More from Pro Day
After the "measurable" portion of the workout, players were sent outside to work position-specific drills. Some scouts take this stuff pretty seriously, but most simply watch while conversing with fellow scouts.
That's how they roll.
Of note:
**Ben Tate and Lester were put through drills by former Mississippi State coach Sly Croom, who now coaches with the St. Louis Rams.
**Tate still has that chip on his shoulder. ``I kept telling you all I was fast. I've been underestimated all my career. One day, the underdog will be on top."
**Lester was on the B.C. Lions practice squad last year and currently is attending Auburn to complete his degree. He's hoping to catch on with an NFL team this fall.
**McKenzie seemed disappointed by his set of numbers, which I thought were outstanding. ``I came here to put up numbers and I didn't get what I wanted."
**So why did McKenzie miss spring practice last year? ``Just stressing out. The season that we had (in 2008), I took it real hard. That last game -- I put it on myself, that the last game was my fault. I can’t do stuff like that. I can’t let stuff stress me out. I can’t let that happen again."
**Robert Johnson said he was inspired to jump back into pro football by his two young sons, who were running around the house in December with Johnson's old football helmets on their heads. ``I wanted to give them a chance to see what their dad could do on a football field."
**Johnson was on the New Orleans Saints' practice squad in 2006.
**Maurice Smith, the two-time Olympic decathlete, said he's hoping to catch on with an NFL team despite little experience. ``I played pick-up football with my friends in Arizona in junior college. I have speed and I have the hands." Smith won a silver medal at the 2007 World Championships and was Team Jamaica's captain in Beijing.
**McFadden was given his EAABWAA "Good Guy Award" plaque today:
**Here are your 40 times in order:
McFadden, 4.39
Billings, 4.42
Lester, 4.46
Gabe Barrett, 4.60
Maurice Smith, 4.69
Dunn, 4.70
Coleman, 4.72
McKenzie, 4.74
Todd, 4.84
Ricks, 4.95

Billings, 34
Coleman, 33.5
Maurice Smith, 32.5
Barrett, 32.5

Boom
Robert Dunn!
No fair, Norm, I got the conflicting edits post!
I must come up with a one word post
McFadden!
awesome Scott
Perhaps a players and their numbers only comment list?
Sullivan!
Glad the new post is back
See PF's post of reason on previous comments
It's back!
Alright, I'm still #1 so I guess I won't demand a full refund.
ESPN's film about Reggie Miller destroying the city of New York's dreams looks interesting. Anyone watch the one about the U?
Auburn ended up winning that college uniform bracket that we discussed a few times over the past month or so.
I have added several interesting anecdotes to the main page.
While I'm happy to think that the unis are well respected, I still think it was a dumb bracket.
I watched "The U." It was awesome because Howard Schnellenberger was in it.
I love Plankton.
He's undervalued.
Love the Schnell. I was also a huge Jimmy Johnson fan, until I noticed he was advertising extenze. Big time disappointment.
What did we win? you think bama would count it as a national championship?
It sounds like McKenzie was a head case. That is probably why he never excelled.
love the pic of Sly & 44.
40 times have been added to the blog
Vertical jumps have been added to the blog.
Walter McFastest and Lester the Leaper
PF ..nice "post of reason". Since it was during puppet hour, was it real?
Where's Kristina?
I voted for the unis and helped us win that dumb bracket.
AU plays Bama, Appy St and Arizona st this week in Baseball. All 3 are good teams
Scott Chocolate - glad you noticed. Too bad nobody picked up my slack.
JGT - I must confess. I didn't expect today's activities to be of too much interest. But you really did a top notch job and I really have enjoyed your report.
and btw, I could catch 2/50
Thanks to THT and everyone else for checking in today. It's been a pleasure.
I'm now headed to Montgomery to help coach COSTA RICA (the Montgomery YMCA U-8 version) to a win on the indoor field.
See you later!
JGT up for Coach of the Year?
Poor LGG Byron is holed up in a London hotel with the flu
I have an extra ticket to tonight's baseball game if anyone wants it. Shoot me an email or sumthin'
Sorry to hear about LGGB. Getting sick when you are at home is bad enough, getting sick when you are on a trip overseas is truly the pits. Hope he is over it quickly.
