Dismukes picks Auburn

Hey everyone. Reese Dismukes will play at Auburn beginning in 2011. We know this because he just made that announcement at his school in Spanish Fort.

He said he was close to a decision earlier (ie a few months back) and he had a different decision in mind. He instead chose Auburn. "Things happen for a reason," he said.

So here's the deal. Dismukes was prepared to choose Alabama in early January. Nick Saban likes to lock 'em in early. Then Dismukes' 6-year-old niece came down with a nasty respiratory problem that prompted a 53-day hospital stay. Dismukes' mother, Kim, said any decisions regarding her son's college choice would be delayed until the niece's situation improved.

Once that happened in late February, Reese Dismukes had undergone a change of heart. That suited Kim just fine. She's a 1986 Auburn grad and a pharmacist here in town.

Wo why is he wearing a doo rag? Dismukes began wearing them during the football season because his hair was so long. It became his trademark. He even wore a doo rag -- matched with his date's outfit, of course -- to Spanish Fort's prom earlier this month. Kim went searching for an Auburn bandanna yesterday. She couldn't find one, so she made one from an old pharmacist's smock she had lying around.

It was an Auburn smock.

ALSO: He may take official visits to Alabama and Stanford when the times comes, but he reiterated his stance that he is and will be "100 percent Auburn."

So in case anyone hears differently...

Just spoke to Reese Dismukes, 2011 offensive center from Spanish Fort, Ala. He plans to announce his decision next week. Bama leads.

It seems that Spencer Region won't be the only offensive line commitment that we get for the 2011 class in the next few days.

2:15 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Mercy rule in my son's league is only 8 runs allowed to be scored by each team per half-inning. Both teams scored 8 in the first inning. We shut 'em down the rest of the way. The game ended after 4 innings instead of 6 because there was no way the other team could catch up.

THT - the "lamentations" is from an old Conan the Barbarian the Barbarian quote, so the prestige you speak of belongs to the governator.

A post on entropy? Entropy is the leftovers. Entropy balances the equation. In nozzle applications, the Gibbs equation allows us to relate change in entropy at a certain temperature to the internal energy, pressure, and change in volume. Using the first law of thermodynamics, the equation of state for a perfect gas, and the continuity equations, you can derive some fairly straightforward formulas for the relation between pressure, temperature, and density all as a function of the mach number of an isentropic fluid.

7:21 AM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Let's play the ever so dumb "what if" game.Who would the SEC choose to dillute?

First, I don't think it would be wise to go outside of the "2 per state" rule the SEC currently employs. If the want to use the same timing as the big 10, they'd have to avoid looting the Big East (27 months notice to leave), so the obvious USF is out. That moves Central Florida up as an option. FSU would also be ab option if yhey could pry them away from the ACC, but I don't think they'd take both. Clemson and Ga Tech are also obvious options. Texas would turn down the big 10, but they probably wouldn't turn down the SEC. If the SEC goes west, aTm and maybe La Tech would work as well (Arkansas region).

Now, if the Big 10 takes Big East teams, and the conference ends up disbanding, Louisville and USF become commodities the SEC could want.

I see most likely: Texas, aTm, USF, and La Tech as the expansion.

While i hate the idea in general, I think Clemson, Tech, FSU, and Texas would be awesome additions to the SEC. Three really fun road trips and one founding member coming home.

They would be great schools to visit, but like you said, the idea is loathsome.

I just hate the idea of super-conferences. It would dent regional identity in college football, which is a big deal in the South, obviously.

PF and E-Bro,

I concur. As I tell Mrs. Jet, bigger is not necessarily better.

I don't want to add FSU, as that would put us opposite Jhag, and none of us should want that.

Another big signing day for AU today. Hopefully we get the basketball player from Huntsville. This will be a BIG get for Barbee. Prior coach did not even contact the kid. He visited AU last weekend, cancelled a trip to West Va for this weekend and is ready to announce today.

Also read an article on the JUCO kid that is staying with his AU commit. Adrain Forbes (6'8" 230lbs).

He described his style of play as "down and dirty".

"I like banging, I work around the basket. I like rebounding, blocking shots, taking charges, and working that midrange. I just like getting dirty." (from a free Rivals interview)

Personally, I like the idea of 16 team conferences. It simplifies the playoff picture.

