Auburn received with a Hummer

Hey everyone. Auburn's gauche splashy limousine gimmick has morphed into something more high class.

Our friends at AuburnSports.com are reporting that the Tigers' coaches, in the midst of a barnstorming tour across the state, have upgraded their transportation. The standard limousine has been replaced by a Hummer.

This whole thing seems odd to me.

Will it generate attention? You betcha.

Is it the right kind of attention? We shall see.

Truthfully, it's a bill that 90 percent want to vote for, but are scared to because they can see the ads now a year from now

"So-and-so, your state Senator, said nothing when his colleague was arrested for DUI on a Friday afternoon at 5 p.m. Not a peep.

A week later, he voted to increased the alcohol content in beer.

For safer streets, safer families and strong Alabama values, vote John Doe for state Senate."

That's the score.

Chris03, I missed the limo talk on ESPN, did you see it? I think people are missing the point. Auburn is sending "7" coaches out in a show of force. I think it only makes since that they all travel together. I don't think putting them in a van would be nearly as demonstrative as the limos. I'm just psyched that they are sending 7 on each visit.

4:48 PM
Blogger Norm said...

Jet - I guess it's because I don't live there anymore but...huh? Whatchyu talkin' 'bout Willis?

Kathy, that's a good point about sending all 7 of them. I hadn't thought of that and was having mixed feelings about the whole limo thing.

Free The Hops is the campaign for a bill that would allow boutique beers with higher alcohol content to be sold in Alabama.

The Senate Majority Leader, as referenced in my post, was arrested two Fridays ago for DUI at 5 p.m. in Birmingham.

The bill was debated Thursday, but was carried over -- which is legislaturese for killing it at this point in the session.

Oops since = sense!!!

Logistically it only makes sense that you have to rent something big to fit all those men in comfortably. They would be making fun of Auburn if they were carpooling in 2 or 3 different cars. The limo seems like a good idea to me. They are making noise because they are "scared!" These coaches aren't sitting on their hands. They are getting noticed. They are working hard. I LOVE IT!!!

The Limo Debate.

I think it's a great idea for several reasons:

1) What better way to renew and create relationships than introducing the group to various influential high school coaches at one time. This is a great way to observe which members of the staff have the best relationships with the HS coaches, in turn helping our chances of recruiting.

2) It shows that this staff is serious about recruiting and doing whatever it takes to bring talent to Auburn.

3) Regardless of what many bammers say, it's not necessarily about trying to beat bama in recruiting, but to better AU's position in the market for certain players.

4) The limo is a means of transporation. So what that it's a limo...they are traveling all around the state and who can blame them for wanting to travel in a more relaxed atmosphere? They would still be made fun of if they all crammed into a passenger van or traveled in a multiple car caravan. Plus, it couldn't hurt the impression of high school students.

5) It's gaining the university national attention. Whether you choose to believe it or not, it has been said that there's no such thing as bad publicity.

6) And the final reason why I like it is...the Bammers HATE it.

7:27 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

War Eagle groups. No mention of USCe, UGA, FSU or Bama on his site . There are a few USCe fans that are trying to plead their case to him. Forsaking my mother's wishes, I turned down UNC to attend THE ONLY school I wanted to attend, (the GREAT) AUBURN UNIVERSITY. After college I spent time in NC, GA, TX, PA (the Penguins won their only 2 Stanley Cups during the 13 months we lived in Pittsburgh), GA again, and finally back home for good about 9 years ago.

That's my opinion and how I'll be dealing with this "crisis". Feel free to follow my lead. Or not. It's all up to you (collectively speaking). After many years of marriage, I'm beginning to believe I don't rule my own house so I doubt I rule anyone else's.

Like a good hubby, I found tickets and we went (she claims I was kicking and screaming, though I recall it being one of the extraordinarily rare instances where I was thinking more of her than my own selfish self). It was AWESOME. I was so stupid I thought a musical was something like Oklahoma where they burst into corny songs for no apparent reason. I didn't realize a musical was entirely sung.
