Auburn @ Georgia, 2nd half

Welcome. We are watching the second half of Auburn's game at Georgia.

AUBURN UNIVERSITY TIGERS
24

UNIVERSITY OF GEORGIA BULLDOGS
31

FINAL

  • Georgia first possession: FIELD GOAL. Blair Walsh 50 FG. Drive covered 38 yards in nine plays.
      AUBURN 14, GEORGIA 10

  • Auburn first possession: Three-and-out.

  • Georgia second possession: TOUCHDOWN. Washaun Ealy 1 run. PAT kick is good. Drive covered 82 yards in 9 plays. The big play was on the first third down -- Josh Bynes tipped a pass to a completely surprised Orson Charles. The play went for 33 yards.
      GEORGIA 17, AUBURN 14

  • Auburn second possession: FIELD GOAL. Wes Byrum 37 yards. Drive covered 57 yards in 7 plays.
      AUBURN 17, GEORGIA 17

  • Georgia third possession: TOUCHDOWN. Caleb King 11 run. PAT kick good. Drive covered 69 yards in 6 plays. The key play was a 47-yard pass that got Georgia to the AU 11. Neiko Thorpe blew the coverage.
      GEORGIA 24, AUBURN 17

  • Auburn third possession: TOUCHDOWN. Demond Washington 99 kickoff return.
      AUBURN 24, GEORGIA 24

  • Georgia fourth possession: PUNT. Not much happening.

  • Auburn fourth possession: INTERCEPTION. Chris Todd threw toward nobody ... right in the middle of the field. Weird.

  • Georgia fifth possession: TOUCHDOWN. Caleb King 24 run. PAT kick good. Drive covered 39 yards in 4 plays. Chris Todd's second interception set the table.
      GEORGIA 31, AUBURN 24

  • Auburn fifth possession: TURNOVER ON DOWNS. Auburn moved to the UGA 23, but things regressed from there.

They really need some rest time after the long haul they have been through since they started practice in August.

I'd like to apologize to everyone for my negative comments tonight. I'm a glass-half-empty kinda person, but that shouldn't be an excuse. As much as I keep telling myself this is a rebuilding year, it absolutely KILLS me to lose in the manner we did tonight, especially after it looked like we had the game well in hand.

9:53 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

I agree IV. I hope they can fix that in the schedule next year and not have to go so long without a week off.

9:54 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

LOve,
You weren't too bad. It was hard not to get negative with some of the things we were doing. But, we are Auburn and next year will be better :)

I love Auburn, I have been an Auburn man for 70 years. I will never stop loving Auburn and hating UAT. Goodnight all.

They need rest and so do I. Lord help, this one took a lot out of me. Can't imagine what it would be like to be on the field!

Hey Love,
Weren't you the one who asked, hypothetically, if we would take a loss tonight if it meant a win in two weeks? If so, then yes, I'll take it.

Good night all! Hop you have sweet dreams!

poor play calling and no depth hand uga easy win

i say easy because they outscored AU 31-10 after the first 10 minutes.

gus pulled off his greatest magic trick of all tonight. he made the offense that was unstoppable on the first two drives disappear into thin air. it looked like the same players out there to me.

dwashington better get to running steps as soon as the bus home pulls into AU. his effort on king's go ahead td run was appalling. no attempt to even pursue the play. he just stood there. he may have been gassed from playing the entire game though.

one thing i can't accuse this AU defense of not being is tough. you have to be tough to play almost every d snap of so many games with no rest. i didn't see ford, lykes or any of the other dline backups at all. clayton contributed a penalty and a uga first down in the only action i saw him in.

and it just wouldn't be a drive and game killing penalty unless it is a false start for #73. he should only be referred to by name from now on if he goes a full game without a false start.

you can't beat hatin' bammer for two weeks. let's bring to them. wde.

Blogger Lovecrafty said...

Heh heh, my wife musta seen that Auburn lost. She went over to a friend's house but was supposed to be home 30 minutes ago. Probably thinks I'm setting fire to the furniture and throwing it out on the front lawn!

9:57 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

There is no way you can convince me that when Gus was the co-offensive coordinator at Tulsa that the other guy wasn't the guy who called the in-game plays.

Gus' offense does work, and he seems to get players ready to play, but the play calling is questionable.

9:59 PM
Blogger Lovecrafty said...

And yeah Cincytiger, that was my hypothetical earlier. Let's hope I've got a bit of Nostradamus in me!

9:59 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

i know we can win in 2 weeks if the following things happen.
#1. UAT's bus breaks down... no just kidding.. but really--
#1. if we stack the line and FORCE their QB to throw it. I mean send 7-8 men every play; shut down the run and don't give him time to throw. Are you listening, Ted R.?
#2. We don't run the wildcat. ever.
#3. CT does not throw down the middle of the field when there are safeties
#4. We don't commit dumb penalties- the SEC office will inform the officials to call it Bama's way so they can assure themselves of a 1-2 matchup in SECCG. BIG time ratings for the NC semifinal
#5. Don't worry so much about this hurry up and Meerkat manor offense, just line up, run the ball off tackle, play action pass and hit DA and TZ on crossing patterns, occasionally taking a shot down the sidelines deep. hear that CT, sidelines deep..

