Phillips says he's headed to Auburn
That was quick.
Mississippi OL Aubrey Phillips, who spurned Auburn for Florida State on signing day, has reversed course and expects to play for the Tigers this fall. We know this because our friends at AuburnSports.com, AuburnUndercover.com and ITAT tell us it is so.
Phillips' 2009 availability is in question. Though he has been released from his Letter of Intent with FSU, Phillips will need a waiver from the NCAA to compete this season. I'm not sure that'll matter. It's rare that a freshman can playing a meaningful role along any offensive line -- much less in the Southeastern Conference.
Of note is what Phillips said about his reasons for leaving FSU.
Here's what he told AuburnSports.com:

Of note is what Phillips said about his reasons for leaving FSU.
Here's what he told AuburnSports.com:
- Phillips said he arrived at FSU weighing 340 pounds.
- He participated in summer workouts and claims to have lost 15 pounds.
- He said his position coach, former Auburn assistant Rick Trickett, initially was supportive of Phillips' work. At some point, though, Trickett's opinion changed and he became dissatisfied with Phillips' work.
- ``(Trickett) told me I couldn't sit by the linemen at lunch. He told me I couldn't talk to them or be around them. He told me I wasn't a lineman anymore and the only reason I was part of the team was because of the Letter of Intent."
- Phillips believes FSU's recent troubles with the NCAA, which resulted in the program drawing probation, will help him earn an eligibility waiver.
``If I had known about that probation earlier, I would have never signed with Florida State," Phillips told AuburnSports.com. "I wish I could go back to Signing Day and sign with Auburn the way it should have been."

Boo Yah
Ah, Norm you missed the spike!
I hate you Norm.
New page smell. Another two-fer for Norm.
Not me!
Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh - nothing like a new page - well almost nothing
Just don't put me on a stick you Whap-a-Danger.
BTW - I remember before the amphitheater was even there...
Can someone give the cliff notes of the previous page? Or do I need to read comments 200 thru 400?
I can't believe nobody remembers the Raunch Hands.
The amphitheater wasn't always there?
the ampitheatre looks like it was "built" in the 15th century
I don't think they have ever been to the Prattville Y, Norm.
You boys are referring to a different amphitheater. I'm just sayin'.
Keep Hate Alive.
They're showing their P'ville ignorance.
They don't love the 'Ville.
good. it's probably a stupid amphiteatre anyway
Some might say it's "the preferred community". Some might.
aero - Harrison and I despise onions. And almost all the Hotties hate bama. And PF is going to follow JZ's advice and make the elimination of a bammer homeless dude look like a road accident.
I know an entire Chamber of Commerce that might say that.
I like to dig a shallow hole, then stand in it, tell everyone close by they are in my amphitheater, and then tell them what I think about everything. That's the cool thing about amphitheaters: you can make them anywhere.
aero - oh, and the term "onions" is irrelevant to the definition of a true Philly Cheesesteak. That pretty much sums up the previous page, unless you want to know about a Hottie getting pregnant from bowling.
Thank you Jack Handy.
I think even Hootie Gipson would refer to Prattville as "The Preferred Community."
(just to see if he's lurking)
Are you saying I am ripping off Jack Handy?! Well, yeah, I guess I do owe a lot of my style to him. Better than ripping off Dane Cook I suppose.
To hell with onions, they make me cry.
Hottie getting preggo from bowling? This I'll have to see.
I shall return after reading 200 comments.
Boxhead - no offense intended. I like Mr. Handy's work and yours as well. You just reminded me of it with that post.
we should all go back to the prior page and suprise aero by deleting all posts.
That would be funny.
mrtommy,
To be honest I wouldn't eat the stuff at the competitions normally. It is too sweet. But it has to be that way to score well in these KCBS sanctioned events. Memphis in May is the same way. Those are the two major circuits of competitions.
I prefer my BBQ with a bit more of a kick.
