And so it begins
So Memphis fired coach Tommy West today, effective at season's end, and ESPN.com has assembled an intriguing list of possible candidates.
Welcome to the Coaching Carousel.
Well, that would shorten Tuberville's commutes to Jimmy Sexton's office. On the other hand, Memphis is a weak program located in a (relatively) cold area of the Southeast.
Ummm, no. Not happening.
Malzahn? Maybe. I just don't think he's accomplished enough as a college coordinator to warrant a serious look, but I could be wrong. We'll all be keeping an eye on this as things progress.
Welcome to the Coaching Carousel.
Sources told ESPN.com that Memphis is expected to attempt to hire a high-profile coach. Possible candidates include former Auburn coach Tommy Tuberville; Division II North Alabama coach Terry Bowden, another former Auburn coach; Auburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn; and LSU assistant Larry Porter, the former Memphis running back.

Sherman used barbaric tactics in am otherwise civil war.
The Japanese in WWII were far from civilized ...ask Nanking.
The Memphis job may be more apealing than some think. Fred Smith, aka the CEO of Fed Ex, is going to invest ALOT of money in the Memphis program because his son is coming in as a transfer QB from Miami, FL. (Or that is the rumor I get from some friends of mine who are Memphis alums.)
Gus has been on the short list there at Memphis for awhile. Fred Smith will have the money to get him if he wants.
Baby.... Hey Baby Hey!
Wow- What an interesting discussion last night. Of course when it goes History, E-Bro will bring it with all the obscure references since History will someday be his full time gig.
2nd- Welcome Anna Kathryn
3rd & Most Important- BEAT THE DOGS!!!!!
Getting ready for a second day of Christmas shopping. What's on everyone's list? My list includes a win over the dawgs and a win over the bammers!
Merry Christmas and War Eagle!!!
Cincy, i really want a PS3 if you're buyin'. :)
If you can bring us wins over Georgia and Alabama, then that's a fine Christmas for me.
I'll take a 47" LCD 1080P 240HZ LCD TV as my Christmas Gift. Auburn will deliver Georgia and it's up to us to help the team with bama!
yeah, i'd take those 2 wins before a PS3. but all 3 would really make it the best christmas ever! :)
Scottie- YOu get me the TV, i'll get you the PS3 :)!
I've already got a PS3, so I won't be greedy.
ok, so RK gives me his PS3, Cincy buys Eddie a tv, Eddie visits RK in the 'nooga b/c he's not greedy and Auburn beats UGA. everybody is happy! merry christmas to all!
SO can we start talking about the A bomb again?
Since so much discussion was made over the Memphis coaching job last night, what is everyone's take on the Boston College coaching gig?
I think that the A bomb was a real blast.
good question IV. i also wonder how the HIBOTN folks feel about that situation too.
Scottie,
You left one thing out of that.
Auburn also has to beat Alabama.
Memphis to drop to Div II and Terry Bowden will be the new HC. Div II and Bowden....A winning combination!
Didn't undefeated Terry just lose a game?
IV- He did, but he's in the playoffs.
Wow, a Bowden with a chance to win a championship, won't wonders never cease?
My real comment for today is I am getting tired as hell of rain. Why couldn't we have had some of this back in July and August?
It's funny, we were praying for rain for the last two years and begging it to stop now. Funny how things change.
Duck Hunting opens up in Alabama on the day of the Iron Bowl. I hate having to miss opening day...again. Oh well, can't wait for duck hunting season. It's close now.
with all the stuff discussed on here in the past 24 hours.....war, hate, christmas shopping, what kills the thread?
dunk hunting!
good work Eddie. ;)
Look, if you can't kill ducks, you might as well kill a thread. We all know how most Auburn fans feel about duck hunting :)!
I want my coach to go duck hunting ... after he retires.
Tubs should have plenty of time to go to Arkansas in pursuit of the elusive Mallads.

Interesting.
What's up Hotties? No time to catchup on posts and reading is still difficult. So, I'd say it wouldn't surprise me a bit for T.B. to take the Memphis job. Now, how that relates to Paul Tibbets, the Enola Gay and the A-Bomb, I don't know. But, them's my thoughts.
And just so you know; since I now am adorned with an eye patch as a fashion accessory, and since it's UGA week and I'm in enemy territory, I'm going to decorate said patch in AU fashion.
Keep Hate Alive.
Jet- Interesting, yes. Surprising, no.
