Daily update, 3/25
Hey everyone. Thanks for making yesterday a nice traffic day here at the HABOTN, where spring football took top billing. Judging from how the basketball team finished its game last night, football was the right choice.
So what do we have today?
Let's go through what a few other Auburn peeps had to say about the team's first practice. Before you ask, the team is scheduled to practice again on Thursday afternoon. Gene Chizik told me last night that he will not practice in the indoor facility -- "We're not going to hold any glorified walk-throughs during the spring," he said -- and thunderstorms are expected to take hold today. Rain chances around here are 75% each day through Saturday.
Keep that in mind.

The real-word HABOTN reference keep coming. Here we have Tab, an official HOTTIE, reppin' the blog at the recent Exceptional Foundation Chili Cook Off in Birmingham. This is the Alagasco crew, which won the "people's choice" award for their southwestern chowder.
Thanks, Tab!

TROOPER TAYLOR SPEAKS
- On practice: "It was organized, the guys knew where to go, they understood what each horn meant, so that's a big thing. Just learning how to practice is just as big as getting out there and doing X's and O's.
- On his willingness to make players to pushups during practice (as you saw in yesterday's video): "I was taught a long time ago whatever you tolerate or accept, you encourage. Dropped balls, turnovers, stupid penalties will not be accepted at Auburn University. Those receivers know that after today. It's a point of emphasis to me. You have to get what you emphasize. What they do with the ball after the catch, that's why you sign them. That's called NLI - national letter of intent. But teaching the fundamentals, how to take care of the football, how to practice, how to win, and try to practice like a game. That's what I was trying to emphasize out there."
TOMMY TROTT SPEAKS
- On his physical situation: "I was ahead of schedule big time. I think right now I'm probably where I need to be. We backed off a little bit. It was hurting me a little bit. Slowed it down. They took out that patella tendon, so just that pressure on the knee from where that used to be, it started giving me trouble, got a little tendinitis in there."
- On what he's hoping to accomplish right now: "I've been watching. There are little drills I can do. Little get off the line drills, work on your releases. They don't want me to be involved in any contact at this point. It's not ready for contact, ready to be messing with going this way and that way. They don't want me making 100 percent cuts. They don't want me coming out of a dig route or anything like that on the left knee."

No Drops!! Off to the port!
Any speed/tempo will be better than what we had last season. I'm just glad the WR coach is worried about our WR catching the ball instead of blocking.
As I said last night on the show, Auburn's questions this year are the same ones as last year. It will take a lot more than 15 practices to get answers, especially at quarterback.
My head tells me Kodi Burns gets the nod just based on number of snaps and experience, but I wouldn't count out someone else making a strong push. However, that line about every position is open is pure coach-speak. Tubs used that all the time. They all do.
Sure, they all use the line. But it means more coming from a new coaching staff. Obviously using the same people and folks in the same roles for this year won't do this team any favors. Even the thought of competition will bring out the best in these players. It will make them want it more and practice harder. This should translate into on the field success.
Hope you are right, Seanzie. Tempo and accuracy seem to be a focus with some skill positions and that is good.
Way back at the beginning, my daughter had 4.15 and 29 ACT and got nothing from AU but my son had 3.8 but a 31 on ACT and got a full ride! That's how much the ACT matters and how much money AU has for scholarships now. Someone told me the other day that it was too hard to get in AU and they should lower their standards and I said Why should they do that when they turn kids away everyday!!
WEG, that ACT is the key to the kingdom. Many times because Colleges believe certain high school programs inflate GPAs which is true to an extent...I graduated HS with a 4.6...but if you hit 30 or more on the ACT, that's the golden ticket.
Sean the thread killer
Never mind, I forgot I'm an hour behind.
I can tell you both that as much as that factors in acceptance and scholarships, none of that equates to success in class here.
Make sure your future students take advantage of the study resources at Auburn. I've seen the best of students in high school get chewed up here like beef jerky.
Good time management, solid study skills, and realistic expectations are the key to surviving what I call the Freshmen Cs.
Heck I'm an hour ahead. How bout I just give up today.
yeah, my daughter just graduated magna cum laude and that was having good study skills from HS
sorry, ehyou, it's hard when you have to read through 400 comments! We need some direction from our fearless leader....can't believe some stayed up until 1:30! Can't do that anymore!
All Hotties have a great and hopefully dry day! War Eagle!
Sensi, I know what you're talking about. I'm much too young to have kids going to college considering I just graduated from AU in 2007. That's the real trick, great study habits are crucial. I almost bombed out my freshman year, and by that I mean lost my ride but I managed to adjust and learn how to do it the right way.
When I went to AU, I got the max scholarship you could get, but since I lived in TN, it only covered the equivalent of waiving out of state. I thought that was weak.
Michael, you and I had the same problem.
Yeah, despite the scholarship, I will be paying for my education for the next 20 years or so.
What's it gonna take to get an invite to the next campfire?
A better Nick, for starters. Pun intended.
I am not aware of any invitations being sent out for campfires. I would, however, like to extend and invitation to you for the pants party.
Most college failures are due to lack of personal responsibility, time management and work ethic......not lack of intelligence.
My daughter is cruising with a 3.7 GPA in nursing school and is president of her sorority. Her 5-6 friends from HS that all had good HS grades have ended up back at home b/c of grades.
The kids that didn't cut it each had "helicopter parents" that did/involved everything for them and didn't teach the kids a work ethic or how to be responsible to be/do for themselves without parental inclusion.
Sorry for the speech....if you got young-uns...take note. There is now tremendous social pressure for "parental involvement/support" and many parents innocently overdo it and end up with an 18 year old child...in lieu of young adult.
Well stated, Hoopie. Can I get you to come speak to "new" parents this summer at Camp War Eagle?
Pants party? I am soooo there. Can I wear Sansabelts though?
Mt daughter is at Georgia Southern on the Hope scholly. AU withdrew the legacy program (in state in lieu of out of state tuition for kids of out of state AU grads) right before my dayghter graduated. It was going to cost $12k more per year for her to go to AU than GSU and in today's Real Estate market, that wasn't feasible. She was heartbroken for a couple of months....it's all good now.
Sensi.. I would actually do that, but I'm sure we can find someone better. If the camp is in AU and you really need it, shoot me an email and I can get local help.
Don't feel bad Hoopie, if she was really desperate to go to AU she could have taken out loans. It'd be a heckuva lot to pay back.
I don't plan on paying any more for my children's college than full tuition for an instate school. They can apply it to an out of state school if they want and take care of the difference themselves. I didn't get much from my parents, and I made it.
I read all of that from last night. Faker, why not the HABOTN Hotties.
FSJ,
How about "Ribs...for your pleasure?"
New thread up ... though it's less substantive that expected. So it goes.