I like my barbecue served by a hot blonde, preferably, but not necessarily with all of her own teeth.
Earl Pitts used to say "teeth gets in the way of good lovin'".
Much like Auburn last year, I took no offense, Norm (that almost makes sense. Too hard to try to word it more cleverly)
Off topic but DO NOT play NCAA 2010 football if you love your Auburn Tigers. Very depressing. I have been blown up more times than I care to remember.
I feel like Tony Franklin...I have tried all 3 qbs and even asked the line to put weight back on...still no help.
Mario has fumbled every game at least 2 times.
tigercowboy,
So what you are saying is that you relived the 2008 season?
Every painful minute...You would think that someone at Sony was a bammer. It appears that Auburn is in double slow mo..
Although on a brighter note Chris Todd throws a pretty good ball so the surgery was a success.
Thanks for the tip FSJ. And no I don't know anything about the "preferred community". We in the gump never made it all the way out to P'ville
see, i told everybody yesterday Todd would be ok since his digital reincarnation led me to victory in the Swamp!!!!
FSJ - Guess I missed it in all these posts. Have you cooked in a lot of BBQ contests? My brother and his wife are avid BBQ connoisseurs. They travel all over the place...even went to Key West last year to cook. They are also KCBS judges. You BBQ people are rabid about your Q.
crap...I hate work. See y'all this evening, Hotties!
Work is craptacular.
I would rather eat a whole raw onion everyday than work
You hotties would never cease to amaze me. I have no idea how it's even possible.. and I don't wanna get into technical details of that + getting mono.
Random factoid: Three of the most hyped signees from 09 class wore #7 for the hs (or hargrave) team.
This still makes me laugh.
Coach O
Yeah, Aeronaut.
It was kind of tricky.
j-z,
I heard Chris Vernon on Roundtable the other day and he said he was preparing another "anthem" for this year, but wouldn't give any details.
Puppet Hour. AHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!
I think a puppet stoly my work badge and is going around impersonating me. If anyone sees it, kill him immediately. That badge costs me 5 bucks
Is said puppet also filling prescriptions? That could be bad.
i don't know norm. maybe he's getting pseudoephedrine to make meth
I haven't made puppet hour in months.
Also, Verizon DSL blows, I have determined.
OK, this is so weird, because I just saw a puppet with a work badge that said "Harrison" on it arrest some kids in the parking lot. For one, I was like, "Puppets usually aren't eligible for any kind of badges. I need to write my senator and make sure this hasn't changed." Additionally, I was like, "How does that work badge give them the right to arrest kids?" I don't know, but those kids are probably dead now.
I have 167 unread messages in my email account right now, and not a one of them matters. How bout that?
Not to one up, but my yahoo email is 2257 unread.
i don't care about the kids, I just want my badge back. It didn't tip you off that the puppet had the same name as me. They all have weird names like "elmo" and what not
Katt Williams is so funny he should be illegal.
My yahoo email is up to 2097. Not bad considering that is the one I devote to spam.
Look Harrison, I was busy, I didn't have time to filter all the facts. I was running a very important errand for my business that included delivering highly corrosive acid to the methadone clinic before it eroded through the casket that was holding it.
Don't ask me about my business.
Headline of the day on cnn.com: Monkey taught to steal from fenced yard.
you're lucky you've built enough puppet-cred to get away with it this time. and since you don't know what I really look like there's no way you'd know it was me on the badge. Hint: i don't really have a mustache
well, Harrison, if you're going to compare work to onions, I'll take work 24/7 till I kill over dead.
Hi hotties. been hearing lately that Corey Grant will pick the dark side. If that happens, and I think it will, for all the talk about recruiting alabama first by our coaching staff, we can't land a kid from our back yard? Not a good reflection
that's where we are completely different THT. I would do almost anything to not work
The ID had a picture of Barbara Streisand taped on to it. Puppets are very stupid, I don't think they fully comprehend how to fake an ID.
it was mine!!