Good to see that Norm swashbuckling and representin' the Tigers
Good to have you back, Norm, and best wishes for a continued recovery - hopefully one day soon your eyepatch will merely be a fashion statement rather than a medical necessity!
Ida kinda petered out, as we all had hoped. Lot of rain and some gusty wind here in P'cola, but otherwise much ado about nothing.
Norm is one of the swashbucklingest swashbucklers that ever buckled swash.
I wore an eye patch around Auburn back in the day just to be a silly guy. It was really annoying.
Norm I am praying for you to have a full recovery and SOON.
Lots of interesting thoughts last night. Hard to add anything of substance so I won't.
Memphis will be looking for an experienced Head Coach after that anything is possible.
Norm,
From one IV to another IV, good to have you back. You were missed. I hope everything is going well for you and that everything will be back to normal soon. War Eagle, crush the Dawgs.
You're going to let someone else do the decorating, though, right?
Really, sending thoughts your way of a speedy recovery and many days of sight to come.
You have to love Georgia week living in this state. Here are emails what I'm dealing with:
UGALY- "Todd r Cox ? Look like the same 2 me ! Watching cambell sun made me realize that Aub throws the ball 2 the other team a lot ! I guess when u just found out throwing it was legal that's 2 be expected"
Me- "You sure you want to go there Rob…let’s see, Joe Cox has thrown the ball to other team 12 TIMES while Todd has done so 3 times. I’m sorry, your Cox resembles a Cox I remember. The moral of the story is to not have a Cox quarterbacking in the AU/UGA game. But hey, I wouldn’t want to remember this season either if I was you. I can understand your sudden loss of short term memory if I had to watch your team play every week."
UGALY- "Your rite, I can't remember results of aub/uga from the past 3 yrs maybe you could refresh my memory !"
Me- "Sure, it has mainly been filled with QB Cox playing terrible and throwing it to the other team just like it will be this year. Anything else?"
UGAly- "Ps... Does todd ever throw downfield or just a bunch of rinky dinks ? And at least in total offence cox is way bettrr than todd ! I will take cox over todd any day, especially saturday ! GO DAWGS !"
Me- "Todd goes down the field routinely. Apparently you haven’t caught the new Auburn offense on TV yet. Don’t worry, you will get your chance to see it come Saturday. Todd has also thrown for more yards than your sorry QB."
UGAly- "It says in the stats I'm looking at that cox 209.6 per gm / todd 195.8 per game !
Only in auburn does that make sence ! Secsports.com
Oh yeah, todd has 1 more game too ! Pretty much every stat that counts cox is head/shoulders better than todd, auburn people shouldn't evaluate passing QB's eddie And last but not least, total offence..... Cox 207.1 Todd 188.2 enough said !!!!! Bring it on !!!!!! By the way, you should look at your defence (for lack of a better word) stats ! Whew..... Ya'll suck !"
Me- "FINAL JEAPORDY- Cox 17 TD/ 12 INT’s (HORRIBLE) Todd (17TD / 3 INT’s). Yeah, you win the qb battle hands down. Oh, one other thing Rob, we have something at Auburn that’s called a running game. I know that is foreign to you, but it actually allows us to have other options on the field than a sorry QB. Also, since you like stats, did you notice that Auburn was 12th in the Nation in Total offense and Georgia was……88th? LOL. Nevermind, let’s look at all the stats:
NATIONALY
Rushing- Aub- 10th, UGA- 83rd
Passing- Aub- 63rd, UGA- 70th
Total- Aub- 12th, UGA- 88th
Scoring- Aub- 11th, UGA- 62nd
WOW, your offense is really scary….whatever.
Thanks NCAA…. http://www.ncaa.com/sports/m-footbl/stats/ncaa-m-footbl-fbs-team-total-offense.html
Anything else you want to debate on offense there Rob? I mean it’s clear that you guys suck."
Sorry, thought some might enjoy this crap. I don't stir the pot, but I don't just sit quietly either.
NORM!
Great to see you making a cameo...
Ida has washed out my entire week. I was supposed to have two simultaneous trips today to somewhat different parts of the state (it was going to be difficult to pull off, but I am just that good). But, Ida has washed them both out.... not so much washed out, I guess... blown away. 25+mph winds don't play well with an 8 ft johnboat on the open waters....
With tomorrow being a holiday, and my having Thursday off for a much needed doc visit... it seems as though I have a weekend in the middle of the week.
Eddie...so you're saying that Rob loves Cox, right?
