year 3 should yield immediate results at Iowa State, right? :)
Tubs got paid so he wouldn't sue....and so he won't write a book in the future. The book would yield $5.1 mil from sales to Bammers alone.
The "J" scenerio is close.
What it doesn't explain is why JJ was caught off guard and why CTT was under the impression that he was going to be at AU when he told Nall to get on the plane.
It's too bad, b/c if the book had got written...AU would take a huge PR hit....and THEN get rid of the cancer. We will never be healthy until we get rid of the cancer.
Scottie - How was your fancy party?
Jay,
I have been busy reading your Auburn Blogger for a few weeks now. I remember a while back I had sent you an email questioning your loyalty to AU, I am sure you do not remember. I would just like to take this time to apologize, because i is vey clear to me that you are ALL AUBURN! Thanks you for HABOTN. Nice Work!!!!
