HABOTN FAQ (first edition)

Feel free to make additions.

HABOTN FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Why is this the "HABOTN"?
It's the Hottest Auburn Blog on The Net®. I was searching for a name that would distinguish our community from others that aspire to be this awesome. Dubbing it the hottest seemed interesting -- and the assertion can't be debunked. Try it.

When was the launch date?

March 1, 2006. Nobody attended.

Where are you located?
I live in Montgomery, Ala., and I cover Auburn for the Montgomery Advertiser. It's a newspaper.

Who pays you to blog?
I can't answer that.

Why is this free?
Because there is no payment involved.

What is "The Ring of Fire"?
Only the best and most veteran commenters qualify for the RoF, which is the highest level of the HABOTN hall of fame. We also recognize up-and-coming posters with "Feeling The Heat" and "Notable Newcomers" categories.

How do I get into the hall of fame?

One must be a frequent HABOTN visitor and somehow add to the site.

What about Michael? He makes no sense.
He doesn't make sense to you. He makes perfect sense to me.

Why is Dear Leader so good at making the first post to each thread?

It's one of life's great mysteries.

What is a "campfire"?
That's our term for live chats. We hold them at least once per week during the football season; every few weeks during other times of the year.

What is "puppet hour"?

It's the time of the day where a few of the more nonsensical HOTTIES gather and talk any number of off-topic subjects, such as puppets or cheerleading or any other non-sports related subject. Though the official time frame is 4-5 pm every weekday, a Puppet Hour can naturally occur at any point. Puppet Hour received its name due to the hatred and fear of puppets shared by the participants in the early days of these gatherings. Michael and Harrison often mitigate/fuel these discussions.

What is a "BANHAMMER"?
It's a large, golden sledgehammer use to punish annoying campfire particpants. I generally drop the BANHAMMER, though a few selected HOTTIES have been entrusted with the mighty weapon.

Why have you disabled anonymous posting?
We like our little enclave. We don't like the nastiness that has troubled many other sites in the Blogosphere. Anonymous posting is a conduit for much of that nastiness. Therefore, Einstein was right.

Why do people make references to Jay going to ESPN?
Jay has no comment on that matter. If a deal has been offered, he has not seen it. He communicates with his financial adviser periodically and promises swift dissemination of any information regarding his job status.

Where is the HABOTN swag?
It's in my drawer. And lots of other drawers. We sold HABOTN t-shirts during the 2008 football season, more than 100 of them, and they're now off the market. We expect to see them in the National Blog Hall of Fame one day. We may make more someday. Or not. Only one HABOTN hoodie exists.

IN Montgomery ...

I love Jubilee.

I love Tony's Pizza and Corsino's

And I enjoy the white table cloth places (City Grill, Vintage Year and Garrett's) on someone else's dime or for very special occasions.

I agree, the service leaves a bit to be desired... however, the food is pretty good.

I too love Jubilee... don't get to go often though.
The Pub is another of my favorites.
I'd love to try Garrett's.... haven't had the opportunity, yet.

Npe, they're not, RK. They're young, though, and have a good bit of talent. Some really strong bats.

The bullpen is the weak spot, but has potential. There have been some really good innings pitched this year by them, but they can't seem to get it together. I think the biggest need is a middle reliever that can come into a sketchy situation, calm everything down, and take care of business. Nobody has stepped up yet when the starters get in trouble late.

Despite some shaky innings (like tonight), I think (S)Grant Dayton is a stud, and (RS-F)John Luke Jacobs looks like he has the stuff to make it if he can continue developing. (F) Zach Blatt should be the dominant closer of the future. If they can get another of the young pitchers comfortable in a starting role, and build some middle relief, the pitching should be decent in 2010 and 2011 (providing they all stay and graduate). Add all of the young bats that are making noise now, and Pawlowski might just have a good ballclub coming up.

10:18 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

I agree.....Grant to Bama means BD stays at UF.

Anderson was my first choice...but Grant was #2 on my list.

As of this date, it looks like a very good hire.

I woke up at 4 a.m. in a panic, realizing i had left some notes at the office. So I recreated them ... then left at 6:45 for Gulf Shores for a 10:30 meeting. Got home at 5 ... cooked dinner, and been charming to the Appendage.

Put simply, I'm tired, and going to bed.

