Furlough, Pt. II: Day Three (Tuesday)
Hey everyone. It's Day Three of my latest unpaid furlough, which Gannett hopes will help offset its challenging financial situation. As a loyal employee, I blame outside problems -- chiefly predatory lenders -- as the reason behind my company's issues.Suspension of disbelief? Perhaps.
Anyway, I am not able to blog. It's forbidden.
I have pre-loaded daily threads to pop up at 9 a.m. CDT so the conversations that make the HABOTN so delicious resume. Please don't be scared, angered or turned off my my parent company's difficulties. I'm very spendthrift.

Jet-good to se you today at the school event. Sad to see them graduate, but I know they are excited about it. It was good to see the whole Jet fleet there.

Chocolate Scott...I remember you, Schaneville, and Conrad, but not the other 2 Scotts. Then again, I was usually "warmed up" pretty well for most of the games.
WTC - I started a new plan this week which I hope will help with the pace. I met/ran with a local group this past Saturday and am pretty sure I'll be dropping them like a bad habit. They're WAY too serious and intense for me. One girl was running 40 miles on Saturday. I haven't picked the actual race yet but Charlotte is still a contender.
I enjoyed seeing Jet's pics of the day. It made me wish we'd had a campus like that when he and I were there so we could've done something similar.
Now, I'm off to the bed since the 5am run doesn't care how much I slept.
WTC - can't wait to see the pics. I know you were a big ole sappy daddy today with your baby girl getting ready to graduate! ;-)
The Alabama Senate has been locked in a filibuster all day. Since 5 p.m., a computer generated voice has been reading the General Fund budget legislation in its entirety -- with a handful of breaks for various arguin' and fussin'.
But no one has punched Lowell Barron ... yet.

I am disappointed in Anthony Mix, but since when is a 25 year old man having sex with a 15 year old kid a misdemeanour? I know in Georgia there was a case where a guy was going to spend many years in jail because he had sex with his girlfriend who was underage. He was 18 or 19 I believe. Hmmm, just doesn't make sense to me. Mix she be in jail, if for no other reason, than to keep the kids father from getting ahold of him.

Can't say for sure, but I think the parents of the victim, and the victim have a say in whether it was deemed consensual, or perhaps that facts indicated that. I guess the other option is that the prosecutor didn't believe he could make a felony case.
Either way, it's a sad, sad thing.

Agreed Monica. A 15 year old kid is not qualified to make that decision. Their parents are still responsible for them. Now, I must admit that I view it a bit differently when it is an 18 year old and a 17 year old, but a 25 year old man with a 15 year old kid is a case of an adult taking advantage of a child. Mr. Mix should be very glad that I am not that kid's father.

Sean, like you my Wednesdays are particularly crammed up with meetings & con-calls. It is far and away the least productive day of the week for me. Which is part of the reason I average getting to the office a good 2 - 3 hours before anyone else everyday of the week.
Anyway, make it a good day doing what you do. Looking at maps, looking at X-Rays, selling Coca-Cola, building stuff, spying on the legislature, whatever you do just do it well.
