Checking in from L.A.

Hey everyone. As I discussed in a recent thread, The Tate Family is on vacation in southern California.

(Photo taken approximately 36,000 feet above Arizona.)

Just wanted to make it clear why I was not blogging and providing the swell Auburn information you expect from the HABOTN. I'm planning to do a few Coach Spotlights this week, but I'll be working them around trips to Disneyland, the San Diego Zoo and Sunset Blvd.

Take care.

Our Big Cat Weekend is giving bama a sever case of the MMBSAL.

Fbaum is being forced to give our coaches props and recognizing that momentum (that is my word not his) is rolling Auburn's way.

Bamer's are trying to convince themselves that Trooper Taylor committed a secondary violation by announcing the players and their hometowns and positions.

It's a veritable love fest for Auburn.

i just spent 10 minutes at al.com. I can't remember the last time that happened. I feel so unclean. Do I need an exorcism?

6:37 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

the bammers are now going to counter by having demarcus milliner (nation's #1 CB) commit to them tomorrow. this will deflect the attention away from AU" BCW and the ncaa sanctions that some folks think are finally going to be announced this week against bammer for the textbook stuff. good media play by $aban if so.

7:02 PM

7:48 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

wtc, i have zero sources.

it just makes a lot of sense that $aban would have a high profile in-state recruit commit if he can. milliner had been considered a strong bammer lean for a long time and AU has been gaining recruiting momentum even though bammer has more commits.

the textbook stuff is pure speculation. the ncaa will supposedly inform bammer the day before they release the information to the media and then a press conference will be held the following day after the info is made public.

like him or not, $aban ain't no fool when i comes to using the media machine at his beck and call. what i suggested would just be a smart way to put the brakes on the recent positivity of AU and negative speculation surrounding bammer.

8:09 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Chip Chip- I subscribe to your theory.

8:13 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I read a few articles that recite the NCAA rules. We may have violated the advertising rule when we let the Toomer's rolling be known. Rolling Toomer's seems harmless enough on the surface, but I guess the rules are complicated.

I guess we can't do it again, but that one time was cool.

8:14 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

and it is on rivals.com that milliner is having a presser at school tomorrow to announce his decision to become a cousin humper over AU, LSU, UT, UGA, GT. ole miss. instead he could come play for a coach that has produced how many thorpe winners?

like folks here keep saying, it's a long way until february when he can sign the papers and it is official.

8:15 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

maybe some people serving AYCE pie during BCW that are not university officials leaked it out that toomer's was going down. it was spreading on the message boards saturday afternoon before it was officially posted by a rivals or scout or AUundercover reporter. their own forums is where they got the story from fans. and the ncaa cannot control where the press goes. there are many ways it can be explained away.

at any rate, expect a rule to be written by the ncaa over it.

8:20 PM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chip...very few recruits change their mind after holding a presser. Smooth move if $aban suggested it.

8:21 PM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

So what about Millner. It is no surprise where he is headed and it was a long shot to get him in the first place. If your an Auburn fan, you have got to be excited about what you are seeing out of this staff. I know I am.

hoop,

the ncaa and out of state media could change his mind for him if some things happen by february. but it agree highly unlikely.

if he is dumb enough to not take some official visits and eat some free steak & lobster, they may want to worry about him being smart enough to get into school. wink!

Why do the bammers let what Auburn does bother them so much? Unless UAT is doing some illegal, unscrupulus or against NCAA rules, I couldn't care less what they do.

I don't know much about NCAA rules. What "secondary violations" - if any - could Auburn have violated?

7:04 AM
Blogger Jet said...

Simple rule of thumb that applies, oh, about 99.7 percent of the time:

If they're mad, I am happy.

7:15 AM
Blogger Seanzie said...

As much as bama doesn't want to admit it because they're big brother and all that...they're absolutely obsessed wit auburn being inferior and they think they're all missionaries preaching the good news.

The irony is they laugh at us because they say all we care about is them. Funny how things work. I could not care less bout uat and their one season of relevance.

7:23 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I'm with Jet. If they are mad I am happy. Great rule of thumb.

7:28 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Jet - that rule of thumb is definitely mine too though I may bump it up to about 98.5% and it's similar to how the adults in my house feel about the thermostat. There are perhaps other parallels but I have things to do right now.

7:36 AM
Blogger wartiger said...

Morning Hotties..

Luv- Based on what I have read it looks like there is really only one rule that might have been broken. Media being at Toomers Corner. Something about not being allowed to publicize when a recruit visits. Some are also saying that Coach Taylor was announcing the recruits names (through a microphone) as if they were a part of the team but Phillip Marshall says it wasn't him and so do other sites. So I don't think that one is legit. They are only secondary violations and nothing will come out of it. It's the only way the cousin humpers can find something bad to say about the momentum being gained by these coaches.