I started when I was 6'4" 255. I competed in weightlifting events for several years and decided it was time to lose the weight. A friend and I decided to do a marathon and trained for 16 weeks and we finished. The weight stayed off and kept running. Now i run so i can eat what i want when i want. If you have a partner, it is not nearly as boring. I use an ipod when no one can run with me. that is very boring.

Boston Legal? Yes. Denny Crane. Name's on the door.

WTC is an irritation -- I mean, inspiration -- to middle-aged guys everywhere.

Funny story: Stewardess is big fan of the Twilight series. Bought DVD on first day. Appendage came on last night, and she made him watch. He didn't look excited.

Turbo grabs a piece of paper, sketches out something quickly walks up to Appendage and says, "It's a backbone. Get one."

10:13 AM
Blogger j-z said...

Ok...help me remember the chronology of "Kicker on a Stick." Seems to me it started when we were discussing the necessity of Auburn dumping the locked arms marching into the stadium schtick.

The suggestion was made by Jet, I believe, that we solve two problems at once by having the captains sprint out on to the field carrying the crappiest of our kickers impaled on a stick to plant at midfield immediately prior to the coin toss.

El Toro Freeman then comes sprinting out of the tunnel while the band plays a spirited version of Rage Against the Machine's "Killing in the Name of". The Bull then crosses the field and sets the opposing team's mascot on fire and proceeds to have relations with the flaming carcass in front of the horrified visiting fans.

That sound about right? If that's not shock and awe, I'm Ernest T. Bass. Which according to the Facebook quiz I took last night, I am.

FAQ entry for Tim

Tim - name given to any guest of the blog or Campfire who attempts to remain anonymous. Currently, the actions of some anonymous guests have caused the current ban of all anonymous comments on the blog. However, Tim is still free to speak his mind at the Campfire. Some Hotties actually believe every anonymous comment has been posted by Tim, while others just use the name Tim to bring conversations with any anonymous guest to a more personal level.

10:50 AM
Blogger Monica said...

WOW - I'm horrified just reading that, JZ.

10:55 AM
Blogger Jet said...

J-Z's recollection of the genesis of "Kicker on a Stick" is correct. I believe I suggested a contest with the first walk-on kicker missing a kick in warmups being designated as the sacrificial kicker.

PF "came over" would be correct.

WTC ... no, I didn't go to bed before Appendage left. That ain't happenin'. Evah. (Said in Pat Dye voice, Monica)

PF,

IMO, Boston Legal is the best spin off series of all time..

ABC was stupid to cancel the show...not because of ratings but because the cast cost too much. David Kelly owned the show and wouldn't compromise on the cast. I don't blame him.

11:58 AM
Blogger Jet said...

I found the Crichton leprechaun ... oh, wait a minute ... it was just Mike Patrick.

PF/FSJ ... I will add Frazier as a Co-No. 1 with Boston Legal.

Blogger wtc said...

Jet-get the household remote that controls lights, tv's , et al. and when you think it is time for the appendage to leave, you can cut the TV off and turn on MORE lights from any room in the house. Stewardess will really warm up to you if that happens.
It does work however.

12:42 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Yes, I am well aware of that technique from my own courtship.

The good news ... Appendage lives in Prattvegas, which hastens departure by another 30-40 minutes.

Wonder how practice is going -- went -- today.

Cobra surfaced over at AU Undercover over the last couple weeks (in his true form - Salsa_Shark).

After several days of ridiculousness, he was dispatched into eternal darkness. He was also mercilessly mocked on the Tuesday edition of The Gridiron Breakdown.

1:51 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Monica, to answer your questions, I would vote for a change at that position. However, that will occur naturally because Anthony Grant is for real and will dispatch of Lebo as a rival quickly.

1:52 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Forgive the length.

Ok ... am I still off the Lebo bandwagon? Season's over ... so ... I'm back on the Lebo bandwagon (where I secretly was all along).

If he leaves, I'll be disappointed ... because he didn't turn it around the way I expected and disappointed that he left because I think we're close.

Not sure where'd we turn at this point for a new coach. You could bet your sweet bippy that the Turner Gill yap would start back up, and we just don't need that right now. Lebo knows this, and might use VCU to yank us around a little. Maybe he just wants to go.

Personally, I hope he stays ... says ain't going anywhere ... looking forward to the new arena, etc.

1:52 PM

From the sounds emanating from upstairs, the afternoon naps taken by Mrs. Gatiger and the cub are now over. This means my time here is now over for awhile.

