All we have are the embers
In this spot earlier today was a TWO HOUR Video Campfire®.
We discussed Auburn's 2010 signing class, broke that down fully, discussed the 2008 class, broke that down fully, talked about baseball, basketball, Clete Thomas, Auburn baseball never making the SEC Tournament, old media passes.
I'm not able to track UStream viewers like I can here, but special kudos to our top contributors: THT, Scottie, Cincy, Scott C., Sean, E-Bro, Luv, bigdaddy334, chipchip, clayburn, ckeenan, missinit, AWK, Freep, bellefay.
Thanks for participating!

That's all I get in the Comments section. Dagnabit.
Norm, that's just me. I continue to make the "connecting" comment. Jay is ignoring it, though.
You know, we should get THT to continually check the comments section and relay our thoughts to Jay. He is a kindly sort.
Hey THT, tell Jay that I said "Poopoo diarrhea!"
THT, help a brutha out.
I've had lots of funny comments. Homer would've loved it.
Wow, he just disappeared!
also a slow sort
i like embers
Missed it!
Dang it!
Did I hear it was to snow in Auburn?
Thanks to all for participating.
We had 600+ people watch, which is WAY above my goal of 200. That's awesome!
it was a lot of fun, JGT.
Up to three inches, AU1.
Schools closed. I know; it's laughable.
btw, I'm going to have to talk to AU athl dept about sending me one of those true media guides this year. The official 2009 media guide was a travesty.
Not laughable, sensible in a usually snow free area. Three inches in Alabama is probably the equivalent of a 6-8 inch storm here and you usually get rain first which means ice.
Hey NoVa is Fed gov't closed tomorrow do you know?
THT, they'll be hard to get. Mine was a special order.
NoVa - It does still kind of makes me chuckle though.
thankfully, I still have the 2008 media guide somewhere around here. Probably in LGGB's room
What was wrong with the 2009 version, THT? If the 2008 version was the bomb, then there is clearly a negative correlation between a good media guide and on field success.
I figure it would be closed since Metro still isn't back up all the way. Could you imagine putting a couple hundred thousand more people on the already stressed roads? I wonder about Metro's competence a lot more than road clearing.
I still need to get into the lab for a while and make sure everything is OK. Fortunately that last snow drifted behind my car and left the front mostly clear.
MJT - all media guides were ''the bomb" until 2009. This past year, they turned it into a picture album. They got rid of almost all of those wonderful records and statistics that made it a media guide.
i would like to criticize jgt for my lack of productivity this afternoon. the campfire was much more fun than any other options available.
you need to start going head to head with PF two or three days a week.
Bring it....
you will scan the entire media guide document and post it for all hotties to download. your people command it!!! you know, when you have a week and nothing to do...
the one time i didn't use one of his other monickers such as slimebag, pondscum, f-wad...
I finished that project, chip chip
slimebaum wouldn't stand a chance if both of you teamed up against him on the air!
It was a comprehensive analysis of recruiting.
AU1, OPM page isn't updated. Channel 4 news said there should be a decision soon.
NoVa - Thank you sir!
ok, this really stinks. old (early 1800s) scanned newspaper web site server is down. This really stinks a WHOLE lot.
Dude. They've been around for 200 years and you still haven't read them yet. You can wait another day.
Jay G, James Spann says 3-5" in your neck o' the woods. 2-4" up here. I think we need to call out the National Guard!
I look forward to reading the panic!
but when will be the next time I actually remember to read them? That may be another 200 years!
THT - What's the site?
AU1N04, I'm surprised the Bham area schools aren't closed yet!
AU1N04 - www.genealogybank.com (the log in page and anything requiring one to be logged in is offline - the useless home page and search functions work, you just can't accesss the results)
I have virtually no interest in genealogy, but being able to search old newspapers by keywords is a great help for map research
Interesting....on both fronts.
nerdy, too!
AU1, Feds are 2 hr delayed arrival or unscheduled leave. It's going to be messy. I hope they get the yellow line open across the river for me.
3-5"?
SOMEONE CALL ME ON THE HOUR TO MAKE SURE I'M OK!!!!
I don't get it.
ps: The Metro is down? Seriously?
Metro above ground has been mostly closed since Friday. They got most of it open Tuesday then had to close again Tuesday night.
They run below ground on a very reduced schedule.
Yuck. Which line are you on?
Yellow or Blue from Pentagon or Pentagon City. Both go above ground before going into DC. If the right buses are running, I can get to the Orange line which tunnels under the river.
Now the Metro server is down so I can't check the status.
We always stay out at the end of blue ... and that whole stretch to the Pentagon is above-ground. What a huge mess.
Actually I think this 2nd storm was handled better and the actual storm was worse.
But over a certain level 8" I think, the trains stop.
I lived off of the blue line in '03during that storm....I will never forget a Senator's Aide going out in his Jetta for the Sen. meds. That didn't work out so well for him.
Level 5 Panic is approved.
All eggs, bread and milk should be purchased immediately.
No state offices will be open tomorrow ... Presidents' Day is Monday.
