Auburn def. Georgia, 65-59

SUNDAY AFTERNOON
Post No 1,066

Hey everyone. Welcome to Beard-Eaves Memorial Coliseum, where your Auburn Tigers are playing host to the Georgia Bulldogs.

  • HABOTN PLAYER OF THE GAME®
    C Trevesha Jackson, 10 points, 2 rebounds
Numbers weren't her contribution. Without Jackson on the floor, Georgia's Angel Robinson was nearly unstoppable. When Jackson subbed in (she is struggling with pain in her left knee) Robinson was far more subdued. That development changed the game.

  • FINAL
Auburn wins, 65-59. The Tigers now have a one-game lead over Vanderbilt with one game to go.

  • FOURTH TO @ 0:56, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 56-53. Vanderbilt lost at Ole Miss earlier today, so the Tigers move into first place with a win here. I wonder if the players know that. Chantel Hilliard is out with a knee injury. Looked serious.

  • THIRD TO @ 7:32, 2nd half
Georgia leads, 47-46. Auburn was up four points and Smalley fired an open three. She missed. The Bulldogs then went on a 7-0 run. That could have been a clinching turn of events for the Tigers. Instead, Georgia is right in the middle of this thing.

  • SECOND TO @ 12:33, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 40-38. Same trends. DeWanna Bonner hasn't been a big force in this game yet. Is she going to change that?

  • FIRST TO @ 15:27, 2nd half
Auburn leads, 38-35. Auburn has scored on five of its first eight possessions and Smalley is at the line for the ninth. Better offensive flow from the home team. Angel Robinson already has two put-backs this half.

  • HALFTIME NUMBER OF NOTE: Auburn shot 32.4% in the first half.

    Halftime entertainment: ZOOPERSTARS

  • HALFTIME
Georgia leads, 29-27. Considering how poorly Auburn is shooting, the Bulldogs can't be happy with this score. Angel Robinson is a problem I don't think the Tigers can or will mitigate.

  • FOURTH TO @ 3:59
Georgia leads, 22-18. Auburn is shooting very poorly. Not sure of the percentages right now. I'd say they're in the 33-percent range. It looks like the usual array of shots, honestly. Georgia has a major advantage inside -- not necessarily on just size. Those girls are skilled.

  • THIRD TO @ 7:48
Georgia leads, 17-16. Both teams are playing at a higher level now. Hilliard is in for good, it seems, because Trevesha Jackson is out with what appears to be a calf or quadriceps strain. That's an issue because Auburn doesn't really have anyone to guard Georgia's Angel Robinson in the post.

  • SECOND TO @ 10:48
Georgia leads, 13-10. Auburn went through a 4-minute stretch without a bucket. Good shots not falling. Georgia's defense is pretty aggressive with the man-to-man. I'm not seeing the same kind of cunning I'd expect from Whitney Boddie. Seems more tentative than usual. I'm surprised to see Chantel Hilliard in so early. That must be Fortner sending a message.

  • FIRST TO @ 15:40
Tied at 7. Bonner has scored all seven of Auburn's points. Tigers have rebounded well. Shooting appears to be an issue.

  • YOUR AUBURN STARTERS:
PG -- Whitney Boddie of Florence, Ala.
SG -- Allison "Alli" Smalley of Arab, Ala.
SF -- Sherell Hobbs of Huntsville, Ala.
"PF" -- DeWanna Bonner of Fairfield, Ala.
C -- Trevesha Jackson of Auburn, Ala.

I am wondering if the next Big Love will be the final episode. Henrickson goes postal. The end.

bow9den, in the past you can buy tickets the day of the game for around $5. Not sure if Chizik and co will change this or not. I enjoy the laid-back feel of A-Day , but the game itself stinks.

And Big Love is starting to remind me of a MASH episode. I am thinking of the one with Klinger's letter home. Half the family dying. The other half pregnant.

