Auburn adds a significant commitment
Hey everyone. Our friend Jeffrey Lee from AuburnSports.com is reporting that LB LaDarius Owens, of Jess Lanier High fame, has verbally committed to the Tigers.
Rivals.com rates him as the nation's No. 7 LB prospect and the No. 3 overall prospect in the state. Owens, the nephew of former Auburn standout James Owens, has scholarship offers from most (all?) Southeastern Conference schools.
He's a high-impact recruit and someone who may provide immediate assistance next fall.

hot diggity!
THT is on fire
Damn!!!! what a great bit of good news!!! welcome LO
I have so much respect for James Owens, and enjoyed watching him play at AU. I would have been so sad if his nephew had gone elsewhere.
LaDarius - you've been a member of the AU family since the day you were born. Can't wait to see you suit up for the Tigers!!!! WAR EAGLE!!!
BTW great substance THT!!!!
THT,
I can't imagine how exhausted you and Mrs. THT must be! I am just spent and we only had an hour and a half drive home. Glad you made it safely.
Thanks, Mobilz!!! We had such a fun time in Auburn yesterday. Can't wait to get back down there for the WVU game.
I got to watch him play Hueytown this week. He has a big motor.
Cincy - we had so much fun meeting. Your family (including Nick and Zeke) is BEE YOU tiful!
Awesome news. He will be very much needed next season!!!
With Alabama's stockpile of linebackers, is there really any excuse for Auburn not to get all of the top LBs in the state?
I'm glad he decided to pick Auburn, losing him to another team would be a huge blow to the recruiting effort.
All in all it's been a great start for Chizik and more importantly the program!
PF, CJ Mosley is generally considered the other top LB in the state, and he has been considered a Bama lean/lock for some time. I would love to see AU snatch him away, he is supposedly going to choose between the two state schools.
Can LO skip his senior HS year and suit up for us now? j/k haha.
Welcome to the Plains Mr. Owens you're gonna love it. Of course you already know that.
Nice recruit.
Now for part II of my bias against Auburn rant.
Check Chris Low's SEC blog about week one.
The only mention of Auburn - in a pile of other teams that played games against "exhibition" opponents. His point is fine - Florida and others do play too many cupcakes. But that's it. It's all our team and coaches who worked hard for that get. We won by too much.
Hey, Chris, you can kiss it too.
I'm moving to Alaska.
And, yes, Pharisees who will bang on my for doing this here, I did post it on this blog.
Chris Lowe jabs on one hand and gives Mahlzahn a helmet sticker on the other.
This comment has been removed by the author.
He's not a Bammer apologist.
Before you ask: No, he's not one of my homies. I've actually never met him and I'm not interested in doing so.
I'm out from Auburn.
Piece to j00.
Woot! Welcome LO! I picked a good time to get home and check in.
I have been in a good mood all day... how about you folks?
safe travels, as always, JayGT!
Fine. Retracted. Safe travels. Thanks for the coverage.
If I were Chris Low, I wouldn't say too much about AU until the story develops further. Seems responsible to me.
Bama looked damn good in that victory. They beat Va Tech much worse than the score. A few TOs and special teams plays is all that kept it close.
Bama is big, mean, smart and deep. I don't like it, but I ain't gonna deny it just to be a homer. I imagine Chris Low saw what I did in that game and accordingly wrote about it.The Bama-Va Tech was the premier weekend game and deserved the most attention.
G' evening everyone!
Hey IV!! How's it going? you really should get Facebook.
I still have yet to catch up on all the reading, there's just so much!
Yeah, Low had a blurb about Ontario McIrishman and a helmet sticker for Gus installing his offense. Pretty balanced to me.
I agree, Hoopie. That defense of theirs is plain nasty.
It's not just Chris Low. The ESPN talking heads B team were breaking down which new coach in the SEC had the best debut and Chizik got nothing.
It's just rubbing me the wrong way.
I'd better shut up before I am banhammered.
After week 1, there is no denying that Bama is best in the west in appearance. Still alot of football to be played, but it looks to be another rematch in Atlanta later this year.
Hoopie, what did you do in the Bama-VT game?
Woot! Woot! Ladari-Woot!
I'm not concerned about ESPN or anything else right now.
My focus is us.