Oh, sorry Harrison. Well, it looks like you are out $5 (and if they trace those kids' deaths to that ID, you might go to jail for the rest of your life also. I would testify in your defense, but I am busy that day)
Who is Corey Grant? A puppet? If so, get him out of my backyard!
people who want to live a slower paced life should work from home, grow their own food, home school their kids, spin their own yarn, and STAY OFF MY ROADS, INSTEAD OF DRIVING 25 in a 45 ZONE FOR 5 MILES with upwards of 30 cars lined up behind them (I was #12). Anyone who drives less than 1mph under the speed limit should be euthanized. If I'd had a gun I'd have shot out their tires. Which is probably why I don't have a gun.
whew, I feel better, and I didn't even hurt anyone.
I am pretty sure the other driver was Harrison, THT. He has a lot on his plate right now, so he drives slowly. So yes, you did hurt someone. Harrison. You hurt his feelings. That is what you hurt.
j-z. u been buying tires at gipsons?
Sorry about that Harrison. Next time I see you I will shoot out your tires ;-)
THT - do you really mean "euthanized"? Since that's humane, I'd be inclined to think that in such a situation, something violent is in order.
I'm out, Hotties. Stay clean and keep the dream.
Sponge, he may be closer to Auburn distance-wise, but Opelika is hardly what I would call a pro-Auburn town. I assume the Auburn/Opelika HS rivalry goes all the way to Auburn University, but that is only a guess.
I agree with you though, it will be very disappointing to have a player who would fit so nice in the new offense go to The Dark Side. If that happens, you have to wonder what he was doing visiting Auburn this past weekend. That visit suddenly doesn't look so positive.
anyone have the latest on the last 6 or so signees and if they made it in school? Also, i had heard Justin Albert was kicked off team. anyone confirm that?
Sponge - How about the thought that he just wants to move away from home.
Or, maybe we have a really good shot of landing others and he realizes?
Or maybe we just are screwed across the board.....nah!
Norm, yes something violent would be in order, but I don't want anyone to think I'm heartless.
depressed, i am trying not to drink the coolaid. if you went by star ratings only, this staff no better than last years so far. signing day a long way off however. here's hoping negative news turns the tide. I think we need some of those 5 star commitments to keep the momentum.
Heartless.
AU., there are lots of reasons that a kid wants to go elsewhere. its the staffs job to give him reasons to stay. perception is reality sometimes, and it still looks like satan is getting whoever he wants.
I still like this staffs efforts, don't get me wrong. just anxious for real results.
Sponge, I have not seen most of these players Auburn is recruiting play, but it is nice to see Auburn recruiting against other major conference BCS teams for the majority players instead of Troy, Duke etc. That had started happening with disturbing frequency with the old staff. You make a legitimate point regarding landing these players, though. I am still hopeful that recruiting will be much improved over the last few years.
I agree depressed. Long way till signing day. I'm out.
I hate when Molly uses my laptop while I'm at work. There's about 1,690 of her little dog hairs in my keyboard and on the screen.

Former AU db Dell McGee, now coach of Columbus Carver H.S. has banned UGA coaches from his campus. AJC article
please excuse me if this has already been posted
Certainly doesn't look like Georgia handled that very well.
THT, thanks for the link. Nice to see the coach stand up for his player but my guess is the ban won't last long.
Did anyone see the article that quoted Rick Trickett as saying both he and Phillips made the wrong decision? Sorry I don't know the fancy THT way of linking articles.
nope cincy, can you copy/paste the URL, please?
yep, SteveFC - I doubt it will have much impact at all on recruiting. The UGA coaches can still recruit Carver players, just not call/visit on campus. And you're right, if the "temporary" ban is lifted before the NCAA "visitation season" opens, it will be irrelevant. Coach McGee was just calling out the UGA coaches for their misdeed.
