Recruiting consolidation
Hey everyone. Thanks for making Sunday the biggest traffic day of the new here here at the HABOTN. My Sunday recruiting story earned twice as many hits as Tim Gayle's story about Alabama's "championship celebration," which I found interesting.
Maybe Alabama's13th eighth MNC isn't that important.
Anyway, I penned a little recruiting story for today's editions: Tigers make positive impression on two DTs
You hardcore recruitniks like wtc's mom know this stuff already, but I tried to make this story fun. Please have a read.

CONSOLIDATION SUBSTANCE!!!!
Awesome recruiting coverage Jay G
Dmiller-I agree wit Norm, which isn't often, about the running shoes from a high end store. I buy a new pair after about 350 miles or so. Also, I purchased a sole insert. I remove the insert that comes with the shoe and put the others in. They have worked great for me.
The halhigdon site is very good. I have used it for training purposes for the 1/2 and full marathons I have run.
I like elliptical machines.
Running on a treadmill, for whatever reason, makes my hips hurt. I probably have bad posture .. . or maybe I'm a little too heavy.
Either way, I'd rather hit the Cybex® Arc Trainer. That's what I'm talkin' about.
Thanks, MJT.
FYI: I spend $100 per pair on my shoes, Asics Nimbus. They last me a year. I had a legit footwear expert size me up and he determined that Asics was best for me. Never heard for Asics before that.
So ... that's all I wear now.
FYI: i sell Asics & New Balance shoes. never pay full retail. ever. u know how to find me.
I wait until they go from $129 to $99, but I'll certain holla.
I'm almost ready for a new pair, in fact.
Asics makes some great shoes. I like them. Saucony has some lightweight shoes, but can strain your knees as they do nothave enough cushion, IMO. I now have a pair of New Balance. They are fantastic for a 'heavy' runner. I am considered a heavy runner, over 6' and over 200 lbs. Good stability and good tread wear.
My running partner has the Nimbus. He is as tall as me but about 20 lbs lighter. He lieks them alot.
Thanks, JGT! Great article.
Norm... and others... Have you ever heard of, and if so what are your thoughts on, FiveFingers running shoes?
They look weird, but I've had a bunch of people recommend them...
i'm out for awhile.
Five Finger Death Punch?
I didn't know they made shoes.
I got $80 Asics (gel 2.0 or something?) and they feel 1,000 times better than the $140 New Balances I got last. I have plantar fasciitis issues in both feet. Normally I have to wear special insoles, but I don't even need them in my Asics. Good arch support and all that.
Side note: I developed plantar fasciitis couple of years ago from running on a treadmill. Treadmills are evil.
Dmiller-I have seen kids wearing them but no 'runners'. Here is an article to read.
http://www.runnersworld.com/article/0,7120,s6-240-400--12828-0,00.html
Miller - I'm not familiar with that brand. I've run through at least 5 pair of Mizuno running shoes (I forget the model) and I'd just bought some Brooks before I was "medically redshirted" from running after my surgery. I also agree with wtc about the inserts.

I have heel problems.... a year or so ago, in a softball game, I injured my heel on my left foot. (crushed the padding and had a slight fracture in the bone)... It is kinda healed up (no pun... ok, yes pun)... but still gives me fits from time to time.
I was told a lot of x-country runners wear the fivefingers...
My wife pitched a fit for a pair, bought some and loves them so far... we have just started walking/jogging...
D. Miller, there's no shortage of good suggestions from the Hotties, is there? :-)
That's why I come here first when I need opinions... Hotties have valued opinions.
Love the Running talk.
I have Asics and absolutely love them. I was sized up for them and with my bad knees, they are perfect in the cushioning they provide. I am switching completely over to Asics now. The other shoe recommended was Brooks... I had never heard of them before, so I'm curious to hear how you like them Norm.
Also, I love the elliptical machine, but only really good ones. The one at my gym (Life Fitness 95X)is the best for me and if I go to other gyms, usually avoid them and stick with the treadmill.
I hit the elliptical machine usually 7 Days a week on top of my running. I'm addicted to it. I'm sure running longer distances would be easy on me if I cut back on working out everday, but I love to start out each day burning 1,100 calories. On days I run (Sunday's), I only burn 600 calories so I have some left in the tank later on in the day.
Jay G., I prefer the elliptical too, but the gym I go to now doesn't have one. :-( All he has are a couple of treadmills and a stepper. I refuse to use the stepper, so I use the treadmill. Maybe that's why my hip always bothers me...
