BLAWGIN' FER YER NOGGIN: Gene Chizik speaks again

Hey everyone. You know how this works.

  • He has arrived ... three minutes late.

  • "This is a great, great Georgia football team. Our kids ought to be into it and ready to play."

  • On if he'd buy stock in this team: ``I've seen them go through a lot of good and some bad -- and handle both. They just keep coming back, keep playing, keep fighting. They just keep hanging in there."

    (He won't answer the question.)

  • On A.J. Green: ``AJ is a great talent. He has a lot of range and a lot of speed. He's their go-to guy this year. They take a lot of shot down the field with him. It'll be a huge challenge for our secondary -- which should be fun for our secondary. He'll make you go to work all night long. We'll have to make sure we have the right matchups when he's on the field."

  • On Joe Cox: ``The more pressure you get on him, the better. He's a very, very good quarterback. He's very accurate. He's an extremely talented guy. He can put the ball right on the money."

  • On Georgia's underperforming defense: ``When I look at them on film, I see a very talented team that has been very productive."

  • On injuries: ``Our staff has done a really nice job of being able to plug other guys in. Onterio McCalebb has been out ... and we've had some young guys stuff in there. They'll have to continue doing that."

  • On the line between promoting assistant for other jobs and wanting to keep a good staff at Auburn: ``It's a fine line. I want to help our guys to be able to achieve every goal that they set out to do when they became a head coach. If that's being a head coach, I want to help them -- just the way people helped me. I don't want to lose any of them. At the same time, my job as a head coach is to help them achieve those goals. There's no reason I wouldn't help them -- and they know that."

  • On retaining offensive swerve: ``You'd like to think you could carry it week-to-week. Sometimes we start the game off slow and we pick up momentum as we go. It's a game-by-game issue, in my opinion."

  • Travante Stallworth is out this week. ``He won't be playing."

  • On Ben Tate getting national respect: ``I'm really proud of him and the achnowedlgements he's receiving now are certainly well-deserved. He's a guy who laid low at the beginning of the year and did what he needed to do to become a better football player. Twelve hundred yards later, it's showing up."

  • Ben Tate's effect on recruiting: ``If you have a guy hit 1,000 yards in nine games in this league, that's hard to do. The proof is there. If you want to rush for 1,000 in this offense, you have opportunities to do that. You know you're going to get the ball."

  • That's a wrap.

tommyd,

Thanks for the links.

I will say from the video Seastrunk and Reed were more impressive than Dyer.

Dyer seemed to be hemmed up on every play then would break loose. In the SEC that's just a tackle for a short gain.

Seastrunk and Reed seemed to have an extra gear.

With Owens they had his bench at 265, if that's his max that's pretty low if he is going to be a DE and Yox will need to get him in the weight room.

thanks FSJ. she had gotten out sunday & monday nights and we couldn't find her. last night we made sure she stayed inside but when my wife was fixing her hair this morning she freaked when she saw a big hole in her left shoulder/arm pit. the girl at the vet thinks it could've been there a day or two. craziness.

BTW, I'm not sure if you have heard but AJ Green is playing Saturday. So now all of a sudden we're going to lose big. This is not to say AJ Green isn't a threat and definitely makes their offense better, but it doesn't make them all of a sudden invincible, as some UGA fans I've heard may think.

AJ Greene was always going to play in this game from everything I heard. It doesn't change a thing. He played in all of their losses at 100%. He is a great player and the best WR in CFB right now IMO, but they still have to get the ball to him.

my problem with the Duck Hunt game is that you are shooting with a dadgum pistol practically. If someone can go shoot a duck with a pistol, that would be amazing. :)

Morning Hotties! Got a quick question- I've been reading a lot on recruiting this morning and everyone I've read about is offense. Granted they all sound wonderful and the films they put out are great, but is our defense getting any big recruits? Seems like this is where we need immediate help or at least depth.

