I hope Ted Roof can get this D in better shape and deeper because he's a good coach and I want to keep seeing these interviews.

6:13 AM
Blogger Kathy said...

Great video. You can hear Roof's concern for Etheridge. I pray it is just swelling around his spinal cord that might be causing any numbness/weakness of limbs, and he will be back to normal soon. The young can heal so fast.

I think Eltoro played a very good game. Mistakes happened, but you can not deny his heart and effort.

This will be a very busy week for me. Off to work. Have a great Monday and War Eagle!

On another note, I just heard we could be in for dry weather for the next two weeks!!! Dust off the sunglasses.

Good morning and War Eagle!

First of all, my thoughts and prayers go out to Zac Etheridge and his family. I've said this a thousand times - the human body was not made for football.

Secondly, I think the defense made HUGE improvements. I was so glad that Coleman and McFadden had such good games.

Now, if the D just can keep that intensity up for 3 more games...

6:36 AM
Blogger cincytiger said...

Morning, Hotties!

I so hope they are right on the weather for the game this weekend. I'm getting a little tired of ponchos.

What do y'all think happened to Todd between the last 3 weeks and this week? His passes were good, he made good decisions, he looked confident. I guess alot of football really is mental. I'm just glad it looks like he got his mojo back :)

6:41 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Cincy- I'm hoping it was a confidence issue and that he found it again regarding Todd.

6:43 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I started regaining full faith in Todd until in the 4th quarter he dropped back about 15 yards rolled out, then attempted to pass/fumbled.

He didn't make the best of decisions on that play at all. I have no idea what he was thinking on that play.

6:47 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

I don't know if this was discussed previously, but there was play in the second half where Todd was about to get sacked and the ball came out and it was ruled a fumble resulting in a turnover. We were behind the play, so it looked like he fumbled it. But, when we watched it yesterday morning, it looked like he tried to throw it. Shouldn't that have been ruled intentional grounding?

6:51 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

WERK, I guess I was still typing when you posted that!

6:52 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Luv,

I don't know what the deal with that play was, but it was a situation where he probably should have just taken the sack. It was a strange play and could have been a game changer but if I recall correctly the D stood up and held them.

6:58 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I just saw where a guy sold his Bama/LSU tickets for $750 a piece...

Uh...If that is the going rate, I won't be going to that one.

7:00 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

I don't know WTH he was thinking. You're right, though. He should have just taken the sack.

7:02 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

FSJ, that person has more money than sense...

7:03 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Todd definitely made a mistake on that pass/ fumble. He should have eaten it. It could have costed us, but luckily it didn't. Still very happy by the win. The bowl picture has changed completely right now.

7:08 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Speaking of turn arounds... the Vols after beating SC are looking at an 8-4 season with narrow losses to us, UCLA, Alabama and Florida.

That makes me sick.

7:24 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

RK- I'm not surprised by that from UT. I had them finishing a little higher to begin with, but I wasn't far off on how they may finish if they win out. Living in UT Country will make it tougher to stomach, but Lane Kiffen is doing a good job right now up there.

7:30 AM
Blogger IV said...

I think our receivers were running better routes and getting separation against Ole Mith whereas that was not happening so much the previous three games. I think that helped Todd's confidence but I also think that he was slightly injured and had time last week to get better.

7:32 AM
Blogger IV said...

I sure am pulling for Zac to get completely over his injury. I am especially thankful for the Ole Miss RB's presence of mind to not move and possibly cause further injury. He has become one of my heroes even if he doesn't were an Auburn uniform.

7:36 AM
Blogger Ephemeral said...

I was so impressed with how the young man from Ole Miss reacted in Zac's situation. You could see the concern on his face, even with the helmet, etc.

I pray for Zac's full recovery. His FB photo shows him in the hospital with his parents around him. All of them are smiling. They look optimistic.

War Eagle and have a good week!