I'm watching Troy try to make it to the Dance.
Hoopie, no.
THT, wish him well, but his internet handle disturbes me. Byron was a very misguided person.
225lbs for 22 reps is good. I could tell you how many I can do, but that would be braggin' too much.
Nice job JayG on the reporting. Been too busy to post a lot lately but i try to read all of them.
I heard from several players that Gabe looked a pro bodybuilder when he arrived at AU. Just never got to use his strengths.
Why did he put the 2008 season loss on himself?
Just a note from the cruise this past weekend. A UAt guy was sitting at our dinner table, with a UAt golf vest on and started talking football (I did not brig it up). I engaged him in conversation and it was going well until he said it quite obvious that UAt was looking ahead to the UF game and wasn't focused on AU. I told him I thought the same thing about AU. They were looking ahead to the bowl game and if they had focused on UAt, they probably would have blown them out.
You shoulda just punched the dude in the forehead and got it over with.
What a day. Pro day and a Robert Dunn crusade. I've never caught a punt with a helmet on, but I have caught plenty of punts in pre-game. It ain't hard to do (shame on you 2009 Auburn punt returners).
Best of luck to Robert "RaRa" Johnson. I still remember him posting flyers in the athletic complex back in 2003 before the NFL Draft, inviting everyone to his draft party.
Awkward.
WTC ... you're alright.
Didn't Robert Johnson fail his NFL physical ?
Troy has its game tying shot rejected with 7 seconds to go, then loses ball out of bounds.
API...probably. Back then, it was a case of "Hubris, thy name is Robert Johnson".
Sounds like he's turned a new leaf, though. Hopefully he has a shot.
Troy misses half-court shot at buzzer for tie. Fell behind by nine, and came back to tie, but couldn't get over hump.
I found my home for the next year today. 2/2 Townhome for the price of a 1 bedroom, not bad.
Nice going Wake. That's gotta feel good.
Cap City Classic postponed; will be made up March 24.
So Lindsay Lohan is suing E-trade for $100 million over the 'milkaholic' Lindsay baby commercial that ran during the Superbowl. Lohan says she has reached one name star status like Oprah, Cher, Madonna and since theya re using the name Lindsay, they are infringing on her star status.
Glad to see that Tate hasn't lost his ZZZZing. If someone don't take him early it will be a big mistake. As for some of these guys that have been around for a while Good luck.
Gabe the best of luck to you.
Here is the story:
http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/35780790/ns/business-media_biz/
Jay, do you happen to know what agents the different guys have hooked up with?
I saw tis posted on a blog about the Lohan case:
Her best case is not on the use of the name Lindsey but rather on her corner on the market for "holic." She has that Trade Marked.
If the Lohan laugh out loud debacle doesn't get thrown out before it even gets started our Justice system is in worst shape than i thought and that is already pretty bad.
Sounds like Lohan is running out of cash and grasping at straws to get some more chedder. This girl is whack. I notice her attorney is there for her rescue ...at the cost of $250/hr. I guess she will totally out of money soon.
That HABOTNholic J-Z isn't around here, is he?
ehyou,
Love the avitar. Don Williams could lay down some smooth stuff "back in the day"
$250/hr is pretty cheap, actually.
Anyone else see the rumor that Auburn may be looking to hire Rick Majeris? He isn't my ideal choice, but he could bring something to the table. Even if we only got a couple of years out of him (due to age and health) then we could be an attractive job for someone else.
CH=B,
Rick Majerus was a guest on Roundtable in Birmingham today. After his segment they started talking about the idea of him coming to Auburn. I don't know much about basketball, but he doesn't seem like the kind of coach JJ would hire. But what do I know?
CHB-Was that a rumor from an 'in the know' person or just radio fodder? I have not heard his name mentioned. I did just read an article by Scarbinsky about how JJ being quiet is not good for Lebo. 2-5 in the SEC tourney. No 1st team SEC players in his 6 years.
I still think he stays. Not sure why other than AU tied his hands when he came here and they are making it up to him, but he has to know his days are numbered. 5 seniors on this team. he recruited all of them. Not a good record.
