Daily update, 3/25

Hey everyone. Thanks for making yesterday a nice traffic day here at the HABOTN, where spring football took top billing. Judging from how the basketball team finished its game last night, football was the right choice.

So what do we have today?

Let's go through what a few other Auburn peeps had to say about the team's first practice. Before you ask, the team is scheduled to practice again on Thursday afternoon. Gene Chizik told me last night that he will not practice in the indoor facility -- "We're not going to hold any glorified walk-throughs during the spring," he said -- and thunderstorms are expected to take hold today. Rain chances around here are 75% each day through Saturday.

Keep that in mind.

TROOPER TAYLOR SPEAKS
  • On practice: "It was organized, the guys knew where to go, they understood what each horn meant, so that's a big thing. Just learning how to practice is just as big as getting out there and doing X's and O's.

  • On his willingness to make players to pushups during practice (as you saw in yesterday's video): "I was taught a long time ago whatever you tolerate or accept, you encourage. Dropped balls, turnovers, stupid penalties will not be accepted at Auburn University. Those receivers know that after today. It's a point of emphasis to me. You have to get what you emphasize. What they do with the ball after the catch, that's why you sign them. That's called NLI - national letter of intent. But teaching the fundamentals, how to take care of the football, how to practice, how to win, and try to practice like a game. That's what I was trying to emphasize out there."

TOMMY TROTT SPEAKS
  • On his physical situation: "I was ahead of schedule big time. I think right now I'm probably where I need to be. We backed off a little bit. It was hurting me a little bit. Slowed it down. They took out that patella tendon, so just that pressure on the knee from where that used to be, it started giving me trouble, got a little tendinitis in there."

  • On what he's hoping to accomplish right now: "I've been watching. There are little drills I can do. Little get off the line drills, work on your releases. They don't want me to be involved in any contact at this point. It's not ready for contact, ready to be messing with going this way and that way. They don't want me making 100 percent cuts. They don't want me coming out of a dig route or anything like that on the left knee."

IN OTHER NEWS
The real-word HABOTN reference keep coming. Here we have Tab, an official HOTTIE, reppin' the blog at the recent Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook Off in Birmingham. This is the Alagasco crew, which won the "people's choice" award for their southwestern chowder.

Thanks, Tab!

if past performance in any indication of future success, the DBs should be able to allow the D to blitz much more effectively without getting burned by the deep ball.

it is also exciting to see a WR coach that knows what he is doing and expect his players to catch the ball instead of being 190 lb offensive linemen.

I'm not a recruiting agonizer BUT, Scout has just issued their top 300 recruits for 2010. AU is not listed by very many recruits and definitely less than previous years. It's still early, but the infidels are listed by many recruits. We've got to turn that around. We are listed by only 1 of the top 30 OT.

You'll have to cut and paste this link.

Trooper's got the right idea. Practice proper fundamentals everytime you are near a football.

I hated to see our WR warmups last year wherein the WRs caught the ball off their chest, while the coach was standing there watching and joking with the players.

In HS, the coach made WRs run bleachers b/c they caught a TD without extending their hands......

Get 'em Trooper........no tolerance for lazy fundamentals.

So, Trott's out temporarily, McKenzie's out temporarily, Slusher is done, and Vance Smith moved to OL. Do we have any TE's practicing?
Maybe the better question is, Do we need any TE's in the new offense?

Plus my doctor and surgeon said everyone responds different to it, some say it depends on your rehab, your body and some say its just a crap shoot at times, Donovan McNabb he came back like crazy from his but he had like 9 trainers and 8 hours a day to work on it. Trott should be fine, I worry about little Pierre though, his speed will take awhile to get back.

Also 2 recruiting notes.

Word from my hometown of Dothan,AL, the BJ Chitty kid who comitted last year and then decomitted, is still 75% Auburn, word is he just realized that he should play the recruit game let people kiss his rear for a year, i guess i cant blame him but its annoying as hell. He wont play QB, as in HS, but can play WR at 6'3.

Also, WR in Mobile, Solomon Patton works at the gym I go to, good kid, real quiet, said he likes Auburn(note he brought it up due to my shirt(Auburn) not me) :) said he has a visit planned and likes the new staff alot, he said alot twice.

Ok thats all i have back to work..

D. Miller, I could be way off, but blue-line is a general term for a creek classification, not a specific name. They have water flowing year-round and are marked with a blue line on a topographic map. They are usually controlled by gov. agencies and have limits in place for nearby development.

With that said, there could very well be a Blue Line Creek in Phoenix City and I'm telling you stuff that is elementary to you.

I tried to save a dude's calf the other day. I was driving south on 231 from the Gump, and came upon a calf wandering by the roadside. I pulled into the driveway that appeared to be to the farmhouse for that field and knocked on the door to let them know they had a calf loose, but they didn't answer the door. I hope it didn't die or get wrangled by all of those calf thieves in the area.

I had seen a dead horse a few miles prior that appeared to have been run over. The cops were talking to some guys on horseback at a house just up the hill. What the heck was up with all of the loose livestock around there? Mend those fences, boys!

Needless to say, US-231 was way more interesting that I-75.

My only quibble is Savage at CB. I'm not sure about that. Chizik was non-committal about Savage's position yesterday.

Who would you rather start: Thorpe at CB or McNeil at S?