Don't worry, be Chizzy!
Did someone complain about Chiz's shirt?
PeterF...thanks for the catch...how much gets subtracted off my grade for bad grammer?
Not "did", but "saw".
I don't know if it was wrong, just took me reading it twice to figure out what you were talking about. I thought it was funny.
I'm fine with the lack of attention we are getting compared to Kiffin. Let's make them wish they had covered us earlier when we go up to Knoxville and show who was the best hire.
Is this four or five LB commits so far?
Good to see the coaches working hard to address the needs.
This guy looks impressive.
ESPN rides the popularity waves commonplace in shallow American society. It doesn't any more shallow than sports opinion.
ESPN will get on board as soon as they think someone's for real and conversely will stay on board a little too long until they know that slippage has occured.
You can count on ESPN to jump all over any story that has a politically correct angle and to cover the teams with larger fan bases more.
In the future I expect ESPN will do more of all of this rather than less.
PF..I do real estate development in the No Ga Mountains/foothills. I'm around a lot of hillbillies...that's my grammer excuse and I'm sticking with it.
And I will see the Keaton family next week.

more viewers = more advertisers = more $$$
Like Warren G said/rapped, "ain't no love in this game 'cos it's all about the doe"
Was there just a Warren G reference on the HABOTN? Best. Blog. Ever.
Hoopie,
Enjoyed your thoughts on Alabama.
If we can learn to cover kickoffs we are gonna be tough to handle.
LaDarius Ownes is what I call a key recruit. His importance is more than just him. We needed a top rated in state player and couldn't afford to lose the clout should he turn to the dark side. That being said, he also has the size and speed to contribute immediately. This is an exciting commitment and one of our must haves.
Agreed Steve..I said a few months ago that he was one that Auburn couldn't afford to lose....and i didn't think that they would btw.
I have to admit Bama appears to be best in the west at this point, but there is a long way to go. LSU wasn't as impressive as I anticipated. Ole Nutt looked pretty good, but not as impressive as Bama. Memphis always plays them tough.
FSJ...I wouldn't have said that if I knew you were around....actually Bama just got lucky ....yeah....that's it.
Steve....Did we substitute very much on the OL? I couldn't see well and if If I recall correctly, you saw the game in HD. I'm out of town, saw the game on a fuzzy screen and didn't DVR the game or replay.
We didn't substitute on the OL till the end of the game I believe.
Does anyone else still question Todd's arm, will those throws be intercepted in conf play? Am I just pessimistic because of last year?
Everyone should read this article about LaDarius Owens. I still cannot believe that I am old enough to have been around when black players were not allowed on Auburn's team. I still cannot believe that I am old enough to have been around when black players were not allowed on Auburn's team. One of the great things about football is that it knows no color. Any Auburn player would be welcome in my home. Anyone who had a problem with that would not. Ziemba isn't a white football player. McCaleb isn't a black football player. They are just football players and kids whose hard work I appreciate very much. They are Auburn men and nobody who is truly a college football fan could be a racist. Krewe- todd's arm strength looked pretty darn good to me. Mark me down as impressed.
A couple of them (ones in the first half I'm thinking of) likely would be picked in the conference play.
Kodi's duck to Trott would have been as well.
However, Todd dialed it in during the second half. That fade to Adams was nice touch.
And let's not forget "The Record Breaker." We need the AU version of Daniel Moore to work that one up soon.
krewe, Todd proved he has a cannon for an arm. I am still concerned about whether it will hold up for the season, but he is much better than last season. Frankly, I am surprised about the number of people who criticized him when they knew he was injured and played anyway. Some even game him silly nicknames and thought he was through. Now they learn how uneducated they were.
Todd looked really good, but I wouldn't say he had a cannon. The pass that Fannin dropped because he got hit as the ball came in wasn't his best throw. Fannin had to change his pace and wait on the ball.
However, Todd's arm looked completely fine to me.
Burns arm however on his one pass, was just what I expected from him.
Speaking of arms, the LaTech kicker had the smallest arms I've ever seen on a college football player.
If I remember correctly, that LaTech kicker is only about 155 pounds.
His arm looked strong...had he had a "cannon" then he would have hit Fannin in stride a couple of times where Fannin had to change his direction and get to the ball.