YOOOOOOOOOOOO
Beach weather, jhag.
Bellefay, I know Walt is with Rosenhaus. A few guys mentioned their agents, but I didn't really pay attention.
Isnt it always beach weather down here man? haha
We need energy, not Rick Majerus. We can't buy cred. We've got to get it through sweat equity -- in the schools, the AAU circuit, and, yes, among our fan base.
Just was looking at some info on the latest basketball signing class. If nothing else, it lets you know who Lebo recruited for the coming year.
http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/auburn-finalizes-impressive-6-man-class-167668
What we need is someone to write research papers for us.
Night hot ones. Anyone want to bet that THT has the first waking posting in the morning?
I find Tate's comments ironic, because I never doubted his speed. It was his quickness that was questionable.
Thanks for the info on our basketball recruiting class, wtc. Number 5 class is impressive. Maybe there is a chance we will be improved next season.
what up from the left coast. its colder in san diego than mobile. it was so windy, i thought it was going to blow the doors off the meeting room.
i had to call the wife from the strip club tonight. as bad as that sounds, it is actually a restaurant where you cook your own steak. nothing like trying to enjoy a bone-in ribeye you just grilled yourself after 10 PM CST.
I'll take that bet, API.
2.0 was just here! Must be her lunch break.
Hottie Ho!!!!!
API - sorry I let you down. I could have been posting 2 hours ago. But would that have been morning or night?
Good morning, Hotties!
Rise and shiine!!!
WARRRRRRRRRR EAGLE!!!!
Good morning all.
Cincy, I didn't know Rick M. was on the Roundtable yesterday. I just saw it on another blog. I think he could bring instant credibility to our program and he would leave us in a good spot once he leaves.
i didn't realize McFadden was that fast. impressive.
mornin' friends.
Since y'all seemed to enjoy the breast milk article so much, try this
Good morning everyone!
THT, how is LGGB? Better, I hope.
scottie,
Love me some ochocinco!
PF wins the bet !
that is nasty
THT, if you had posted 2 hours ago you would have been the winner of the EABWGGA for early risers. Its still night if you haven't gone to bed yet, and its morning if you are just getting up.
OCHOCINCO!!!!!
hahahaha. perfect timing!

sorry THT. i dropped it.
"I kept telling you all I was fast. I've been underestimated all my career. One day, the underdog will be on top." - Ben Tate
Hey Ben - winners don't complain.
They just shut up and run.
Fact - you didn't look fast when it counted most.
Good-bye to another "me" guy.
if i had been criticized for 4 years for something i knew i was good at i would prolly have a chip on my shoulder too. i can't fault 44 for that. fwiw.
Scottie - we get underestimated at times. That's life. If that's your only motivation - proving people wrong - odds are you won't last.
The trick is to find positive motivation.
#44 did a lot for Auburn but Auburn did a lot for #44 too.
i'm just saying i understand where 44 is coming from. that's all.
i hope he becomes an All-Pro.
scottie...
you are a posting train wreck this morning
I never got the impression Tate was a 'me' guy. He always seemed to keep a low profile to me.
#44 is still a 3rd or 4th rounder but that's not a bad thing. I'm sure he'll make a good complimentary back for a team. That is, until the NFL folds in on itself next year.
ehyou, some days you've got it....
today i apparently don't. ;)
Tom Brady was a 6th rounder. he didn't turn out too bad.
at least you got his first name, Scottie! A+ effort is always appreciated. I'm back to work. Y'all have a fun one today.
Yeah - I wouldn't go and call Ben Tate the next Tom Brady though.
prolly not, but it would be nice to have another superstar former Tiger in the NFL.
just noticed a Hottie from "Lucama, NC"... Hottie Ho!!! Speak up, Lucama/Wilson!
and no, I'm not really in Roxboro, NC. I'm in a suburb about 30 miles away....if you can call Durham a suburb of Roxboro.
Yeah the crop from '04 is looking on hard times right now, but that's how it goes at the top.
Chris Todd in the NFL.
Discuss.
What up peeps?
