Eddie didn't call anything. He came in late in a game where the opposing pitcher was a on a roll and made an observation in the most negative way he could. Crappy attitude to have it you ask me.

Not just Auburn, this is what's known as the let down. I've seen the Titans do it twice after being the No. 1 seed in the playoffs. I watched Arsenal hold first place for all but the last month and then blow it. NY Yankees in 2004...Boston in 2003...

Yuck.

Seanzie- I agree, seems to happen to most my teams that I follow. I'm now trained to think this way. I may have been one of the few to state it, but I'm sure others were thinking it. I just love how I get blasted for posting it.

I'm a glutton for punishment. I may go to the game tomorrow.

Surely someone can locate AU's real bats in the next 20 hours or so. Actually, I don't know if any of you realize this, but the SEC made AU play this game with tee-ball bats and gloves in order to give Bammer a better chance to win. They did something similar to ensure that UAT made the tourney in the first place.

12:00 PM

Hey, the good news, it's double elimination. Let's go win the rest.

In Eddie's defense, I believe he predicted this back when the matchup was announced.

Sensi,

I thought you picked against us every game.

12:01 PM
Blogger Fearless Freep said...

When JGT posted this matchup the other day, I was on the verge of replying that occurrences such as these always inspire in me a feeling of impending doom, no matter what the sport, no matter what the circumstances. But I declined, deciding that I shouldn't dwell on those negative feelings.

That didn't work either.

Oh well, time to accept the fact that those b@st@rds will always be in our heads.

12:01 PM
Blogger Seanzie said...

Well Auburn was setup to fail in this one, it was unfortunate pairing. The pressure is off and now we just gotta play our game.

12:01 PM

Sensi, the skid was clearly your fault. We established that already. Own it.

12:03 PM

Also, playing in Hoover is like a UA home game.

12:03 PM

Nah, not every game, RK.

Just West Va., Arky, LSU, Ole Miss, and Alabama.

12:03 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

I tried the same strategy, Freep.

12:04 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

It was a tough matchup. Bama's pitcher played well. AU made a couple of mistakes. Pitching hasn't been consistently strong all year. This was not a choke job, it was one ball game played by a team that is far from perfect. The tourney is not over. The post-season is not over.

WEG - it's not Sensi's fault. It's UA-T's fault. I blame everything on UA-T. Somehow or other, it all can be traced back to that wretched institution. I HATE UA-T! 12:22 PM
Blogger Tar Heel Tiger said...

UA-T is obviously to blame for the oil disaster. That absolutely sickens me, too, Kathy. There's just no reason at all for it to still be gushing oil into the ocean this many weeks after. Heck, the emergency shut off valve on the ocean floor should have been activated the instant something went wrong.

12:24 PM
Blogger Scott Chocolate said...

Very few people know that "chump" was derived from "Cousin Humper". This word was created in the late 1800's so AU folks could call Bammers "Cousin Humpers" in public without offending any passers-by.

12:25 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Bama needs to be looking ahead to Regionals. The rest of their pitching staff is not as good as the big, dumb redneck who threw the ball today, and they will likely have a very tough draw in Regionals.

The oil gusher isn't capped yet because the problem is nearly a mile under water.

I also read where BP saw 3 warning signs during the hour before the explosion, but kept pumping.

This problem has gone on way to long and they need to use the last resort, namely shoving a BP executive into the pipe to stop the leak.

Multitasking
Folders to organize apps
A unified inbox
iBooks is coming to the iPhone
More features for the enterprise
A social network for gaming
Mobile advertising with iAds

Somehow I don't like our prospects of playing South Carolina tomorrow. This could turn out being quicker than a Tony Franklin exit interview.

2:21 PM
Blogger Jet said...

Now, let me offer another dose of reality to the proceedings.

1. Small ball is infinitely more consistent than DongyKong ball. Might not be as fun, but more consistent.

2. When you're king of the DingDongs, you're a 1/16th of inch away from a flyout. When you play in a larger ballpark, that matters, too.

3. Perhaps we're also paying the price of not being ready for a morning drive time ball game. Last time we were in this event, some of folks around here weren't old enough to drive, vote, or drink.

4. A quick exit may cost us a regional, but better to play well in the next tournament than this one.

5. Hate status unchanged.

Jet,

AU plays a hybrid small ball/donkey kong ball game. Their average is tops, sac bunts are tops, and most other batting categories are either tops or near the top. That indicates a small ball team. They just happen to be really strong, too.

2:27 PM
Blogger Peter Frankenschmidt said...

Blogger wtc said...

This game reminded me of the UT game about 2 weeks ago. I was there on friday night and AU hit the ball hard, but right at the fileder. When they got a man on, they could not punch out a hit. AU lost 9-2, or something like that. After that loss, they went on a tear. Beat UT the next two games and never looked back.

3:00 PM
Blogger wtc said...

The only problem I can see after listening to game one is that the fences may be back further, but that should not be a problem unless you are trying to play for the big score. This team can play small ball. If a couple of batters string together some hits, the others will get in a groove.

3:03 PM
Blogger ehyou said...

So South Cackalacky is our first obstacle in 'Auburn's Road To The Championship©'.

3:05 PM
Blogger wtc said...

The UAt pitcher has been on a role. I think this was his 3rd complete game in a row. AU's mistake was not working the count. Several innings went by without him throwing many pitches. Also, do you think after about the 4th inning AU started pressing? The attempted hit and run was awful weak. Never run yourself out of an inning. AU runner was out by amile on that play. I sensed the team was deflated after move.

FUTBOL

Eddie...I wouldn't rad much into last night's game. Literally half of our probable starting line-up didn't even dress for the game. I am genuinely concerned about the backline since Gooch and Stevie C., two of our better defenders when healthy, played notable minutes. Still, let's see how the next two friendlies (this Saturday against Turkey and the next against Australia) go.

Sean...Agree on the squad more or less. Really surprised Findley made it over Ching. Ching looked good last night and Findley, while blazing fast, doesn't look ready for international soccer yet. I'm okay with Beas over Rogers. RR played well last night, but Beas looked solid as well and was probably our best player against the Dutch a few months back. Whatever, though, the 23 man roster has been decided and it's time to get down to business.