However, no complaints about his execution and how he ran that offense.
2.0, I sure hope you've gone back to sleep since it's almost 4 a.m. there. Class starts in a few more hours!!!
Ziemba isn't black?
RK, QBs don't always throw the ball as hard as they can.
No, Ziemba is a white guy, but that is beside the point.
Rhetorical joke Steve.
Todd had a good game and made some good throws under duress, but he definitely has some things to work on and improve. Like I said previous, I'm impressed. He doesn't have a cannon, kodi burns does.
I am still reviewing game film and will likely be for a couple of days, but this does look very good.
I won't be reviewing game tape for a few days, but I expect my coments to be just as ridiculous.
anyone know why such a disconnect on many of the ~10 yard out pass plays. I wondered if the receivers were running the routes wrong, but some of them were definitely just bad throws. Improve those plays and eliminate the fumbles and I think our offense will be pretty darn good.
"RK, QBs don't always throw the ball as hard as they can."
Steve, I'm not 6.
Thank you.
Todd doesn't have a cannon. He does have an adequate SEC arm. He'll have to be smart about it. Our offensive schemes don't seem to require highly accurate rocket shots deep downfield. So we'll have some ints, but shouldn't be an inordinate amount.
Just don't throw anywhere near Eric Berry.
THT,
Trooper was all over (I think it was) Blake after two straight passes that were incomplete and Blake hard ran too deep on one and too far in on the other.
Exactly, Eddie. I like what Todd looks like right now. I don't love it...yet.
I hope Kodi gets to use his cannon some. I loved the play where Kodi lined up the backfield, go the ball from Todd and threw it downfield. I just hope there's a speedy reciever next time.
PF - your b'day wish to MrsTHT was very kind. Thanks! (at least I think that was you)
Peter,
Anytime Kodi throws the ball, speedy reciever or not, it scares me.
Especially in the situation like last night that requires him to get rid of the ball quickly and he doesn't get his feet set.
THT- I'm fairly certain the recievers ran their routes to long. It looked the way at the game, and after watching the replay, trooper was all up in the wr's grills when they got back to the sideline.
THT, I have read where Benton and Emory both ran the wrong routes. Chiz praised Todd for recognizing it and not throwing a pick. I think it was in a Goldberg article.
RK, then you would know to judge a QBs arm on a ball he puts heat on, not one he touched in there to give the guy a chance to catch the ball. My guess is that Todd didn't see the other defender closing in.
Yep, that was me, THT. I was stoked that she wrote back.
For others wanting to review the film, check this out. It is great.
aero-The Bell kid played last night. I saw him on the a couple of special teams, but no others snaps.
thanks WERK. That particular route was an aberration in an otherwise excellent show.
Steve,
I know you love Todd. We all know you love Todd. I think he's a good QB. I've been a big fan of him over Kodi since last year.
I don't think he has a cannon. He showed yesterday that his arm is greatly improved over last year, however, nothinh showed me yesterday says he has a cannon.
Just expressing my opinion. I'll pretend you didn't type "then you would know to judge a QBs arm on a ball he puts heat on" and move on.
Thanks, I would never make it as a scout and I think time slows down when I watch an Auburn game. And with that being said I could tell McCalebb was hella fast hitting those holes...WOW.
This comment has been removed by the author.
THT,
As soon as that drive was over, Trooper was on the receivers and not Todd...that showed me that the wrong routes were the problems, not the throws.
A year ago, Greg Knox would have been nowhere to be found.
McCaleb was as advertised on this site.
There were times he was hitting the corner and I was sure he was going to be stopped for a loss and he hit a different gear than we've seen in awhile.
Thanks, STeveFC. I'll track that down. I still haven't gotten around to reading all the stories.
Who's copying my M.O. and deleting posts? Monica's gonna come in here and start fussing at me. Stop it.
Best stat of the game for me was we only had 2 running plays that went for negative yards.
A 1 yard loss by Kodi and a 1 yard loss by Tate.
That's domination up front. I know it was LaTech, but that's nice.
We didn't have a drive last year without 2 negative plays, much less a whole game.
BEASLEY!!!
that is a VERY impressive stat. I hope we can keep that up all season
McCaleb is very impressive with his speed. He will have to improve his leg strength in order to be top notch so that he is not so easy to take down. I actually prefer running him first and Tate second just like lightening comes before Thunder. He has a chance to be good. I'm excited with the running game. Defenses have to really defend 3 different options going all different directions every rum play. I love it.
