Auburn 63, Furman 31
Hey everyone. Well, that wasn't an interesting game.
Auburn was totally dominating the game to lengths I haven't seen since 2004. Then the second-team defense goes in the game and Furman kinda-sorta built a kinda-sorta challenge.
I mean, the Paladins scored four touchdowns during the second half. That Auburn defense wasn't the Auburn defense you know.
Anyway, here's what jumped out at me:

I mean, the Paladins scored four touchdowns during the second half. That Auburn defense wasn't the Auburn defense you know.
Anyway, here's what jumped out at me:
- Furman was 0-for-7 on third down during the first half.
- Furman had zero rushing yards in the first half.
- Auburn had 30 first downs to Furman's 15.
- Auburn finished with 655 yards.
- Anthony Gulley was Auburn's leading rusher with 77 yards (on five carries).
QUOTIN'
- Furman head coach Bobby Lamb: ``We obviously could not stop Auburn in
the first half, their pace of the offense gave us trouble even though we
worked on it all week in practice. They were hitting on all cylinders
and they were very difficult to defend. Chris Todd was making so many
great decisions, getting the ball spread around and going 17-for-18 with
only one incomplete pass. They made some big plays." - Auburn WR/TB/CB Anthony Gulley: ``“I did not play with the offense all week, I played with the defense. Coach told me after the half that he was going to put me on offense, so I ran a little reverse and then he put me in the backfield. It was great to score a touchdown, especially since it was the first of my career.”
- TB Ben Tate: ``“It was a great day. We came out and did what we were supposed to do. We really played well as a team. Everybody had their head in the game and there’s nothing else to say. We did what we had to do.”
- S Daren Bates: ``"It's big for us. We need everyone to step up for Zac (Etheridge). People are going to have to fill in some places. It's good to be able to have some more people with that experience with the two games left on our schedule. They will be tough matchups for us."
- Bates on painting "ZAC" on his left arm: ``I just wanted to … show him that I love him and I still want to be out there with him."
- D'Angelo Benton, who caught six balls on Saturday: ``I feel like nobody can stop me now. I've got my confidence all the way up now so you all are going to see a lot from me."
- Ted Rüf on Gulley and Auburn's defensive needs: ``We're searching everywhere. We're looking under every rock, every nook and cranny, trying to find some more guys. We're just so thin right now. He's an emergency guy. It looked like he did some good things out there."

Oklahoma losing at Nebraska?
Say it ain't so.
Yes, Kris, and WARRR EAGLE!!!
I hope we con't get complacent since we are already assured of Atlanta.
We need to finish strong.
I love Anthony "Country" Gulley
Really bad call on the int by the bug eyed officiating crew..LSU got hosed. The SEC is the most hypocritical organization in college football. Fining coaches for speaking out against the obvious is absurd.
In the first quarter, OU and Nebraska combined for 22 total yards. Nebraska's touchdown came after a INT return to OU's 1 yard line.
Oh please..it was a bang bang play.
Not enough evidence on the replay to overturn.
If Danielson is saying I think I saw dirt..then u know it was a bang bang play.
Besides we got hosed on the first drive when the replay booth was down. It evens out.
They had nine yards in the fourth quarter...They weren't going to score.
Not only do I believe the LSU player picked the ball off, I think it would have been a pick in the NFL.
Okay then..... are y'all ready for 'Amen Corner'????
The end zone view clearly showed it was an INT.
NEITHER on field official saw the play, they ran up to each other and both looked lost.
Ref 1: I missed it.
Ref 2: Me too.
Ref 1: who put money in your pocket this week?
Ref 2: REC. How bout you?
Ref 1: CBSlive
Ref 2: It was obviously incomplete.
Ref 1: That's what I saw.
FSJ, I'll agree it wasn't as clear cut as some other calls missed this year by the SEC, but I thought it was definitely an INT and it should have been overturned.
Eddie said that even Eli Gold said on the radio he thought it was INT, for what that is worth anyway.
As ready as we'll ever be, ms. n-it.
I feel better about our team than I have in several weeks. All the way back to MSU, actually.
Now, whether that means we have a shot against UGa and Bama remains to be seen. . .
BTW, Faker, congrats. Solid performance from what I saw.