JGT, thanks for the schedule update. I am getting into women's basketball for the first time, ever.

To tell you the truth, I had nearly given up basketball all together. During our 8 year sojourn in Louisville (Denny Crum years of 81-89), I watched quite often but I miss the days of solid shooting. I am not fond of flying elbows, sleeve tats, and traveling.

The Lady Tigers, however, have proved most entertaining.

Funny, AUMom! I posted after you.

My daughter read the books first. Got me to read them this past summer. Was at the midnight party at Barnes&Noble for the last book. Got the audios at Christmas so my husband could listen to them. My daughter even changed her personalized tag to "TWILGHT".

9:54 PM
Blogger Monica said...

I've considered caving to the Twilight pressure, but I'm not a vampire enthusiast. They certainly seem to have mass appeal.

You're a Barb man? I'm impressed.

Blogger AUfan said...

Kathy & AU Mom, my daughter and wife have both read the Twilight series and loved them. Then my wife shared them with co-workers. I didn't realize how popular those books were. Then, they went to the midnight showing when the movie opened. They said it was packed.

9:57 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

I was at the midnight showing of the movie too!

Monica, you don't have to be a vampire enthusiast to enjoy them. The 3rd book was my favorite.

Monica, the penalty for polygamy is having more than one wife. That isn't for me. As a matter of fact, I was just telling someone that the next woman I want to marry, I am just going to send a check for $10,000 and ask if we can just be friends. Women are too darn expensive.

10:20 PM
Blogger Miller said...

the trick is... marry one that is or will make more than you... then let her support your golf habit...

10:22 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

D. Miller, Big Love is probably chick flick material, but I am hooked. A man, his three wives and more twists and turns than you can imagine. Fantastic writing and character development. The main reason I hold onto HBO.

10:23 PM
Blogger Miller said...

unless they somehow keep each other smiling :)

10:25 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

This conversation makes me think...

I agree on the three wives thing...thats alot of griping..

10:26 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

If anything, Big Love is a good example of why you would never want more than one wife. Besides, as a wife, Nikkie and Margie would really get on my nerves.

10:27 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

God made it clear that it should be one man and one woman. I once considered 4 women the perfect number since each could have their own week to have their woman time, but God plays an evil trick. He adjust things so that the womanly visits all come at once. Sure, I could have multiple wives. I will do that right after my do it yourself lobotomy kit arrives.

10:29 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

They are usually closer to fighting than smiling, but anything is possible. Would they move it to Cinemax for FSJ if that happened?

10:29 PM
Blogger Miller said...

are all 3 at least hot?

10:29 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Hot? Only the oldest wife it particularly hot. The youngest is cute. The middle one might be attractive, except she has always got this look on her face that would spoil milk. That look could take out Tracy Rocker.

Needless to say, the best TV series are on HBO and Showtime. If you haven't watched Dexter, you should. If you have HBO but not Showtime, watch 6 feet under. Michael C. Hall plays the gay mortician and he is great playing Dexter the serial killer on Showtime.

10:33 PM
Blogger AUfan said...

D. Miller, that is an interesting question. In my opinion Barb and Margene are hot, but they aren't that impossible, perfect hot. Nikki, not so hot in my mind, but she always has her hair fixed in that polygamist style, plus she dresses the same way. I like the fact they didn't pick the perfect Barbie-doll types to be the wives.

10:35 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

And as for being a chick flick, Entourage makes Big Love look like a Rambo movie. Entourage is one of the biggest chick flicks around. Big Love is like the mormon Sorpranos or something.

Californication on Showtime is watchable, but it is definitely a chick flick too. They are considerate and throw in a couple of boobs occasionally to keep their male audience.

I disagree. God loves each us of so much and He wants us to be happy and fulfilled. If the man/woman that we are with is making us miserable and both parties have tried everything to make it work, He would want us to end the relationship. And the second part of that statement??? Heaven is going to be awesome no matter what.