4 day weekend!
4 day weekend? Better get your beer before the the section is stripped bare!
I knew there had to be a reason.
Monday was going to be an off day! Of course!
The kids here have been off for the entire week and don't go back until Tuesday......it has been challenge.
Yay! The Yellow line is open across the Potomac. It may be crowded and slow, but it will be better than facing the roads.
AU women not doing too well. Down 34-46 with 15 minutes to go in 2nd half.
how 'bout now, Cincy?
Getting worse - it is now 50-65 with just under 4 minutes to play.
I don't get it - Arkansas has only won one SEC game.
ugh - you can refrain from further updates
Final update, we lost 58-73. Ugh is right!
What's something more pleasant we can talk about?
There's only 40 days until Spring practice. That's better.
State offices closed in the Gump tomorrow... I officially have a 4 day weekend. No work until Tuesday (afternoon). Actually, that's when I'll be travelling to N. AL for a conference. So, other than making sure the conference runs smoothly, no work for me all next week. I won't be in the office for 10 days.
Sorry I missed the campfire this afternoon. I had planned on squeezing it into the schedule, but tragedy struck at the office and I had to work a little overtime just to get out at a decent hour.
cincy - ME!
OK, Norm, exactly what would you like to discuss about you?
Take your pick. You asked for something more pleasant and I really can't think of anything more pleasant than me. Everything about me. I exude and exemplify pleasantness.
Norm... I think your sarcasm machine is broken... it's layin it on just a little too thick now
Just saw the mail ...
Stewardess gets her first college recruiting letter. Now, that's making me sad.
Norm ...
A scholar
A musician
A charming rogue
A deep thinker
A man for all seasons
He's the most interesting Norm in the world... Stay Thirsty Norm
You timed your return to work perfectly to coincide with a snow threat and a holiday, didn't you Jet?
Hey, I was in meetings over the weekend. I will gladly accept the Governor's generosity by sleeping an extra two hours tomorrow.
Miller, are you saying I'm not pleasant? Next time I see you for lunch, I'm gonna treat you to a whoopin'.
I will be enjoying the extra sleep myself...
I wish it weren't so dang cold... I'd like to take advantage of my trip to the Shoals next week by playing a round of golf at the RTJ course up there where I'm staying.
I look forward to that pleasantry, Norm.
by the way.... how's the eye doing?
it's time for...
BEASLEY!!!
This spot reserved for a shout out to Kennesaw
I look forward to the pleasantry too. I hope I can make it again soon.
The eye is making slow improvements. I'm told it's a long process. Thanks for asking.
You people are dead tonight... I thought Thursday nights were supposed to be more lively than this? I also figured the anticipation of snow in the gump would have everyone too excited to sleep.
i'm too depressed about airfares to be a "lively poster"
DMIller ...
I'm too busy watching Rich Thomas on the Fox 9 p.m. news to get the latest.
I agree with Miller. You people bore me. I'm going to bed. Peace out.
Anybody seen any snow yet?
I saw snow... fluffy white stuff falling from the sky, right?
It's been a couple years... but I definitely saw it once.
It might have been in 97?
wasn't '98
we partied in '99
Mid page BOOM! Bring on the snow!
ok, now that I got that out my system... I'm tired, and obviously delirious... I'm off to bed.
Night, hotties. I hope we all have snow to play in tomorrow!
Just returned from my tour taking HS scores.
Still no snow. Oh well.
OH THE SNOW! OH THE HUMANITY!!!
I go away for a week and look at what happens. Campfires break out.
I go to bed at midnight and Meridian,Ms has a 5"-7" snow forecast. I wake up at 5am and the forecast for Meridian is now 1"-2".
I'm betting that except for a few isolated examples, the weather folks have over-forecast again.
This would make 4 snow over-forecasts for our location this year. We did have 1/4" of snow one day.
At least our schools didn't over-react and cancel this time.
Here's wishing safe travels to those in the southern snow.
The TV interviews one of the Clayton County, Ga. workers and tapes the following quote:
"We's only got 2 plows and that ain't gonna get it did. We gonna need some heyelp."
Another Clayton County jewel: Security cameras capture a dude at Walmart busting $22,000 in TVs with a baseball bat.
HEY JGT....
can we get a story on Dontae Aycock, seems he is lookin like the one...
Snow Nazi to Bham: NO SNOW FOR YOU!
Good Friday Morning, Hotties! Why do the weeks seem to be getting longer and the weekends shorter?
I enjoyed the video chat yesterday afternoon. Since I don't study film or scour internet sites for info. on recruits, it was great getting Jay G's perspective on things (although, since I didn't take notes, I won't remember any of it with my memory - or lack thereof!). Thanks, Jay G!
I think I've said this before, but the meteorologists around here need to stick to severe thunderstorm forecasting. They just need to tell us what the NWS is saying and that if it doesn't pan out, blame them. Like Hoopie, said, they haven't gotten on snowfall forecast right this season.
*one
Made it to work despite the blizzard. I saw at least 2 dozen flakes. It was crazy.