I just bought a pair of Mizuno Wave 12's, and I like them so far, I'm a little concerned that they won't have enough padding on longer runs, but I rarely run over 5 miles anyway. My last running shoes were high end Asics and had more padding, and had every intention of buying another pair, but I found a great deal on the Mizunos and the Wave 12 is what my sisters ex had recommended (he is at UF on a XC scholarship). So far I like the lighter feel of the Mizunos.
oops, I meant arc trainer!
Miller - I also agree about the treadmills and avoid them if possible. If you're training indoors, go with the elliptical if one is available. We have a pretty decent treadmill in the basement and I'll use it for convenience or weather purposes but usually I'm running outside. Other than that, you ought to have some decent starting advice.
This is becoming The Fittest Auburn Blog on The Net with all this running talk.
The real runners I know wear Asics or Mizuno. Just sayin'.
That better than the Fattest Auburn Blog On The Net.
Hotties just looking out for other Hotties and promoting fitness...nothing wrong with that at all.
JayG thinks I'm a real runner.
Or at least I fit in with them.
oh, we sell Mizuno too. i've had 3 pair of running shoes from them and been pretty happy. of course, i never run more than 5 miles at a time either.
the best shoes i ever had were Brooks i got from a running specialty store in lexington, ky. they were fantastic, but expensive.
Didn't say there was anything wrong with it.
Miller/Wake - Mizuno Waves are the models I've predominately used, I just couldn't remember the Wave part earlier. You should plan on replacing whatever you ultimately choose after 300 - 400 miles running on them.
CFN doesn't even have AC in the top 35 DE's in the draft, that is hard to believe.
http://cfn.scout.com/2/938817.html
Will a running shoe store be pissed if I go in and get them to tell me what kind of shoe I need, then I walk out to order from Scottie?
Should I care?
By the way, the Page 2 Goblin is still keeping me from clicking the second page of MA articles. So Jay G, if from now on you can make sure you really front load your articles, that'd be great.
Wake - scout has him as the #13 OLB
Get Down Goblin > Page 2 Goblin.
DM, u gotta do what ya gotta do.
NOTE: i'm not soliciting for bidness. just trying to help the family. :)
Miller, likely they'll never know. I'd just recommend using the specialty store for advice on your first couple of pairs until you've settled on something that works for you. The specialty store near me is actually pretty comparably priced to the larger box retailers nearby. No idea how they compare to Hottie Scottie though. FWIW as I recall, I think I went away from Mizuno for Brooks on this most recent purchase because the Brooks felt slightly lighter, the overall comfort and support was almost identical. The price point between the two was pretty comparable too.
Just saw that Michael, much less confused now.
Sorry if previously posted...
Runaway Lane (Lane Kiffin Song)
Only thing I have ever worn from Mizuno were some baseball cleats... They were good cleats.
Already posted Eddie, but appreciated every time.
generally we can sell shoes for 25% retail prices. if you can get a deal better than that it's better to get it on sale at your selected local retailer.
Ok....I think I may head out to fleetfeet today and get sized up... you guys have me motivated... at least for now.
I will count on you all to keep me motivated though.
or maybe a visit to trakshack
me too DM. i feel like a slacker for doing just 3 miles on the treadmill yesterday. what a slacker.
Miller - I'll tell you this, I'm not one of those who love running. Not even close. I don't enjoy it while I'm doing it at all but I'm always glad I did it when I finish. I like tracking my progress and seeing improvements from one outing to another on a given route. But typically while I'm running I'm thinking about how much further I have to go and how long it'll take me.
AC will play linebacker in the NFL ... just like Marcus Washington.
MJT -- The Page Two Goblin strikes again! It's weird, I never have a problem. I guess the Jan Terri gods appreciate my sacrifices more than yours.
Between my senior year of HS and my sophmore year of college (when I was in the best shape of my life)... I ran religiously. One of my best friends ran XC at West Alabama and I trained/ran with him during the summers.... we were running 15-17 miles per day... I was never one that loved the running part, but I did feel better...
That was nearly 10 years and about 60 lbs ago....
so, whatever happened to Carmelita?
The county won't give me no more methadone,
and they cut off your welfare check.
Thanks for the Runaway Lane video, Eddie. It does seem that Al Davis turned into a profit.
OK - back to football; anybody else notice that a relatively young group of 'veterans' escorted the prospects around campus and the town?
As for the exercise discussion - great but I'm going to be doing mental reps in my recliner with my left hand on the remote.
Dead thread.
Everybody must be out running.
Monty as a Wal Mart greeter is the best.