I have nothing really to add other than while getting ready this morning I thought that I'd say I'd easily double Harrison's punt catch record. Well, THT beat me to that. So now I'll say I'll double his. So, I'll catch at least 4 of 50.
F4* just returned from spending a few days/nights at Camp Grandparents. He and I got to play in the dirt when I got home last night. I so enjoy playing in the dirt more than I enjoyed playing with dolls with my daughter.
maybe JGT can arrange for us to catch some punts during the A-Day game ;-)
Tom Brady sucks.
did you try dismembering the dolls, Norm? Granted, it still wouldn't beat dirt.
i knew i'd be able to lure PF out this morning. ha.
Sensi ...I can't recall #44 calling attention to himself until right before the Bama game. He was here for 4 years, did his job on the field, made good grades, didn't make stoopid comments to the press and helped keep this team together.
He isn't on the team anymore. Now it's time for him to try and get some attention so he might improve his draft status ...unfortunately that's how America rolls the days. Don't blame #44 for that.
His momma named him BenTate, I'm gonna call him BenTate
Child, please. I've been here since 5:45rwt. Look it up.
Cincy ....Mommy Milk Cheese?? ..Dat rite dere ain't rite.
PF ... I figger any ambulance chaser willing to take that case needs the work and therefore works cheap. My real estate attys in NW Ga only charge $200/hr. They do get a lot of repeat biz.
Hoopie,
Just reporting, not commenting :)
Hoopie,
Sensi's just calling it like he sees it today. That's how he rolls. Don't blame him for it.
Then again, I'm with Hoops. Don't hate tha... playa, hate tha game....unless tha playa is Tom Brady. Screw that guy.
I wouldn't expect to pay any more than that for a real estate attorney in NW Ga. I would for a litigator in southern California.
Heck, I'm getting billed out at $200/hr right now on most cases, and I'm just considered "support." I doubt I keep that rate in N. FL, though.
child please!
i know PF, you're a freakin' vampire. you never sleep.
Hoopie calling me out is nothing new.
I'm just saying - guys don't start worrying about "getting theirs" overnight. However, you are right - he's gone. My fear is there is no one on the roster to replace what roles he did play. That is concerning. Then again, what the hell do I know? I'm just a sidewalker. Screw me and Tom Brady at the same time.
Hello sunshine...
that sure beats the 8 cents/hr I'm billing at right now. DL needs to up my pay to manage his uranium facility.
Note: it baffles me that they bll me out so high. I'm not worth that much without the certifications that I'm working towards. I get paid peanuts. That's what I'm worth.
For those interested, The Gridiron Breakdown is featuring a preview of the ACC as a part of our Spring Football Extravaganza tonight at 8 pm CT. We have a blogger named Clark from Atlanta scheduled. Good times. Join in or download for free. Thanks.
ACC? They still play football there? What's next, the Big East?
Peter - actually, yes.
Here's the schedule:
March 10 - ACC
March 17 -Big East
March 24 - PAC 10
March 31 - Big XII
April 7 - SEC
I hope your Big East and ACC analysis consists of "They Blow. Pick a name out of a hat. This is the team that will play in the Orange Bowl, which nobody will watch."
No, I try to be a little more objective than that. Plus, the Big East isn't all that terrible. The ACC needs help - yes, but they are still a BCS conference. That counts for something.
Can you get behind my quest to get the MWC to trade Wyoming and SDSU for Boise and Nevada, then replace either the ACC or Big East as a BCS conference? I think that would help things.
I think the MWC and the WAC top teams should play on championship game weekend as a play-in game to an automatic bid in the BCS bowls.
Bammers tell me MWC teams "suck" and "don't belong" though.
hahaha.
Utah, TCU, and BYU are better than the top three teams in the ACC. Yeah, the WAC is weak, but Boise shouldn't have to have a play in game vs one of those when those other conferences have the opportunity to send two; they just need to get out of the WAC altogether.
PF - you need to make that SDSU and UNM. Don't go bashing my Cowboys from Laramie.
Ah Bama fans. I haven't heard diddly from them this offseason. It's been rather nice, actually. Maybe they should win every year. Or just give them a trophy and let everyone else play outside of them. I mean, they're the best and and everyone else sucks so why bother having them compete?
