I think Zachary's TD of 93 yards had the total yardage of all of our TD's that weren't returns from last year.

We need to work on the redzone a little bit, but I like what I saw after we got things going in the 2nd half.

9:37 PM
Blogger Monica said...

CB are you still here? Do you remember that game where you, Robin and I were sitting in the endzone and someone was running a touchdown toward us? I think it may have been the LSU game? Who was running?

We have got to some LB help and soon. Our starters got tired.

9:38 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

We had 29 firstdowns, which is incredible.

I would like to see us get more receivers involved.

I would like to see Fannin and McCalebb off the kickoff and punt return teams. They are too big a part of our offense to risk. Put some of the receivers in there. Have PPL return kicks and punts.

I know it's just the first game and I'm sky high and La Tech is not SEC caliber but I liked what I was seeing tonight. We are going to be okay. We may stump our toes occasionally but things are looking up.

9:45 PM

So, just because I are about 40 pounds of lasagna today doesn't necessarily mean I was nervous.

9:45 PM

We played with fire in the belly. That's something we haven't seen since 04.

9:45 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

La Tech spent all summer thinking this would be the game that put them on the map, a lot of people in the media thought we'd get upset.

We gave them hope in the first half, but I love the way we responded after the 2nd quarter lull. That wouldn't have happened last year.

I wouldn't go as far as compare this to 04 at all, but it was nice tonight.

9:46 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Okay, I am giving 10 to 1 odds. I am betting we score more than the 5 points we scored against MSU last season.

9:47 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

All that being said, if the offense plays well all year long, don't expect Gus to be back next year...as he'll be a HC somewhere.

9:47 PM
Blogger Monica said...

Well, Mobile, I tell ya. Coach Gus is pretty, but he has no shoulders, no calves, he couldn't keep his pants up, etc. I like my men more solid than that, ya know. As I am a perfect physical specimen myself, I demand perfection.

But I still love him.

9:48 PM
Blogger AUnMobilz (CAM-"Da Man") said...

RK, shut yo mouth!!!!

9:48 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

It is not 04. I am not sure if the offense is as good as 05. But we have a good offense. If the receivers get more involved, it could be great.

As for the defense, the depth is killing us at linebacker.

9:48 PM
Blogger AUnMobilz (CAM-"Da Man") said...

I believe my overly optimistic prediction was 500 yards of offense. Hmmmm, I underestimated.

9:49 PM
Blogger Monica said...

I'm living in the moment. I don't care who is here next year. I don't care about anything other than we just won and this feels a hellova lot better than it has in a couple of years. We played with passion, we had a 556 yard GAME for the love of all that is holy!

So, I'm enjoying it as it comes.

9:50 PM
Blogger AUnMobilz (CAM-"Da Man") said...

is it just me or did it seem La Tech was saying what we all knew already" Dam the guy McCallabb is Fast As Hell"!!!!

9:50 PM
Blogger j-z said...

Ok...let me clarify. We played with an intensity that I haven't seen since 04. No, we don't have the talent that we did in 04, but we may have the heart this year.

9:50 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

To me this looks like at least an 8 win team. With a lot of luck in terms of injuries, we could do better. UGA looked beatable today.

9:51 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

j-z, I think you are referring to the attitude and I must agree. While the receivers didn't get that involved, the offensive players played with intensity. The defense stepped up in the second half too.

10:03 PM

Steve, I believe that the coaches were taking what La. Tech was giving us. They were tight on our wide outs so they threw more to the H back and RB. However, how much more do you want the WRs to get than Terrell Zachery?

Mr. Roof looked cool, calm, and collected even with all that youth out there tonight....geez we are thin

Nice win.

So apparently the new regime likes running the starter with 20 seconds left to pad the stats... still don't know what I think about that. That is a great sales pitch to give to Dyer and Seastrunk, but not sure how classy it is.

10:06 PM

AU looked good at times tonight. I think the 1st half was just nerves, or at least I hope they were. W/O the turnovers and penalties this game could have been ugly quick, but they are part of the game and must be eliminated. Glad to get a big win and not slow down the 2nd half. Also thought AU made adjustments in the 2nd half that really did not happen last year.

AU had a few passes that were dropped, but The one to Trott really was pas interference. The DB had his short and the ref did not see it. Even the replay on the scoreboard showed it. I think Fannin and Adams will be doing some extra work for the drops.

10:17 PM
Blogger michael said...

I'm not saying going for stats was wrong, it was just Urban Meyerish, and opposite of Tubs. The team probably needs that sort of attitude right about now. It certainly helps with recruiting.