Ingram prolly won't win the Heisman, but it won't be because he is undeserving.
if we play like we did the first 5 weeks, we have a great shot against UGa. I smell a 2001 Iron Bowl replay :-(
You guys are funny. just don't watch'em play like me. I could care less about what they do. I can't control it so I don't watch it or fret over it. I would rather rearanged my stereo wires than watch them play.
If we keep playing at our 1st half level we have a shot in both games. a good shot.
I assume u are talking about watching Bama, wtc?
Not me..I have to watch Auburn play too.
Ok....if you feel comfortable saying under review that wasn't a catch go ahead.
wtc, I like watching college football too much not to watch them play, especially if it's a top ten matchup.
I'm not trying to take the pi$$ out of FSJ or anything. I think Bama wins that game either way. I just think it should have been an int. I'd think that even it wasn't Bama.
In an unrelated note..Crompton has 5 TD's tonight for UT.
Whatever mojo he got in the fourth quarter of the Auburn game has not left him.
I am FSJ. Even though I like college football. I just never watch UA. I just read the headlines in the paper to find out what goes on with them.
Kris,
i feel comfortable in saying that whatever call was made on the field would stand on review..
If they had called it an interception it would have stood.
And calling it incomplete stood too.
well that's no fun wtc...
:-)
j-z,
from the last thread, yep. 5/4 Star recruit to UCLA before transferring.
E-bro: It could be that I have too many friends that are fans and When they ask me about their team, as they are ready to brag or strut about something, I just tell them i didn't see them play so i do have no idea what happened. They do not like it very much when I do that.
anyone touting Ingram for heisman is a bammer. just sayin'
Good point, wtc. I don't really have any Bama friends. Mainly just Bama acquaintances that I'm friendly with.
Lol Peter..
He only ran for near 150 on a top ten team.
He won't win but he deserves to be in the discussion as a serious candidate.
Plus, when I spend time watching my team, that is enough. I have other interest that I would rather do.
BTW-wife and daughter and friends are going to UGA game, I would rather do something else.
The Forcier we saw today was actually more highly ranked than either of his brothers that went to Michigan I believe. He had 4.5 speed coming out of high school.
see. bammer.
Ingram did well tonight, but I think the bulk of the credit goes to the o-line tonight. Ingram, Richardson, it didn't matter. They were both gashing LSU's front seven in the second half.
With eyes that freaking big he sure does call a ton of plays in a ton of games wrong..what is troubling is that most of the bad calls seem to be in favor of the top two teams in the sec..That was a potential game changing play and they got the call wrong. I don't care what the "call on the field" was.
E-Bro...
I can't understand why we didn't run more in the first half?
Got any insights?
Were we getting to cute or were we trying to back them off the line on purpose in preparation for the second half?
I say Ndonkeykong Suh deserves consideration over Ingram
Anybody think that Rich Rod makes it past this season at Michigan?
SEC is down this year save for two teams. That is why Ingram has done well.
When my running partners were questioning the validity of Dyer being a highly rated rb, that was my response.
Why can't a fan just take off their biased glasses and say if someone is good or not?
no
Done talkin bout it...have a great weekend peeps!
FSj-Rich is surely on the hot seat, along with Wiess. That loss hurt him a lot today.
Ingram is good, sure, but he isn't leading the state, conference, or nation.
I dunno, FSJ. Surprised me too. Both teams seemed determined not to run in the first half.
I was shocked when in the first half on your field goal drive, given McElroy's struggles in the red zone, y'all called three straight passing plays as soon as you got in the red zone.
That vexed me. I guess they did get too cute.
Wiess is safe, thanks to $$$$
I do think he leaves next year for the pro's.
Cal getting killed
Problem for michigan is they have recruited each year for the spread type offense. if they change now back to the power game, they will have more struggles ahead.
I like that Gulley got some good work. These coaches seem to be doing a pretty good job of developing players. I wasn't particulary excited about Gulley out of HS.
When I doubt the officiating, it's a problem. I saw two things. It doesn't meant happened this way, but this is what I think I saw: One, two unsure officials decide to make a call they know will be reviewed in favor of the fair-haired team giving them an inherent advantage in review, and two, I saw a replay official use an even higher standard than I've seen in other games this year to uphold a call. Was LSU going to win this game? No. But gracious sakes alive, the SEC officials keep looking inept at best and crooked at worst.
I'm out. been a long day. Going to ATL for my 1st pro game ever on my b'day.
FSJ - I can think of $4 million reasons UM won't get rid of Rich Rod just yet. I think they'd have too much egg on their face to get rid of RR before they finish paying off WVU.