There's actually a very cool pop-punk scene in Laramie. The Lillintons and Teenage Bottlerocket are really good bands.
Okay, Cowboys can stay. They just need to step it up if they're going to play in the next great BCS conference.
Sensi ...didn't intend to call you out personally. ...apology offered.
WAC and MWC teams don't have the talent and depth to win a tough conference. Sure, every once in a while they get taken lightly and beat a top team. Beating top teams consistently in the middle of a tuff schedule would provide a beginning point for a discussion. That ain't the case. Those conferences occasionally spawn promising coaches and some skill position talent, but that is about where any comparison should stop. As for the player talent level? .. check out the size, speed and ranking of the recruits.
Seanzie, we have a low Bammer infestation rate in NW Ga. and are accordingly spoiled. We went to Stateboro this past weekend to visit our daughter and do the parent-sorority thing. We met great parents from all over the USA ..and no Bammers. Conversely, my buddy from Fairhope went to the Cesspool(W. Vance) for his daughter's orientation(she could get into Bams, but not AU). He met a few nice parents and a bunch of jerks ...all Bammers.
It's sad to admit it, but sometimes I have to rely on the HABOTN to keep the Bama hate burning.
Thanks, PF. They did win one of the most exciting bowl games this past season. But alas, they are destined to a goal of achieving mediocrity given the facilities and Laramie winters.
sensi, look out. people don't like it unless you have all positive words for everything Auburn related. Next thing you know you'll be racing Ben Tate in the 40 and doing cone drills
I don't think that BYU, Utah, or TCU look that small or slow on the field. I have zero idea what they look like on paper, though. Boise does look small, but not slow. They'd have to recruit some size if they were to compete in the new and improved MWC that I'm proposing, but I think they are right where they need to be to do it. Joining a conference that would be joining the BCS would be enough extra exposure to do it. You think any of those teams would be worse than Kentucky, Duke, Rutgers, Syracuse, UNC, etc...? Heck, I think they'd be just as competitive as South Carolina in the SEC (not more, but as much as).
I don't think I could ever live in one of the big cities in Alabama. It would drive me to drink myself stupid.
Sensi - "Chris Todd in the NFL" got about as much response as his chance to do so.... zero.
Where could he play "Left corner back .. Left out". yea that's it left out.
I'd agree that MWC or WAC teams wouldn't be able to hang in a more loaded conference. However, they've done enough against the big boys when given the chance to deserve consideration.
The BCS system isn't perfect. We all know that.
The above was me. Darn double logins...
BCS isn't perfect, and it stinks.
oops, the above was me. Darn all these Jays
Which Han Solo was better - before or after the carbon freeze?
Discuss.
before.
scoundrel? i like the sound of that.
Definitely before the freeze. He was kind of annoying in Return of the Jedi.
How about this... better character for Harrison Ford. Indy or Han Solo?
Indy.
yep Indy.
han.
close, but i'll take the pre-carbon freeze Han over Indy.
who would Hollywood get to play current & former AU football coaches if there was such a movie?
joe pesci = terry bowden
Martin Lawrence would play Trooper Taylor.
The farmer from Babe would play Dye.
Ben Tate whining about how people disrespected his speed is reminiscent of Michael Jordan's hall of fame speech where he talked about all the imagined disrespect he received. I guess having that attitude works for some athletes.
But seriously, for the last two or three years, it has been repeatedly said that Tate had the fastest 40 time of our backs. At what point was he accused of being slow?
I think he's arguing the perception. He might have told people he was fast, but people express shock when they actually see the number. I guess there was some inherit doubt.
Besides, Ben is still a kid and he's not a retired Hall of Fame legend in his 40's. I'll give him some leeway in what he's saying.
If he were alive I'd say Clark Gable to play Tubs just for the ears.
I still have to tell people how fast I am and I'm 32
But you can't deny that was a dick move by Jordan
i won't deny it, i'm a straight ridah, you don't wanna mess with me.
King Kong's got nothing on ScottieB
Joe Don Baker plays Pat Dye
Little People Big World guy or Gary Coleman plays Terry Bowden
Denzel plays Luper
I concur with Martin Lawrence as Trooper.