Peace out hotties. Think of me in the morning tomorrow as I run many, many miles in downtown ATL.

They even had a box at the door for each guest to pack cupcakes amde like the cake. different flavors.
Mother of the bride has a bakery in town. I have been buying cakes from her for years and never put them together.

Tiger-I am going to run about 5 miles in about 30 mniutes. We are putting on a dinner for several highschoolers (my daugher) for their pre-prom meal.

2:43 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I can't believe I am doing that. the appendage needs to fork out money like I had to when I was dating. My wife keeps asking me to give him money to take my daughter out. (that's whacked)

2:44 PM
Blogger Monica said...

That's a no, right?

2:44 PM
Blogger Monica said...

That's what you get for not sending me cake!

2:45 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

What?

I worked all year to be able to treat my date to a nice prom night. If only I had known some other girl's mother would insist that I be given money, my date would have been left at home alone.

2:46 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Am financing Turbo and TurboDate pre-prom dinner tonight ...although her parents offered to pay her share. Won't stand for that. Even if it is $50 a head at the CCC.

Appendage, in future, will be expected to finance dating ventures. That's the way it works in my mind.

I have had a talk with all involved that I am not paying someone to date my daughter.
Jet-several parents wanted to have the dinner and I got caught up in it. I too would help with daughters portion. It does seem that he is often here and going out to dinner with us. More than I wish.

two weeks ago he as here for the day and went through a gallon of milk. when he came back a few days later he brought his own milk.

BYOM, I love it.

I've said "Hello" to Appendage ... "How are you?" ... "Have another burger."

Never more than five or six syllables. That's about it. He's scared to death of me. I want it that way.

I talk to Turbo's GF as if she's my daughter in front of him.

3:10 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Mon-I like children, but when it is time to 'man up' it is time. if you can't afford to date you either need a job or no date.

BTW, he is a freshman at AU.

Blogger wtc said...

He got the evil eye when his order at dinner was more expensive than mine. I was just raised different I guess.

wife is good friends with his family. I 've met them, but do not want them as buddies.

WTC - I hope you didn't interpret anything I said as a defense the appendage. I was saying I'm glad I don't have kids so that I don't have to deal with the issues you parents have.

Your appendage is in COLLEGE and accepting money from YOU? Why is that ok with your daughter? I would so not be ok with my bf taking money from my Dad. And if he did I'd recommend he use the money as a down payment on a pair.

3:24 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Thankfully ...

With 15 y.o. Stewardess just having her first BF ... and he's just a 16 yo ... no issues yet except Daddy ain't real fired up about somebody courtin' his lil' sweetie.

As for Turbo, he's been advised that if he messes up, I don't know him. For the most part, he's behaved.

3:28 PM
Blogger Jet said...

I'm thinking about the Anton Chigurh coin flip for Appendage's next visit.

3:30 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I didn't take it as anything bad. We're cool.

I agree with you on the money thing. He doesn't ask, my wife just tries to sneak him some. She and my daughter are HIGH maintenance.

Many kids today are lazy and will not work for anything. I believe they get what they work for. No work, means you can't have much of anything that costs money.

i'm probably old fashion.

3:31 PM
Blogger wtc said...

My future father-in-law has taken good care of me over the last 6 years, so I guess I can't be outraged. I got yelled at the first time I took out my wallet, though, and have always expressed my appreciation for his kindness. Our dynamic is a little different, though. We go travel to college football games together, I've worked for him, and I text him as much as my fiance. I'm a cool appendage. :-)

Auburn up 2-1 after 2 innings, due to a 2 run homer by Brian Fletcher. John Luke Jacobs had a rougher inning. Gave up 3 hits and a walk, but got out with only 1 ER. 3 Ks in 2 innings pitched so far.

Captain, the ship is still taking on water! No sir, it is not a good idea to wait for all of the ocean's water to get in our boat and then just jump out onto the dry land that will appear. That is a horrible idea! How did you become the captain, anyway?!!

Son, there are two kinds of people in this world. One kind can be described a certain way, and the other kind can be described the exact same way except with the word "not" inserted at some point in the definition.

Honey, for the last time, when I agreed to be a part of this relationship, I had no idea you would have some sort of silly rule about how I can't inhale helium in the middle of our arguments. If we are going to be mad at each other, can't I at least argue with a funny voice? Fine, leave, I've got my balloons, and that's all I need.
