WERK-They were all in except they were all in a funk.

This group is impressive in many ways. One being that only Chizik and Boulware were on the same team last year. Everyone else came from a different team than the HC.

Anyone remember how several of us thought Franklin needed to bring his assistants or someone with him to get his offense going last year. I don't think Malzahn brought anyone, but everyone bought into the system, and it started with the HC.

Not doggin' anyone but just sayin'.

I think war eagle girl makes a great point when she remarks about about how we didn't sit on the ball right before half. That was a trademark last year and it gave us a great vibe going into the locker room. I was mighty please with that decision

Was yesterday's stadium not filled up? That is disappointing. I guess the Season of Death really did a number on the fan base.

The stadium was full except for those new sections in the east upper deck. They haven't filled those seats since they added them.

6:16 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

WERK, did you notice that twice MS ST players had one of the AU players pinned on the ground after the play was over? The second time I saw it, it looked they were punching the AU player and the Referee was standing right there watching it.

6:19 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Addendum to stadium being filled: the only time I've seen those seats in the newer sections filled is two years ago when AU played UAT.

6:23 AM
Blogger Kathy said...

Saw that too Luv. I think everyone in the stadium did EXCEPT the refs. Very unsportsmanlike.

6:24 AM
Blogger Kathy said...

Off to work. Everyone have an orange and blue day and try to stay dry.

6:26 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I noticed that a couple of times.

Miss State is always a team that plays with a chip on its shoulder. I believe that started in the Jackie Sherrill era when he would give a scholarship to anyone willing to come there and play.

6:31 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Have a great day, Kathy! War Eagle!

6:31 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Chip on your shoulder or not, discipline is something coaches need to instill their players and that kind of behavior shouldn't be tolerated. That's one thing I've always admired about AU. They rarely do stuff like that.

6:37 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I was concerned with three or four times where I saw Eric Smith pushing and shoving after plays.

6:43 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Apparently the Tiger Rags game shirt this week doesn't have Aubie beating up the WVU mascot.

I guess they have taken enough abuse on the shirts they have created lately.

6:46 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I didn't see that with Eric Smith, but I'm sure the coaches won't tolerate it and, hopefully, you won't see it again.

6:56 AM
Blogger AllenD said...

re: pinning players down...some coaches reward "cockroaching, pancaking, etc" opposing players, to the point that pinning them to the ground (testing their manhood)is rewarded - if I remember correctly, to a degree we used to do this with our Oline, though I don't remember as much laying on them when they were down.

(Note: I didn't see the incident in question )

6:58 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

What's the shirt this week, RK?

7:00 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love how ESPN is on the attack against Serena for her expletive-laced tirade against an official. However, when their own Dana Jacobson used a similar expletive and a religious slur, it was all swept under the rug as fast as possible.

7:03 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Sensi, the front is a a tiger holding up a helmet and it says Fearless and True. On the back, it says Fight On You Orange and Blue.

7:03 AM

The shirt is just Aubie holding up a helmet and it says "Fearless and True".

Very plain.

Manhood, schmanhood. Two or three people holding one person down and punching him does NOT prove one's manhood.

There is a difference in a pancake or cockroach block and just mauling someone after a play.

7:15 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

I love how Barry asserts that all Gus Malzhan is doing is "getting out of the way" of the playmakers and the other coaches are all on the same page. As if those were the only problems with last year.

7:15 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

It is interesting watching a lot of the same people we had last year just look like different players.

It shows how disfunctional last season was.

morning hotties. ready to beat WVA. so glad to have football weekends to look forward to again. so nice.

So RK, think we seperated ourselves from Miss State?

That game was almost what I expected, other than the defense giving up the run between the tackles.

WERK, contrary to what some of you may think, I'm not an idiot. I do know the difference.

7:30 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

I'd say so. I seriously think for local public perception we needed that kind of win over Miss State. Too many people in the SEC media were saying there wasn't much difference between the two programs heading into this year.

