Hmmm, that probably wasn't a very polite way to describe that. Apologies to Cincy (but no one else).

I'm gonna guess that Hoopie is one of the outliers on the celebration deal.

To me, it's just not a big deal if it's not directed at the opposition and it's not prolonged or choreographed.

It's not sociology gone wrong or the fall of Western Civilization, it's the natural expression of joy of accomplishment -- whether individual or team.

Unless it's Tebow, then it's self-aggrandizement in the first degree.

Evening gang! Let me reiterate that the new blue prototype helmet is 5-0. Oh sure I'm sure coaching and the players had a little to do with it, but I'm sticking with the new bluew prototype helmet... among other things.

Funny in Atlanta all the fuss about how the messed up call blew any chances of UGA winning. And I don't recall who posted the link, but the piece on Mahlzahn's way to attack UT's defense was great. Thank you whoever did that.

A question about the celebration deal. At the end of one of the touchdowns against Ball St. someone (I want to say it was a receiver) and another guy on our team did a little high five/arms across the chest thing. No flag. Was there supposed to be a flag?

7:28 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

Will Richt survive a season like that?

7:29 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

My guess is that the dogs go down to Tennessee, Florida, Auburn, and Georgia Tech. That would leave them 5-7. They really need this game against Tennessee.

7:29 PM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I must say work was rather quiet today. I just smiled. But I must say as long as Crompton is QB UGA will have a good chance at winning that one.

7:29 PM

Yes, we did get the condo!! We were negotiating during the AU-TN game. I was a nervous wreck.

I begged the loan agent to let us close the Friday before the KY game, but he said there was no way. We hope to close the next week so we are having a huge party for the Ole Miss game.

I am so excited!!!!! Y'all come.

I have convinced myself to be not as concerned this week as I was last week. I have seen that this coaching staff will have this team ready to play regardless of the opponent. This is contrary to the recent past. I believe that Gus will have a great game plan for Arky and I believe that the defensive staff will to the best of their abilities have the players playing hard and doing what is necessary to be winners. In other words, just as is in the Auburn Creed, I believe in Auburn and love it.

Blogger coosa said...

Hey Eddie - I got a meeting tonight and won't be able to call in. If I could call in, the thing I would try to do is to pin Sensi down and get him to say what it would take for him to believe. Would winning the next 3 games do it?

Sensi - listening to Eli is the worst experience on the radio for me. Its too bad for me to just put the game on and listen, but if I am traveling and uat is playing, I'll just flip to it every once in a while. Sometimes I have to listen for 15 minutes just to hear the score. Very hard to tell what's going on listening to him. I will say I think he's gotten a little better the last couple of years.

I enjoy listening to Rod and Stan and I don't understand the criticism of them. They describe the game very well and seldom miss anything significant. They are obviously homers, but that's exactly what I want for an Auburn game. They don't measure up to Buddy Rutledge and Charlie Davis, but neither does anyone else.

Sensi - I'm not a rah-rah guy either. Really, I'm not. I just thought if this team got off to a good start that they could have a very special year.

Put it this way - you were the first to call me a kool-aid drinker. I posted before the season that if AU could just win the first 4 games, something I thought entirely possible, then a 10-2 season was not out of the question. So I guess you defined a kool-aid drinker as one who believes AU could go 10-2 this year. ;)

Using that definition, when could you become a kool-aid drinker? I presume that if we win the first 10 that you would have little choice at that point? ;)

I shouldn't have called you that, Coosa.

I mean it as someone who blindly believes their team can always win. That's clearly not what you are and I apologize for mislabeling you.

Rod gives you the down and distance, he does a decent job of telling us what happened on the play and who is on the field before the play, the formation, his voice inflections tell you how the play is going as much as his words.

I don't know what else I want from a play-by-play guy. Stan does complain about bad calls, but he points out when we get a bad one in our favor, and doesn't mind letting us know that he's happy about it.

I think the AU football broadcast is very professional and I don't know of a better one. Listen to some of the other schools around the country on the sat. radio, and I think you'll find ours is very good.

Though I thought Q's halftime question of CGC was pretty lame - "got any plans on offense?"

Bob Davie sounds like a dullard.

Pam Ward is a "close talker" and similar to Josh Moon tries to find a way to cure socio-economic ills through sports interviews.

Can only get Rod and Stan via internet radio and they are 20-30 seconds behind the tube.

Sensi...I hardly ever sip Kool-aid either, but I'm also coming after you tonight anyway....why?....no substantive reason other than it will be fun.

Sounds fun, Hoopie.

I love it hoopie- We will be discussing where Auburn is heading in the second half of the show, where him and I disagree the most.

Sensi - No apology necessary at all; I enjoy being called a kool-aid drinker. Guess everybody has their own definition of what it means. To me, its somebody that believes the team can win. I believe this team could line up against anyone and have a chance. I think our offense is good enough to carry us, and they really haven't had a game where they put it all together.

If they ever do, they could hang 50 points against any D out there. We were just a few plays away from doing it to TN.

I still think 10-2 is probably about as good as it gets, but you never know. I still think 8 wins is about as bad as it gets.

But I wouldn't trade our offense for anyone's.

Sensi,

I like you, but it just seems like you are always waiting for the team to just fall apart and you aren't enjoying what's going on in the present.

I could be wrong, but doom isn't always around the corner.

Keep in mind, this is from a guy who almost never makes predictions.

Coosa, this season's schedule set up well for AU. Easy early games with intermittent stronger tests then leading to the typical tuff SEC schedule.

The easy early season gives AU time to perfect the new systems and to play some backups and create depth on a teams that needs depth.

Odds are that we will sustain injuries by the time we get to the tuff part of the schedule. Not sure that our backups will be good enough this year to play against the SEC best.

This is a classic wait and see situation.

I am sick and tired of the "kool-aid" cliche. It is not original and it doesn't actually mean anything. Instead of saying "you're a kool-aid drinker," say what you really mean like "you are just not overly analytical, negative, caustic, and a nay-sayer to the point of absurdity the way I am."

OK I'm a math guy, no apologies. Paul Finebaum says in his article that Auburn has played a weak schedule with a combined record of 9-14. Statistically speaking that's not a valid comparison. A measurement of the relative strength of the teams who've played Auburn would have to exclude their results against Auburn or the result is biased with Auburn's strength. Accepting his measurement criteria the truly comparable record of the teams who've played Auburn is 9-9. Average.

statguy....I would suggest that you call PF and point that out, but you are too intelligent for them to let you on the air.

RK,

I'm always peering around the corner. I look ahead - it's what I do.

I don't wait for the shoe to fall though.

I'm just a look ahead and sometimes miss the roses kinda guy.

Eddie and I don't disagree on where we are heading, by the way. Just where we are heading this season.
