First Post: Monday of Week Three
Hey everyone. Sunday was a pretty normal day. I was intrigued by a couple things discussed on Gene Chizik's teleconference Sunday.
The first was a question about how Auburn is making things look easy on the field. Chizik's answer to that query became my Monday story. Check it below.
The second was a question from West Virginia about how Chizik overcame his Iowa State struggles. He replied that it was a "long time ago" (less than 10 months) and that he doesn't get validation from the outside world.
He may someday get paid because of that validation he claims to eschew. His contract provides substantial bonuses based on where his team finishes in polls (as judged by "outsiders") and if he wins a major coaching award (as judged by "outsiders"). Outside validation is worth up to $200,000 per year for Gene Chizik.
Chizik may not care about that, but his investment banker may have a different opinion.
Here's the Auburn situation at this moment:

200!
crap, you got me.
sorry Norm.
scottie, I feel just awful for doing that to you after you complimented me. Just so dern crummy.
If I could delete those earlier comments, I would scottie. You have to believe me.
I bet Fannin is a lock for most tackles by a punt returner.
i believe in you michael. always and forever.
Cincy... Need to make a $100k? Sell some cookies.
I am reseting my goals for the punt return team. Catch the ball, no fumbles, don't tackle a teammate. Now, hopefully we will meet those goals.
And I have one major goal for the season. I want to go through one game without hearing those dreaded works "illegal motion, number 73". If they say that any more often, it will become part of our fight song.
I thought Ziemba broke his 13 game streak last week.
if they keep splitting him out wide SFC you may not have to worry about that. well, um, maybe not.
nope .... sorry... I heard number 73 with this or that penalty at least twice. Then he took a bow and went back to the huddle.
Neither this game's, nor the previous game's false start was Ziemba's fault.
The center slowed down the snap. Ziemba just happens to be at the worst location for communication / visual.
Aaaand I'd rather have him false start once a game but be there on time, than be slow / late to block / miss assignment the entire game.
maybe Lee Z's tempo is just so FAH that he can't slow it down. i'd blame the other 4 linemen. ;)
Ziemba means "off-sides" in the Ar-Kans-as dialect
You know you are a football fan when you glance over a headline that says, "Obama warns Wall Street not to block tighter regs" and think, "Wait, what did Obama say about a blocking tight end?"
Aeronaut, you are using some fuzzy math.
I remember the one where the entire offense moved except the center, so clearly not 73's fault.
scottie...
We need some hats. I understand the embroidery guy may be causing problems. I got a guy. If you need my guy to pay a visit to your guy, just say the word.
ehyou "Sonny" tiger
There was another 73 false start in addition to the non-snap... wasn't there?
Ziemba has had an illegal motion penalty in both games. There is no excuse for that. No self respecting American official could miss those, and he would definitely get low marks from the Russian judge.
I loved being a center, because you were never off sides. You might have have been early and broken the finger that was under your rear, or been late while everybody else moved, but you were NEVER off-sides.
And for heaven's sack, if you are getting an illegal motion penalty, at least get a lick in on the defender!!! No more of these sissy twitches. If you are going to get a penalty, make it worth it!!!