Right now, my SEC Bowl Prediction for the SEC:

BCS NC Game- Florida
Sugar- Bama
Capitol One- LSU
Outback- Tennessee
Cotton- South Carolina (I know this breaks trend, but I don't think Cotton wants Auburn Back)
Chick-Fil-A- Auburn
Liberty- Ole Miss
Music City- Georgia
Independence- Kentucky

What do you guys think?

8:02 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

Did you place Auburn in the former Peach Bowl for your convenience?

I can see that line up, however if we beat Georgia, I can see us going to the Outback and UT going to the Cotton.

8:06 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

mornin' hotties.

8:06 AM
Blogger coosa said...

Eddie - Looks like good guesses on the bowl picture, but I am conceding nothing at this point. I think LSU has a very good chance at the evil empire, and AU has some kind of a chance. If LSU beats them Saturday, that's got to knock their confidence level down and give us a better chance to beat them. You could see AU all the way up to the Capital One in that case.

Unlikely, but no longer out of the question. Todd is almost back to his pre-season All SEC form. ;)

8:10 AM
Blogger Jay G. Tate said...

Thanks for watching the video!

My current thought is that Auburn will beat Georgia and play in the Outback Bowl.

Then again, the team may revert to LSU form and play in Nashville.

8:12 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

RK- Outback gets to pick the top rated SEC East team if it chooses to and likewise the Cotton Bowl gets to pick the SEC West Team. IF UT wins out, I don't see how Outback would not be jumping all over UT vs an Auburn team that is probably coming off a loss to bama. IF Ole Miss beats UT and Auburn beat Georgia, then I beleive you have a very likely scenerio of Auburn in the Outback with Ole Miss in the Cotton and UT in the Chick-Fil-A. If Ole Miss loses to UT and finishes up at probably 7-5, then I think we see the scenerio below play out if South Carolina finished at 8-4 which would mean a win at Arkansas and Clemson. I just think the Cotton Bowl wants no part of Auburn right now after us not selling nearly the allotment of Tickets from the last time we where there in the 2007 edition.

8:13 AM
Blogger coosa said...

Guess the Pizza Bowl is now out of the picture, unless we somehow lose to Furman. And I was gonna go if we played there. Nashville is too far to drive to go to a football game.

8:15 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I doubt we'll ever see Auburn in the Cotton Bowl again, but that's just fine with me.

8:17 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Coosa- I saw your earlier posts. Glad you found a cheap ticket that was in a good area. Row 48....I was close in my guestimation.

8:17 AM
Blogger coosa said...

Has anyone else been thinking all season that Fanin is a tailback and its a big mistake to play him anywhere else? The last coaching staff didn't seem to want him to be a tailback and this one doesn't either.

Maybe I'm just clueless, but I see him as an All-SEC level TB if they would just put him back there.

8:18 AM
Blogger coosa said...

Eddie, I really thought there were more dry seats in the stadium that that. Weather wasn't that bad, and it became a moot point. But it will be next year before it could make any difference to me.

8:20 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I would be shocked if we honestly fell below the Chick-Fil-a bowl at this point. We would have to look really really bad against both Georgia and Bame, but if Georgia and Auburn had the same 7 win record, they could do that.

8:20 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Coosa- All-SEC RB's don't fumble as much as Fannin does. His touches to Fumbles are one of the worst i've seen. Has to be. I think that is why he is not a full time RB IMO.

8:22 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

how's this eddie?

8:26 AM
Blogger coosa said...

Eddie, yea, he fumbles a lot, but surely that is something the coaches ought to be able to correct. I remember Ronnie Brown being benched for several games because of fumbles. That was when they nearly killed Cadillac by making him carry 40+ times a game.

Brown doesn't seem to have the problem any longer.

8:27 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Love it Scottie! Good deal!

8:28 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

If you watch Fannin run, he runs with the ball flying out and arm not tucked. I'm sure he has been coached different, but his instinct leads him to run like that. We were lucky he fumbled it out of bounds this week. I just honestly believe that is what keeps him for getting more touches. He is a great player, but I just think the coaches lack the confidence to coninually give him the rock, especially running as RB where he is more likely to get hit by the big uglies and middle LB'ers

8:30 AM
Blogger LuvAU41 said...

and in the wrong arm, Eddie. I couldn't believe the way he had the ball out there like that.

