Furlough, Pt. II: Day Four (Wednesday)

Hey everyone. Here we are on Wednesday, which means I'm about half-way through my unpaid furlough. Working in the newspaper business isn't exactly the most comfortable sector these days, but I like what I do and I love the HABOTN.

Just re-affirming my commitment to you.

Since this post was created before my furlough, I cannot provide any specifics about 80s Music or Auburn Beat Writer Trivia Quizzes I'm planning to upload to Facebook. That may or may not have happened. If you have the means to check those, though, I'd highly recommend it. They're (going to be) so choice.

Fight the power, damn the man, etc.

Red saucy should be spicy.
Best stew is at Sprayberry's in Newnan, Ga.

Sponge, I am liking this staff more and more each day as I learn more. Those people who thought Jacobs was an idiot for hiring the Chiz may end up feeling rather idiotic themselves.

This staff has caused the most hype I have seen at Auburn for an incoming staff. Dye's arrival would probably be second.

I like how recruiting has gone, although it is really way to early to judge. Until they sign, it doesn't mean much. I really think they screwed up with last years class with the lack of linemen, but this year they have a much better chance.

I could see us becoming competitive in the SEC with a lot of luck in terms of injuries and if we have a QB that over achieves.

Thanks to all that gave me those recommendations.

Ovechkin had several whiffs where the puck escaped his stick right as he was getting ready to shoot. I wonder if he was finally using legal stick blades for fear he may be called out on it after the Pens raised that concern in the media. Hmmmm. Probably not, but just wondering. I only know that when the puck is on his stick my fear level is totally maxed out.

Jagr once got caught with too much blade curve, so I know it's happened before.

He did whiff, like 3 times when he had open shots.

I have seen many to the bench check the bend. But not lately, I also like the delay penalty when you flip it over the wall when you are in your zone. Didn't like it last night but that is a good rule.

Old story ... joke was on me.

I was in N.O. for the Syracuse bowl game, and a group went out to Pascal's Manale Restaurant. While we were waiting on our table, we were sitting in the bar where the raw oysters were passed out like Halloween candy.

At this place, you make your own cocktail sauce, which I had never done before. It had always been pre-made.

I was standing there with a guy who now happens to be a veteran scribe from another site -- how obvious can I make it -- who was teaching me how to make my sauce. He had me put in some ketchup, some Worcestershire, and the white stuff he called crushed garlic. He said I needed a lot of the garlic for the flavor. I'm sitting there nodding my head loading it up.

Is that enough, I ask.

Naw, just a little more.

Then he says of course I'll want a little extra kick to it, so put some extra hot sauce in it.

So, am I paying attention to the elbows going around the table as a slather my oyster full of sauce and heap it on a cracker. Of course, not.

In one fell swoop, I toss in the oyster and the cracker. I am convinced the contents of my sinus cavity hit the table before I could scream from the extreme blast furnace effect that was being felt in my mouth.

Ah, oysters. Ah, New Orleans.

I was just in Colorado a couple of weeks ago. I saw grits on a breakfast menu in Aspen. I was impressed that they actually offered them, so ordered some. Worst ever!!! The best way I can describe them is a lumpy, yellow, somewhat dough-like mass. I was somewhat feeling the effects of the night before, which probably made them even worse. By the way, it is possible to like both hummus and BBQ, but probably not at the same meal.

Hummers, not Hummus!

Now that I think about it, maybe those grits were hummus-based!

water boils at lower temp in Aspen; grits need to cook longer there. At least I think that's the case.

in any event, grits belong in the South. I don't want to share them with the bark eaters of Aspen.

HEALTH ALERT

CDC Alert

The Centers for Disease Control has issued a medical alert about a
highly contagious, potentially dangerous virus that is transmitted
orally, by hand, and even electronically. This virus is called Weary
Overload Recreational Killer (WORK). If you receive WORK from your boss,
any of your colleagues, or anyone else via any means whatsoever - DO NOT
TOUCH IT. This virus will wipe out your private life completely.

If you should come into contact with WORK you should immediately leave
the premises. Take two good friends to the nearest grocery store and
purchase one or both of the antidotes - Work Isolating Neutralizer
Extract (WINE) and Bothersome Employer Elimination Rebooter (BEER). Take
the antidote repeatedly until WORK has been completely eliminated from
your system.

Well, I know we had the Hummer discussion last week, but I for one am all for multiple Hummers whenever possible. I for one don't typically require a week's recovery timeframe between Hummer discussions. Sadly, as much as I may personally be in favor of multiple Hummers, Mrs. Gatiger is adamantly against any such notion.

Her position on the Hummer issue is and will remain that the next new vehicle purchase is designated as her primary transportation and as such there will be no Hummers in the discussion.

Dang.

The guy at Zoe's was almost Mr. Cheryl Crowe a few yrs ago, that should give you an idea of his decision making skills.

What the H is hummus? I thought you guys were talking about hummaz', the slang version of hummers. Further, sometimes when we talk abot hummers, I don't think we are all on the same page.

Fav...BBQ.....Williamson Bros in Atl. Sauce is thin and spicy with lots of black pepper. I attempted to make on my own sauce for years, then quit when I tasted WB. You can buy in bottles it at Publix. Good stew and beans also.