Having said that, I really don't know the payment schedule...they may have already paid.
I agree wtc..
Next year is Ingram's last at Alabama.
So who returns punts next week? And I ask again, hard to judge being Furman and all, but how did Washington look at SS?
I don't like games like these, but I do think they are necessary to get starters rest and develop talent.
Anybody see Holtz today?
Yesterday he picked Alabama. Last night he picked LSU...After the game today he said that he picked Alabama.
I guess if you cover your bases like that you are bound to be right.
my guess is Weiss will be out before RR.
Jet-the problem is that it is happening around the league. Didn;t see the int thing in the LSU game, but I have seen some horrible calls in our stadium. You would think we could get something in our favor at home, but other teams get the benefit o fthe calls while in Jorfdan Hare.
Any of you recruiting experts know anything about Keenan Allen?
E-Bro - Demond looked a whole lot better at safety than the LSU safety
Today has been a great day.
My eldest daughter is 16 and I am almost 40. We have seen the same number of victories in our lifetime that Navy has had over ND and I love it!
AU1N04,
It's always great to see Notre Dame lose.
THT, hopefully that's the case in three weeks time.
quick thinking by that Cincy QB. Wow!
2 min left in the 3rd. Oregon State 24 (20)Cal 7
FSJ - You ask I provide.
On the Hoof: Allen is a tall, rangy athlete with long arms and a frame that can easily hold another 20 pounds. Has the appearance of a hybrid safety/outside linebacker and may remind some people of a young Deon Grant.
Needs Improvement: Could use some added muscle mass, which will help him become a more physical deterrent in the secondary. Could also improve on speed just a bit.
Most Impressive: Covers a ton of acreage in the secondary like a smooth jungle cat, and he has the hands to change the game in an instant. Allen is also a very versatile athlete and could play on either side of the ball.
Conclusion: It would be shocking if he didn't play meaningful time as a true freshman. He doesn’t lack confidence and is very coachable.
Alabama's greatest weakness is its play-caller, followed by an average QB, and Kareem Jackson.
Iowa: Should I drop them out of my poll?
except in the '73 Sugar Bowl and '75 Orange Bowl
Make them 25th so you can get more emails.
They are who we thought they were!
YES! Jay G
THEY ARE WHO WE THOUGHT THEY WERE
JayG...
Yep..for fun.
Thanks AU1N04...Apparently he committed to Alabama tonight but I didn't know anything about him.
Jet....Agree on all points.
JGT - you can do it on a gradual basis. Put em at 15 this week then drop them completely after tOSU destroys them.
Or if you want a flood of emails, go ahead and drop them now, knowing they don't belong anyway.
HA HA! That is the HABOTN HEX!
the basics--
-bama beat lsu handily
- it was an INT, but it would not have mattered.
- the refs did miss a few calls against bama, but again, overall, it would not have mattered
- furman was awful ( i just watched some of the espn360 replay)
- javhid best may actually die tonight; espn reports that when he landed, the reason his arms went stiff was because the brain lost contact with the body
- we will beat UGA
-we will be 8-4, possible Jan. 1 bowl if we play competitively with UA
-it is hard to believe AU only has 2 games left in reg. season
- UA/TX should be tied for No. 1
- if RR finished 5-7 or 6-6, UM will give him 1 more year. after that, if he does not win 8+ next year, he will be gone
JGT - Did you ever hear more about Stallworth?
TCU #1 GO HORNED FROGS!!!
WOO HOO!! NAVY!! Ok, done with that.
Beark,
Heard it wasn't as bad as originally reported for JB. Hope that's correct.
That's correct Peter...
They said he had full movement of his arms/legs..
It was very very very scary looking though.
Where was T. Zachery today?
His career may be over, though. 2 concussions in 2 weeks. Sucks
Hopefully Best will be fine, hate to see his career end but that isn't the most important thing.
Prayers are with him.
Jay G,
Why was PPL playing CB?
Anybody watching the strikeforce fights?
Best had two concussions in two weeks? Why was he playing?
Who needs Julio?
We have D'Angelo!!!
THT...
BEASLEY!!!
Darn it THT, I was trying to set you up for Beasley. My B.
The soul is willing, but the flesh is weak. Night kids.
rats. I knew I shouldn't have wasted time touting D'Angelo. D'Angelo seems to be touting himself well enough without my help.