8:33 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

I contend that the primary reason Fannin isn't playing more tailback is that we already have one of the best in the country at that position.

8:36 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Freep- I agree, but in today's game, you need 2 great ones if not 3. Fannin is probably only playing RB right now due to McCalebb's injury if you ask me.

8:38 AM
Blogger Wakeriderof87 said...

I really don't see us going to the Outback bowl. The last time a West team went to the Outback was in after the 96 season. Auburn isn't a team that I see them as feeling like they HAVE to have. So In my eyes its Cotton or Peach bowl.

8:43 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

True, but I think the staff has done an outstanding job utilizing Mario's skills while recognizing his weaknesses. So, yeah, his fumble-prone ways certainly limit his touches, but he's been used very effectively in other ways. Kinda reminds me of how Borges used Carl Stewart (although Fannin has more speed).

I think it's time we acknowledge the great job this staff has done (for the most part) in realizing the team's shortcomings and putting them in the best possible position to succeed. Hasn't always worked, hasn't always been a thing of beauty, but is really remarkable under the circumstances.

8:44 AM
Blogger chip chip said...

not sure if anyone pointed it out yet, but the RB who lay under ZE while he was down was committed to AU through much of the 2008 recruiting cycle.

btw, enrique davis? paging enrique davis? we have your five stars from your recruiting ranking at lost and found... i don't remember seeing him take a carry saturday. maybe ole miss will take it in the shorts this time for stealing one of tubby's 5 star can't miss specials.

It was also nice to watch two guys that could be playing LB for AU right now (Trahan and DT Shackleford), but for whatever reason aren't, eat a big fat L.

8:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Freep- Well said!

8:48 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I personally can not wait until Saturday...

8:49 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

BTW, I said before the UK game that a win there would qualify the 2009 season as a success. The victory over Ole Nutt (assuming, of course, a win over the Palladins) meets that standard for me.

I was one of the naysayers who assumed that we would go 5-7 or possibly even worse this year - not because I didn't think our coaching staff were up to the task, but that we just didn't have the bodies to survive the long 11-week grind against a pretty tough slate of opponents. The fact that we are talking about possible NYD bowls is evidence that we have surpassed even my most optimistic forecasts.

8:50 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Coosa,

The first run of the game by Fannin was really his highlight reel. He cut to the outside and showed a great burst, but was running with the ball out wide from his body and got it knocked out. Luckily it went out of bounds.

The skill is there, but he's not careful with the ball sometimes.

8:50 AM
Blogger Jet said...

One of FSJ's heroes ... Gene Stallings ... was fond of saying that you play 90 plays in a game for the privilege of making the 3 or 4 that decide the game.

Flip 3 or 4 plays in that game and the result is likely much different.

1. Recovering the fumble on the opening kickoff.
2. Fannin's fumble, if recovered by Ole Miss.
3. The overturned interception, if upheld on review.
4. Covering the kickoff instead of letting Grandy go the distance.
5. And, yes, not returning a botched extra point 95 yards for a 2-pointer.

That's why football is so much fun and breath-taking. Games can turn on a dime several times.

9:00 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

And here's your trivia for the day:

After 9 weeks, there are currently 20 BCS Conference teams that are bowl eligbile.

AU is one of them.

Oklahoma (#3 in the AP Poll preseason), VA Tech (#7), Ole Miss (#8), UGa (#13), FSU (#18), UNC (#21) and Nebraska (#24) are not.

9:00 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

Freep- I'm not completely sure, but i'm sure all those schools have played 1 less game than AU to be fair.

9:02 AM
Blogger Scott M. Brannan said...

i still can't believe we dropped all those potential interceptions. kudos to McFadden for making his play, though. that was fun.

9:05 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Jet:

I agree with Stallings on that. It is so true..

He also has a long running argument with Coach Dye on Finebaum about whether you can get a team up each week. Coach Stallings says that you only play 12 games so why shouldn't you be up for each one. Coach Dye says that you can only get a team up four or five times a year. I agree with Dye.

