Depth Chart consolidation
OK. So in separate HABOTN entries during the past few days, I have offered my guesses about Auburn's depth chart. The team doesn't release depth charts per se, so what you see below is my best guess ... based on weeks of interviews and off-the-record chats with People Who Know Stuff.
DEFENSE
SDE: Mike Goggans, (Hot Carter), Dee Ford
DT: Mike Blanc, Zach Clayton, Derrick Lykes
DT: Jake Ricks, Nick Fairley
WDE: Antonio Coleman, Nosa Eguae, Zach Clayton/Cam Henderson
SLB: Craig Stevens, (Jonathan Evans), Ashton Richardson
MLB: Joshua Bynes, Harris Gaston, Wade Christopher
WLB: (Eltoro Freeman), (Spencer Pybus), (Jonathan Evans), Ashton Richardson
CB: Neiko Thorpe, Demond Washington
CB: Walt McFadden, Harry Adams
FS: (Mike McNeil), Daren Bates, Mike Slade, T'Sharvan Bell
SS: Zac Etheridge, Drew Cole/Mike Slade, (D'Antoine Hood)
OFFENSE
QUESTIONS & OBSERVATIONS
* Quindarius Carr has been trained to play 9, 2 and 5. He's the true utility receiver.
* Where will Philip Pierre-Louis fit in considering he's already burned his redshirt season? Surely Derek Winter will redshirt. There's no room for him.
* Remember when Trooper Taylor was all hot n' bothered over walk-on Jay Wisner? He's still high on the kid, but where will Wisner fit into this deal?
* Will Kodi Burns really be the dynamic play-maker Gus Malzahn keeps describing? Is he even the real Wildcat guy? Tulsa's Wildcat guy in 2008, A.J. Whitmore, is 5-9 and 172. He looks and plays like Onterio McCalebb. Nobody will mistake Burns for McCalebb.
* Auburn is going to have to play a lot of nickel defense this season. The team only has two healthy, reliable linebackers. A nickel defense requires only two linebackers.
* Why did John Sullen, a true freshman, play ahead of Jared Cooper at RG when Isom went down?

Wow.
SUBSTANCE
Did PPL not get a Medical RS for getting hurt on the 1st play of the 1st game? I've seen other's play far more than he did and get a redshirt.
dammit
nevermind
postmature substantiation
Nevermind on my PPL question. I read it wrong.
Go Eduardo!!!
Ashton Richardson?
Sounds like a soap character.
My take: Sullen > Cooper.
Nothing of substantce has come out of Brewton in decades.
Nothing Kills a good Habotn buzz like work does. Damn these bills I need to get paid.
I'm a little concerned looking at JGT's Weakside LB setup. The three guys that we want to play there are all hurt? And the guy set to play theremay be to busy hangin with Demi to be any use.
Eddie, what's wrong w/ your PPL question? I have the same one.
pretty sure PPL has to wait until eligibility expires before applying for the med redshirt.
My Soap Opera name is Ewell Wellington. Yeah I did a google. Middle name + the street you grew up.
You guys wore this thing out while I was out checking on my satellite office in Mexico.
1. What happened with the beat writer throwdown?
2. Did Eric Smith do something stupid?
3. Is Longshore still yakking about the billboards? And if so, will someone please explain them to him. He such an idiot.
4. What is Josh Moon trying to do, be another fbaum? Throwing out statements like 40% of AU fans dislike Tubbs. He probably talked to about 6 people to get his stats. Couldn't listen to whole today because it was so stupid I did not want to waste my time on it.
Griff- Actually, when I re-read the question Jay posed about PPL, it said that he "had" burned his redshirt, which I now take to mean and confirmed that he did indeed Redshirt last season. He is a Freshman and he will not be eligible for another "medical Redshirt" year unless he suffers another major injury.
wtc- Well said about #4. That column was a joke and certainly does not represent what or how the majority of Auburn fans would treat Tubs. Last season, Auburn Fan's had more than enough cause / reason / opportunity to openly boo him and they didn't and wouldn't. Sorry, I definitely do not like the way he was asleep at the wheel at the end of his tenure, but I sure do respect everything he did before that.
I hope Nick Saban isn't reading the HABOTN, because if he is Jay G is got a lecture in his future.
Jay G.,
Ordered the Chizik mag earlier, look forward to reading it.