7:49 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I just love how on Tuesday, it is still all they can talk about. And then they believe we got nothing out of it and look at $aban, he is getting a 5-Star bama lock to commit this week. Congrats on nothing I say.

The Auburn coaches are building in-roads in the state right now. It takes time, but I would be willing to bet we will when our share of them come signing day. These coaches are using all their contacts to bring in the best player to Auburn regardless of location, and trust me, bama fans are jealous about it right now.

Good morning! I don't want to change the subject from Bammer-hatin', but if anyone has knowledge of ATL schools and neighborhoods, I would appreciate an e-mail. My sister-in-law is being transferred to Ft. McPherson to work on some finance stuff until it closes in a couple of years.

Hasn't played a down of college ball yet.

I get a bit peeved when I hear of people telling these young guys how they will be NFL players. These kids are just out of high school and should be focused purely on college. It amazes me when people put what is best for these young men behind the interest of their football teams.

While we are on it, what do you all make of Vince Young (Tennessee Titans) saying if he didn't get his starting job back this year, he wants out of Tennessee?

Sensi, my thought is who wants a basket-case making a lot of money and can't make it work with one of the best coaching staffs in the NFL?

I remember VY bombed that NFL personality test...can't remember what it's called but it's starting to show why he bombed it? He'll be out of TN before the start of the season in my opinion. I've always heard Fisher is a no nonsense kinda guy...

I was rooting for Texas in that great national championship game against USC and had gained a level of respect for the guy..now he's done nothing but become a detriment to the Titans.

I agree on VY. Fisher should punt that and move on with the Titans. I love that power game up there.

wartiger, that was one of the most amazing performances I've ever seen in the championship game against USC. It's rare to see one player take over a game as he did, especially when there were so many outstanding players on the field. He was incredible.

chocolate - I can't tell you much about the area surrounding Ft. McPherson, but I'm about 35 miles NE of there if you want any information on this vicinity. Excellent school system, plenty of nice neighborhoods.

It suddenly occurred to me that all this hoopla over recruiting is actually much more. Does this feel like a team that lost 7 games last season?

I do think that the recruiting buz will also influence the players that are already on the team. Coaches can't hold practices this time of year, but players do. All of this has to excite the players about what is to come and will hopefully have them working hard to make this coming season a surprise.

By the way, I give up. I can't help but to be overly optimistic at this point.

I don't care if Trooper Taylor pulled out a Mr. Microphone and said, "Hey, Good Lookin'! We'll be back to pick you up later!"

If that's a secondary violation, and if callin' the cops to say, "Hey, there's gonna be a few folks down at Toomer's," then that strikes me was somewhere south of "I don't give a rip" on the Jet-O-Meter.

They got secondary violation envy.

We push envelopes. They pass 'em out.

Steve,

Welcome to the train. I was a late comer as well, but there's plenty of room.

Be excited. The alternative just reminds me too much of whiny Bammers.

Also, I concur that positive buzz affects momentum on a team. Look at last year. Remember that vid Jay G. posted of Ben Tate shrugging his shoulders about the offense? That sums it up right there.

There are staffs that are good in recruiting (Fulmer) and there are staffs that are good at coaching (Tuberville), but often staffs are stong in both recruiting and coaching. This staff seems to be both, at least at this point.

I am also very encouraged by Malzahn referring to Troop as the best receivers coach in the nation. Malzahn has seen the results of Troop's coaching in the spring and apparently he liked what he saw.

This team still needs a QB to rally around and no QB controversy going into the season, but I do think they will surprise someone. As for who the QB will be, Todd is the starter until I see something different. I don't believe Rollison will start. I believe Kodi is probably the second most likely starter and Caudle third. I judge based upon what I have read, so take it for what it's worth.

I think it was clear that Ben Tate was not sold on last year's offense. He mentioned in the spring that he felt Malzahn's offense would give him a better chance to make cutbacks.

Good morning from Anaheim, Calif.

I'm going to build a new Coaches Spotlight here in a second. The girls still are asleep after an 11-hour day at Disneyland on Monday.

General thoughts on Disneyland: Not as engaging as Orlando (two theme parks as opposed to three), but easier to navigate, seemingly more "cast members" floating around to answer questions and the attraction lines seemed to move much faster.

Plus, we met a cool family from Adelaide, Australia. They didn't even know there was a Disney in Florida.

Totally off sports, but I need the brutal honesty of hotties:

I know that nobody here needs counseling, BUT if you had a FRIEND or you knew ANOTHER couple who wanted counseling/therapy would you:

1. Like for that therapist to come to your home to do the therapy?

2. Pay $50 an hour out of pocket/no insurance coverage?

If you want to answer me by email I'm cool with that: monica_wareagle@yahoo.com

THANK YOU, HOTTIES!!