Wow, that was a lot of running talk - made me hungry. I'm gonna go eat some Mexican food for lunch.
G, Like the AC and Washington comparison. If AC can be that good then he will have a good career.
There is a good chance that Lattimore and possibly Mack will unofficially visit this weekend. I think Latt is already in the bag but he does visit then it's a done deal.
I'm hearing that the walmartians didn't turn out very well on Saturday.
What do you mean CH=B?
I heard the turn out wasn't what was expected and that some of the fans were turned off by it.
I remember Isaiah Thomas doing commercials for Asics Gel shoes in the late 80's or early 90's.
I was there.. It's pretty good to get 38,000 in one place under the threat of rain.
Also...Mal Moore's wife passed away today after a decade or longer battle with Alzheimer's.
FSJ, just curious but how did you ever get hooked on this site? I mean I got hooked quickly, but I am an Auburn guy. I'm sure you have been asked this a million times.
Sorry to hear that.
I don't think that 38k is all that good. Even the leader of the walmartians Paul Slimball wasn't impressed.
This is ridiculous. Because guy had a birthday, I can't make money in the stock market today. Dang!!! Dang!!! Dang!!!
You also can't lose any
That's horrible news FSJ. For the first time in my life prayers and best wishes to Mal Moore and his family.
You may have a point, but where is the excitement in that? These weekend things always irritate me. Shouldn't that be enough?
FSJ, sorry to hear about Mal Moore's wife. I wasn't aware she had alzheimer's. That is truly one of the hardest diseases for a family to deal with.
Anyone seeing all the rumors about the Kiffins?
Maybe a little side girl action?
Steve you are correct. My wife has a grandmother that has it and it's tough.
CH=B...
Clay Travis who wrote the book last year on UT football was on JOX a few minutes ago. He said Kiffin should be very concerned. My question is if everybody knew all this before he left..then why wasn't it reported?
As far as how I ended up here. I used to read ITAT...One night in the 2008 season Jay's blog was linked over there. I followed the link and happened to arrive during a campfire. I was hooked shortly thereafter. I do like being the oddball at times so it was a good fit.
As far as the 38,000. I think it was a good turnout with the weather situation....Since when did Auburn fans start paying attention to Finebaum's opinion? :-P
Alzheimer's is a terrible disease. My great grandmother suffered with it. It is harder on the family than it is on the person with it...but it is frustrating for them early on in the progression of the disease because they can't do all the things they once could.
I think Nancy Reagan probably said it best about the disease when she called it the "long goodbye."
So what did Kiffin do now?
FSJ - I think it is pretty obvious why accusations are just now coming out about Kiffin. The reason UT people who might have "known" things didn't say anything while he was there was because they wanted to protect UT football. Now they are mad at Kiffin, so it is time to throw him under the bus. Count Clay Travis in that boat. The guy has been a Kiffin lover this last fall, and all of a sudden he has a ton of ammo for an anti-Kiffin article right after Kiffin announced he was leaving.
People hide things when it helps the team they are fans of.
Note: I have no idea if the Kiffin stuff is true, just commenting on how it makes sense that it is just now coming out.
crazy people on here today talking about running.
Don't y'all know you can get hurt running?
THT - you're right, while running I've had to jump right over a Copperhead snake and I've narrowly avoided being broadsided by a large deer. But that's just the way things go with wildlife, I tend to avoid parked cars so they don't give me any trouble.
I read an article about a new method for detecting Alzheimer's not long ago. The method was something that could easily be done at regular eye exams. They put something in the eye that was suppose to allow the optician to detect the deterioration in the brain. The most amazing thing is they claimed they could detect Alzheimer's 20 years before the symptoms would appear, which would allow early preventative measures. The bad thing would be, would you want to know you had Alzheimers 20 years before your symptoms would develop?

that's ok, LUV. I have a reasonable idea. I saw a Carmelita this morning and I've been singing Zevon's song since.
but you might want to delete your email address now that i've copied it
Someone enlighten me. What did kiffin do now?
Did we miss a Beasley?
Michael is spot on. It's despicable. Well, unless it's your team that's being protected, I guess.
Re: JGT's article, Whittaker's verbiage has me thinking we're not his preliminary choice. Am I too far off on that impression?
congrats on the Beasley, but happened to my Darvin Adams post????!!!!! how sad.
Wasn't even paying attention to the post count. Whew, dodged that bullet!
nice set up, digger!
Crap, we have an Adams tradition, too?