What would be dream ads be?
1) Georgia Tech
2) Florida State
3) Clempson
4) Texas
5) Texas A&M

What, five? Yea, we give Kentucky to the ACC since we hit them so hard.

9:29 AM
Blogger Unknown said...

Yea, I considered Texas Tech for the irony factor, but decided against it.

9:32 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

Well, I'm fervently against the idea of 16 teams, but that's a solid looking list of teams.

Give 'em Vandy instead (SEC Academic rankings be damned). We need Kentucky for basketball.

Basketball is a sport invented for conferences that suck at football.

I do believe the mega-conference thing could happen, and sooner rather than later.

One thing I hate is that I still don't think of Arkansas and South Carolina as SEC teams.

I would also wonder about scheduling. We must play Georgia every year. I couldn't do without that. I would also like us to play Florida and Tennessee every year again, but I can't see that happening.

I would love to have Georgia Tech on our permanent schedule.

9:38 AM
Blogger ehyou said...

It ain't gonna happen.

We played Georgia Tech in one of the games that was most likely to give me a heartattack.

It was 1984. We won the game 48-34. Pepper Rodgers was the Georgia Tech head coach.

Why the heart attack? We were up 35-0 at halftime, if I recall correctly.

Blogger digger4au said...

I hope the big ten just talks Notre Dame into the conference and stays at 12.
I do not think 16 team conferences work very well. Two 8 team subdivisions would keep teams from playing the other half regularly and would stretch out all rivalries beween the subdivisions. Every year rivalries like AU vs Ga and Ala vs Tenn would disappear.
I would love to swap back Ga. Tech and South Carolina.

9:46 AM
Blogger Jet said...

We could go to four four-team divisions ... play the teams in your division twice ... play the other teams once ... and have an 18 game schedule ... the four division winners could meet in the SEC semis at home sites, then the winners meet in the title game in ATL for the title game, then the winner advance into the brand new four team playoff of super conferences ... the winner of that playoff represents the colleges in the Super Duper Bowl against the NFL champion.

9:47 AM
Blogger E-Bro said...

With a super conference, we would probably play Florida and Tennessee even less, barring Title games. Plus, UGA may be taken off the permanent schedule.

I know it's probably not gonna happen anytime soon, but I vote for never.

Switching South Carolina and Georgia Tech would make a lot of sense. At one time, our series with Georgia Tech was one of the longest in the nation.

WAC expanded to 16 and before you could blink, the original WAC (mostly) formed the MWC.

I have a scheduling philosophy that would work better for 16 teams and actually better than what we have for 12 teams.

You have to play each member of your division. Only division games count towards getting to the SECCG.

You have to play one other game on SEC kickoff weekend, a new major event. On that weekend you play the team that finished in the same place as you in the other division. Obviously one of the games would be a re-match of the SECCG, but the others would be competitive. I love this idea.

Forget about the rotating crap. Forget about the one permanent crap. Play whoever else you want from the other half of the SEC or out of conference.

In this scenario, you would have 6 mandatory SEC games each year with a twelve team league. If we expanded to 16 teams, it would be 8 mandatory games.

Then we can schedule anyone who wants to play us, like Florida, Tennessee, Georgia Tech, and Georgia. None of those games would count towards the SECCG, but who gives a rip. Win your division and you go.

And this would work for the football challenged schools, such as Vanderbilt. They could schedule half their games out of conference.

Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

Eddie, I believe you meant to say,

"Auburn beats Alabama and NFL Scouts down on LSU football players"

I have a scheduling philosophy...Don't expand to 16 teams.

11:27 AM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

"Auburn beats Alabama and Only division games count towards getting to the SECCG."

assuming 2 divisions, that would only be 5 conference games in 12 team conference and 7 in a 16 team conference, unless an intrasquad scrimmage counts.

Exactly, THT. No more of this rotating crap or everyone has one permanent opponent crap. That is naturally unfair to schools who have a good permanent opponent.

The west champ should be the one that wins the most west games.

We would be able to play top notch opponents outside the division and not be penalized for it.

And the SEC kickoff weekend would be huge. Bama playing Florida again, LSU playing Georgia, ..., Vandy playing Ole Miss. All of the games would be competitive.

Of course, if the kickoff weekend opponent was already on your schedule, you shuffle things a bit, but we could hire Dew, Cheatem, and Howe to figure that out.
