Wednesday chatter
Hey everyone. Sorry for the minor delay here. One could say Wifey and I had a little too much fun last night and I forgot to pre-load the 8 a.m. thread.
Just to recap: The Diamondback at Kings Island is terrifying. I'm not one to be terrified by coasters. I'm an enthusiast. The first three hills really messed me up.
Here's what it looks like: The Diamondback
Note that there are no cars. You sit in a seat with armrests. There is nothing else to the car. Your feet dangle. That added to the drama. The second half of the above video illustrates it.
We also rode The Vortex, but didn't have a chance to hit another favorite, Invertigo. We ran out of time.
TODAY'S AUBURN QUESTION: Will Auburn's offense average more than 30 points per game this season? The Tigers averaged 17.3 in 2007.

With each player dismissal/injury, I think my 6-6 or 7-5 record may be too optimistic. I'm trying to buy into the "we're opening up scholarships" crowd, but losing players who would actually get playing time is not the plan I think Chizik would choose.
"You know my rule. I never a cut a man."
"I know your rule, Coach, and I respect it. But sometimes you gotta cut a man loose."
"Well, you're the captain. You make a decision, and you support your decision."
"Yes, sir."
Jet, help me. I know this applies to Auburn somehow, but I'm not sure what you meant. Is this just a house-cleaning similar to when Dye and Tuberville arrived?
Depressed,
Whether it's a coaching change, a management change, whatever, there's turnover.
We're thin, but hopefully, the ones we have are committed. Or healthy, depending on the situation.
DeShaun Barnes was a highly sought after 4 star LB out of Lincoln HS in Tallahasee that originally committed to UT in 2007. He committed to AU after prep school in 2008.
Wonder when the medical issue arose.
Hoopie,
He has had hip issues since high school...
Jeff Lebo has lowest salary of all SEC basketball coaches. He makes a measly 750K, about 1/5 of what Calipari and Donovan each make.
Article at gatorsports.com i.e. Gainesville Sun
After reading al.coms article (and I'm assuming you've all seen it) then I only got three things to say
KODI! KODI! KODI!
..I'm telling y'all in 6 months I'm gonna be saying I told you so. (I hope)
Keep in mind that losing player doesn't mean we can replace them in the next recruiting class. We can sign 28 and then actually bring in 25 of them. That is regardless of the number of players we lose.
The article I linked earlier seems to indicate that Todd's arm is much better. Look for the 3 way competition early. I don't want to beat a dead horse, but I am betting the kid surprises everyone.
the al.com article hints at a healthier Chris Todd. I wonder what the real scoop is. If he has regained his arm strength, how long will it last.
great minds think alike.
...and then there's Steve and me.
I have Dead or Alive's "You Spin Me Round" stuck in my head. Somebody help me!
Surely, you can't be serious.
As serious as Steve is about Chris Todd.
I just counted 57 players on scholly from the spring roster(I counted Durst). Savage and Trotter won't play this season. We have too many QB, DS, P,K, WR on scholly. Subtracting those extraneous positions and injuries, we hardly have 2 deep returning for offense and defense(44 players). Hopefully 20 of the remaining 24 newbies will qualify. It's a great year for some freshmen to step in and get on the field.
Happy Birthday, MyTommy!!
Here's a birthday gift for you:
purrrrrrr
Unmentioned in the Goldberg squib about Tray beating out Lemarcus for the Calgary gig: there was a third former-SEC-LB-with-off-field-legal-issues competing for the job: Juwan Garth err, Simpson.
As for Sam Dejarnette, this article indicates he turned out alright:
http://southernmiss.cstv.com/m-club/letterwinners.html
Rollison!
(Just kidding)
I hope we can redshirt him. I just don't think we will.
If Savage gets a med RS, then we have only 10 Sr on scholly.
Is it passe to talk trash about Alabama (or other rivals teams) on here?
Just finished edging and spraying roundup on our fairly large yard. My Tom's desire for a condo is sounding better and better.
cincy - you are the most industrious person on the planet. Now while you're still wanting to get things done, bring your Roundup up this way. I'll turn the flood lights on.
I better get to bed before Frazier comes on. Very long work day tomorrow. Almost a cincy-type work day.
I told Tom that for someone who hated to sweat, I sure had been doing a lot of it lately! Maybe I'm sweating off some weight while I'm at it :)
Good night THT. I hope you wake rested, like you said you did back in 1975 or sometime back then.
MachoG....hatin' on Bammer is always welcome. We don't do it in quite the Al.com style.
I suggest requesting Jet to re-post his Bama-hatin' manifesto.
requesto for the manifesto!
did someone say they hate bammer? i hate bammer too!! i really hate bammer! by the way, i hate bammer!
macho, they may also be called cousin humpers.
As I am still in the hills of Tennessee, I do not have easy access to either one of my two Manifestos of Hate.