But still, after talking trash about that sort of thing for so many years, it will take some adjusting for me to see the good guys doing it.

You MJT Quick Bullet Summary Of Love:

Fairly = Awesome. Best surprise of the night, he was beastly
Todd's Arm Strength = oh what a nice surprise. Around Cox strength (including Cox's patented one hopper on an out route) with a quicker release and better mobility. A little inaccurate at times, blame it on nerves
Ontario McIrishman* =
Bates = Really Nice hands on the interception
Receivers = Caught some tough balls tonight, even made em look easy
Fannin = Makes Tre Smith look like a punt catching virtuoso = let's get him a few snaps running straight ahead into the line from the rb position, that is what he is best at
Kodi Burns = nice to see he is a solid contributor, not out there due to pity from the coaches. Good story.

On plays in which Todd pump faked, he was like 3/4 with two TDs. He should pump fake every play.

What's up with that weird reach around handoff? Is that really necessary?

Tate early, McIrishman late is going to be sweet music all year long I think.

*I tried to write what McIrishman equaled, but he was too fast. He was gone before I had a chance.

Steve, I think that Trott was doing his usual SAH routes. I did see at least one pass to Benton that was not catchable. Blake, I think played very little. Carr did get in the game right at the end, but that is the only time I remember seeing him. I still believe that the coaches took what La. Tech gave them and I can't fuss with that.

rk - dead wrong. Tackling a load early makes it easier for McIrishman to break big ones late. It is the New York Giants strategy with Jacobs and Bradshaw/Ward, and it has worked wonders. Tackling a man takes more out of you than chasing a couple of more steps to take down a 170 lb rb

I'm not done being upset with Ziemba. I'm not sure what his punishment is going to be, but it will not be the kind of punishment you like.

Bramblett has improved. I haven't listened to him in quite some time. His announcing is much better than it was a few years ago.

Hey Micheal....."Whatever" we should have lost so we would really have something to talk about!!!

That first La Tech scoring drive was crazy... bogus pass interference, two legit facemasks in a row, dang. 45 stinking yards. They better score.

Evening Hots and WDE!! I just got back from being ALL ORANGE at Jordan Hare. Great to see a real live offense with vertical passes that get caught by our guys!

Omnica, I have asked Jay Tate to slap Ziemba the next time he sees him and tell him Steve said no jumping offsides. What more can I do?

Did anyone post that the eagle took off tonight and circled on the east side once and then flew out of the stadium, disappeared, came back in, circled twice and almost hit a couple of folks in the upper deck and then swooped down the toward the end zone, flew between the goalposts before landing on the field.

It was awesome to see.

I was surprised how many times in the first half that 6"3 230ish LB Craig Stevens lined up out in the flat against a La Tech WR

HA Love the avatar, BigCat! Way to represent in the ALL ORANGE. Was the atmosphere salacious???

wtc, are you serious about the eagle?

The reach around handoff worked. I'm not going to argue.

Wait... Michael just tricked me into saying reach around. Next I'll have to start driving a Murano.

I heard them describe Spirit's flight on the pregame show with Brambleberetet

j-z - I don't know how else to describe it. I think it fits. At least we now know Todd has some common courtesy.

When is the last time our offense was rolling like this this early in the season? It certainly wasn't in 2003, 2004, 2005. We always seem to start slow offensively. This season we were on from the very first drive.

Make Ziemba lose weight as punishment.

10:34 PM
Blogger wtc said...

missinit, yes. It could have been the worse flight ever, but it turned out to be the best I've seen in many years.

Spirit is our eagle's name??
Where in the world did I get War Eagle VII? That student said Nova in the commercial thingy.

10:35 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

If Ziemba keeps it up like this, I swear we are going to hear a ref say illegal motion on you know who.

Blogger WarEagleRK said...

michael - I'm not dead wrong.

Either strategy works well.

Tate suddenly looks FAH after the D is worn down.

10:36 PM
Blogger IV said...

I think I am correct in saying Spirit is our bald eagle and Nova is our Golden Eagle and they rotate the flights between them.

10:36 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I like Tate wearing them out early. Tired players attempting to catch FAH is a good thing.

10:37 PM
Blogger michael said...

That first play that included the reach around handoff included Todd stumbling, and the odd handoff made it look like a video game. Like via some glitch the ball magically appeared in the running back's hand.

10:37 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I thought Nova has some kind of health issues.

10:38 PM
Blogger wtc said...

I do not have the program with me tonight, but I think there is actually three of them.Nova and Spirit are two of them, but there is one other.

10:38 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Either way works...it wasn't like they were stopping Tate late in the game tonight after they were tired.