Sorry, Mr. Beasley, for my faux pas

Night Jet. WDE!
Benton's comments confuse me.
At least Benton made a catch today.
Jay, to simplify your poll I would suggest to just always rank Iowa one spot below Penn State, regardless of the record.
I am hoping TZach was in the stands eating ice cream today. I think it would be best for the team. His presence wasn't needed.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Todd Haley, a University of North Florida graduate who played on the golf team there and even spent a season as the school’s golf coach.
Wait, what? An NFL head coach went to a school with no football program and used to coach a golf team?
Don't the Raiders have a former chef as an offensive coordinator or something?
Congrats Eddie. It appears you have the honor of kicking my butt at pickem this week. You people just seem to be taking turns.
nothing beats the Redskins OC.. one week, calling BINGO in a retirement home, the next week, calling plays for JC in an NFL game
D'Angelo Benton, who caught six balls on Saturday: ``I feel like nobody can stop me now. I've got my confidence all the way up now so you all are going to see a lot from me.
IF you say so...you were just playing against a 4-5 D II team pal...
I think I want to coach in the NFL nowl.
TEAM 105!!
jhag - D1 AA. Please, not DII
If Benton wants to have ten catches next week, then by all means...
Any chance that Benton sneaks into the Heisman talk with those 6 catches against Furman. He could be a sleeper.
seriously.
With 6 catches today, that makes like 6 catches Benton has in his career at Auburn.
not a single Hottie picked Tulsa... they are currently up by 11 late in the 3rd qtr
and just like that, Houston pulls within 4.
It is nice to see us have 9 different receivers catch balls today. That is an important stat. One way to look at it is that if the ball is spread around, the defense has no idea where it is going. I consider that a plus.
Toby Gerhart for Heisman!!!
Good game on ESPN right now.
What'd he have, THT, like 40 carries today.
I would like to watch football, but this MMA is pretty good. I am watching a freak show get his head pounded into the mat.
I just saw Kirk Ferentz's post game press conference. He talked about how disappointed he was when he heard Mr Tate was thinking about dropping Iowa from his Top 25.
Your right FC, we have had two good fights so far.
Gerhart leads PAC-10 in rushing.
Today vs the Ducks he had 38 carries for 223
I thought your freakshow had one that Steve.
save by the bell.
Who's going to Athens?
When I wake up in the morning
And the alarm lets out a warning
I don't think I'll ever make it on time
Freak show is going down. He had his shot and missed.
No doubt Shields won this one.
Chizik said Pierre-Louis will not continue to play on defense.
Courtesy of Andy Bitter
Ha.
Ole Miss, up 24 with 52 seconds left calls a timeout for????
Who didn't play on defense today?
I mean other than me.
JGT - thanks for the Notes & Quotes
Hotties - I'll see y'all from work tomorrow. I'm headed down to the basement TV to see what other football I can round up on the "real" tv.
WARRRR EAGLE!!!
GO TIGERS!!!
GO HORNED FROGS!!!
They didn't put you in J-Z? I got in midway through the 4th.
I think Byrum played some safety. Todd did not.
Seeing that #6 jersey hanging on the sideline just now in the UCONN/Cincy game just made me sad
Peter,
That's because Houston Nutt is a goofball.
I have been touting Ponder and Spiller as more Heisman worthy this year than Mccoy, Tebow and Ingram. I withdraw my Ponder vote, but am sticking with Spiller
I think I could make at least 1 out of 3 extra point attempts with my non-dominant kicking foot...I might transfer to Clemson.
Wow, just happened to switch over to USC-ASU on 360, saw the most bizarre interception I think I've ever seen.
You'll see it on the highlight shows, for sure.
free shoes and online classes never would've lost like this...USF is officially part of the "big three" in the state now, imho. FSU is no longer.
What a punch by Fedor... I thought Rogers was winning that fight.
UCONN chipping away at Cincy's lead
Think Diddy will take the hint and fade into the sunset?
Or is he determined to drag the program down with him?
Why do the announcers of the Florida St Clemson game keep acting like this is the biggest win in a long time for Clemson? Has it really been that long since they beat a .500 team? When will Florida St stop being a "big win" for schools? They haven't done much of anything for quite a few years now.
PF, they said that every time Tommy beat Diddy, regardless of either team's record.
Just keeping up the tradition with Dabo, I guess.