And Jerry Mathers as the Beaver
Denzel as Luper. fantastic!!!!!!
just picture me rollin' Sensi.
And POPCORN CARTER!
Jet- Kevin Federline has been working hard to get the Terry Bowden part.
Verne Troyer as Tater Tot
Why would anyone ever make a movie about Auburn coaches?
wouldn't be the worst movie ever made
I have absolutely no idea, PF.
No, that would be Bridget's Jones Diary which my wife made me attend against my will.
I bet PMarsh could make it into a nice coffee table movie, print way too many copies, and give it away 6 years later as a gift for joining his pay site.
LOL, PF. And you could make a cameo appearance as Chris Todd.
Wow, Robert Johnson comes back from the Crossroads to try the NFL again.
When he left early for the NFL after the 03 season that seemed like a bad move, 7 years later giving it a second try...well I wish him the best.
Every time I've ever seen that dude's name, I've immediately thought of the blues musician, and had to remind myself that he's a football player.
AJC has some outstanding journalists.
From an article, which serves zero purpose at all, about a Metro-area car dealership starting to sell Aston Martins comes this gem:
In some of the earlier Bond movies, the car's tailpipe converted to a machine gun. That option is not available at the Sandy Springs dealership.
Really? This is a serious newspaper?
I saw Robert Johnson's greatest follower, Eric Clapton in Atlanta last night...he played two of RJ's songs, Little Queen of Spades and of course Crossroads.
Yeah PF, they should at least tell you where that option is available. Unbelievable
Peter, I remember when I bought my Ford Fusion, I asked the guy if he had the NASCAR package. To my dismay, he did not.
By the way, all you futbol fans. How about the whipping Arsenal put on Porto in the Champions League? Believe it or not, this is the first time ever for Arsenal to advance when starting the second leg with a disadvantage.
In honor of the occasion, I will have an Avatar change.
PF tags the hanging curve ball and sends it into the second deck.
I read that article too. While they did point out that the machine gun option was unavoidable; they failed to mention anything about ejector seats, bullet proof shields over the rear window, retractable razor/saw thingies which would come out of the wheel, and a host of other things. Really poor journalism.
Unavoidable should've been unavailable.
We apologize for this mistake and will take steps to ensure it does not happen again in the future.
What about the license plate changer? Does it still have the license plate changer?
Of you haven't already, go sign up for the 2nd annual HABOTN Bracket Challenge on Yahoo.
Group ID# is 26461 and password is: hatebama
hatebama?
I can't type those words.
Did you join last year? If so, you typed those very words.
Go on and type them, it will feel good.
100 + BEASLEY!
i goofed this morning. i needed to make it up to THT.
So, where are we all meeting for the Kentucky game next year, and please don't say the Lexington Hotel?
If Jessica Parker Wilson can make the NFL then I don't see why Todd can't. 13 reps of 225 is pretty impressive strength by the way for a QB.
Sensi, what's up with the Tate hate today.
I just finished my Jeff Lebo opus and it's time to head for Cashville.
I'm covering Auburn and The Bam in Cashville, so I gots to get moving.
I'll post comments from Jimmy Dykes (ESPN hoops analyst) and Pat Forde (ESPN.com star) about Lebo once I arrive in Cashville. Please have a swell day and I'll see you later.
godspeed JG.
I thought the machine guns were in the front. Tailpipe was oil slick and smokescreen. I had the toy version of that James Bond car when I was a kid. It was awesome, except that almost every kid who had it lost the guy from the ejector seat within a week or so.
So I am taking my official visit to Auburn on the April 10th weekend...going to The Big South party at the KA house ( they sent a letter inviting me) and the auburn alpha psi rodeo saturday they say its the best event of the year...im going with an alum that just graduated
Haha, its Old South, j-hag. That's always a ton of fun. And yes, the Alpha Psi rodeo is one of the most ridiculous and fun filled events.
I'm in on the HABOTN Bracket Challenge.
What hanging curveball?
Paging Dr. Norm!
I'm not quite sure how I'm going to get home this afternoon. Apparently all the roads around my house are closed due to flooding.
Riding the floodwaters to page 2!