9:08 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

By the way, does anyone think Jevon Snead might wear his emotions on his sleeve?

9:08 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

That's correct, Eddie - but would you have predicted before the season started that AU would get to 6 wins before any of those teams would have?

I know I didn't.

9:08 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

From preseason I've been wrong on three Auburn games so far.

I thought they'd beat UK and lose to UT and Ole Miss.

9:09 AM
Blogger Jet said...

FSJ ...

Dye is absolutely correct about that.

9:11 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Faker, I agree with Mean Gene.

There's no reason on earth why a team should ever show up "flat". Granted, some opponents will always get you more fired up than others.

But I never accepted the Dye philosophy (also embraced by Tuberville) that you could only get your team 'up' for maybe a third of their games every season. That's the main reason AU didn't play for an SEC championship (or more) in 2006, IMHO.

9:13 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

How many of you are like me in this....

I enjoy weekends where we either have an off date or a chump team to play, especially when my teams' biggest rival has a huge game.

It's very relaxing.

So this week y'all get to relax and I'll be refunding breakfast by 10:30 on Saturday morning.

9:13 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

No matter what, that Kentucky loss this year still makes me sick.

9:15 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Ain't it grand to be talking about bowl games?

9:16 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I think Dye has a very unique place in SEC football....

He's the only coach I know of that can easily move among the power players within three SEC programs without much hatred.

Dye is close with Mal Moore and a bunch of power players at UA.

His ties to AU are obvious...

And he was a great player at UGA.

9:16 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

My Preseason Picks are kicking my during season picks by a long shot. I'm 57-11 in preseason SEC Picks compared to 49-18. (We forgot to pick an early season game in the picks is the difference in overall)

My Preseason SEC Team Record Predictions:
Alabama- 9-3 (Way Wrong there)
Arkansas- 7-5
Auburn- 8-4
LSU- 11-1
Ole Miss- 10-2 (Other Way Wrong)
MSU- 4-8
Florida- 12-0
Georgia- 5-7
Kentucky- 5-7
USC- 4-8 (Way Wrong here too)
Tennessee- 9-3
Vandy- 4-8

Sorry, bored today, so I shared this.

9:17 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Looks like you were right on about AU.

9:19 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

And you were very close about UT.

9:20 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

mytommy- It is definitely Grand.

Habotn goes as Auburn goes. It is more alive this morning than last week. That is a positive.

Dye- He may have some ties to bama but I believe he hates them with a passion. I'm pretty sure of that from things i've heard.

9:20 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

FSJ - Do you think Vince Dooley would be put in that group with Dye?

9:20 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Eddie,

Even when you believe that Ole Miss or Houston Nutt is going to have a 10 win season, you just can't predict it.

9:21 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Nevermind - you said three

9:21 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

tommy,

Possibly....

He played at AU, and coached at UGA..

The only other SEC program I can think of where he may have some insight would be UA because of his friendship with Saban.

9:22 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

I didn't post any W/L records, but my preseason picks were like this:

WEST:
1. Bama
2. LSU
3. Ole Nutt
4. Arky
5. Auburn
6. MSU

EAST:
1. Florida
2. UGa
3. UT
4. SC
5. UK
6. Vandy

I hoped AU would manage 6 wins and a bowl game, and it looks like we'll do a little better than I predicted.

I fully expected Bama to win the SEC Championship and play in the BCS Title game. And I still do.

9:22 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

RK- Those are wise words to live buy and i should know because it applied to Tuberville as well.

9:24 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Eddie,

He may hate us with a passion but he's been pumping us up all year. He did admit that when he was coaching that he never would have voted UA #1 no matter what on his ballot.

I was mainly referring to relationships with power players. There's some clip on Youtube of him speaking with Mal at some booster function. He was telling all kinds of Bryant stories and really taking up for Mal. Also, I know that DuBose used to have him up for practice and such.

9:25 AM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

I'm sure Dye still has some close relations with UA's "old school" crowd like Moore.