If we complete some/most of these things, i give us a fairly decent chance to be victorious in the IB.

Todd was really lucky it was only 2 int's tonight as he let some fly that should have went somewhere else.

Blogger FSJ said...

Well I just jinxed Pitt.

Blogger stupup74 said...

Gus's play calling at the end was terrible. He ran the same play twice in a row. He gets greedy too much and he got greedy at the end.

You had to know UGA was pinning their ears back, GET THE BALL OUT OF THERE with something shorter and quicker.

You had three plays (2nd and 11) to get a first down, no need to start firing to the endzone with 3 time outs.

Gus has got to rethink some of his route concepts. They take too long to develop.

10:01 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Gus also abandoned the run once we got near the 30.

The run had set us up nicely on that last drive, but once we got close he stopped the running plays.

10:02 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

And to top it all off, I am sucking at the pick em

10:03 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

and for the record, i'm still on the gus bus. wait until he gets some of these offensive recruits into the system. i'm excited about what is coming for AU.

i'll say this is the most inconsistent AU team i've ever seen. they can grab or shed momentum more times in one game than any team i can remember seeing.

10:03 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

It's gonna be best to not speak to me for a while. Ehyou is not in a good mood.

10:05 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

This game for some reason just killed me.

It sucks, we've lost 4 times, 3 to teams that we are probably better than.

10:05 PM
Blogger stupup74 said...

It won't matter who the recruits are. You are not going to out athlete people in the SEC.

Obviously better players help, but unless Gus fixes some HUGE flaws in his system and his play calling Auburn will continue to be inconsisent.

10:06 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

it has been amazing how the play of the AU offense has totally dictated the play of the defense. if the O is rolling the D plays up. when the O goes awol, the disappears with it.

i did think evans played pretty well for toro. i saw evans crashing in trying to make some plays.

it was pitiful to watch joe cox totally outrun bynes on the qb draw for a 1st on 3rd and long. i knew bynes had no speed but that's one they should make him watch over and over in the lb meetings. i think bynes may need to drop 20 lbs in the offseason and try to get some speed back.

10:10 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Why did PItt call a TO if they were gonna punt?

10:12 PM
Blogger Jet said...

We can all quibble about playcalling, but the bottom line is that we're woefully deficient on both lines of scrimmage. That had more to do with it than anything.

10:12 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Thank you, Jet.

10:14 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

The backbreaker was either the really bad Int or the 3rd and 16 pass where Thorpe got badly burned.

10:14 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Agreed Jet.

10:14 PM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Well that was our last Saturday football game of the year.

10:15 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Musburger just asked if you go for it on 4th down with 2:10 left?

Uh..u don't have three timeouts Brent.

10:17 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

the huge flaws are the players currently in the system. gus wants to be able to run most of his formations from the same 11 personnel with minimal subbing in and out and also to keep the d from subbing in. that is not possible with the current best players he can put on the field. you have to respect a guy like rollison more at wr than you do a chris todd. suddenly you are not basically down a player when you run wildcat and such. ben tate cannot split out and play wr. many of the current commitments for 2010 reportedly can do that. a qb that is at minimum a marginally effective runner also changes the dynamic of what plays can be called as well. so the players will make a huge difference in his comfort level with his own playing calling in the long run.

10:18 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

LOL...

Well that ends that.

10:19 PM
Blogger ballin said...

Things that sucked tonight....
- Tommy Trott's holding penalty.
- Bynes dropped int that resulted in Ga TD drive.
- Motion penalty on what would have been Burns completion.

What always sucks....

- Trying to throw deep when the QB can't do it.
- The Wildcat.
- All things Bama.

10:19 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Well, that game was just not good. I think the way AU is losing is disheartening. Au got beat on the line of scrimmage, but I do not see how the OL allowed a 4 man rush to get to Todd so quickly.

10:19 PM
Blogger AK said...

Why do I still feel like we easily could have won this game? It is sad.

I guess we gotta take down the elephants in two weeks.... that's it!

What went wrong?????

10:20 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

it funny how i've watched UF out athlete just about everyone else (EXCEPT AU) the last 4 years. you can always out athlete everyone. getting them not to false start on a potential game winning drive is another story.

10:21 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Anna,

Are you ready for some hate?

10:22 PM
Blogger wtc said...

Our wildcat needs to be scrapped. it is such a momentum killer.

gus ALWAYS run a dive play when we hurry to the line after a big gain. Remember the ARKy DC even said so after the game. ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS.

as fans, we just have to survive the season this year and expect the next year will be different.