Eddie,
We agree on that. Let McCalebb run the D to death, then Tate just run over them when they are trying to catch their breath.
Ontario does seem to be moving his legs faster than his body wants to go at times and trips himself up.
Rk- agree with you on that stat along with the other fact that we had zero 3 and outs. Tell me the last time that happened.
What was even more impressive is that the strength of the LaTech team was their line. I must admit, our line play surprised me a bit, especially the offensive line. I expected them to be much improved over last season, but they were better than expected.
I had no idea Fairley would be such a dominant defensive player. He and Jake Ricks seemed to have the inside under control.
On the Fannin fumble on the punt return, Chris Humphries is the guy that recovered it for us. He is a true freshman walkon at DE. Kudos to him.
As far as the defense goes...all three scoring drives by LaTech was stopped on a 3rd down and they were going to have to punt...but we got a facemask and two pass interference calls that extended all of their scoring drives.
If we don't make those mistakes, then we might have pitched a shutout.
Besides the pass that went for 93yds, Todd's best pass IMO was the one to Fannin for the 1st down on the first TD drive that he put in exactly the right spot for Mario to catch and away from the defender. That was a great pass.
I was surprised FAH had 22 caries. I had anticipated him getting a little over 10 carries. A guy that small usually doesn't carry the ball so much.
Also, I had anticipated Fannin or Aycock getting some carries from tailback. I never saw either.
Dan- the TD pass to Adams was sweet. He was falling backwards when he made that throw and it was right on the money in the corner of the end zone. I thought that was his best pass.
Steve thanks for posting that article about LO! I didnt know his uncle was a preacher and lives in Opelika. That's pretty cool!
It's crazy to think about the things his uncle had to endure. Auburn has come along way even since I was a freshman in 89-90. There was only one place in town for black students to get their hair cut even then, the Ole South parade still dressed children from the projects as "slaves", and black students were routinely stopped after dark by campus cops and asked for ID.
That pass interference penalty was bogus. They guy would have had to be 12 feet tall to catch that pass.
The facemask calls were good calls. Infact, on one of them, we could have been called for two facemasks on the same play.
Fannin is odd man out again. I'm clueless to how they intend to really use him.
Yeah Eddie that was very nice also.I guess the fact that it was for six qualifies it for second place.
Maybe we can mix in some triple option.

BigCat, it does bother me how black players were treated early on. Actually, one thing that comes to mind is a controversy with Shug Jordan that gave Bear an edge in recruiting. Shug suspended a couple of black players for their hair not meeting the dress code. It wasn't a racist thing, but it makes you wonder about the situation if the players had to travel 2 hours to get their hair cut. Ironically, Auburn was the first major school in the state to have a black player on their football team.
Let's face it. We are all giddy about passes being completed downfield. We have missed them on a regular basis for a long time.
Amen!
I didn't watch any of the MSU game, how did they look?
I can't imagine caring less what Chris Low thinks about Auburn even if I tried really, really hard.
Peter - Stop deleting your posts!
:-)
Eddie, you are so right. That was one of the most frustrating things about last season. A bubble screen is not necessarily a bad play, but when you never throw the ball down field, the defenders are all over it. The LaTech corners were trying to do the same thing, playing tight on our receivers. That TZach completion will get some notice by future opponents. The corners won't be so anxious to play tight.
Dan- apparently they run the ball well, but that is the extent of my k owledge of them.
Thanks
dan dan, I watched a little of the MSU game, although I was mainly checking out UGA. Their offense started out slow, but the seemed to have worn out the Jax State defense and kicked into gear in the second half.
I wasn't as impressed with the MSU offense as I was with LaTech's. The question will be how good the MSU defense is, which I am not sure about.
Judging from the tv coverage I think Mario has 26" biceps. Also they (the broadcasters) said he was listed as a Fullback. I didn't think we officially had that position in Coach Mahlzahns ludicrous tempo Offense
Steve just imagine how bad regular black students were treated. At least the athletes had a bit more protection. Either way, AU deserves alot of credit for beign progressive (relatively speaking) and very friendly.