8:47 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Morning Hotties - on this day where we honor our Veterans, I'll once again offer my sincere thanks and eternal gratitude to all of them for the sacrifices they (and their families) have made on behalf of all of us. We have a lot of problems in this country but it's still the best place on God's green earth to live and that's thanks in large part to our Veterans. I appreciate them for all they've done and all they continue to do. Thanks to a bad back, I was never able to serve but I would have if I could have.

just got word from the vet. my cat Prechae is going to be ok after surgery. they've got to stitch her back together and put her on antibiotics. my wallet, however, will feel the brunt of the pain. $300!!!!!!! yikes.

8:48 AM
Blogger Norm said...

Luv - my retina detached a couple of weeks ago and I had surgery to repair it (hopefully). The affected eye is still about 95% useless to me and the way the other eye works for me it's difficult to read anything but what's on a PC, but supposedly over the next few months it'll gradually improve and I'll have to get a contact or some glasses. Then there may be another surgery in about a year from now. But, if this is my most serious complaint in life then things aren't so bad.

auforme- We are doing well on Defense. Here is your defensive commits:

Rivals Star Rankings Used:
3* DT- Kenneth Carter
4* DE- Craig Sanders
4* DE- Joel Bonomolo
3* DE- Justin Delaine
4* LB- LaDarius Owens
3* LB- Jake Holland (Probably end up at 4 star)
3* LB- Jawara White
3* LB- Jessel Curry
3* DB- Jonathan Mincy
3* S- Demetruce McNeal

Targets that Auburn Stands a Good Chance at Landing a Commitment from on Defense:
4* DT- Jeffrey Whitaker
4* DT- Mike Thornton
3* LB- Victor Beasley
4* S- Ahmad Dixon

They are looking at some more players at CB, DE and maybe one more LB.

Hope that helps. A fairly solid class if they can land the ones that are Auburn leans and keep the rest IMO.

Morning, HOTTIEs.

In keeping with the current theme, be sure to say thanks for vets today - both our brave men and women who have served in our armed forces, and the skilled professionals who take care of our pets (I'm married to one of the latter group).

Today would be a good day for those of you with relatives who served to give them a call, just to say thanks.

any takers? i need a reply.

9:38 AM
Blogger patdyeswildturkey said...

touche, eddie, touche...obviously i meant joe cox.

We have to put up major points this weekend, thats just a fact of life with the #12 defense in the SEC. plus a turnover would help.

9:40 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

PDWT- Reed is leanin our way, and if not us, it will be Oregon. LSU is not in the Mix.

As for Seastrunk, he could end up at either Auburn, LSU or USC. Those are the 3 most likely destinations. I would say its a dead heat at this point where Auburn once led.

9:42 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Key to the game:

Get up early. UGA won't be able to overcome a decent deficit. They don't have the heart this year.

Kick the ball through the end zone. Forget kickoff coverage, kick it long and start at the 20. Auburns coverage team will be giving up some major yards if not.

9:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I hope Auburn doesn't have to count on Turnovers. Our Defense is not good, but I'm going out on a limb and saying that they are actually improving and capable of making stops. It falls on the offense again in this game IMO. Cox has been turnover prone, (12 INT's so far), but you can't count on him doing so. Heck, Cox gets intercepted even when he tries to throw the ball out of bounds, that's how bad it's been for Georgia.

Assuming Eddins is on the line next year we will have five seniors starting so its important we have plenty of lineman ready for 2011.

We will have thousands of wide receivers on the roster next year, now I didnt say they were all good. So obviously so of the wideouts we sign this year will maybe play db.

Linbackers - Stevens and BYnes will be seniors, eltoro will be a junior. Pybus I dont think he comes back from the concussions. Herring sounds like his heel surgery is acting up. Gaston is hurt. Evans has played well but he needs time. Those new guys will play immediately.

9:51 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I think the key to the game this weekend, as it is going to be every week is our offense.

If our offense is clicking then we don't have to rely on the D or special teams as much.

If Todd is throwing well and Tate is running well, the rest takes care of itself.

9:54 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

FSJ - technically, yes. But not really. I was on active duty and was deployed during Desert Storm. Spent 3 months away from wifey and tots. But I wasn't deployed to the desert, just as far as England. Somehow or other that seemed to qualify me for a Desert Storm ribbon. So you can thank me today for being a fake veteran.