Upon my return, I will endeavor to retrieve them to remind all of my utter disdain for the Cousin Humpers, of which I have seen my share this week.
well, ol' dummy here is still awake. I got sidetracked going through a ton of old Glomeratas. I had not thought to look at AU Library digital collection. I finally found a 1957 team photo with names attached. Also 1963 team. Found # roster for 1971 team. No such luck for 1983 team. Looked at several others, and of course, read all the stories about the great victories in those years. I'm ready for gridiron action!
and the nominees are:
Monreko Crittenden
Kendell Mack
Steve Ozburne
Frank LaRussa
Jay Casey
Monreko Crittenden has a great name to go with his 350 lbs. Kendell Mack was suggested by Cincy; that alone should be reason enough. Steve Ozburne helped pave the way for Jimmy Sidle and Tucker Frederickson to have a super season iin 1963. Frank LaRussa not only cleared a path for HB turned QB Lloyd Nix and HB Tommy Lorino, but he is the only nominee today to have won an AP NATIONAL CHAMPIONSHIP. But today's winner enabled Pat Sullivan to stay upright and play pitch & catch with Terry Beasley. And most importantly, his NAME IS JAY!
HAPPY JAY CASEY DAY!!!!
T-minus 65 days til kickoff!!!
WARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
mornin' THT. happy Jay Casey day to you as well. :)
Good morning, Hotties. It's not such a great morning here. Our little 5lb chihuahua, Geno, was attacked through the fence (we tied into the neighbors' fence and they have a shadowbox style) by one of the neighbor dogs. I walked into the kitchen and heard him screaming. I ran outside and he was almost halfway through. I grabbed him and his little front leg was all bloody. He has a degloving injury and it's fractured. One of his ears is torn and there's a puncture wound behind his ear too. Most healthy dogs would probably have a full recovery, but little G is 10 and has a bad heart murmur. I'm so afraid his poor little heart won't be able to handle all the stress. He'll be having surgery later this morning for his leg.
Please keep the little guy in your prayers today. Sorry this is so long.
Oh, Luv, I am so sorry to hear about your little baby. I will be praying for you today.
Good morning Hot Ones!!! Although K-Mack is my boy... HAPPY JAY CASEY DAY to all!!!! Cincy do you know if K-mack and current recruit Eric Mack are related? something about their eyes (and size) look familiar and K-Mack had a lot of family in SC.
Did we get any players off of IR since yesterday??
Luv I'm so sorry to hear that! I will be praying for the little fella as well.
Thanks, Cincy and AUBigCat.
BigCat,
I;m not sure if they are related, but like you I think there is great similarity. I saw something that led me to believe Kendall was living in SC, but that is as much as I can find.
Luv..sorry to hear that about Geno. He will probably heal fine physically. 5 years after our little dog got attacked, he would not even walk down the street toward the attack area. Here's hoping for a full recovery.
Luv, I'm sorry to hear the news about your little guy. Hope everything goes well, I know how emotionally draining it can be when something happens to your dog.
yikes Cincy. godspeed to his recovery. Sully is 12 lbs and he was trouced by a Rotweiler (sp?) when he was a puppy. it broke the head of his right back femur off and into a million pieces. he is fully recovered after 2 years but does have arthritis that flares up from time to time. i think that's part of the problem we're having trying to get him & Beasley adjusted to Tucker (50 lbs). he wants to attack all the time to protect himself. still bark city every afternoon. i've tried everything. hopefully they will adjust soon. it has been almost 6 weeks now.
i meant Luv, not Cincy. sorry.
for those you missed it last nite (Steve posted a link) we lost 2 more back-ups to medical hardships yesterday. LB DaShaun Barnes (hip injury suffered in high school) and DL Andre Wadley (had heat-related illness and kidney failure in 2008).
Barnes said he saw it coming and is still going to help with the team. Wadley is still consulting doctors and his chances for ever playing again are 'slim'.
Quick update on our CFL guys performance last night:
Tray Blackmon lead the Stampeders in tackles with 7 in a loss 27-40.
Damon Duval was 5 for 5 on field goals (48, 36, 32, 15 and 13 yards). He was also 2 for 2 on extra points for Montreal. He also had 2 punts for 89 yards and 10 kickoffs for 711 yards.
Prechae Rodriguez lead the Hamilton Tiger Cats in receiving. He got 7 passes for 55 yards with a 21 yard touchdown reception. Tre Smith caught one pass for four yards. The Tiger Cats lost 17-30.
nice work BigCat.
Thanks to the the CBC (Communique de Big Cat) for the CFL update.
Luv ... add me to the list of those expressing concern and prayers. We took team dog Z on vacation with us. We love here dearly, and can't imagine your anguish.
Using the injury standard as the exit ramp from the program, we might be down to Brent Poole, Moseley and Rollison at QB -- Todd (shoulder), Caudle (shoulder/knee), Trotter (knee)and Burns (brain fartitis).