Scottie,
How long before I have to make a decision on the hat? I'm still considering sending you a floppy hat to add the logo on.
Sorry if already posted, but no surprises here...
Leo the Drug Dealer
Nothing with Carson surprises me.
Apparently you can't get buy in the NFL 500K per year league min, you have to have cash flow on the side.
Ashton Richardson, scary.
I thought Eric Smith had locked down the number 4 tailback position.
Who is Ashton Richardson?
That's probably a cause for concern.
Why do I read al.com comments? Why is it that I can't just read the story and move on?
If he's any relation to Tony R. we're gonna be just fine.
Ashton is close relatives of Trent :).
Eddie is 100% correct on PPL.
He already has redshirted.
I left a question in the hat thread.
I just answered it.
your middle name is Ewell?
Any idea when the hats will ship? I'm in desperate need of a new lid. My dog ate my two favorite hats in the last 2 weeks.
Yay, my first HABOTN post, it has that great great fresh feeling. Like new car smell, new baby smell, wearing new shoes for the firs time, just makes me want to go "ahhhhh".
I was sporting my HABOTN shirt today at the ER. I'm sure it went way above the heads of the people in the Nooga.
Welcome LGG. Hope you enjoy!
Welcome Byron ...
Does Tubs still hang out at your BBQ place? Let us know so all the haters can show up to hate on him ... you know, yell at him while he's eatin' his Q ... because we all hate him so much.
Welcome, LGGByron.
I thought I read that Gulley was working behind Fannin in practice, meaning either Gulley will get snaps at the 3 spot, or Fannin will get snaps at the 5 spot (or probably both).
BTW, does anyone have or know of a diagram of Malzahn's base formation with the positions numbered? Just wondering what the heck happened to #'s 6-9 & 10-11. I'm guessing those are the linemen, but if so, then the numbering scheme seems to be all over the place. It's not right to left, or inside to outside etc.
Then again, in a game where the "full back" is in front of the "half back" but behind the "quarter back" I guess a nomenclature that doesn't make sense is par for the course.
WELCOME!!!!!!!!!!
Nice....new hotties everyday. Must mean we're getting closer to football season!! Welcome!
Welcome LGGByron!!!
Gus is biased against 6-8 and 10-11. There is no other plausible explanation.
I suspect Malzahn's numbering system is based upon fractals.
Byron, What are your thoughts on the current political climate in Eurasia?
Man this place has some really interesting newcomers.
Here is something to explain the Malzahn numbering system. Understand it and you understand the keys to numbering positions on a football team.
The HABOTN is growing quicker than an Alabama fan at an all you can eat donut buffet.
It is growing and I'm sure it will explode here in a couple of weeks...I like it!
Thanks Steve. I was in the middle of solving a third order differential equation using only primes and Fibonacci numbers, but it does appear that Gus is using some sort of fractal function.
Remind me to take one of Feng's links before I take one of Steve's again.
Several cousin humpers on the ship this past week. Spotted them right away. Wife beater shirt. Tattered UAT hat, and drunk by9:30am each morning. Oh yeah, requested Sweet Home Alabama every 5 minutes from the DJ, the live band, and the island band (on steel drums).
And yet you never pushed them overboard. I don't think you hate enough.
Yes Peter that's my middle name
JZ
Well JZ, I fear a tangle of alliances are happening all over again. Russia is flexing its muscles over Georgia, and using its closely aligned friends in Iran to destabilize Pakistan, Afghanistan and Iraq. Its all a mess, like the time my dog got in the mud and then rolled on the carpet.
Yes Byron, but do you think Michael is a just and fair ruler?
I'll miss just the regulars congregating but se new comers are ight
Marcus, it's difficult to pin down where each offensive back will play. They move around.
This is my best guess at a depth chart.
Re Malzahn's numbering. Never thought it would be fractals, was certain it was about ball bearings - it's ALL about ball bearings.
But since its fractals, well that makes all kinds of sense.
I love that jhag, of all people, is the wily veteran who can take his time warming to the newcomers.
He could be, as long as he doesn't go the George III route, and decide to carry on conversations with a tree trunk.
Salve Tutti, sono ritornata alla mia gente!
jz-don't think I didn't have a plan. I told many of them the boat did not leave until 6:00pm. We would all meet at Senor Frog at 4:30 and watch the 'other' boats leave. Of course I was on that 'other' boat because we left at 4:00pm.
We don't speek of what Michael is able to converse with.
