  • Northwestern second possession: INTERCEPTION. Neiko Thorpe got this one. That's four now.

  • Northwestern fourth possession: TOUCHDOWN. Drake Dunnsmore 67 pass from Kafka. Demos PAT kick good. Drive covers 67 yards in 1 play. Dunnsmore broke tackles against Demond Washington and Walt McFadden. It was bad.

Wow, the announcers actually say something interesting. Arm strenght is about the 6th or 7th thing you worry about with a QB. That is very true and we talk about arm strength way too much. I just isn't the critical thing with a QB.

What a game today. A couple of notes:

I emailed ESPN to let them know how much Greise loved NW.
AU plays hard but needs to get the penalties under control.
8-5 is better than 7-6.
Chizik will be fine at AU.
We had the stage to ourself and still did not capitalize.
Hopefully with more talent coming, AU can run this offense with better efficiency.

10:45 PM
Blogger Kathy said...

Tired of Disney, is that possible?

10:48 PM

Listening to Greise today was sickening... I've never witnessed such a pathetic display of homerism in the booth than that.

Hopefully Gus gets a better feel for what he can and can't run at certain times next year.

Obviously, he's just not totally comfortable with what he has to work with. Some of the play calls were just bizarre.

wtc, I agree on Greise. I guess since he played at Perdue he has a built-in prejudice for the Big 10. His comments about the roughing the kicker call were laughable. Especially in light of the earlier no-call on NW for running into our punter.

Could it be that Tebow won't be able to run for president because he was born in the Phillipines? Man!!!!

10:58 PM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

Personally, I'd rather hear more about Tebow than about Urban Meyer.

This whole 'leave of absence' thing is going to blow up in his face. If I was recruiting against him I wouldn't hesitate to tell prospects that he's as big a nutcase as Leach. Maybe bigger.

10:58 PM

Turfman-I did hear clapping when NW came back. I thought it was actually being done by those inthe booth, but I could not really tell.

11:01 PM
Blogger cincytiger said...

I'm sick of hearing about Corch Irvin Meyer, too, almost as much as I got sick of hearing how NW hadn't won a bowl game in 60 years. Why do they have to go on and on about the same thing?

11:01 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

I feel sorry for the Cincy kids too. They played hard even with their coach abandoning them. It is just the difference between the SEC and most other conferences. The number two team in the SEC is better than most.

But I am very excited about Auburn football next year. I think it is going to be a very good year.

Anyone know what the announcers were talking about when they were discussing Kelly leaving? They said something about the NCAA changing rules so that coaches could stay and coach the bowl game before going to a new school. I didn't understand what they were talking about.

11:04 PM

Good night, HOT ONES.

11:05 PM
Blogger Unknown said...

We have an excellent chance of having a great year next season. I don't see any huge holes to fill if we get most of this recruiting class in house.

I am also looking to see how Mike McNeil doesn't next season. He was suppose to be the #1 safety in the nation coming out of high school. If he picks up his game, our defense could really look good.

I would like to have another playmaker at defensive tackle, but other than that I think we are set.

That is assuming that some of this QB talent proves to translate into solid play.

I hate to be doom and gloom so let’s just say Roof has alot to prove. I was in favor of bringing in a DC from the NFL. Someone who would bring a more disciplined style of play for the Defense. There is no doubt bringing in more playmakers on the offense will make it lethal. With 6 scholorship Special Teams players we better be good there too or it will be a waste.

Blogger Unknown said...

I do like Roof and I would not favor getting a coordinator from the pros. Coaching in the pros is far different from coaching in college. Dealing with the mentality of kids is much different that dealing with the mentality of profressionals. I do think Roof will be a very good DC and I think we have seen it this season with how he handled the situation. On offense we didn't have the ridiculous depth problems we had on defense.

Most of the season we only had around 3 linebackers that the coaches thought were ready to play. Typically you would have over twice that many.

Depth in the secondary looked to be a strength until attrition took its toll. We weren't in much better shape in the secondary after the season got rolling. Etheridge getting injured put us is a seriously bad situation.

On the defensive line, things were not as bad. Rocker had said he had about 9 players he felt comfortable playing, which is about right.

I think the jury's still out on Roof. He'll never put up the kind of numbers previous coordinators did because 1) the game has changed and opposing offenses are much more potent, and 2) our own offense puts our defense on the field many more times than our power running offenses would have. Given his limited resources and the injuries I think he did "OK". He has received a lot of credit from other coaches for the job he did in stopping the Alabama power running game.

OK - I've had it with the Atlanta Journal Constitution. Auburn has Atlanta's third largest fan base (remember - Atlanta is as large as the State of Alabama), and yet we get NO press. We only get write-up's when we're Georgia's opponent.

Good one THT. We could use him.

Jay W., I don't think CJ Mosley is likely, but nothing would totally shock me with this staff. They do perform miracles.

Anyone know what are realistic chances are with Lemonier?

We'll have to wait for wtc (and his mom) to quit playing at Disney to get his answer on Corey. Mr. Miller might be able to give us his opinion.

Haven't seen a lot written about Lemonier.

As for Lattimore, I do think we have a realistic shot at him.

Thank you! I thought I had read where our chances were pretty good, but FSU seems to be putting together a pretty good class.

Corey Lemonier is doing very well.. would love to add him to the stable

We look good with Lattimore and with Lemonier... USCe and FSU will be the ones to beat with those two respectively... however, I think we currently hold a lead for both.

yep, last week, wtc's mom thought we had a real good chance with Lemonier.

What about Eric Mack? Think Dyer can convince him?

DM, that would be incredible. This recruiting season has been like no other I have seen at Auburn. In September I thought we were doing about average, or possibly a bit below average.

Now I look at our class and it may be the best we have had at Auburn. That isn't assuming we get someone else, which is likely.

You have to admire the choices Chizik has made, particularly in terms of selecting coaches. It also seems pretty hilarious how some people were against the hire. Remember Billy Joe Bob at the airport? I wonder where that kid is now?

Anyone think that kid doing the halftime show might need to get mommy to help him pull his pants up?

I was thinking he probably has a day job as a plumber.

"Sure, Fitz, that may have helped the good ol' boy from the Auburn press corps who called you "one crazy coot." .....

Consider Auburn had to lose two fumbles in the final 2:37 and commit a face-mask penalty and roughing-the-kicker penalty to put the Wildcats in a position they never would have been in against a team whose players' football IQ was higher than its national ranking."

Hey peeps.

I arrived home around 3 a.m. from Tampa. I owed you all a post-game report last night, but I had a loooooong drive ahead and getting out of Raymond James Stadium was my top priority.

So I'm working on a wrap-up now.

Any feelings on these guys:

Jeff Whitaker
Mike Thornton

AU Undercover, which has been dead on when it comes to AU commitments this year, has reported that Lemonier is a lock (supposedly to commit today) and that Whitaker, Thornton, and Lattimore are AU bound. Also noted that they have a "strong belief" that Mack will de-commit from SC and come to AU.

AU Undercover been 100% correct so far, and if they nail these 5, we'd quite possibly round out a top 3 class. Very exciting year for AU!
