Gus Malzahn earns his first Auburn honor

Hey everyone. Auburn's offensive czar has been earned National Coordinator of the Week honors from our friends at Rivals.com.

His nomination was no surprise.

The Tigers rank No. 2 among the 120 FBS teams in rushing offense (345.5 yards per game) and fourth in total offense (572.5 yards per game) so far this season.

No team has run more plays from scrimmage than Auburn's 162.

I read a blog that is concerned over our defense. Am I mistaken that our defense is ranked in the top 10?

Also, we have been playing a ton of young players on defense. I read somewhere we played 21 or 22 players on defense against MSU.

This defense is solid. As long as our linebackers hold up, we are good to go.

As for the secondary, I love them. With Bates coming around, it has become the strength of the defense.

Didn't hear Mr.U, but did have a discussion with a buddy about when 9/11 jokes would start making their routes on the comedy circuit. Every major tragedy in history (some which I consider way worse than 9/11) has passed the "too soon" mark and become a source for funny, but of very bad taste, jokes from edgy comedians.

10:57 PM

Blogger E-Bro said...

I worry less about coordinator turnover with Chiz. Not saying it won't be an issue, but I don't think it will be something that defines Chiz like it did Tubs. For one thing, I think people will like working for Chiz more because he'll do them the favor of making sure they get where they want to be: a head coach somewhere. That's something that Tubs didn't do for his coaches and it's a big reason why Chiz left for Texas.

10:58 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

It is also possible that Gus would love to stay an OC in the right situation. Take Borges for example. I don't think he was interested in doing the HC thing any longer. I got the impression he was wanting to settle in a long term position as OC.

Pretty sure no SEC school is going to take a risk on a coach, 4 years out of being a High School coach, yall are being delusional

What Mr. U said wasn't a joke. It was a controversial statement. I don't really think it was worth banning him, but that's not my call.

I don't think there are term limits on CIW. Jimbo'll probably die with that title.

What sections do the visitors sit in?

Why isn't AU selling out this WVU game? this is the biggest game probaly since 2007

Well, I'm not going to worry about who leaves, who stays, and how long they are going to be at Auburn. I'm enjoying the moment. I like what I've seen. I'm enjoying the games again. And I'm looking forward to Saturday! This season is flying by too fast when it took so long to get here.

I think Jimbo gets $5 million if he's not the head coach in 2011.

He has a provision.

Jimbo gets 2 million if Bowden stays after this year...

I agree, Kathy. I am just excited to be excited for a change!

It's actually $2.5 million.

One interesting thing about Muschamp and CIW. Say the crazies somehow get their way in Athens and Richt is gone in the next year or two. You gotta think UGA would make a hard (and very possibly successful) push for Muschamp, especially if it looks like Mack Brown is sticking around for another five years.

One of the more interesting things is what is happening with the NFL. I don't think coaches are as quick to jump to the NFL as they use to be. There have been a lot of great college coaches become unemployed NFL coaches.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

by the way, 6 game season ticket packages are still available for $300 bucks, no TUF donation required.

11:04 PM
Blogger JgobravesHAG said...

Ugh it angers me theres still season tickets available.

11:05 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Phred, I think like 35-36, then somewhere up top in the east.

11:06 PM
Blogger ADP said...

I know, that's why I'm asking about the visitors section. I can get one ticket in sec 12, row 19. Is that visitors?

11:06 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Unlike Fisher, Muschamp doesn't have a timetable guarantee. He could take that Georgia job ... and I'd have to think UGA would be interested.

Though Mack Brown is smitten with Muschamp, as he should be. Dude can coach em up.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

I'm with ya, JHAG...

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Section 12 is most definitely not visitor.

11:08 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Auburn has some deal going right now where $300 gets you tickets to the six remaining home games.

Not too shabby.

11:08 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I don't anticipate Richt being gone after this season, but if UGA doesn't look a lot better as the season progresses, things could start to heat up.

11:08 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

No it's not PF

11:09 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Phred, I think those are Auburn sections. Visitors are on the other end.

I'd be surprised if Boom does actually wind up HC at Texas. I think someone else will snag him. But what do I know?

Martinez is gone after this season. Richt is not.

Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

No it's not, what?

11:10 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

There really needs to be a HABOTN section in JHS. We could come up with some cool nickname for it, like the hot pocket or something. Ummm, I will work on that.

11:10 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Visitors...I was agreeing with you.

11:10 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Got to believe there will be several Bama fans buying up some season tickets for $300 that includes a ticket to the Iron Bowl. I hate that.

11:10 PM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Yeah, I think Muschamp is taking a patient back approach to the CIW position. I live out in Denver and made it out to Laramie for the Texas-Wyoming game and sat with the Texas fans. They love him to death out there; he's a cult figure. But the allure of his alma mata would be mighty tempting I would think.

if i go to the halloween game dressed as marcus lattimore, do you think i could sneak into the recruits' primo seats?

i only need to grow about 6" and get some cornrows and a tan and i'll be all set!!! i'll have to improve my 40 time too or they may get suspicious...