First off Mr. Tate you just keep hitting them out of the ball park. Great work that we all enjoy
MY only words on Mr. Kiffin, rumors should be ignored but that is so hard to do. It seems that infidelity is so prevalent in show business and sports that we believe all we read about these people. I do not like Kiffin but refuse to spread rumors.
Carmelita and J-Z ran away together and have started a popcorn farm outside of Bakersfield.
Aeronaut, Kiffikin apparently pulled a Terry Bowden with some Co-eds.
popcorn farm....ausome.
the Adams post is my tradition. just my little way to show love to kennesaw, georgia.
weagle - I think we're his first choice, but I'm very concerned now that the Cowboys lost, UGA's new DC will be there for Whit's visit this weekend and the Richt's vote for change could sway him to make the same mistake many Americans have made.
Wow, talk about your run on sentence.
I am so happy to hear abour Camela and j-z they should make a happy couple and live happily for ever after. Unless Jet goes along.
Now, we're not ones to go around spreading rumors
Why, really, we're just not the gossiping kind
No you'll never hear one of us repeating gossip
So you better be sure and listen close the first time!
I didn't go to Bakerfield, Digger.
I left that for the happy couple.
I sure wish Montgomery had a sports radio talk show.
I was just telling Longshore the same thing the other day.
So...Lane Kiffin = Tiger Wood's Part Deux?
Jet that be good, nothing but trouble in that thar town.
This comment has been removed by the author.
digger...
Is that a pay site? I was denied access.
No let me try again
http://www.atom.com/fun_games/tiger_woods_defense/
Longshore is a complete idiot. I hate slimbaum with a passion, but at least sometimes he knows what he is talking about.
On the forth hole I got a "Ho Down".
That's great.
I think I'm the only person that likes the "Round Table". I think it's funny and they are pretty unbiased most of the time.
Sorry to hear about Mal Moore's wife's passing. Alzheimer's is a horrible thing to deal with. My Grandfather had it, and watching how it affected him during his battle was one of the hardest things I have ever had to endure. I'm sure Mal is feeling some pain and sorrow right now, but he also probably has a feeling of relief knowing that his wife isn't having to suffer through that awful disease any longer. She's in a better place now.
I only got one the first time but try again, I got better.
There's a rumor that coach orgeron was seen consuming crack or something.
lol like someone had to 'see' that to know. I think orgeron could snort billy mays under the table.
That's fun. I made it to hole 6 on my 1st try. Love the captions after you "nail" her
Yea that is funny and the whole thing is fun to play
aero, that is funny but I am not sure that kook even needs anything.
Anyone who would take off his shirt and challenge a football team to a fight is snorting something.
Coach O is still one of my favorite color commentators.
A Falcon's doctor told me that one can tell a steroid user because they're puffy (water retention). Seen the recent pictures of the svelte Mr. Megwire? Maybe he decided to be a fit hottie and bought some Asics.
"Glen W. Bell Jr. , founder of fast-food chain Taco Bell, dies at age 86"
Now I know why it is called Taco Bell.
Bell was said to be trying his latest diet fad when he passed away of a heart attack.
Anyone tried the Taco Bell drive through diet yet?
Digger
Thanks for the game I just shot a 25 on my 4th time
Thanks
Since some of you asked about this guy in the wake of the Iron Bowl...let's play "Caption that Pic"....
Strength Coach
I think Mal's facial expression is priceless.
Well, as usual I am late to the conversation. But, I went to TrakShack and got fitted for good shoes. I pronate really badly so they put me in Muzuno Wave Renegades. They are awesome shoes. I don't run though, only do elliptical. At $140 a pair I hope to never have to replace them :)
We are buying a new elliptical trainer next month. I need some good suggestions. Our current on is a Nordic Track, we are planning on going much higher end with the next one. I want an electric one that you can set different workouts - and one with a fan!
Dang you digger...
That game is addictive.
Cincy- I suggest the Life Fitness 95X. That is top notch and the one I will buy when I have the money. Best elliptical machine I've ever been on.
FSJ,
That guy is a Grade A nutjob... did they find him at Bryce?
I guess we know now who Jimmy Johns was selling blow to inside the football complex!
$140 for a pair of shoes?! SHEEE-ITE!
I can't afford that.... maybe this running thing isn't such a good idea.
13 over par.
Cinci...
After many test rides my wife liked the Precor machines the best, for whatever that's worth.
the fight over kiffykin's last ut interview
i didn't realize kiffy was so tall.