But I gathered from his autobiography that his devotion was to Bryant, not Bama.

9:25 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

Freep...

Hope you are right... :-P

9:26 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

FSJ- He definitely is, but I think he is being legitimate in his predictions, This year's Bama team is very appealing to the old time ball coaches that believe in great defense and ball control IMO.

9:29 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Okay so it's a lot easier to watch a game and not get too upset when you already know how the game ends. Coleman and McFadden and the D look like they're coming into their own. Furman then UGA then a break then Bama. This actually may be setting up nice for recovery time for the last weeks of the season.

9:31 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

The more you hear Ted Roof, the more you have to love the guy.

9:32 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

I also think that recovery time will also help Mr Todd.

9:32 AM
Blogger FSJ said...

I thought Todd's arm looked great for the most part on Saturday.

9:33 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I'm hoping recovery time helps McCalebb.

9:34 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I did too FSJ.

9:35 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

I hope we come in with a little bit of a killer instinct and put this weekends game away early so we can rest some of the starters.

9:39 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

With our problem with depth do we have enough back ups to rest starters?

9:43 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

We have back ups...quality back ups is a different story, but with 75 people out there on scholarship and with walk ons, we have enough to field a few teams.

9:45 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

I do hope we get a lot of players some rest. We may even play some walkons. I am thinking at linebacker guys like Chris Humphries should get some playing time.If Craig Stevens or Josh Bynes were to get injured, we would be screwed.

9:46 AM
Blogger Eddie McCoy said...

I would like to believe that we could rest starters early against Furman. If not, that stinks. I think we can and will.

9:48 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

So who will be UGA's QB when we play them?

9:53 AM
Blogger mytommyd said...

Just had to do a quick look and they are 4-4 with losses to Missouri, Elon, The Citadel, and AppState. I would like to think our backups can handle finshing up the job. And the earlier the better.

9:54 AM
Blogger digger4au said...

The win Saturday feels just as good this Monday morning as it did Sunday morning. My prayers are still going out to Zac Etheridge and his family.
I have watched the replay twice now and the "fumble" by Chris was another bad call. It WAS a throw away and should have been intensionally grounding. It is a puzzle to me how the offcials do not review Auburns plays like they do other teams. There was a caught pass and fumble by Oe Sis that was also not reviewed. LOVE those SEC officials.

9:54 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

Digger,

My problem with the Todd "fumble" isn't the officials, I want to know why he didn't just take a sack instead of leaving it up to the refs. That was an ugly play and one where the old "live to punt" rule should apply.

9:59 AM
Blogger digger4au said...

I agree he should have thrown it into the nickle seats or eaten it.
But that does not excuse the lack of replay calls where Auburn is concerned

10:07 AM
Blogger Jet said...

The goal Saturday is to score 2-3 times quickly, then play Caudle, Blake, Benton, Sullen, Harris, Lutz, and on defense, Adam Herring and the Pips, T'Sharvan, Harry Adams (oops, maybe not), Dee Ford, Gabe McK, and the rest of the reserves.

10:07 AM
Blogger WarEagleRK said...

If we wanted a replay on that, we could have thrown the flag.

10:08 AM
Blogger wtc said...

Eddie-The only problem with your bowl prediction is that Ole MIss has to beat either UT, LSU or MSU to qualify. they play a lower division team this weekend, which is their 2nd of the year, and does not count toward the total for eligibilty. They may make, but the remaining teams are awful tough this time of year.

10:10 AM
Blogger wtc said...

Jet-Money says McKenzie does notplay this Saturday.

10:11 AM
Blogger Jet said...

We established yesterday the catch and fumble/incomplete pass is not eligible for review. The whistle blew when he signaled the pass incomplete. Play dead. That's it.

I'll take the no review on the Todd bonehead play in exchange for the very generous overturn on the Ole Miss interception in the first half.

10:11 AM
Blogger Jet said...

I don't wager on such matters, but it would wise for Gabe to play in order for AC, Carter and Goggans to rest.
