Auburn hires a basketball coach
Hey everyone. It's 100% official -- Tony Barbee is now the head coach at Auburn.
Barbee, who coached under John Calipari at Memphis, ran the show at UTEP this past season and the three before that. The Miners qualified for the NCAA Tournament as an at-large team earlier this month before losing to Butler in the first round.
I had been hearing talk that Barbee was The Top Candidate at DePaul, which seems ripe for a revitalization. Chicago is a haven for prep hoops. Still, Barbee will be coaching on the Plains instead.
He went 82-51 in four seasons at UTEP. His team won 15 of its 16 Conference USA games this year and finished 26-6 overall.
``I’m very excited about the opportunity to join the Auburn Family and proud to be the next head coach at Auburn," Barbee said. ``We have challenges in front of us, but we also have great opportunities with everything Auburn has to offer—a great university, outstanding community, tremendous fan support, and a terrific new arena and practice facility. The time is now to take Auburn basketball to new heights."

New page smell.
and all is right with the world
Great news on the bball hire. Loved all the new slogans already out there from the hotties.
Barbee Doll's
Tony's Tigers- There Grrreat!
Barbee-Q-Boys: We'll smoke your butts!
Lots of possibilities.
dan, change that to "They're Gr-r-reat! I made the mistake on my post. I'm not sure about that part, but I could really see "Tony's Tigers" catching on at least for the guys.
Too bad UAT doesn't still have this guy:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3klmfriKFUk
They could have Bammer's Booger Boys as their cheering section.
What I really think will happen now is that the Bammers will try to copy the Barbee Dolls idea and will end up with a Ken Dolls section.
Norm must be busy at work today. I sortof sensed flippage reluctance.
Dan, you don't like: "Don't throw another shrimp on our Barbee!!"?
The Barbeerians.
That's good Michael!!
The Barbee Dolls and The Barbeerians. I can see dudes with floppy wigs and chicks with tight T shirts, etc. going nuts.
Thanks for the correction CH=B. Comm'r, I like the idea of not recruiting shrimps, just not sure the slogan will catch on. Bar"beer" ians Michael? I think that is a great idea.
Mr.TD,
I said the baseball game didn't count because it's not considered an SEC game.
I'm excited by the hire. I think this is a big step in the right direction for Auburn Basketball.
I guess it's no surprise that The King of Eurasia came up with The Barbeerians moniker.
Scotty B ..get busy on those T shirts.
Eddie ...you gotta be feeling better. Lebo's gone and TR may not be.
I like Barbeerians.
Can we have point guard on a stick too?
Hoopie - yep, pretty busy this week. Flying to SFO tomorrow for a weeklong customer visit next week. At least this California trip will be to a nicer area than my previous one. So that said, Hot Wife and I are flying out together early tomorrow to explore the area for a few days then she'll fly back Tuesday. So I have a number of things to wrap up today that I won't be able to do next week.
Hoopie- I'm good, but i'll leave the Rollison Express Conductor position vacant as he is. Time to see who steps up...Newton or Mosley.
Video of Urban...okay, it was tamer than it sounded in print, but he's still a lunatic. You could see the tears of Tebow in his eyes. I wish Fowler would've given him some lip. He looked ready to really explode, but couldn't quite push himself over the crazy ledge.
Sounds like Urban like T-Pain.
PF, have you seen what exactly Meyer is complaining about? I am assuming there is a story the guy wrote, but haven't seen it.
Steve, OMG, I linked it for you on the last page.
Cam Newton video:
The Big Cam Newton
JGT has already provided us with a lot of this information, but thought some of you might want to see the video.
HAHAHA, SC.
PF ..I'm sure you have to live with the Urban crap all the time. Believe it or not, it's probably not as bad where you live in So Fla, as further north.
I'll easily take your word at it and won't even watch the vid.
That's talent right there Mr. Chocolate. You can't coach that.
SC ..too funny.
Reminds me of when Spurrier went nose-to-mouth as he was stressing and losing the MNC to Nebraska (1995?).
Hoopie,
The video is funny, just not as bad as I expected. Definitely worth a watch for entertainment value.
UF fans are present here, but not terrible. They are intolerable in Jacksonville. That's probably the only thing I'm not looking forward to about moving back there.
New thread UPZ.
I developed some Jacksonville, Fla. real estate when I was with Petsmart back in the the 1990's. Jax is the 2nd largest conglomeration of rednecks on this earth.
Of course the cousin-humping, Walmartian, Infidel Nation is 1st.
Should I re-post that last comment on the new thread? hmmmm.
Considering the new thread is now 5 years old, I'm not sure it will do any good.