Time for the staff to quit talking about recruiting, and focus on its work for the season, and do its recruiting work quietly.
They're doing the right things ... it's just time to change gears.
http://www2.oanow.com/oan/oasports/comments/trickett_phillips_made_the_wrong_choice_and_i_made_the_wrong_choice/84086/
THT,
Can you "fix" the link?
THT stop deleting your posts
Welcome back, Monica. Sorry we didn't get to meet while you were in Birmingham. Did you have a good trip? How's the new niece?
I think a couple of his deleted posts were my fault. I encouraged him with silly stuff.
Mon- one was a bit tacky/crude
the other was inadvertent duplicate
here it is again in case you felt cheated about not seeing it twice:
I hate when Molly uses my laptop while I'm at work. There's about 1,690 of her little dog hairs in my keyboard and on the screen.
yes cincy, I'll do if someone hasn't already beat me to it; I forwarded an email to you from Omnica with link instructions
cincy's link
Thank you, Cincy. I had a fantastic trip. We had so much fun just hanging out and loving all over those babies.
I'd rather see the crude one.
it's in your yahoo mail even as we speak
Practicing
Trickett Speaks
Mon - you'd rather see the crude niece? Interesting they're starting so young now.
It worked! But, it took me forever to do that - it will be years before I can do it without looking at the email directions.
Monica,
I told you I encouraged him to be bad!
Norm - You know I could hurt you.
Cincy - I refer to the directions for linking here every time.
Mon - you could. But you won't.
Now, please excuse me while I join the family at the pool after being delayed by a con-call.
Congrats cincy! And thanks for showing us that article.
I submit that Mark Richt gets who he wants much more often than $aban. Bama goes after every one of the top guys and UGA carefully targets the ones they want. A quick perusal of the top recruits on scout/rivals will reveal that Bama is after most every one of them. UGA isn't mentioned nearly as much and they are in the top 10 EVERY year...including this one.
I guess because I don't live in the state of Alabama it is much easier to ignore what $aban is doing. I also think it is unattractive to complain about and compare our nw program to the indels. Mark Richt has severely hampered AU's ability to cherry pick Ga and has quietly impacted AU very much.
This staff is doing as well as should be expected considering that they are starting from zero. They have made good HS contacts, etc. Let's see how well they set up the 2011 class and if they are able to improve.
It's all about results....not about how many top recruits visit your campus. Applying credence to that non-sense is only for recruiting junkies to discuss and brag about...it sure doesn't win football games.
Hoopie,
I agree with you - the proof is in the pudding, so to speak. But it is nice to read about high level recruits visiting your campus and hearing them say great things about their trips. Here's hoping that translates into some commitments.
On another note, Atlanta's defense is putting on a show tonight!
I'd take Saban's results over Mark Richt's.
results, perhaps, but I wouldn't take the results and $atan. ewwwwww
Unfortunately, the Meyer/Saban attitude seems to be getting better results right now than the Richt attitude. Being a jerk is the flavor of the month. I'll be glad when it changes.
Here's another player Trickett ran off:
Furlong: Line coach drove me off
depressed -when has it been different? What is the other flavor?
From the article on Furlong and Trickett:
Furlong immediately was interested, and after a visit to the Lawrence, Ala., campus, decided that was where he wanted to continue his career.
Except that the campus is in FLORENCE, AL.
It looks like Trickett is an old school coach, like Eddie said. I can't really approve of his methods. Harassing a kid just isn't right. Want to make a kid get in shape? Let him know what he will have to do to qualify physically to play football. If he doesn't qualify, send him on his way. Not everyone reacts well to yelling and screaming. A coach that behaves like a kid isn't going to earn a lot of respect.
My parents live near Florence and they said people are really excited about Terry Bowden and the upcoming year.
They should be. In some ways, Terry Bowden was a very good coach. Hopefully he has learned his lesson in other areas.
Jay started a new thread.