The MSU game is available at SEC digital too. I may have to watch it again later this week, but I am much more confident we will beat MSU than I was LaTech.
How so Steve?
I saw Brandon Heavens (one time commit to AU) drop a pass in the MSU game. They must be in the same situation as us as far as WRs. I hope our DL can handle their run game. Dixon didnt play in this first game because of his DUI but he will be here on the Plains.
Monica, I do have to admit that i have post deleted once this evening. That's the problem when you have to go through 84 and when you refresh there's over 100 posts. You then realize your note really makes no sense at all. Sorry to have gotten you a tongue lashing PF
Steve- I still think MSU will be a hard fought game. They are going to come in as confident as us under their new offense. When was the last time they scored that many points. Too early to start being that confident unless you are on the team.
Unless ofcourse you enjoyed it
bingo
Eddie - the last time MSU scored over 40 points was a gainst Jacksonville State in 02 (51-10)
MSU traditionally has a good defense, but I give LaTech credit. They were a good team, a bowl team. They had experienced lines and some real playmakers on offense.
MSU, from what I have seen, isn't that sound on offense. Their defense is likely better than LaTech's, but I am not certain of that.
Any idea what MSU is bringing back from 08? And as I say that it really doesn't matter - look at what we're bringing back from last year. There is something to be said about a good coaching staff that works together.
Steve- conference games are no gimmies. No matter how bad you think a team is.
Unless your conference is the Big East
Eddie, I don't think MSU is bad. I think LaTech was a good football team.
So I guess I will keep this as my avatar and go watch every game at my buddies house until that mojo stops!
Exactly mytommy. I'll keep wearing Blue to the stadium.
Lolz @ Mr.TD and.....bingo.
I think MSU is still going to struggle with their offense a bit. They didnt have a WR with over 3 catches. I think they will rely on Dixon alot as a runner and perhaps a few wildcat type plays from him.
Comment deleted
Should MSU develop a solid offense, they will become a major concern. They have always been tough defensively.
Anyone know how often we substituted on defense. Are there young'ns getting some playing time on the D line?
All I know is that they were calling Nick Fairley's name ALOT!!
Mytommy- defense substituted a lot during at most positions.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Well on the whole then Eddie , I'd say that worked out pretty good for us then, right? Penalties aside.
Mytommy- agreed
I think Jay's post earlier listed 15 defensive players who made tackles. We did play a lot. Rocker said he intended to play everyone.
How quickly we substituted was incredible to me. I am watching the game and trying to keep up with who is on the field.
BTW, UGA was the only SEC team not to lose their first game - do y'all know how great its going to be going to work Tuesday when you're SURROUNDED by Dawg fans that were ready to claim the SEC and national Championships last Friday?!?!?!
From what they were saying later in the broadcast Steve, is that Mahlzahn doesn't want to have to substitute (yeah I switched to the offense) so he could dictate which defensive group had to stay on the field. Genius man, pure frikkin genius. I hope we can keep him for a while or two.
tommy, the substitutions on offense were so quick, the defense could do nothing. Even when Kodi went in, he ran out immediately and they lined up. I expected more problems with substitution than we saw.
As for substitutions, I am about through watching the first half and I am not seeing substitutions at linebacker. There was plenty of substitutions in the secondary. Harry Adams and Demond Washington were out there a lot. On the line, I see Ricks, Blanc, Goggans, Coleman, and Fairley primarily in the game. I thought I saw Lykes in once. I know he played some in the second half.
Very very cool Steve. Although I must say cautious optimism has taken a big hit from the new exuberant giddiness that trying to work its way in.
Stub Hub has 1,770 tickets for sale for the WVU game.
FYI
Mon, what kind of feeling are you getting from WV fans. My impression from what I heard about their first game is they are having issues.
This comment has been removed by the author.
Nice change there Lady Mon
Well, now you can ask them if Liberty can score 20 on their mighty defense, how many points do you think our offense will score?
Just took a look at the HABOTN picks.Evidently Eddie and Sensi DO know what they're talking about, and I'm just barely making money if I were a bettin' man. Which I'm not.
I keep posting with the wrong name. So now I'm a deleter too.