7:31 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Luv,

I was actually defending your stance with my comment.

7:31 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Monica may be right and WVU might be better than they look on paper so far this year, but I feel pretty confident about this game this weekend.

7:33 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

The coaches are LEADING the way. A playbook that contains multiple deceptions on most all plays makes it easier for blocking and WRs to get open. The increased attention to detail and fundamentals helps also. Not sure how "Gus" is getting out of the way.

The WR fundamentals are now solid. Even though we had good WRs in 2004 and 2005, their fundamentals were marginal at best.

7:38 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Hoopie,

Ask the NFL how our WR's fundamentals were. All of our WR's once they got to the NFL have been behind the learning curve in recent years.

7:39 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I too feel good about this week's game, but it will be a high scoring affair. The WVU QB looks pretty darn good early on and with Noel Divine, they will move the ball.

7:41 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Why are we worried about the perception/opinon of the SEC press or any press? Who cares...it's all speculation and has no value today. At the end of the day our record will speak for itself.

I personally like it when CGC says that he doesn't get validation from the outside and hope he sticks to his guns.

It'll be interesting to see the AU fans turn on the coach a few years in the future when a troubled season occurs and the fans start whining b/c CGC is ignoring them for validation.

7:44 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i haven't seen any film of WVA this year yet so i'm not sure what to expect. a re-peat of the MSU game would be fantastic, though.

7:45 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

RK...I have screamed about our poor WR fundamentals for so long I can't remember when it started.

I can see it on film (slo-mo helps these old eyes) and don't need to go anywhere else.

7:48 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Eddie..this may be one of those 38-35 games with the last team that scores...winning. The defenses will be gassed in the 4th qtr and I'm not even sure home field helps at that point.

7:50 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Hoopie,

I think from a program perception to the media and recruits we had to beat Miss State pretty big.

We had to establish that our program had not fallen into the bottom of the SEC ranks.

7:50 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

...or maybe it was just for me to hopefully make sure we aren't mentioned in the same breath as the Miss States and the Vandys again.

Good morning Luv, Scottieb, Eddie, Hoopie, WERK and all you other usual and customary morning Hotties. I just caught up from reading where I left off after last night. I'm compelled to correct another of Jet's slanderous attacks - while it may have been true that multiple married Hotties wanted to leave their respective spouces for j-zhag, I WAS NOT one of them.

Jet needs to quit spreading his lies. If he does not cease and desist immediately, I'll sue him, ACORN and Fox News. Jet ain't nothin' but a liar. He ain't never been nothin' but a liar.

LUV, Eddie, Scottieb - sorry we missed y'all Saturday. Sorry I missed the rest of you too but as far as I know, you're the only 3 on the blog currently.

OOPS! Sorry, WERK! It's SO hard to tell from the written word how the writer is intending it to be read.

8:41 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

WERK....the recruits I've known don't disect the inuendos tof the press's representations. The scores ,coaches, existing players, fans support is what counts.

A recruit that is hung up on press coverage probably has emotional baggage. That is soooooo 90's.

8:41 AM
Anonymous Anonymous said...

Norm....this is awful. The HABOTN has almost quit the bickering over the ex-coach's problems and now a rift in a longstanding friendship erupts all over the HABOTN....it's so emo....what to do.

I'm taking Norm's side...why?...because of the integrity he has displayed nailing the 200th post...he's earned my loyalty.

8:48 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Norm- One of these days we will meet up.

In lieu of tailgating with Hotties since I could find none, I spent the couple of hours I had before the game talking to David Housel and former Offensive Lineman Tim Castro.

I plan on being around early for this game for a change, so maybe the mauraders can meet up again.

8:49 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Hoopie - I thank you for your support. I take no pleasure calling out Jet in such a public manner. I remind you, I've known Jet for probably 30 years.

Wait a minute. Who am I kidding? I DO take pleasure in calling him out publicly.

WERK, after last season, I thought he was going to be the last person to get a false start penalty.