I'd go with Thorpe at CB, start Savage at S and move McNeil into a reserve role.

Jay G ...

Where are you on the important calf implant issue? Does this require stem cells?

4:15 PM

Ehyou,
Yeah, I thought about that as well, because I'm not familiar with a Blue Line creek in Phenix City. I know Uchee creek and Mill creek and the sort... But, there are many small tribs that are unnamed on county maps, I guess I figured the city engineer knew more than me... He just didn't give me a location.
Not exactly sure what he wanted me to do about it anyway... Mass wasting happens.

4:19 PM

If I remember correctly Chizik recruited Savage to AU to play safety.
My guess is that he ends up at safety, as long as depth allows.

I agree about Savage at safety with the way Etheridge and McNeil played last year, we are going to need some depth there. Arrested Development had a Soap-esque quality, if you liked Soap.

I watched Arrested Development sporadically during its initial run. but those were the days before I had DVR, so I can't say I watched much of anything all that consistently. I need to rent those DVDs one day.

digger - Puppet Hour has been down lately. I must admit I have been too busy at work to make the hard pushes with the likes of Harrison and the rest of the goons form the 4-5:00 hour.

While I refuse to pay for premium channels, I've heard that if you like AD, you'll like Curb Your Enthusiasm. Evidently some similarities.

I am convinced the only show worth watching on today is Dog the Bounty Hunter.

Isn't Dog in jail or something?

It's a drama that I can't keep up with.

The funniest AD moment I can remember: A 30 something guy and his 18 yo cousin get up to sing karaoke together. He says "Just play the first song". It was Afternoon Delight.

Digger...Michael intiated Puppet Hour months ago and has been joined by many comrades.

My work slows around 6 pm EDT and I normally peruse the posts to enjoy a laff or 2 at the end of the day.

Any attempt by me to join the humor would be lame.

J-Z, I put my money on TurboProp.

This is what he said last night.

"If Alabama were lying there on the side of the road, shot in the kneecap, I would shoot it in the other kneecap, then pistol whip it in the face for good measure. I hate Alabama. Every Alabama win makes my heart sink. I hate them, and I would love to see the day where the drunken rednecks sit at home and do nothing...because the oh-so-great-tradition-university-bear-blah-blah-crap got busted for the 18,000th time."

Tonight ...

"When will the University of Satan-Earth fall? Right after I hit it for the first time in the chest with a blunt axe."

9:19 PM
Blogger j-z said...

I see no reference in there to his willingness to contract an STD to give to Bear Bryant's corpse. Therefore, I declare myself the winner. The force is strong in Turbo Prop though. When are you going to let him start posting on here?

AU1N04 - Rendezvous
michael - Beale St and BBQ
Jet - cheese and sausage at Rendezvous
BHBarry - Richard Johnson or Johnston the street performing musician

come on hotties - don't hold out on me

9:48 PM

Definitely, the sausage and cheese plate as an appetizer and ribs for the meal at Rendezvous ... it's a tradition.

I'm jealous, Hornet.

There's a girl named Sharice downtown. She changes corners frequently, but let's just say Charles Barkley would get a DUI to meet her.

Michael,

I'm married, but thankfully my wife isn't interested in shows like that.

My favorite Arrested Development moment was when Tobias was a analist and a therapist and decided to combine the jobs on his business card. I would say what it said, but I'm not sure if that would be one of those things that Jay G. doesn't want put on here just in case kids are reading.

10:18 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

1120's kinda low. I'm assuming it's out of 1600 again?

NO DROPS!!! Thank you Trooper.

I hate those knuckle-draggin', dead bear worshipping, ignorant Bammer rednecks.

10:25 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Regarding your thoughts in re UAT, amen.

It's getting highly competitive out there.

I had a 3.25 and 25 on the ACT almost 30 years ago, and that is not good enough to get into Auburn today.

Doesn't UF have something like 100,000 applicants every year now? Plus, they've got to limit freshmen enrollment because of the crazy transfer rules in Florida that allow anyone with a 2 year degree from a community college automatic admittance.

College applicants are up across the board. Pretty crazy. In another 10 years, a bachelors degree will be as meaningless as a high school diploma.

Congrats to Turbo!

10:46 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Jet-you can help with my daughter's rent and or tuition. She will also start inthe fall, but you know that already.

Anybody else that wants to can jump in also. That will give me something else to do with the college fund.

My pleasure, Miller.

Jet and I know of several that did nto get into AU this year. Most of them did get into UAT however. Lower acceptance level, for what it is worth.

Blogger Jet said...

Wide is the path that leads to destruction. Better to enter by the narrow gate.

10:50 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

Yeah, with the bright futures everyone and there mom goes to college in Florida, its not for rich kids anymore (which is a good thing). Which is while I'll continue working on my masters while I work, and then maybe a doctoral degree.

I think Florida has something like 5 of the 10 largest universities in the nation.

10:50 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Watch out, wtc. Turbo Prop might offer her room and board (on Jet's dime), and you'd have a "situation".

10:52 PM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

PF, would "relations" within the hottie community be considered incest?

10:53 PM

Easy, boys.

WTC's daughter is a fine young lady.

And Turbo is otherwise spoken for. Plus, he solely dedicated to the proposition that UAT is evil and must be eradicated.