I said congrats to Sensi on his Pickem win already so I'm not giving him any more congrats. :-)
WV is a game that I considered questionable earlier. I feel better about our chances now. If we get passed WV, the next big question mark will be Tennessee.
I want to hate UT SOO bad. I don't mind that their D is going to be good, but I just think Lanie is a little punk that needs a little humble pie served up.
Florida is likely to humble Kiffikin pretty good.
Arkansas really drew up a suck football schedule. Check out this order of games. There are no breaks. They could easily lose all of these.
UGA, @ALA, @TexA&M, AUB, @UF, @OM

And on that note Steve, have a great nite. War Eagle to all the Hotties that might still be up, talk to you later on!
Translation of Michael's post = Bo Jackson.
I love when Jason Stackhouse gets all Rambo. He is such a trip.
we were 8/12 on 3rd down conversions. Me likey!
1700 tickets on stub hub? Are those tix that were bought by WVU fans who now want to dump them after watching WVU's performance against Liberty?
No THT - They are all Auburn tickets. Some of them are club seats.
that's interesting. I would never sell my tickets like that.
THT how long does it take you to drive to Auburn?
there's no telling what kind of riffraff might buy one's tickets. I mean, what if it's not an Auburn fan? It should be a felony to sell AU tickets to a non-Auburn fan. And the asking price for those club level seats is absurd.
it's 500 miles EXACTLY. We hardly ever do it all at once because we usually don't leave until after work on Friday. We can get to Newnan, GA by midnight or shortly thereafter. I did drive down there (and back) on A-Day Saturday. That was insane. It takes about 8 hours total, including gas/food/potty breaks. I can make it in 7.5 if I don't drink DCs all the way down there ;-)
and you're going to all the home games?
heavens no. We wish we could. That is the only thing I miss about living in Marietta, GA. We try to make it to half the home games. This year: La Tech, WVU, Ole Miss, UA-T. Plus we are going to BTR to see them play LSwho.
after going to the dvr, i am even more pleased than i was observing in person last night. if we can keep that last guy from getting to OM as he gets to the corner (or keep kodi out of his way) there are many TDs in his future.
mr. todd can throw all the imaginary passes in practice that he desires. keep that arm rested and healthy and AU will go a long way. that one pass to fannin hung in the air because the play was basically broken at that point and he was throwing to the spot where fannin was rather than on timing and he was running for his life. it would be hard for brett favre to make that throw and not get his WR cleaned out by the safety. i did not see CT make one poor decision last night.
i loved CTT chewing benton from the hash mark to the bench after he screwed up the same route two consecutive plays. DB never saw the field again. that's coaching baby!!!
i need to get some binoculars so I can see who's chewing out whom on the AU bench. They just look like fire ants from where I sit. Or maybe I just need new glasses.
almost 1 a.m. here, which means it's almost 7 a.m. in Florence. 2.0, I hope you don't oversleep after being up in the middle of the night! I should probably call it a night. Sweet dreams, Hotties!
Good point chip chip. I just got through watching that play where Todd threw the floater to Fannin. The pocket was breaking down. He was on the move and saw another LaTech defender coming free to his right, so he had to get rid of the ball quickly. It was a great throw. The LaTech DB just did a great job breaking up the pass.
Mario's gotta go get that ball instead of waiting on it. He didn't leap at all.
And I too loved the CTT arse shewing and something else, notice CGC's comments about "watching the game" when asked abou the out'n up.
I'm thinking CTT saw the DB jump the route the play before!!!
WAR DAMN No Tony Franklin!!!
Is there any information about the reason for the change in the field paint scheme? I hadn't seen anything about it, but the interlocking AU on the 50 was orange on Saturday night. They also did away with the thick orange trim down the sidelines, going with just a thin white line.
The Roof.
The Roof.
Ted Roof is on FIRE!!
I don't know if anyone has mentioned this:
McCalebb's wrist
Morning Hotties - coming to you live from beautiful A21 at Atlanta's very own Hartsfield-Jackson Int'l Airport heading once again to LAX. I'll get to drive right through the burning areas yet again. I'm so lucky. Shame on me for booking my business trips so far in advance and not paying attention to the fact that today's a holiday.
A great weekend to be an AU fan and a nice ribbon put on the package with this commit. I'm really excited about the rest of the season but perhaps more so about next year since I expect we'll have an excellent recruiting class for '10.