10:22 PM
Blogger AK said...

FSJ, I AM!!!!

Not toward you of course. I have the utmost respect for my mother who graduated from UAT, so there's that.

But this loss just puts more HATE in my heart for the elephants and satan himself!!!!!

COME ON AUBURN!!!!

10:25 PM
Blogger wtc said...

so AU makes another struggling qb look like a heisman candidate. Who would've thunk it?

10:25 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

i like the wildcat. i don't like kb dancing around for 3 seconds before heading upfield while the whole world closes in on him. he has also proved to be a relatively ineffective wildcat qb over the long haul. the illegal motion penalty on his long pass late in the game was on none other than kodi burns. he came out of his stance early to come get the pitch while smith was motioning across the formation at the snap. we need somebody quicker and more decisive as a runner to run wildcat than kodi. again, the players available dictate what you are able to do.

All throwing you under the bus means, is faker will call you a bama fan on the radio...

10:41 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

what kind of bus?

the gus bus?

the short bus?

a hippy bus?

i'll throw you a bone... $aban is now bigger than jesus in alabama!!! all bibles are now in process of being exchanged for copies that replace jesus with "st. nick" and "god" with "bahr".

Ok..zookeeper gets it first.

The only thing I like more than being thrown under the bus is getting shout outs. Oh, those shout outs feel good!

10:48 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Well I guess you get both if faker calls in, Mchiela

10:49 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Oh..I'm working up something special this year...

10:49 PM
Blogger michael said...

So how about them Auburn Tigers? I really felt like this is one of those games where a couple of our players really destroyed us with their individual efforts. You know, the opposite of when a player or two takes a game over.

But the team I saw out there can still beat bama.

10:50 PM
Blogger AK said...

Thank you, michael! I hope so...

10:51 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Any way I can get Auburn and UF to wear black jerseys?

Those go over so well.

10:52 PM
Blogger michael said...

I think we should wear Tiger print jerseys for the iron bowl.

10:53 PM
Blogger michael said...

And chizik should coach in his underwear.

10:54 PM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

As I just wrote in my game story, Auburn forgot what was important Saturday.

Those deep passes are a critical component (they were all but gone in the second half) and penalties penalties penalties.

No execution = no dice.

10:54 PM

This sux. We're up 14-0. When you're up 14-0 you're supposed to win. This sux.

Michael is joking.

10:54 PM

Also, Georgia aimed that run attack at Jonathan Evans' face and said STOP US.

He didn't. They didn't.

10:55 PM

Deep passes are hard to throw when your QB has zero time. He might end up doing something crazy like throwing a ball to the middle of the field when the receiver is doing an out route.

10:59 PM
Blogger FSJ said...

Well the good news is that Auburn will get to work on stopping the run...

Something tells me that Auburn will try to do that very thing against Alabama.

10:59 PM
Blogger Quitstina said...

Michael is not joking.

10:59 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Well, guess I will call it a night. Maybe it won't hurt so bad in the morning. But, I will still wake up proud to be an Auburn Tiger. War Eagle!

11:00 PM
Blogger michael said...

Did anyone else die a little bit on the inside when eltoro got run over? That ain't supposed to happen.

11:00 PM
Blogger Mark said...

Is eltoro hurt?

11:02 PM
Blogger Mark said...

With the way Chizik is recruiting, AU will be back.

As a BAMA fan, Saban's first year was tough. But even in the losses, we felt like we were a better team than the year before.

Chizik is doing things the right way at Auburn and will probably be successful in the near future.

Judging from hiring day until now, I think most folks would have said 7-5 would be fine.

It is just the process of the five can be painful to actually watch.

I think AU has brighter years ahead.

11:04 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

$aban is a fool if mcelroy even attempts a pass in the first half. i would not attempt one at any point in the first half unless i'm down by 21 or more. i would run run and run some more at AU's D. on 3rd and 25, i'd run it. the quickest way to keep AU in the game is throwing us ints provided we catch them. if he outsmarts himself and tries to sling it around, AU has a chance. if bammer runs 60 running plays, AU is cooked. don't even show up.

11:05 PM
Blogger michael said...

Yeah, with the way recruiting is going, that is why this loss doesn't hurt as bad as some of last year's losses. But it still hurts when you can point to 10 different plays where Auburn just screwed up that could have been the difference in the game. It's just hard to believe how badly those last three quarters went, and Auburn was still in position to tie it at the end.

11:08 PM
Blogger chip chip said...

in two years AU has the players to not lose the uk and uga games and probably be competitive in arky and lsu. those guys costing us like trott, 73, etc. will be gone. the other tub's deadwood on the team like mckenzie and PPL and others that can't play for whatever reason will have moved on or been cleared out. chiz and co. have been reaching pretty deep this year to find a warm body to put in at times--like tonight.
