Practice No. 2
Hey everyone. Auburn's second spring practice has ended. Here's what we have learned:
- S Daren Bates will be held out of contact drills until two-a-days. He suffered a torn labrum in his left shoulder during the LSU game last year. Surgery was performed in January. Bates is in shape and all, but he's lost a lot of weight because upper-body weightlifting is out. So it goes.
- TB Onterio McCalebb said he's gained 10 pounds since the Outback Bowl. It's from weightlifting. His arms look significantly bigger to me. "O-Dog" said he can feel the extra weight, but it hasn't affected his acceleration.
- McCalebb is predicting a better season in 2010 because he's not partying as much.
- Here is the current skill-position array:
- "9" (outside) -- Darvin Adams, D'Angelo Benton
- "5" (inside/tight end/utility) -- Phillip Lutzenkirchen, Blake
- "3" (inside/utility) -- Emory Blake, Kodi Burns, Jay Wisner
- "4" (tailback) -- Mario Fannin/Onterio McCalebb, Dontae Aycock
- "2" (outside) -- Terrell Zachery, Quindarius Carr
- "9" (outside) -- Darvin Adams, D'Angelo Benton
- OL Bart Eddins is running with the first team at left guard. Big Snacks Berry played that spot last season, though he's been slowed after undergoing a relatively minor knee surgery. Eddins is aiming to make that spot his own.
- Gene Chizik said it's his understanding that S Zac Etheridge will try to play this fall. I haven't spoken with Etheridge to confirm that or understand the medical risks involved.
- McCalebb is "boys" with Pittsburgh Pirates outfielder Andrew McCutchen, who soon will begin his second season in the majors. They're both from Ft. Meade, Fla., and McCutchen's father was McCalebb's youth pastor.

Good point, PF, and good morning!
Rise and shine, hotties!!!
I wanted to see it flipped and I wasn't sticking around for others to chip in.
Sorry about knocking your links off the front page THT.
I guess Karma bit me in the ass, now I can't sleep.
no problem, Wake. I just wanted to let those who weren't inclined to read the prior page know that the links were there.
Wake, How is the night shift?
as a night shift alumnus, I think it is awful.
I think mornings are of the devil, and in general are nocturnal. So it works out for me pretty well. Plus thats when all the fun stuff goes down.
I have to work days in a month, and I'm not looking forward to it.
In general AM nocturnal.
I've been up for a long time.
Off to Tampa to watch fast cars. Have a good day, Hotties.
I guess that means you found another hookup. Don't get in their way, it'll hurt.
wow, what are yall doing up this early?
i'm stuck at work today. i'm SOOOOO far behind i had to come in. lucky me.
KSU & UK killed my bracket last nite. aarrgghh.
Nope, still have a couple of longshot calls out. Worst case, I scalp or buy a ticket at the gate...either way, I'm going.
good luck PF. have fun homey.
early? this ain't early.
MrsTHT cooked me up some homemade biscuits, bacon, eggs, and cheesegrits for breakfast, washed down with a tall glass of cranberry juice. Yummy! I put maple syrup on my biscuits instead of apple butter.
Now I'm having a big bowl of ice cream with chocolate syrup for dessert. MrsTHT thinks that's wrong at this hour. If it's wrong, I don't wanna be right.
ice cream for breakfast? impressive.
did yall hear about Joey Porter? apparently he was drunk driving & assaulted a police officer. goodness. can't these NFL guys just get a taxi? they can afford it.
it's my most favorite food, Scottie B. It's good with any meal.
Everyone I know that's ever gotten a DUI could afford a taxi. I don't get why the NFL guys are expected to act different than the general population.
i see your point PF, but my thinking is they've got a lot more to lose as far as national attention/media scrutiny if they do something wrong. if you make $5 mil a year, why not pay $100-$200 for a taxi to avoid years of annoying questions/persecution from the media & fans? especially if you think you may jack up a cop. but again i can see why they don't think about that....but they should.
You're right, they should. Everyone should. Jacking up a cab driver will get you attention, too, and we've seen that happen a couple of tines from stars/coaches.
All I hear are Sunday morning crickets.
i've got one customer right now i'd love to jack up PF. fortunately i called a cab last week instead. :)
You totally should've called him for a ride and gone Andy Kennedy on him. Lesson learned I guess.
i wanted to go all Urban Meyer but didn't. oh, well. there's always next time.
It didn't occur to me the the weather would be different 160 miles further north. Dangit.
i washed & shined my car up yesterday. i didn't know it was going to pour here all day today. oh, well. it looked good for about 6 hours.
Have we been abandoned like a basket full of kittens?
Did we get left on the doorstepes of the Pupppets.
Hello? (tap, tap, tap) Is this thing on?
Dinner last night was a disappointment to me. Hot Wife really liked what she had but wasn't too hungry. I didn't like what I had. There were loud, somewhat inebriated people at 3 of 4 tables near us. We're quiet types typically and this behavior annoyed me at what's supposed to be such a nice place. The drive to and from was full of narrow twisty roads. Good thing I wasn't drunk or I certainly wouldn't be here to amuse you today.
Today is a laid back day. Grab a late breakfast then drive up the Pacific Coast Highway, check out some of these big trees I've heard so much about.
So that's that. You folks have fun doing what you do.
mid 40s with high humidity, clouds, and wind in Copenhagen today. Hopefully, 2.0 has had a good day despite the weather....and lack of sleep.
Norm - the big trees are soooo coool. Also Point Reyes National Seashore is nice. There's a fence there (presumably replaced) that shows how far the earth moved in the 1906 quake.
btw, 1906 maximum offset was about 18 feet. The recent earthquake in Chile moved the city of Concepcion 10 feet.
THT - Point Reyes wasn't on my "to do" list since I didn't know about it. But, it looks to be relatively convenient to where I figured we'd start out so I think we'll hit that place.
Hey folks! Sorry I haven't posted lately but I am so excited about spring football and Newton at the QB position.
I also like the Tony Barbee hire. I think he'll bring some much needed enthusiasm and charisma to the Plains! WDE!
What is the story with our favorite beat reporter? I have seen nothing from him this weekend, which is unusual. Jay, stomp your foot once if your okay or twice if you aren't. Was that lint thing too much for him? You know, they have brushes to get rid of that these days.
New thread UPZ.
Jay G lives!!!