Keep Hate Alive.
Good morning, Hotties and War Eagle! I'm trying not to be too overly optimistic about this season, since the first game was La Tech, but, that sure was exciting to watch. Everyone keeps talking about how fast O.C. is - and I am certainly not denying that - but what about T.Z.? I thought for sure the guy had the angle on him, but T.Z. just outran him.
oops, that should be *O.Mc.
Best thing about Coach Malzhan in a post game interview:
He doesn't look like a disheveled drunk or call himself a dumbass. He's direct, sharp, and smart.
Nice change of pace.
morning o' den of hottness.
sure is nice to wake up on a monday morning after a victory. time to hit the dvr myself. seems i'm a bit behind most of you assistant coaches. :)
More points:
Zachary at wideout is much faster this year. This is no doubt due to the fact he dropped 20 pounds from last year. He went from the 225 region to around 200.
Ok, agreed, Todd didnt have a cannon, but it was a VAST difference from last year that I was amazed. He did take to long on the hit to Mario, but his pump fakes and reads left me very happy. He checked off some plays. He seems to have a grasp of the offense.
Best Scene= Kodi Burns scoring and finding Chris Todd to congratulate one another. That was sweet.
I read where all the guys missing dont have to be on the sidelines. I know thats nothing new but its weird to me. I know its hard to watch from the sideline but I wish they would have dressed out with the team and walked out on the field. Its saves me having to ask where they are at.
Darvin Adams was as advertised. He reminded me of the days of Obaman and Aromashadu.
Last night we watched the Auburn Tigers, Everyday show, then a replay of the game, and then the Tigers Postgame Review show. I was worn out all over again. It is amazing how much I missed watching the game live at the stadium Saturday night. I'm going to have to learn to watch faster!
I just finished watching the game for a second time. I just love seeing how well this team plays together. They have that team unity from the get go. Auburn has traditionally started slowly and the team usually comes together 4 or 5 games into the season. These guys, coaches and players alike, were just clicking together.
Chizik is a great coach. Why? A great coach chooses a great staff and lets them do their job. A great coach doesn't whip his assistants in line. A great coach chooses assistants that don't need whipping.
This season depth will likely catch up to us as some point, but this is a well coached team.
"He doesn't look like a disheveled drunk or call himself a dumbass"
Awesome...
THT,
Have you thought of doing a negative countdown? Like today is the 2nd day since the season started... so you take th worst player you rememer wearing # 2? Then you write an article just bashing that player and get it up on the front page. It'll keep things fair and balanced.
:-)
Steve, let's not call Chizik a great coach just yet.
Let him at least coach 3 games first.
RK, the thing is, coaching games isn't what makes for a great head coach. The head coach is a manager and I thought him great before the season began because of the decisions that he has made.
WERK - I actually thought about a T plus {insert time} since kickoff countdown, or count up, I suppose. Then I thought to myself, THT, are you nuts? And no, I'm not that nuts.
A great coach changes kids lives, helps mold them into better memebers of society, sets a great image for your school, wins games & wins championships.
You need time to determine who is a great coach.
I haven't been able to watch almost the entire 2nd half. The video at secdigitialcrapwork just freezes and won't continue downloading. I've tried twice. Each time I have to let it play all the way through to that point; I can't just drag the play cursor to that point to see if it will play. I think it's time I broke down and got dvr capability. Excuse me while I go call TWC.
well, I guess we're going to have to do this on our own since Norm is stuck at 38,000 feet somewhere.
^^^^^Lousy thread killer. Oh wait, that's me!
Hi, Tar Heel! We're really gonna need that Map of the Stars. I couldn't remember where anyone tailgated (not that that surprises some of you).
War Eagle, I'm so glad it's finally football season. And the sun is looking brighter today than it did a week ago.
Can't wait for the MSU game.
Wake, me neither! How many more days is it??
As a very special favor to the most wonderful person I know, MrsTHT, I will be attending a wedding Saturday at 5 pm. Dinner to follow. And I'm guessing they won't have TVs in the dining room, especially TVs with GamePlan. So I must have DVR capability by then.
Come on folks, let's do this for Norm!
Surely I'm not the only one who smells it.
No, I'm not talking about the "you smelt it, you dealt it" smell