Hey Jet and Eddie, and others that may know, what is included in "other income" for the head coaches?
Eddie... and other GA residents... I am sorry... sorry that you have to live there and put up with mangy mutts all year long. They are a few shades below the mullets though, so count your (few) blessings there.
Having lived and gone to school in GA for 4... (ok, 5) years, the AU/UGA game is one of my favorites. I want to beat them as bad or worse than any other team not wearing houndstooth.
Keep up the fight, Eddie...
tommyd.... endorsements, public appearances, incentives (i.e. free use of vehicle, etc.)
Eddie the only thing Rob understands is what he wants to understand. I'm surprised he hasn't pulled the "well we've played a higher level" bs. Routine excuse making is what you will get from the Ga supercrazed faithful who I will remind those that don't live here, honestly believe they are in contention for the National Championship EVERY year. I think this would be an excellent time to bring them craching back down to earth once again.
mytommy- Other income is typically endorsements, tv, radio, provided cars, so many club visits / speaches. Every coach typically have a base salary that is paid by the university and the difference is made up by "other". It is pretty much the way to get a coach to where you want him to make what was agreed upon. Hope that helps.

Thanks Dmiller and Eddie, and whoever was able to answer in the time it took me to write thanks :)
Bro- That's about right.
D.Miller- I'll keep fighting, I promise you that. I HATE GEORGIA!
Mytommy- He called me yesterday and played that card. I've learned you can argue with facts with him. It astounds me. He will never agree to anything that insinuates that his team might not be the greatest thing since sliced bread.
Here was the response I got to my latest response:
UGAly- "Ya'll should know the run, everyone does it on you !
And like you did this past saturday playin furman you put up , what 60+ pts ????
You should pad your stats with your pathetic schedule !
But cox has more yrds per game ! So there ! And against the toughest schedule in the nation !"
Just have to love it.
I think after looking at that link Jet posted, even being an asst coach in the major conferences, isn't a bad gig. I wish I had known more about football to get into the biz
storm did only one good thing in mobile for me... It got me out of work.
Oddly enough Eddie, CBS sportsline.com gives UGA the 17th hardest schedule. Kudos for being high, but FAR from the hardest, which theyve given to Va Tech. That being said Auburn has 45th according to them, and I also have no idea how they figure their SOS rankings.
Oddly enough, he emailed me yet again about Cox being better than Todd:
UGAly- "Eddie these are team stats, cox leads todd in total offence, passing avg per game and interceptions,
At least keep the debate about what is was ! Cox vs todd ! Cox is a superior QB. Based on INDIVIDUAL stats
There you are final jeapordy!"
Me- "Rob, If you want it fair, look at it as a completions and attempts:
Cox: 7.79 yds / Attempt; 13.38 yds / completion
Todd: 8.02 yds / Attempt; 13.69 yds / completion
AGAIN, Stats don’t back you up buddy and common sense left you a long time ago. Oh, have I mentioned that Todd doesn’t throw it to the other team like Cox does. I mean, there are the facts Rob. Anything else you want to debate?"
Sorry, you just can't make this stuff up.
I also realized that Joe C has passed that many times with 1 fewer game that Chris. Which is what happens when you have zero running game. I hope we beat the crap out of them!!! Ofcourse if we do, they will say the officials screwed them because they don't like Richt.
Are we ranting?
i dunno Eddie. obviously Joe Cox is the freaking man. can't you see that?
Mytommy- I'm about to rant. He keeps sending me 3 damn emails to my one response. I guess that what you can do when you are at home all day long. I should have put him on the show just to let everyone see that bamers can take the form of georgia fans even if they don't have 12 fake championships to go with it.
Scottie- I'm blinded by HATE!!! :)
i feel ya Eddie. my hate week was Tennessee. i lived in the ATL for a year but that was a while back.
Anyone want to guess what the answer will be to Andrew McCain's status?
day to day of course.
i'm going to guess Chiz will discuss the situation in depth. maybe break down his medical history on a year-by-year basis since he's been at Auburn and how he thinks this situation will affect his long-term health and if it will affect his schoolwork as well.
My guess to Eddie, but I do think T Stallworth will be a game time decision.
Scott if he does that, then we will all say that was to much information.lol
BLAWGIN' THREAD IS....UP!
I'm so glad that, of the 200+ UGA fans I know personally, there is maybe only one or two like Eddie's friend, and I stay away from talking to them this week.
Most of the UGA fans I've talked to are not confident about this game, and their season pretty much depends on it.