Hmmm, looks like PPL won't be playing any more cornerback. It is a shame. Just think how good he would match up against Julio Jones.
Sorry, Michael, for referring to you as "PF" in my previous post.
Apologies also to PF for mistaking Michael for him.
About time for me to go home, methinks.
I expect that out of a bammer who touts Ingram for Heisman
:-)
It will be interesting to see who AU sends out to field punts against UGA.
At this point, the coaches can't feel very confident about anyone we've seen back there to this point.
Freep thinks Ingram should win the Heisman? BAMMER SCUM!!!!
CJ Spiller for Heisman.
That's okay, guys. I've been called worse.
Can't remember when, offhand, but I'm fairly certain of it.
BTW, Oklahoma is now the best 5-4 team in the country. Wonder if they'll still be in the top 25 tomorrow?
USC survives ASU, however.
PPL will likely be the punt returner. You have to stick with your decisions this late in the season. There is no more time to experiment.
Just got around to watching the Breeders Cup Championship. Zenyatta was awesome. Jay G thinks she's better than Rachel Alexandra. He's a horse guy.
Spiller had 300 total yards... just sayin
Steve, if the return game was just not very productive, I would agree.
Putting the ball on the ground seems to be a good reason to keep looking for the right guy to me. It's not like PPL is making big plays to offset the fumbles.
Sorry I missed everyone so far today...
Steve,
Just because it's late in the season doesn't mean you pull someone who hasn't been effective and at times been a negative for the team.
I've given up on gaining yardage in the punt game, I just want someone who can catch the ball...if not, then don't have a return and send all 11 after the punter every time.
I vote for going back to Gulley as the punt returner. He was on a lot shorter leash than PPL. Didn't he just drop one punt before he got yanked?
Spiller had a great night..
Glad to see others jumping on the Spiller bandwagon I've been touting for a few weeks.
I've said it before. Whether it's receiving, running, or returning kicks, the guy is good for at least one 50+ yard touchdown a game.
The fact that Clemson has 3 losses means he probably doesn't really have a chance to win, but I think he should be in New York. Them making it to the ACC Title game would help.
wooooooooooooooooo
hooooooooooooooooooo!
If Tebow or Ingram has a good SEC championship game and wins, I think one of them will get the Heisman.
HATE
HATE
HATE
Good Morning, Hotties!
War Eagle!!!
Morning all.
Just a few notes:
McCoy wins the Heisman. He is the third of the big 3 (Tebow/Bradford)so it is his turn.
Spiller tough but not on a team with enough hype.
After watching AU play all season, I can hinestly say, there is big step down from the top 2 teams in the conference to everyone else. We click sometimes, but when we don't it is awful.
A little under the weather today. I am day to day for church. It will be a church time decision.
Well, i absolutely bombed at pick em this week! I have steadily deteriorated!
I love my dog, but I hate the 'Dogs.
Good morning Hotties, we had a gorgeous day on the Plains yesterday, not football weather but AUsome.
I was on row 61 in the northeast corner and the Eagle ( Ican't keep up with the names) almost came right over my left shoulder (beautiful). This put me in a perfect postion on the two catches that should have been intercepted but were caught. In the second half one on the 1 yard line and the other for a touchdown for Furman. Michael and wtc must have been playing cornerback on those plays.
Fun day and I enjoyed being there.
Have any of you seen this yet:
"Conspiracy Theory"
Or how about this one:
Conspiracy Theorists Might Be on to Something
Good read Luv. It wouldn't have changed the outcome of the game, but the officials should have gotten that call right.
When they lost their starting QB and running back, they stopped moving the ball. And when their CB went out, Jones got his long TD run. They had a backup in who over pursued that pass like Eltoro.
Let's get those dogs! It's Georgia week. They are also coming off an easy game.
Kathy,
It MIGHT not have changed the outcome of the game, but we will never know now...
Beat the Dawgs!!
Great articles Luv. My reaoning for believing the conspiracy theories is simple. If its just bad officiating then why have the officials in these big games not made a bad call against the higher ranked team. It seems to me that a bad official will make bad calls against both teams not just one. The fact that they have all favored the undefeated team obviously is suspect.
Great articles, Luv. Thanks for the links.
The good thing about the situation is these articles were written by national publication writers who reach an audience nation-wide. It seems obvious to everyone except the Bama and UF fans that something fishy looks to be happening.
Slive is fining coaches for stating what is clear to everyone else.