Snow Day!...Just remember, if you get into a snow ball fight, never throw a snow ball at a quarterback. Ben Leard made me pay dearly in 96 when we had snow at the dorms.
Morning Hotties, last day of training for me. 16 people plus an instructor in this class and only 4 of us are local to the area and won't be impacted by ATL canceling flights for the massive snow coming to town around mid-morning. Sucks to be them, or really anyone hosed up like that.
ehyou, at least you saw something. I haven't seen one flake of snow this season. The last big snowstorm we were supposed to get, I saw a few ice pellets, but that was it.
Although, according to the radar, I may see some snowflakes soon!
"We's only got 2 plows and that ain't gonna get it did. We gonna need some heyelp."
That's just awful.
no snow in Auburn yet boo
Morning all you winter weather survivors, I hope your stocks of bread and milk are plentiful. I made it to work this morning in the frigid 36 degree air, and almost saw a snowflake, although it could have been a cigarette someone tossed, too.
However, according to the wether channel radar there's stuff going on in Alabama from Birmingham - south. You guys and gals seeing anything yet?
Eddie, it all depends on which QB you're throwing snowballs at. I would have felt comfortable tossing one at Leard. I never would have thought he could actually hit me if he threw back.
mrtommyd, none of that reaching the ground here in Pelham. :(
That's pretty funny right there, D. Miller!
In honr of the snowshowers in the deep south, and to celebrate the snow NoVa and others have had to deal with, I'm changing my avatar for the weekend.
That's incorrect Luv, according to the weather channel radar, you are now under a light snow, and should have atleast 16 inches (or maybe a lot less) falling on you right now.
mrtommy, what you are seeing is not reaching the ground. Plus, I just looked out the window and I saw nary a flake.
I'd love to believe you Luv, but this is supposed to be a snow storm the likes we haven't seen since... well for a long time. So someone must have put out a picture in front of your window showing no snow falling or something like that.
I can't believe they're getting this wrong AGAIN
yes, you can, mrtommyd.
sigh
They're closing the office today @ noon. Why? Beacause there could be up to half an inch through 2 P.M.. Ridiculous.
I was very disappointed when I got up this morning and up until about an hour and a half ago; but I'm over it now. I'm done listening to the forecast for snow. I'm going back to "I'll believe it when I see it."
Nary a flake. I like it. Good use of the seldomly used "nary".
Nary a flake here at my house either. According to radar though, we should have at least a foot on the ground by now.
Is it snowing in the Gump?
Where's Jet? Have they lost power from all the snow that's being dumped on the Gump?
very nice snow here in the Gump. Starting to stick to bushes and pinestraw
D.Miller,
Leard is a greatly underrated QB. He was awful in 1998, but so was almost everything about that season.
We had a huge snow here in the Noog a couple of weeks ago. I'm just glad it's all south of us now.
mrtommyd, we have a courtyard right by the radiology dept. I just walked outside. I stood and stared and then squinted for awhile because I wanted to make sure I didn't miss anything. Still nothing.
Beautiful pictures of the snowfall in TX
It's been snowing heavy for over an hour here near Abbeville. Ground is way too wet for any stickage.
Muddy snow, just as bad as yellow snow.
Don't try to eat either.
Luv, what radiology dept do you work in?
According to weather.com, the Troy-Enterprise area is getting heavy snow.
Yeah Hoopie, and according to weather.com I should be seeing a "wintery mix" with light snow. Tried Luv's squinting technique. Nope nothin.
Is your squinter broken? Maybe that's it.
I tried squinting... Nothing
D. Miller, the one about 5-10 mins. from your house.
we've still got a smidgen of snow in shady places from 2 weeks ago, but I'm not going to share. I want MORE!!! SE NC may get a couple of inches tonight. We aren't going to get diddly squat.
You may have something there D. Miller. Perhaps I need to go to the doctor and have my squinter checked.
Jay G,
Can the girls wear UGGs today?
just returned from the ortho doc. To my untrained eye, the xray of my clavicle doesn't look like it's healing all that well, although it feels much better. I still think something is messed up in my shoulder joint but the doc wants to give it another 2 months to see if it will get better. I really don't like being around doctors.
Did you have your squinter checked while you were there THT?
Tar Heel, are you going to physical therapy?
Luv, I was supposed to have an MRI done there on Monday. But they just called to cancel and said my insurance wouldn't approve it.
The ol' squinter is fine; it can spot a flake at a 100 yards.
Luv - not yet, but ortho dude gave me Rx for PT
Well, according to the radar, Abbeville should be getting rain, but according to ehyou, it's been snowing there. So, I guess the only foolproof method is to go outside and look.
D. Miller, that sucks. Have you had any other tests?
We got flakes in Auburn/opelika
there is rain in mobile. exactly zero snow for all the school closures etc. i was supposed to be in dothan today but they cancelled on me yesterday due to the anticipated snow. it all worked out for the best because the sniffles that have been lingering with me all week have finally manifested into a full blown cold. there was sleet at 2 PM yesterday, but nothing since.