Hmmm did someone say sheep or am I imagining that?
LGGLGByron, you'd be surprised the amount of intel one can gather from a tree trunk.
And I am pretty sure Gus uses quaternions to solve the dimensional locations of all his football players during a given play.
As an addendum to my earlier response to 2.0 ...
Let me say, the "eradication" of Cousin Humpers in international waters is not only allowed, it's encouraged.
Welcome LGGByron! You can come join me in the newbie corner.
Since wtc is using offspring as his avatar, I'm going to join the club. But not in the tub.
(That is The Daughter flossin' the HABOTN tee on the Santa Monica Pier.)
Siamo molto contenti che sei tornato, bella fanciulla!
Quite Micheal, I enjoy reading the stuff that you find in a napkin after you sneeze, it can show you quite a bit.
I also enjoy having great conversations with myself, but I never seem to win the arguements.
I personally lose every argument with myself.
(In Cousin Humper voice) ...
J-Z ...
Tornader? It sounded like a freight train.
And a nacho bell grande to you, j-z.
Jay G, that pic is darn tootin adorable.
I suddenly have the urge to eat Tex-Mex.
I hope my daughter's picture didn't elicit the need for tex-mex. I don't understand the connection.
mmmm, Tex-Mex....I'm in the mood for cheap pizza, though.
I guess we'll see how igoogle does because:
Ed ora è il miglior italiano Auburn blog su internet
No, it was from the Nacho comment, though that does remind me of the quote, "Daughters are the curse of their fathers." I pray I only have sons.
I am about to start cussing in English if this foreign language crap doesn't stop.
O really PF? OOka junka steekel bleekel flooflooo boom. That's Eurasian.
Brava mytommyd!
In the name of Patrick Fain Dye, William Shakespeare and other esteemed practioners of the English language like William Boomithy Muschamp, I hereby declare this an English speaking zone!
You know it's amazing how much smarter I've become since they invented this here interwebs. Unforunately google doesn't have a Eurasian translator
Brother Jet had spoken.
Grazie, 2.0
sorry 'bout that jet
Jet, that declaration reminds me of the time Brad Lester let us know Tommy Tuberville would be coming back in 2009. You can't declare that which you can't control. Shleepel Jleepel rattoo pattoo oink.
mytommyd, try this translator website:
www.eurasiantranslator.jleepel
I've been Feng'd!!
Feng'd in the jleepel!
I won't get a PERMANENT scar from that, right?
I don't guess you can call it permanent since it will decay and disappear after you die.
Michael Is Morbid.
cool! I guess makes me the first Hottie that has a Feng'd in the jleepel scar. Talk about notoriety!
Just making sure we are using accurate terminology here, Jay. I know accuracy is valued here at HABOTN. If that makes me morbid, well then, I don't want to be unmorbid!
You weren't into morbidity until watching the "Get Down Goblin" video. Something about seeing Jan Terri emerge from a coffin seemed to affect you in profound ways.
For the uninitiated: Get Down Goblin
Like I'm gonna click on that link...
Jay, something about seeing candy, pumpkins, and witches awound changes a man.
Jay, would you mind banhammering yourself for posting that?
It's one of the most influential videos of the 90s.
Martin Scorsese said "The Departed" was inspired by the cinematography displayed in Jan Terri's videos.
The scary thing is there are rumors going around that Michael is the president of the Jan Terri fan club.
I forget how long it's been since we discussed Jan Terri around here. There are probably many Hotties who weren't around during the initial craze.
Everyone needs to watch all of the Jan Terri videos, period. Baby Blues, Journey to Mars, Losing You... all pure brilliance.
Sorry Michael, I would but I have been dying to repeatedly listen to "Video killed the radio star" over and over again. I just can't find time for Jan.
Best comments from YouTube on that video ...
danradl: ha she is a fake soloing... on a bass guitar no less... wtf
soulcalibur22: she is fake talenting this video.
A Jan Terri takeover of HABOTN just prior to football season!!! I never saw it coming.
Best thing about Baby Blues video - it is revealed in a close up that the cowboy has brown eyes. So much for "baby blues deep enough to fill a swimming pool."
Michael, you may want to give all the newcomers a warning about puppet hour also.
And the ever popular TMOA, which is Ten Minutes of AL.COM.
Ehhh it's in the FAQ. No worries.
Grr puppets, but how do you feel on muppets?