That pre-Kiffikin meeting was ridiculous. Mr. Paper Tap should have simply said what was going to happen. Anyone unwilling to abide by the rules should leave. Anyone disobeying the rules will be banned from the campus. Discussion over.
chip chip..I'd be interested to hear Jay's thoughts on that video..
Very entertaining.
Yes FSJ it is. I am not too good at it both Bigdaddy and CH+B are much better than I am.
As someone who has worked in the media, that was quite awesome. Thanks for posting.
Tennesee has nobody to blame but Tennessee. Kiffikin was just being Kiffikin. It is like blaming a fish for swimming. Al Davis told Tennessee Kiffikin would screw them. Kiffikin screwed them. Why would a Tennessee fan be surprised?
2 over par. I guess you can say I'm good at hitting the.....
Cincytiger - after you've had your new elliptical for a month, let me know if I should buy that brand. Though in all honesty, I can't picture myself buying (and certainly not using) exercise equipment.
Miller - just find the shoes that work for you. A specialty store should watch you run a bit before they suggest a few likely selections for you then let you try those on and run a bit in those for you to make your choice. You're not buying a $50 pair of Converse, you're investing in your feet, knees and lower back. As I mentioned earlier, my particular running specialty store of choice is competitively priced with the big box retailers. But, you might be well-served to determine the shoes for you and then check with Hottie Scottie or someplace else online and maybe save a few $. Either way, if both wtc and I agree that you (or any runner) needs to go on and spend a bit more for shoes it must be legit. If two hotties say it, it must be true right?
FWIW, I've yet to spend more than $120 on a single pair of shoes for running. Now; adding the shoes, replacement insoles and other accessories and I'm in the $200 ballpark but I don't have to buy those other items every time I buy shoes.
FSJ, Mal Moore looks like he's thinking, "WTH is wrong with this guy???" LOL
I have spent that much on my Birkenstocks, but can't run in them worth a crap. Go figure.
al davis was right!
i just wanted to be able to say i said that and not sound like an idiot myself. i may never get the chance to type those words again.
D. Miller, throw on your sneakers and come take a walk with me! LOL
Small twin engine plane just crashed down the road from me. Looks like the pilot try to land in an open area.
Miller - let me also add this last bit, if you're just getting started, you're probably good with whatever is already in your closet. Once you get to the point where you're running 3+ miles consistently multiple times per week, then I think you need to look at investing in some genuine running shoes. That's my opinion and that's how I did it. I started out running with some run-of-the-mill Saucony's that I already had and I thought they were alright. Once I spent the $ on my first Mizuno Wave pair, it was like the difference between night and day.
Kathy that is awful. You aren't too far from the Airport are you?
I agree with Norm's last statement. I just used my run of the mill New Balance shoes and when I started consistently hitting the 3 Mile mark per run, I got fitted into my current shoe. I'm glad I approached it that way.
Digger, I'm very close to the airport. The 2 onboard the plane are confirmed dead. No one of the ground have been reported injured.
should AU just a-bomb the bball program and hire charles to coach the team?
at best it will be some winning, a higher profile for AU bball, some street cred and be a media disaster (kiffykinesque tm if you will). and maybe set the next coach to take it to a new level. you have to admit barkley opening the new arena would be interesting.
at worst it will be a media disaster of epic proportions probably leading to charles calling AU racist and disassociating himself and AU on probation. so really not any worse off than it is now.
charles is the avenue to make the money back on the new arena quickly and generate fan and national media interest. you just hope there is something to build on in the future when he blows up and hope it happens later rather than sooner.
No offense Steve, but if crazy Al Davis told me the sun was coming up tomorrow, I might plan on bringing a flashlight outside during the day.
Just because he was right once, doesn't mean people should heed his warnings.
That video was hilarious, I bet I know who the most hated sports journalist in Knoxville is.
I believe WTC and his wife are designing a type of running shoe that will revolutionize athletic foot wear.
They are called ...
FOOT SOFAS.
If Al Davis trashes your character, to me, that says something:)
Glad to hear this: "Gus MalzahnAuburn offensive coordinator Gus Malzahn told a search firm helping Louisiana Tech find a new head football coach that he's not interested in that job and will remain with the Tigers. "
http://blog.al.com/goldmine/2010/01/auburn_coach_gus_malzahn_tells.html
Kathy - Jet has it on good authority that Malzahn will be with AU for three years. Or so he has written. I'm certainly not going to question him.
Gus had nice things to say about Auburn and Chizik.
I wouldn't blame Gus for leaving at the end of next season. If someone walks up to you with a check for $2 Million, would you be willing to move?
New thread UPZ.
